We had a part of four but when we arrived to the table, there was only three chairs. no attempt was made to get another chair, so we had to walk across the restraint and pull one from an uncleared still dirty table. She was very unfriendly, and I was worried about the service of the restaurant upon being seated. Our sever Hannah on the other was attentive despite the busy brunch rush. The food here was okay; the coffee is strong, which I like. The salmon toast was tasty and had just the right amount of flavor. Unfortunately, the service needs significant improvement. I arrived and was told that the tables were reserved and that they couldn't accommodate me. As I was walked to the bar, I confirmed the four empty tables were not available, and the hostess confirmed they were reserved. I sat at the bar for over an hour with direct view of the empty tables. 45 minutes into my stay, I spoke to the manager, Hannah, who relayed the hostess was "unclear I wanted a table". The two ladies adjacent to me thanked me for speaking up, as they had a similar interaction. Hannah later clarified that "there are some parties coming in shortly, and we could have probably accommodated [me]". An interesting experience here; not sure why multiple parties were forced to the bar when tables sat open for over an hour. I was finally offered a table after sitting at the bar for 50 minutes, completing my meal, and the manager heard me conversing with others regarding the situation. We live in the neighborhood and one day walked our dog past Westman's. After reading all the good reviews, we finally figured, "Eh, we go check 'em out." Just so we're clear, this review is only for dinner, and more specifically, the oxtail soup. I seen plenty people say the brunch is ono, so I definitely like come back and try dat. We even looked at the menu and already know what we want to try. This review isn't about the brunch. We arrived on time for our reservation and we were offered to sit inside or outside. We chose outside to see all the action going on since it's right next to a park with all the kids and families hanging out. We ordered a couple appetizers and our entrees. Ok the oxtail soup. It was....ahhhhh ok. Not bad, but definitely not "broke da mouth" kine. If you're looking for that rich, old-school local-style oxtail soup reminiscent of Kam Bowl, this is not it. To me, the broth tasted more like a shoyu-based dashi. I never really got that deep, beefy flavor that usually comes from simmering oxtails for hours. I also couldn't really taste the hint of star anise that gives traditional oxtail soup that signature aroma and flavor. It just came across a little flat for my taste. Almost like California hotels one now. Yeah that one changed too but that's another review. What really bummed me out was the amount of meat. For $28, I was expecting at least a couple more pieces of oxtail. I literally got one piece. ONE! The picture I posted is that one piece after I trimmed off the fat. I even looked around the bowl thinking, "Eh... maybe one more piece hiding at the bottom of the bowl?" After running my chopsticks along the bottom back and forth I came to the sad realization that I am only getting one. I highly recommend staying away from this dish and go somewhere else if you craving oxtail soup. Now, the service? Shoots, no complaints there. Taka was our waiter, and he was awesome--friendly, attentive, and always checking in on us. My wife liked his service so much she was ready to offer him a job! The other waiter was also on it, and even the hostess stopped by to see how everything was. The service was definitely the highlight of the night. We'll definitely give Westman's another shot because like I said, we heard good things about the brunch. I was gonna give this place a 1 star like my 1 piece oxtail but I'm giving it a 2 star because the service was awesome. Really great bustling atmosphere, I couldn't even reserve for the time I wanted the day before for brunch. I was looking forward to coming here, since it seemed to have good reviews. Unfortunately I was really disappointed. The matcha was so bad, tasting really astringent and not drinkable. I'm guessing they use culinary grade matcha instead of ceremonial to make this drink. When the food came, it was pretty underwhelming. It honestly reminded me of the complimentary breakfast you'd get at a 3-star hotel. A new addition to the area since we last visited in February this year. Made a few attempts to try this new cafe and finally did today with no reservation at around 11 am. Needed to try the soufflé pancakes as it was a signature item. TBH, it was a bit giggly when it arrived. A bit too mushy for me. The side of cream cheese whipped spread really enhanced the flavors. The tropical spread didn't really do much to the overall taste. 3.5/5 I really wanted to try the French toast but they just ran out. Bummer! I ended up getting the Omelet. Note: Not your typical omelette presentation. This one was baked in a cast iron dish. Texture of egg was like crème brulee. It was topped with Gruyère, spinach and mushrooms. When I say I loved loved the dish, I mean it. The side of frisee salad tossed in a perfectly seasoned and balanced vinaigrette and potatoes tender air fried. This dish I will crave. 5/5 My vanilla latte hot was lacking in flavor. I subbed with oat milk as I don't like diary milks and they didn't have coconut or couldn't do a breve. 3.5/5. Perhaps I should have just stuck to coffee Hubs washu---(forgot how to spell it) loco moco was tasty. The fried brussel sprouts and huge slices of mushrooms dressed with gravy was a hit for me. The downside was the the dish was not hot. Barely warm. 3.5/5 DD had her heart set on mahi mahi loco moco. The "cream of mushroom" sauce was absolutely delicious. Fish was a tab bit overcooked for me. But the sides of edamame and other veggies were so flavorful. I recently visited Westin's new location in Ward. The menu is a little more limited compared to the original Waikiki location, and I noticed the oxtail soup is no longer available. On the positive side, the new location is easier to access and there is plenty of free parking nearby. During my visit, I ordered the Westman Brekkie with sausage, eggs, mixed greens, roast beef, roasted zucchini, breakfast, potato, and sourdough toast. The meal was good overall, but nothing that really stood out as must try. I also tried their soufflé pancakes, which were light and fluffy. The outdoor seating area is a nice feature and provides more space for guest. The seating is covered, which helps when there's light rain, while still giving the restaurant and open airfield. They also have fly spinners set up, although they weren't needed during my visit. Overall, the food was decent, the location is convenient, and the atmosphere is comfortable. Some of you die hard brunch fans may remember when Westman Cafe was open in Waikiki in the former Bills Sydney location. I remember enjoying their souffle pancakes so I was excited to have them again at their new location in Kōʻula in Ward Village. The cafe is bright and modern and also offers patio seating. On the menu for breakfast and brunch are signature toasts, souffle pancakes, a variety of french toasts as well as island plate options of omelet, shakshuka, loco moco, and more. I ordered the avocado toast for myself and the souffle pancake for the table which usually has a cook time of 20-25 minutes. We were all surprised when the star of brunch showed up first. The server explained that sometimes there will be an extra order of souffle pancakes being made and we were the lucky table. They were airy and delicious. I really could have eaten them by myself. We had a lovely experience and the service was also very good. Only issue was shooing away flies when eating outside. Parking can also be a hassle as it gets crowded on the weekends. We enjoyed an early Father's Day breakfast at Westman Cafe with the family. We had 13 in our party and they were able to accommodate our group on two outdoor tables! The service was excellent and the food was delicious! Everyone ordered coffees, lattes, iced drinks. The latte art was so beautiful! The food came out hot and was presented very nicely! We met some friends for brunch and the Westman was perfectly located. We made a reservation and when we arrived we were greeted right away and our table was ready. We sat outside on the patio and had a nice view of the park. Our server came over straight away and was very attentive. We got started with some drinks and once we received those we placed our order. All of our food came out in a timely manner and everything was cooked fairly well with the exception of the Souffled pancakes, while the presentation was great the were either undercooked or deflated due to the wet and gooey texture. My friend and I went for brunch on Tuesday and was surprised at how packed it was. Also being right next to a playground is not ideal as it's loud. Service was ok. We got water, but our food came out before our drinks. I got the omelette which was tasty, but the salad was just not great. When working with arugula which is so bitter, the dressing has to help balance it out and it just didn't. It made it more bitter. We also shared the soufflé pancakes which were tasty and very jiggly, so they did a good job with those. They were creamy and kind of melted in your mouth. Getting the drinks after our food wasn't ideal, but my friend got an iced coffee and when she asked for creamer, the waitress said they didn't have any and brought regular milk. Decent alternative except they charged an extra $2 for the milk. I don't know who you don't offer cream for coffee and then charge for the only alternative available. The easiest parking would be at Whole Foods, but she doesn't like the narrowness of that parking structure. She parked at Ward Village Entertainment Complex and walked across the street. Westman Cafe is located on the ground level of the Kō'ula Building, across from Dean & Deluca. It's an open-air styled café with some annoying flies. Eventually, a server brought a spinning device for our table to assist with the problem, but the flies were still hanging around. Our server, Chris, was excellent! He was attentive and friendly! My friend had some questions, like: what's the most popular flavor for souffle pancakes... and she got the mixed berry. I ordered the Westman Brekkie with salmon. I enjoyed the roasted beets that came with it - as well as the potatoes, greens, roasted zucchini, scrambled eggs, and sourdough bread. Overall, we appreciated the pleasant decor and community table. The nice thing about this place is that it is new, the tables and seating are outside but protected from rain, and it is in a quiet, luxury environment and away from traffic. Lots of flying bugs though. Our server Jay was nice enough to bring to us a little bug repellent table fan, like the one on every other table. But they do not allow dogs!!! Thing starts to go downhill when they brought out the coffee, the sugar packs and the creamer, they are cheap and not up to standard. The sugar packs seemed old, and I only found a few packs of white sugar, and Sweet&Lows. There was not any Splenda or brown sugar, those sugar packs seemed to have been sitting out for a long time that the moisture had them glued together. Then along with the coffee creamer: we got 3 plastic tiny coffee creamers that are industrial and cheap. I expected fresh cream from this fancy place, but no, they are so cheap with sugar packs and creamers, that they really lowered and cheapened their standard while charging high prices. Very disappointed. The $22 dollar soufflé pancakes was soft and creamy, they give you 2 pancakes but small in size -two bites and they are gone, and I doubt that the blueberry sauce on the side were freshly made, because it tasted freezing cold. The french toast was nothing special, so was the rest of the food. Overall, disappointing! Also they do Not allow dogs, as the management stated to me when I booked the tables on the OpenTable app. This is an outdoor restaurant in a dog friendly community, why does this restaurant hate dogs? A nice touch was that they provided a small bug fan for the table, which I appreciated since Ward can have quite a few flies. Saw that this new place popped up and was excited to try it! Dined in for a girl's day brunch since it was my last day in O'ahu. The space is really cute. We had an outdoor table that overlooked some of the playground. Flies and gnats can be very annoying at times but they did provide us with fans to keep them at bay. We ordered a smoothie, some matcha lattes, and coffee lattes. They were okay, nothing out of the ordinary. We first ordered some soufflé pancakes to share which were really tasty. Fluffy, soft, and not too eggy! This was definitely the highlight of our meal. I also really enjoyed the vanilla bean whipped cream which had little specks of vanilla. It wasn't too sweet which was also a plus. We ordered washugyu beef and mahi-mahi loco mocos, shakshuka, an acai bowl, and also a washugyu steak bowl as our entrees. The timing was a bit off because our friend who had ordered an acai bowl ended up waiting a bit longer to get her item in comparison to the rest of us with normal entrees. I thought the presentation of the regular loco moco was fantastic. I was a little saddened to find that the flavor just wasn't hitting for me. While the patty itself was juicy, it felt like it lacked seasoning - a little more salt or pepper would have sufficed. I tried the patty with the gravy but it was kind of the same deal. It felt as though it leaned more towards a demi glace sauce but it also lacked flavor and depth. I saw lots of onions and mushrooms in the gravy and thought maybe more of that flavor would shine through. Despite that, the brussel sprouts were perfect. Perfectly crispy! The cabbage slaw and pickled veggies were also solid. I think one of the biggest things was that the mahi-mahi portion was significantly smaller in comparison to the regular loco moco. I know that this restaurant is geared for a more upscale setting but it truly felt like looking at a fine dining portion. At the same $22 price point, we assumed our friend would have got a little bit more for the price. We ended up giving her some of our loco moco to compensate. We did inquire about the portion size and the restaurant was kind enough of comp her meal so we were very appreciative about that. Unfortunately, our other friend who ordered a steak bowl had to send it back to the kitchen to be cooked a little longer. She ordered her steak medium rare and it was a little too blue. The acai bowl was nothing to write home about and was a little small for the price. The shakshuka was pretty good with chorizo, it very reminiscent of chili. Still at $18, I'm not sure I could justify that. At the end our meal, our friend also found a hair in her food but we were pretty much finished at that point so we just wrapped up and left. From what I've read, I know that this place opened recently so there is bound to be growing pains. This is definitely a lot of promise in the offerings and location but I think there definitely needs to be adjustments as far as the food and portion. I would like to say that throughout this experience, our server was really attentive and tried his best to attend to our needs. We all worked in the service industry in the past, so we understand how tough it can be to work with a table when things don't go according to plan. I came on a whim because I heard this area got an upgrade. I'm used to the dog park and not a playground so decided to see what the hype was all about and I remember that I had bookmark this place to try as I wanted to try the soufflé pancakes. I had no reservations and they were able to accommodate me. I was told I had a one hour limit. Because the soufflé pancakes take about 20+ minutes I opted not to get it thinking I would run out of time and did not want to be rushed as I was having a self-care, relaxing day. I opted for the French toast. I was glad I got to sit outside as it was not hot and was adjacent to the playground. There were not a lot of kids so it was just overlooking a park in my opinion. I have to say the woman that tended to me legitimately appeared to care about my well-being and checked on me often to make sure I was OK. I was impressed that they bring a little table fan out to keep the flies away. What I was not impressed with was the skimpy piece of French toast that I received. It was just one piece with a few banana slices next to it. I will say that the syrup that accompanied was delicious but $18 for one tiny piece of French toast is highway robbery even for that location. There is no way I was gonna be satisfied and call that a breakfast. Would I go again? Maybe. And that's a strong maybe. I just know that I would have to be going when I am not starving and I just want to eat something small. The three stars is for the skimpy meal. I would give five stars for service. read more

The Brekkie had salad, egg, one toast, beets, zucchini, and choice of meat, we got the pork sausage which wasn't bad it was tender and moist. Heard you have to make reservations in advance as it's something new so I booked it through Open Table. We got to our table quickly and got our drink order in asap. I've been there once before and really enjoyed the Shakahuka with Sourdough and chorizo, so I ordered it again. My friend ordered omelette brekkie. We both enjoyed our dishes however, I had to advise our server that the Shakahuka was not hot enough so the raw egg took awhile to cook leaving some of the clear slime. Although our server was very nice, we didn't see much of him and had drank our ice tea and coffee empty for a while. We actually got the check and we had to ask if we could get refills. Food takes too long to come out. Plus our food was under the heat lamp for awhile. Food was just so so.

Westman Cafe's new Ward Village location sits under Koula, directly beside Victoria Ward Park. The space is polished without feeling cramped, and the large sliding windows are its best feature. When they are open, the dining room almost becomes part of the park. It is an unusually pleasant place to eat dinner in Kakaako, especially once the heat begins to ease We ordered the loco moco and carbonara. Both were good, though neither quite matched the setting. The loco moco patty was the stronger component: crisp outside, soft and juicy inside, and cooked with care. The homemade gravy was admirable in principle but too thin, with no more depth than the store-bought versions used elsewhere. The carbonara was competent and fairly standard. Service throughout was professional, and the higher prices felt predictable for Ward rather than surprising The cocktails were the weak point. Ours were mediocre, and at ~$18 each, that is a difficult category in which to be merely adequate. Honolulu has much better drinks at the same price. The room may be enough reason to return, and the food probably will not stop you. I would order dinner, enjoy the open windows, and let someone else handle the cocktails read more

Great spot for brunch! Super aesthetic vibes and dishes. We ordered their soufflé pancakes and French toast with bacon and eggs and arugula. Everything was delish and good service too. read more
