What can't you like? Simple, delicious, ono Hawaiian food with amazing pastries! Get the guava plantation iced tea and if you don't order an entree (ie garlic fried rice, kimchi fried rice, etc.) you DON'T automatically get a butter roll, but you want one. Trust me. Get their jelly to go as well (by the pastries). Kitchen messed up our order. We got kimchi fried rice instead of the garlic but it was quickly fixed! Definitely get SPAM as your meat. It's quintessentially Hawai'i. For dessert, grab a coco puff or chocolate cream puff (or two, or three...) for to-go. Their other desserts are quite as exciting, imo. Overall, I think their breakfast is the best bet and their fried rice is also great. Huge bowls of saimin as well. Where they get iffy is lunch/dinner like fried chicken, prime rib, etc. They do make a good (and HUGE) BLT on a croissant. Can't miss this! It's been a while, but I picked up a friend at the airport and she took me out to lunch. I've been on the fence about Liliha because the last time I went, the waffle didn't taste the same. I don't know. The waffle has always been my favorite. We just got eggs and portuguese sausage. I did get the kimchi fried rice which was good. Our first table was in direct line with the AC and it was like we were sitting in the wind. When we moved to the counter, the heat from the kitchen was an issue. I don't know. Decided to have my bday dinner at Liliha Bakery on Nimitz tonight since I knew I wanted to pickup a custard pie anyway. It was a good decision. I had the Mushroom Chicken, brown gravy and loads of fresh sliced mushrooms. Very happy with my selection. Hubby had the prime rib, medium rare and it was perfect! Shout out to the delicious potato/Mac salad and of course the jelly and butter rolls. . We were seated on the riser section on top behind the bakery, nice and relaxing. Tables are nicely spaced, clean and not too loud chattering. There are also counter seats like the original bakery in Liliha. Bakery has a good array of pastries with a good supply of their famous Cocoa Puffs. We had an early dinner at 5:45 so there was good enough parking right in front. Its still busy, but better chance of finding a parking stall and reasonable wait for a table. Meals at Nimitz always great. Comfortable, delicious food, friendly service. Had to resist dessert! Usually have the Mahi but the hubby loves the burger so I tried one. Yes its a winner! My only comment wish the grilled potato had a bit of crispy sear on it. Texture similar to a boiled potato? This Hawaiian owned bakery is awesome with a colorful selection of donuts and pastries that is breathtaking. My daughter says the Coco Puffs are a popular treat that people bring to work to share with coworkers. Coco Puffs are chocolate filled cream puffs topped with a butterscotch cream. Yes, I tried one, and it was sweet and delicious. We had Sunday brunch at the cafe. The place was busy when we arrived and I easily checked in at the self check in stand. We were seated in about ten minutes. The menu is filled with Hawaiian favorites as well as traditional breakfast and lunch items. I was a bit disappointed that there was no kid's menu for my granddaughter. We ended up buying her an adult pancake breakfast, which she only nibbled on. I had the Grilled Shrimp plate. The shrimp were huge and very good, but very difficult to peel. Their shrimp stuck to the shell as I cleaned them. While I liked my meal, I probably wouldn't get it again because of the difficulty peeling the shrimp. Their famous potato Mac salad is very good (a decadent feast of carbs) that I enjoyed. I had the multigrain rice, which was a hearty blend of grains and beans. The side of roasted corn was delicious. My daughter had the Country Omelette with bacon and cheese. She substituted a side salad for toast. She enjoyed her meal. Rhizza, our server, was friendly and attentive. They have clean and modern restrooms and a private parking lot. First impression, I thought the location was kinda hidden and small. But when you enter inside, it's actually huge! They have the bakery, sit down restaursnt area, and an open kitchen. We came around 4PM and were surprised it was almost empty (but slowly it did get busier). Our food came with complimentary bread with guava sauce. It was really good! The bread is toasted, crispy, and buttery. Everyone in my party enjoyed it. We did not expect our food items to come in really large portions. I loved the chicken karaage! The batter was light and crispy with great flavors and had a yummy sauce drizzled on top. It also came with a scoop of rice, buttered corn, and Mac salad. Mac salad was delicious! Prime rib sandwich came with salad and au jus sauce and a side of salad. It's good but also very filling. I didn't try the burger or teriyaki chicken but was told both were delicious. After dinner, we ordered a few items from the bakery to eat on the plane. You have to take a number and wait for them to call it. I got 2 kouign Amannn, 2 Dubai coco puff, and half dozen green tea puff. The kouign amann is a circular croissant. I liked that it was soft and flaky and had a sweet, crispy glaze over it. The Dubai coco puff had a strong pistachio crunchy flavor but I thought it was way too sweet for me personally. The Star of the show are the green tea cream puffs! I would come back to just order that! The top filling tasted like a thick creamy brown butter green tea-flavored icing. Update on this Liliha location 11-6-25. I decided to come here for a one stop shop breakfast and buying a bday cake. Well got seated right away but now to get serve we had water and menus but the server didn't come till about I would say 20 mins or so.but I must agree like short staff and people don't want to work if it's their 2nd job When the server came brought our famous grilled butter rolls and no where in sight after. When she finally came took our order and we waited another 10 mins or so for our food. We ate and left. So to the bakery now I wanted a dream cake and the counter person said sorry no cakes we have no decorator over here and we waiting for the cakes to come in from another bakery. Liliha Bakery is practically a landmark in Honolulu. Many locals grew up coming here and will speak of it nostalgically. So does it live up to the legend? Well, in some ways, yes. Today I am at the Nimitz location, near Montgomery Powersports. The ambiance is very nice; dimly lit, nicely decorated, with reggae and island music playing. I was dining alone, so they sat me at the counter on a chair that probably had some cushion to it in the '70s but has supported too many butts since then. They serve breakfast all day, putting a local spin on comfort foods like loco moco, kimchee fried rice, man nut waffles and lots more. The Mac nut waffle with karaage chicken is excellent. Today I tried the French toast - four big wedges of Hawaiian sweet bread with a generous dollop of whipped butter and a mound of tasty coconut whipped cream. The coffee is where they lose a star. I've honestly had better coffee on an aircraft carrier, where jet fuel in the water gives it that extra kick. Many of there dishes are served with their famous butter rolls. Honestly I don't get the appeal, but people rave about them. Greasy little crescent rolls served with a small plastic cup of, I guess, raspberry syrup? They're okay but don't live up to the hype. I'm sore locals who remember them fondly from childhood will want to meet me in the parking lot after school, but that's my assessment. Both dishes were pretty good! The prime rib French dunk came on a nice croissant bread and the meat was tender. The Mac nut waffle was sweet and yummy with tasty fried chicken karaage. Classic Oahu stop! My cousins brought us here several years ago for brunch and their cream puffs, so we had to come back for a late night sweet treat. We got their original cream puffs, poi donut, and chocolate banana cream pie. Their original cream puff comes with the standard vanilla custard filling. Theirs is not super sweet and the puff itself is so airy and light. Very addicting... Their poi donut surprised me and I ended up loving it more than I thought. Poi is a Hawaiian staple -- pounded taro root with a mild sweet flavor. But, the last time I had it, it was pretty tasteless and cold so I wasn't a huge fan. Nevertheless, this bakery did it justice with a mochi texture and yummy vanilla sugary glaze! Wish I bought a dozen of these. Their "chocolate" banana pie entails more of having a chocolate lined crust and then it's just a banana cream pie. It was delightful and had right amount of sweetness / creaminess. The crust was perfectly flaky and yummy. One note I will say is they don't offer slices of their pies and the worker helping us didn't seem pleased that we were ordering? First time here and loved our breakfast. They started us with warm butter rolls served with red guava....the red guava was REALLY good on top of the rolls. Let me preface this by saying I don't make it a habit of going into restaurants 30 min before closing. But I had to drop something off to their sister restaurant next door. We walk in at 9:30. Wait at the host stand and watch workers look at us and quickly turn to look the other way. This happened with four workers. Having visited Liliha Bakery numerous times, this was my first experience at the Nimitz location and it did not disappoint. I ordered the Portuguese sausage breakfast, and it was easily the best version I've had during my stay in Hawaii. The sausage had a delicious char-grilled flavor with a subtle sweetness that reminded me of Longanisa. The signature bread rolls served with raspberry jelly were exceptional. Honestly, I could be perfectly satisfied having just those for breakfast; they're that good. I also picked up some of their famous cream puffs to go, along with a container of the Chantilly spread and raspberry jelly, both of which I look forward to enjoying back home on toast or fresh rolls. We were a party of 7 adults and 3 children, and a baby. We did walk in after 9pm and half of our party weren't present. I told the hostess the rest were coming in 5 minutes. When it was 5 minutes, the lady asked us, are you sure it's 5 minutes, our kitchen last call is at 9:30, so I checked on my family and they arrived shortly after. My husband got his food first, he ordered a Mushroom Chicken plate, then my Dad in law got his Roast Pork House Special. Then another order came out, Oxtail Soup and then an Omelette. My family were halfway done with their food, and then the last two orders come around. A Salad with Salmon for my Aunty and mines. The food runner goes, "Beef Teri." My jaw dropped. I said, huh, beef or do you mean chicken? He goes, "beef." Oh my gosh. I told him, I ordered chicken teriyaki. They offer to fix it, but I politely declined. My husband said, by the time it comes out we're all going to be done eating. Mind you, I have my 2 y/o daughter waiting to eat with me, so I take the food. Would you consider this a big deal? To have to eat what you didn't order because you don't want to have to wait for them to fix it? I was upset, but I tried not to show it. I understand it happens. Anyway, my Husband's plate came with Mac salad and he clearly told the server mixed greens. Our server though, didn't make sure that we got our food, nor checked in on us. As we finished up our food, the server comes with containers and placed them on the table, didn't say, do you need these, just assumed we needed them. But yes we did. The bread they serve you to start is to DIE for! My wife and I devoured it so quick. It comes with a strawberry jam. The bread is so light and buttery and basically melts in your mouth. Super delicious! 3 pieces I think was a little to much though. I think I would get the 2 piece next time. Got it.with fried rice and Mac salad and corn. So good! The butter roll with the jelly is always so good. Also got some delicious cream puffs and mochi from the bakery. Service - really friendly. I usually frequent their Liliha location because I used to work down the road from there and preferred that location. This was my first time going to their Nimitz location, thanks to Donna O. We arrived on a weekend afternoon, it was busy in the parking lot! The three of us went to the display case. Plenty of baked goods and sweet treats are out for display. You can find the same stuff as their other locations such as their well-known items and specials. The workers are efficient, just pull a number and they'll call for you. Depending on how many people are working it can be a little wait. My Dad always has to have his Poi Donut and Coco Puff. I bought him those to satisfy his cravings! He loved them and appreciated the consistency in taste compared to other locations. There are plenty of Liliha Bakery's around the island. The one-off Nimitz is a popular one with locals. We ordered the loco moco, oxtail soup, New York steak, and grilled jumbo shrimp, and every single dish was a hit with generous portions; not a crumb was left behind at our table. Everything was flavorful, comforting, and clearly made with care. The ambiance was welcoming from the moment you walk in - spacious, bright, and fun to see both the kitchen and bakery in action alongside the restaurant seating.
