Today's review is for Mango Charm (50% sweetness) and Brown Sugar Milk Tea. BSMT sweetness level cannot be adjusted because there's no sugar added. I'd say it's at about 70%, maybe? Boba pearls are additional. The regular tapioca pearls today are perfectly al dente! They're a medium size--not the usual size or the tiny ones-- and not a struggle drinking through a boba straw. The Mango Charm is thick and icy cold, perfect for a hot summer day. I think 25% sweet would be good too. I managed to steal only two sips because the husband slurped all of it on the drive home. Decided to come here since its been a couple months and I was in the area taking a class at Salt Burn studio across the street. Got my usual Brown Sugar Milk Tea with boba and initially asked for a Honeydew milk tea for my grandma but they were already out of honeydew by the time I got there so decided to have my grandma try their tropical lava flow and she really enjoyed it! This is something new for her because even with the other boba places she has tried she hasn't tried anything like this before so I wasn't entirely sure how things would go. Despite this I'm super happy to report she actually really enjoyed it especially with the way the weather has been lately it seemed to have been refreshing for her! Also love that it doesn't take the employees super long to have the drinks ready and I probably waited less than 5 minutes which is great especially if you're trying to beat having to pay parking since only the first 30 minutes is free! read more

The matcha was smooth and earthy without being bitter, the mango added a bright natural sweetness, and the lychee jelly took it to another level--light, floral, and perfectly chewy. It was refreshing, not overly sweet, and tasted really fresh. The combo was balanced and fun to drink, especially with the little bursts of lychee in every sip. Sun Tea Mix is one of our favorite dessert spots in Hawaii and we make sure to go at least once every time we visit the island. We love their fluffly pancakes (soufflés) our favorite is the Creme brulee and Brown sugar boba soufflés (they can take about 20-30mins to make so just plan accordingly) - they are delicious, fresh, warm and just the right amount of sweetness. For the drinks our go to is the Mango Charm. We love the real mango chunks and bits in the drink and it isn't difficult to finish the whole drink in one sitting. It's also nice that you can customize your drink and sweetness level. Service is good and ambiance is homey - they have board games for your group to enjoy. They also provide stamp cards for loyalty which is a nice perk if you come often! read more

Very disappointing and frustrating experience at Sun Tea Mix. We arrived around 2 PM specifically because all of us wanted boba drinks--that was the whole reason we came. The cashier told us they were out of boba, so everyone had to order something else, and I ended up not ordering anything. What made me really upset was that after we sat down, I noticed other customers receiving drinks with boba in them. So apparently boba was available, even though we had just been told they were out. By the time I realized this, it was already too late for me to go back and order what I originally wanted. I don't understand why we were told there was no boba when other customers were clearly getting it. We came specifically for boba and I left without even getting a drink. Came back to try some of their other food items and just like the first time I went everything was amazing! I got to try their soufflé pancakes, their coconut puddings and their strawberry lime tea with crystal boba. Everything was super delicious! Staff was super friendly and helpful with recommendations and everything we got was not overly sweet or too much. Went here on a weeknight around 8PM and there was no line so our drinks came out quick! I really liked the atmosphere inside and looks like a good place to come and study or hangout. I got the Mango Lime Fruit tea and I subbed in crystal boba and got 50% sweetness! The drink was very refreshing esp in this Hawaii weather! The crystal boba was pretty standard but still good! Walked in here expecting it to be a bit more teeming with energy, but the people who come here are typically a bit quieter and more reserved. The girl who served my drink was friendly though and did her job. I ordered a large, classic milk tea. Boba, 50% ice, 50% sweetness. The boba was fine - a little tougher than I'd like, and seemed like it was covered in honey or something. Milk tea tasted good - almost reminiscent of a Hong Kong milk tea. If you're looking for places to park around here, you can park on the street side (metered) or around the corner there's a parking garage on the same block as Down To Earth. It's free for the first hour. Sun Tea Mix is relatively clean and I really like the high ceilings and open decor. I didn't really like the packages and boxes crowding the bathroom, but at least it's semi-hidden. Light music, easy-going atmosphere, and decent milk tea. I use this as a baseline to see how "seriously" boba shops take their stuff. I'd give it a solid 7/10 (and I've been to many shops before!) It ran me about $8 for a large, though. My friend brought me here. I've known about Sun Tea Mix for awhile but never tried it. Then suddenly I've been here 3 times in the last 4 months or so. It's such a cute, quaint little shop. The space is modern, clean, open, and has a bunch of seating options. The drink menu is pretty extensive/standard, something for everyone. This time I got the white peach oolong straight tea, 50% sweet, with boba. Boba has a good chew to it. I probably could've gone 25% sweet, but 50 was also fine. On another visit, I had a pineapple lilikoi (I think?) drink, and that was much better, for me. I would recommend going with fruity drinks. They use fresh fruit when possible. I hate giving mediocre reviews, especially because I love Sun Tea Mix generally, but I think this needs to be said: the smoogurts are not good. I'm used to Chaya and Yomies (which use thicker, unsweetened yoghurt) and the Sun Tea Mix strawberry smoogurt was not it. They use a bad quality, pre-sweetened vanilla yoghurt and the flavor completely clashed with the strawberry smoothie. If this was 5-6 dollars I wouldn't complain but with tip this drink was $9. I think Sun Tea Mix really needs to reconsider this drink and maybe change it to be better quality for the price point. The GOOD: I love studying here, there are outlets and huge tables, perfect for a group. The employees are always very kind and lovely and be sure to get a punch card as well! I also love their mojito drinks, the mango one being my favorite. The soufflé pancakes are also tasty, I tried the boba one which was fluffy, creamy, and not too sweet. The jiggly pancakes and the yogurt drinks here are S-tier. The strawberry avocado yogurt and the mango smoogurt are my favorites. The decor inside is nice and modern. Not bad for boba! This shop is located along Keawe Street, right in Kaka'ako. You can park in the parking garages at SALT or H-Mart for an hour for free, or hunt around for metered street parking. When you walk in, you're greeted by a bright, open space with modern decor; there are plenty of tables and couches that you can find a seat at! I ordered a matcha latte with boba at 0% sweetness. It did take a while for it to come out (~20 minutes) since it was pretty busy, but service was great + the staff was friendly! I thought my drink was interesting -- the matcha had a sweet chocolate-like flavor masking the matcha taste, which wasn't my favorite (I personally prefer something more bitter and smooth). This location allows for you to kind of hang out for a while with their very comfortable seating.
