This is one of the cutest cafes in Honolulu... maybe even all of Hawai'i. Going to Neko Koneko is like stepping into a studio Ghibli film. And the drinks? Absolutely delicious. I was first introduced to Neko Koneko from their bottled milk teas, hojicha, and matcha. I would see them at farmer's markets popping up, but their cafe really brings their drinks to the next level. I like how a lot of their iced drinks, when you dine in you can do a little pour over action so the ice doesn't water down the drink too much. When I first came by, I couldn't decide between a matcha and a coffee so I got both... and fully finished both drinks they were so good. Came in on a Friday morning and it wasn't too busy. The cafe feels like you're stepping into someone's home. It was my first time and the worker was so helpful in helping me choose a drink. I tried the shiro and caramel mac nut cold brew. Both were great and had just the right amount of sweetness. Cold brew wasn't too acidic. Cute little shop located across from the original L&L Drive Inn and around the corner of Liliha Bakery. They have a website that makes it easy for pick up. I ended up getting the bottled matcha latte and honey cinnamon latte. Per their website, one bottled drink has 2 servings so the 2 I bought (pictured) lasted me throughout the week. Cute Japanese coffee and tea shop in Liliha! I pass this place often and always wanted to try it while heading to work. I finally got a chance to check it out. Note there is only street parking. It is a small quaint cafe that features matcha drinks, cold brews, lemonades, and light pasties. The decor is super cute it reminds me of being in Japan. There is a large screen that features a Japanese DJ and the music is eclectic and vibey! The staff are also super friendly and you can earn points for your purchases. They sell pre bottled teas and coffees or you can have a drink k made for you how you like it in-store. They also have an in-store special drink menu. I ordered 2 matcha lattes lightly sweetened and a matcha loaf. The matcha was delicious! You can tell the matcha is of great quality! The matcha loaf was also delicious! It was quite large too. I was looking for coffee or tea after running an errand in town. Neko Koneko came up on Yelp with great reviews and was close to where I was in the Liliha area so I decided to head over. But uh-oh!! Just a heads up because this cute little cafe is street parking only. I got super lucky and scored the stall right in front of the shop (there's 3 stalls) but not sure what I'd do next time if there was no street parking close by? Anyway, once I got in there were menus right by the door which was convenient & they were quite extensive with a in-store & bottled menu! I spent a few minutes looking at it because everything sounded SO delicious. After about 5-7 mins of deliberation I decided on 3 drinks -- 2 of which I'd take home & drink in the coming days.... I literally wanted everything on that menu though! I ordered the Yuzu Sparkling Matcha to drink, and the Hojicha Latte and Kinako to take home in bottles. Yuzu sparkling matcha was very refreshing over ice and hit the spot if you're a yuzu lover like me. I also loved the richness of the hojicha latte too. I'd definitely order that one again because I also love hojicha. One more thing is...The bottled menu seems expensive, but for $9-11 per bottle you can actually get 2 normal sized drinks poured over ice at home which isn't so bad when you think of it that way? If I can score parking next time I'll try the Denki Kuro and Strawberry Matcha Latte! If I cannot find parking on Liliha, then unfortunately I'll have to pass (which is my primary reason for only 4 stars). But perhaps my tip would be to get there earlier on a Sunday because that's when I went & didn't experience any problems with parking or a long line! read more

If you like oat milk with your drinks, this place is for you. I believe all of their drink is oat milk based, but very subtle. Staff were friendly and let me try a bunch of their coffee. Their ube coffee was very good, and the strawberry milk was like pocky in a drink. I ended up with strawberry matcha but theirs are more like strawberry milk matcha. I was skeptical of bottled coffee but since I saw glowing reviews, I had to find out what the hype was all about. Came here on a Saturday and there was a long line out this unassuming shop. The line went really quick and when we got to the front, we were able to sample some flavors before we purchased it. From favorite to least favorite Lychee rose (5/5)- delicate and floral after taste but not overwhelming where it tasted like perfume. Absolutely delicious! Hojicha (5/5)- the bitterness of the hojicha cut the sweetness of the cold brew. Perfection. Blueberry matcha (4/5) loved how the blueberry didn't taste artificial and the matcha was smooth. Wished it was a little less sweet but it was delicious nonetheless. Orange (2.5/5)- way too sweet for my personal preference. Flavor was bold but my fiancee enjoyed it. Definitely needed the ice to water down the drink. Ube (2.5/5)- ube flavor was strong but personally felt like it was too sweet. If you like sweet then this might be the drink for you. I've heard of Neko Koneko from their farmer's market days. I never visited them at the markets; but I have tried their Strawberry Ichigo Milk, Matcha Latte, Chairo Cold Brew, amongst others. Now that they have a brick-n-mortar...sorta, as I recall when their fairly new space was a barber shop - possibly repurposed home - run by an elderly Korean woman. I recall getting a haircut and getting a bit uncomfortable...i got a neck massage with an electric handheld metal massage, from the 1980's. I would have been fine with just a hot towel. Parking...street metered parking...so it is difficult. Closed on Fridays they are open on the other days from 830a till 600p. Liliha Street is replete with Asian churches/temples...if you are a worshipper...your parking prayers may yet be answered. I am an agnostic but lately...I have been praying at the matcha altar. On my initial visit, I requested a Yuzu Matcha Soda...as good as any that I've had on the Isle - and there are a few excellent establishments that serve quality matcha beverages. I tried to order a savory pastry but was told it was a separate purchase and had to be paid via cash/Venmo...guess I have to carry some greenbacks on my next visitation. Waited for my drink at their outdoor patio...employee kindly showed me where it was. There is a side service door where they bring out your order...and collect the playing card given, instead of a numbered placard. I had the Queen of Black Cats ( jk, not sure what kinda card but it had a cat on it ). Picked up two milks before leaving; Ube Latte Milk and Melon Milk. Both...great. I have two new favorite drinks. I'll give the slight edge to the Ube Latte...Neko CoKoneko. They use oatmilk. Not a huge fan as I prefer almond or pistachio milk, but it is fine. I get the matcha craze...I am Japanese and have long been a convert. A bit skeptical of the ube craze but I've gradually become converted...to an ubeliever. I will preach the goodness of ube. My wife came across this place online when we were searching for coffee. We figured it was just your regular coffee shop. Little did we know we stumbled on our favorite placed to get coffee in Oahu. Parking is metered street parking. It can be tough depending the time of day but in my opinion, it's worth being patient. Shop is fairly small, I believe it seats around 15? Staff is always super nice here and can give some recommendations if things are sold out. Their merch is also really good, I wear one of their hats all the time but it's usually sold out (comes from Japan?). Their cold brew drinks come in bottles that are about 2 cups worth of coffee so fair deal in my opinion. All their flavored coffee is amazing. Tried the Hojicha Latte CB, Ube Latte CB, Matcha Latte CB, and the Black Sesame CB. Every since was we downed within 5 minutes. So delicious, right amount of flavor to milk ratio every time. I think this is one of my favorite coffee places on island. I've been about 4 or 5 times and have liked every item I've tried. This review is for the items I got today which are October/fall specials. First is the salted maple hojicha. I have gotten hojicha at two other places and was about to decide that hojicha was not my thing but I now I realize I do like it if prepared a certain way. This drink was layered and topped with a salted cold foam, the sweetness of the maple syrup and nuttiness of the hojicha worked together so nicely. It really was perfect and I'm sad to think it's only seasonal because I might be obsessed. My sister got the pumpkin spice matcha and it was equally delicious. The pumpkin flavor was subtle and balanced the matcha nicely. Both drinks were sweet so a traditional matcha/hojicha lover may not be thrilled but for me and others that like a little bit of sweetness it was perfect. As someone who is frequently victim of ordering the wrong thing, I really appreciate that they let you sample. The barista at the register has always sweet and helpful every time I've been. The only downside here is that parking can be a challenge. There's 2 or 3 metered spots in front of the store but if coming from H1 you'll have to turn around or make a left turn onto the spot which can be challenging. That struggle is worth it though for their delicious coffee and matcha. read more

Especially with the medical centers near by great for the medical staff to get and save for later in their shift! It would've been five stars for me, however, due to not being able to have oat milk or nut, milks my ability to try their drinks was very limited. However, my friend who cannot have dairy loved it. I can honestly say this was THE best hojicha latte I have had in my life/existence - just WOW. We happened upon this place when I was looking for fun lattes and matcha drinks to start our day. I was hooked by the cute bottles, but the great reviews did not lie. This location is tinyyy, but there are a ton of options when it comes to cafe drinks vs bottled options; and throw in their specials for a good time too. I was really intrigued by the kinako special they had but wasn't sure if I wanted to commit to a bottle. Fun fact, they do let you sample their standard (aka not specials) bottles so we tried the shiro (white chocolate coffee) and the hojicha. We were hooked after the samples and I was okay not getting the kinako because ya'll the hojicha latte was INCREDIBLE. Smooth, sweet but not too sweet, and such a good hojicha flavor. If I lived nearby, I would be in so much trouble because I'd load a truck with these lattes or go in every single day. Prices are definitely fair for the quality and quantity and the staff are really kind and happy to help inform any of your drink choices. We have been meaning to go to Neko Koneko for a while and finally had the chance! We were a bit deterred by the parking, as there is only street parking and not an abundance of it. There is a video on their Instagram with parking directions, which was helpful! We followed the road and the video and ended up finding a spot. The spots directly in front of Neko were taken but going a bit down, there was an opening on the street. Walking into the cafe, the space is quaint with very cozy decor. It is a bit boho with plants and green and brown tones all around the space. There are a few tables to sit at but not a ton of space. The counter is toward the back, with menus around the counter. They have coffees, teas, milks, and more. Some drinks come in the signature bottles and others come in plastic cups. We decided to get the strawberry matcha latte (ceremonial) and mocha (in the bottle). The service was efficient and the girls working were patient and kind. However, we felt the drinks were expensive, as the matcha came to be about $11 with an upcharge for the ceremonial matcha. The mocha was also about $10. For the amounts, we felt the price was too high. However, the quality of the drinks was good. The mocha was rich and deep in flavor. The matcha was good as well, with a solid creaminess. Finally a place that does their drinks one way and that way turns out to be really good. No specifying dairy or nut juice (that is what the USDA said to call it right?). Sweetness is, period. Amount of Ice? There is none. Boba or other particulate solids in my liquid drink? Nada. And best of all, no paper or compostable straw breaking in half when you stab the cover. Japanese inspired drinks. Always oat milk. Always good quality matcha or organic coffee. Always middle of the road sweetness. No cloying feeling when you're done. Always in a recyclable bottle. Working the way through the flavors. The kinako milk cold brew, kuro goma, hojicha latte cold brew all just work with the predominant flavors always coming through, ie, the kinako really does taste like kinako. $9.50 each. I've heard good things about Neko Koneko. After coming back from Japan, I've been on a matcha/hojicha kick. I happen to be in the area so I thought it would be a perfect time to try Neko Koneko. The store is located on Liliha st and it's only street parking. Lucky me I was able to find one as soon as I got there. The store is small, cozy and cute. They had a pop up going on when I was there, serving some kind of sandwich. Neko Koneko has only a few food items I believe. I loved the ambiance and felt like it would be a chill spot to bring my laptop one day and get some work done. I was in a hojicha mood but couldn't decide between the hojicha latte or hojicha cold brew. The girl let me sample the 2 which was nice. I opted for the hojicha cold brew since it was less sweet plus I wanted some extra caffeine! They give it you in their bottle but I like my drinks iced so she gave me a to-go cup with ice. You get about 2 drinks in the bottle which was $9.50, so not bad. The drink had a strong hojicha taste and the right amount of sweetness. Really yummy. I'll definitely be back! read more
