Cafe Kaila is a great, cute spot for brunch. They serve classic breakfast dishes along with lunch options that start at 11am, and the selection is solid--especially if you have a sweet tooth. My personal favorite is the French toast, which you can top with a mix of banana, blueberries, and strawberries for an extra $3-5. They also offer special off-menu sweet treats like cornbread waffles and banana bread French toast. We haven't tried those yet but plan to next time. We've been here a handful of times and it's becoming our go-to brunch place. I usually order the frittata omelette, which comes loaded with onions, mushrooms, and your choice of meat or mixed vegetables, plus a side of really good roasted potatoes. On our most recent visit we went for a combo to balance sweet and savory: soft scrambled eggs, turkey bacon, and two big slices of French toast with strawberries. It was delicious. We also ordered the pastrami eggs Benedict with sides of fried rice and roasted potatoes. We both left completely full and not at all disappointed. The staff is extremely friendly, and there's plenty of seating. One of the wife's co-workers recommended this breakfast spot. We liked it so much the first time that we ended up going back the next day. On the first day we were seated at about the middle of the restaurant and had a server that was friendly and attentive. I ordered the Eggs Benedict which for some reason has Turkey as well as Canadian Bacon and ended up being pretty good. The wife got the Kalua Pork Eggs Benedict and we split a short stack of pancakes. As I previously noted we really liked it and since we were struggling to find a breakfast spot for the next day we decided to go back. However this time we were seated in the back of the restaurant and the experience was completely different. We placed our orders and after that were pretty much ignored by our server, (a teenage looking male). I ordered an iced tea and for some reason they bring it to you without sugar, (this happened both times). The pancakes were delivered without butter and I wanted Tabasco for my eggs. So since our server wasn't coming around, I got up and asked someone for help. The server showed up and I asked him for the sugar, butter and Tabasco. He brought them to us and just dropped them on the table without saying a word. He never checked on us or came back around. After we finished eating a woman came around and brought us our check. I asked to speak to a manager and she said she was the manager. I told her that we had been there the day before and had a great experience, but on this day the service really left something to be desired. Our server seemed to have a bit of an attitude. She apologized and brought the check back and said that she had taken my iced tea off the bill. I appreciated the gesture, but really? Taking about $3 off the bill? Not very generous. It's a very popular place, and when we got there it was pretty busy, but honestly only waited like 15 min tops! Our server was super nice and we had a couple people check on us. There's certainly plentiful breakfast or brunch places in Hawaii but this place is special. A nice Sunday go to for some of my favorite breakfast choices. It's been about 13 years since I was here last. It was small the, but it sure seemed smaller this time. We were 10th on the wait list, but they turn tables quickly. There are also counter seats. There's only one bench out front if you have to wait, so you might have to stand. (Make sure to sign in; no one is stationed out front to record your name.)
