Saw this place on Yelp and decided to check it out on a hot afternoon. The shave ice was refreshing, but the flavors didn't quite pack the punch I was expecting. I ordered the coconut & chocolate flavor, though I could barely taste the coconut. One thing I did appreciate was that it already came topped with mochi and fresh fruit, which was a nice bonus. I do wish they allowed you to mix and match any two flavors instead of limiting customers to their preset combinations--that would've made the experience even better. Overall, it was a good treat for a warm day, but I was hoping for a bit more flavor.
Guava smoothie. Very good, and friendly service, very clean bathroom. Walking back from Chinatown, ran into this place a few times. Glad we finally stopped! Next time we want to try the shave ice. Just too full this time.
Frostcity has enjoyed a cult following amongst my students for years, from the time they first opened in the University Area and after their move to their current S. King Street location near the intersection of Kalakaua Ave. My daughter and I decided to beat the heat and paid the establishment a visit. Easy free parking in the lot behind the establishment. If you're eastbound on S. King St., you make a R just before reaching the Continental building where Frostcity is located. A specialist in Taiwanese shave ice, Frostcity's portion sizes are dauntingly huge: large and larger, and at first glance, appear impossible for all but the extremely gluttonous to consume. Daughter ordered a Thai tea/matcha combo, while I tried the lychee/mango combo. While I first felt a little intimidated beholding my immense snow mountain of dessert, served with a side of fresh fruit: cantaloupe and grapes and housemade, tender mochi squares, I fell in love at first bite. The strawberry and mango, refreshing and natural, tasted exactly like fruit, and ever so slightly sweet, while the thin, fine, light ice shavings evaporated in the mouth, as I imagine a cloud might taste, making for a delightful and unique taste treat. Daughter's Thai tea/matcha was also perfect: distinct tea flavors, striking a pleasant balance of sweet and slightly bitter. Let's just say I finished my whole dessert by myself, with no trouble, and can't wait for my next visit to Frostcity!
It was my third time visiting Frostcity and I have nothing but positive reviews for their quality of service and yummy desserts! last night I tried the Thai Tea and Matcha Combo and am so tempted to go back again tonight!
They used to be by University and now they're at a new location on King across from Panda Express. They sell snow ice and hot Asian desserts. My mom and I prefer the hot Asian desserts. My husband and son like the snow ice. I got the walnut soup $7.50 with two mochi balls +$2.50. My mom got the mochi balls in ginger soup $7.50. It came with five mochi balls filled with black sesame. My hubby got the regular mango snow ice $10.50 and my son got the small combo snow ice with mango and coconut $10.55. The snow ice came with fruit pieces (strawberry, cantaloupe, watermelon and blueberry) and mochi pieces. Everyone was happy with that they ordered. The snow ice was light and fluffy. The flavor was good. It didn't have that artificial taste.
This is my favorite shave ice place! You can't go wrong with any of the flavors, and each one comes with fresh fruit and mochi balls! Inside is always clean and the decor is cute. They have parking in the back of the building. Service is always helpful and nice. I've been coming here even when they used to be by University Ave.
Mochi ball with ginger soup Could be less sweet Black sesame filling inside mochi ball (6 pieces) Hot! $8 for price of dish Will need to come back for shave ice (Has dairy free option)
Shaved Snow Dairy free Mango with watermelon, cantaloupe and jellies. SO GOOD. nice small dessert restaurant. Was warm outside but HOT inside(no air con?) Anyway had a great dessert large big enough to share.
Yum! Definitely not your typical shaved ice. Soft and creamy with just a hint of sweetness. Also, scored some plant based candies for $2. Only regret is not having some kind of condensed milk topping. Highly recommend.
We made a lap around before we found Frostcity. The parking can be tricky but it seems like many people park to pick up to-go food. Frostcity is small shop and we grabbed a two-top near the front. The shaved ice are set so no alterations were allowed, which was unfortunate but it probably makes it easier for the staff. Our shaved ice came out pretty quick and was yummy. Nothing I'd go out of my way for, but a nice treat if around the area.
yum yum! got green tea and thai tea combo. refreshing and comes out very quickly. small parking lot in the back.
Yummy. Cashier was so sweet. It was pretty empty, I thought these were well priced. The mochi was good too!
Of course we're back! It's a weekly thing, lol! We had new flavors this time and loved them all! (I particularly appreciate the fresh fruit and mochi slices which adorn each frost.) As always, service was great. Love how they pick up dishes so you have a clean table, and as you leave, they clean and wipe up for the next guests. There's anti bac gel for you to use at the iced water station before you enjoy your treats. The restroom in the back is conveniently separated from guests with a noren curtain, and they ask you keep the restroom door closed after departure. If you sit in the back, you will be entertained by the tv screen which has music, dancing and even subtitles;) PS There is a little step from the sidewalk into and out of the shop, with a sign to alert you to be careful. Parking is out back, which is so convenient. Just turn right into the lane after Panda Express, and left up the ramp. It can get crowded, but it's worth the wait!

Sad to find out Ice Monster closed permanently and we began a search for a new replacement. Frostcity is the winner! We ordered the combo watermelon/lychee and the mango shaved ice. Both options come with fruit and mochi as standard offerings. Compared to the Hawaiian shaved ice, the Asian shaved ice was so soft and flavorful without being too sweet. Quick note re location: It's a bit of a drive since it's not at Waikiki. But Waikiki can be annoyingly crowded and over priced. For those who have access to a car or can uber over, it's worth it! read more
It seemed like the McCully location moved near S. Beretania St. Parking is available on the streets. Gets pretty busy during peak hours. Looks like a little more dining table and space here. Cute decorations. I have tried their shave ice and it was good. I came back to try their mango pomelo sago and sesame mochi balls ginger soup. The mango pomelo is like the drink but in a bowl. Not too sweet. Very good. The sesame mochi balls were amazing, smooth and sweet! Perfect pairing with the ginger soup that was warm and spicy. Love it here! Great for group hangouts or a quick grab and go dessert. read more
Love me some frost city!! So much so that I had to go two days in a row back to back!! I've been wanting to try it for some time but then they shut down for a bit (vacation) and put it on my calendar to stop by as soon as they reopened! These are very tasty with light and finely shaved flavored ice and they add fresh fruit to each. So far my favorites were the green tea (matcha), the chocolate haupia and mango coconut. They also serve them with cute little spoons!! We also tried the drinks and got a guava which was delicious as well. Love how there's easy parking in the lot in back and enough tables to sit inside and enjoy. I'll continue to return and try more combos because they just can't miss!! read more

They do Taiwanese style shaved ice really well here! There's plenty of flavors and the texture is soft. We got the black sesame which had good flavor and was so smooth! I loved the fruit and mochi bits on the side too! Price was fair for a smaller size. Inside had plenty of seating and they're open late! read more

Why did I wait so long to try this place?! It was soooo good! I got the strawberry frost and it did not disappoint. I love that it comes with fresh fruit and mochi, literally my two favorite things. I inhaled my dessert lol. Cute little spot with booths and tables. Lots of parking in back lot. Can't wait to go back and try their Thai tea frost. read more

Was craving some sweets and found this place for shaved ice. Ordered at the counter and stayed for dine in. I got the black sesame single flavor frost and it came with mochi and fresh fruits. The frost had strong black sesame flavor and great texture. One of the best shaved ice I've had. Fruit was sweet too. Also got the black sesame soup and it came out very hot. Strong black sesame flavor as well. Love that they sprinkle black sesame on top. Small store with some decent amount of seating. Lots of parking in the back. read more

Birthday celebrant chose Frostcity for his Birthday dessert. After a ramen dinner, 16 of us headed to Frostcity. Luckily, there was parking and seats upon arrival. Perfect timing for this small shop with consistent patrons. It was a very Happy Birthday with his favorite Mud Pie. Frostcity was the perfect treat for all. read more
In the Continental Building. Parking in the lot behind the building up the small ramp. Right past Panda Express. First time at this new location. Menu seems like selection is a bit less. It's still good. Nice and refreshing. Friendly staff. There are restroom signs inside. No more discounts if check in for Yelp as in the old location check in for a discount for a drink. It's clean and bright. There are booths and tables and chairs. Small step to watchout when entering. We went later in the evening and there were spaces open in the parking lot. Mochi pieces and fresh fruit always tasty. read more

We decided to come here since the restaurant ran out of mud pie. I had the craving for mud pie so we gave this place a try. I can't really explain the taste. It's not ice cream and it's not really shaved ice. Hopefully you can see in the pictures what I'm trying to describe. Oh it's Taiwanese style "snow ice". Airy and creamy shaved ice. The mud pie was like coffee ice cream with pieces of chocolate blended in. It was accompanied with watermelon, grapes and mochi. The green tea had a condensed milk drizzle accompanied with grapes, cantaloupe and mochi. Our order came out quite quickly and we were fortunate to get a table. All the tables were taken with a line forming. This is even while it's raining outside. I'm not one really looking for ambiance. It's just filled with people chatting with each other in a full house. I enjoyed it but it's not the same as having a real mud pie. Craving satisfied but not fulfilled. read more
A cozy little dessert spot - the shave ice was super soft and plentiful ; got the thai tea and matcha split flavor, and also tried a bit of the chocolate and coconut flavors - would definitely want to come back for a future visit! - Miguel Morales Photography read more

Hey Miguel,…
I've already done a review for the Aiea location as my family and I have been going to that location pretty often haha. It's only mid- February and I have gone to frost city at least six times! And to my surprise they were recently at the Chinese New Year event in Chinatown! I was soooo excited and I even got a couple next to me to order one haha! My favorite flavors are the Strawberry Mango combo, Mudpie, or the Green Tea and Thai Tea. I also love that all of them come with fruit and mochi for toppings. I'm not sure if their mochi is house made but it's always so soft and fresh. Even working out of a tent my shaved ice came out perfect. Still light, cold, and refreshing! The cashier was also a really nice guy. I can't wait to keep getting my frosty city fix no matter the location. read more
Why I had not stumbled into Frostcity sooner is a mystery to me. Perhaps I spend too much time in too few places, so this is a wake up call for me to explore more! Service was quick, as expected for these shave ice places. The vibes here are trendy and youthful: various young friend groups were evidently gathered here on a winter Thursday evening. You might question why people would consume shave ice in the winter, but you just haven't lived somewhere with warm winters. Or maybe you just don't like shave ice enough! My eyes were immediately drawn to the flavor "Coconut-Pineapple-Thai Basil." The flavor combination of coconut, pineapple, and Thai basil is so specific and so unique, that it has to be good, right? Following this logic, I of course ordered the Coconut-Pineapple-Thai Basil Frost, and it was fantastic. Mochi pieces and grapes were the included toppings and added textural contrast. The green frost was rich, layered, and refreshing. Coconut and pineapple together is not new-- it's a staple (e.g., piña colada), and it's reliable. The Thai basil however was an unexpected ally in this combination, although perhaps I should have expected it all along! Earlier in my life, I had begun learning about combinations of fresh herbs with fruit, which is why I know that basil and mint go well with watermelon and strawberry for example. I should now start digging deeper into herb-fruit flavor combinations. read more
Never tried frost city until my friend took me a couple months back. And after that initial visit I've been back 3 times! Love the combo frosts. My personal favorite is the matcha and thai tea combo. But if I'm feeling more of fruity flavors I go for the mango and strawberry combo. Flavors are good, service is consistently friendly, and there's parking in the back of the building across from the Panda Express drive thru exit. If you dont think u have room for anymore, trust me you'll have room for the frosts here at frost city. It's literally like "eating flavored air". If you've never been, it's definitely worth checking out especially for the unique texture of the frost! 5 stars!! read more
This is my new favorite dessert place! While I do love other shave ice, I really love Taiwanese shave ice and was excited to find a place here! The ice is so fine and melts in your mouth! They do the flavors so well where it tastes real and also evenly throughout the whole thing, really such a yummy delicate dessert! Their flavor combos are great as well, I particularly liked the lychee watermelon! Already came here twice as I had to get my whole family to try it while they were visiting! Love it!! read more

How did I never go to Frostcity before! A friend suggested us to go after a filling sushi dinner. You know how you just want something a little sweet but not too heavy? Well this the place for me. It was a full house but we were able to squeeze in the door. Luckwas a table for 2 with our name on it. I let my friend order since I had never been there before. We both love coffee ice cream so that is what she ordered. I just wanted to try it since I should be watching my sugar intake. It was so lite and airy nor overly sweet. The dessert came with a little bit of strawberries, honeydew melon and mochi. OMG!! It is so yummy!! I can't wait to go back because I am craving it right now! read more

Wanted to try this place because their shaved ice seems unique. Tasted their lychee & watermelon and coconut & black sesame shaved ice. Shaved ice melts into your mouth. Lychee & watermelon flavor is a great combo. Coconut & black sesame doesn't taste great together, the black sesame is overpowering, you cannot taste the coconut flavor. read more

What I got: Green Tea and Thai Tea Combo Frost in a regular size - $12.50 + tax - Super light, refreshing, melts instantly in your mouth - Perfect dessert for when you don't want anything too heavy and won't get you feeling guilty - Both flavors were spot-on the taste! - There was more thai tea than green tea though. I would've appreciated more of the green tea, but it was still absolutely delicious nonetheless! - Came with several pieces of mochi (I think it was mango and lychee flavored?), honeydew, and watermelon Ambiance: Seating available indoors, but can fill up quite quickly Parking: Free private parking lot available in the back of the building Service: Workers were quick, sweet, and professional read more

I can't believe I only tried frost city now! I would describe the snow ice as an in between shaved ice and ice cream. There is texture but it instantly melts in your mouth as creamy. We got the combo of Thai tea and green tea. I really wish there was a black sesame and green tea. You can't make your own combo but could get two small snow ice. We added on grass jelly which is my favorite and pairs well. It comes with some fruit and 3 pieces of mochi. I can't wait to come back for the black sesame! I came at 9pm on a Saturday and it wasn't busy luckily. There's parking in the back of the building and seating inside. It's a simple casual spot to eat a nice dessert. You can also take out if you really wanted to. read more
We're visitors to Hawaii on vacation, but went with our son and GF who are locals and also have not been here. We were all pleasantly surprised. It's in a very small center, parking in back and the eating area itself is also VERY small. However, we were impressed with the size, quality and taste of Frost City's shave ice. We also got the hot Sesame "soup" which was delicious, but I love the taste of black sesame. read more
I found this place when looking for desserts and finally got to trying this out with a few friends after dinner. There was a section with different combinations you could choose from or you could do single flavors (forgot to take menu photos oops) and add additional toppings if you wanted. You could also choose between a small or a large. As a group or 3, we got a regular and it was enough for us to enjoy. We got the matcha and it was just sweet enough for us and I like how they included some fruit! It's a self service so you order up front and then they bring your order to you. There was a good amount of tables for you to sit at and enjoy your shave ice with friends and family. Parking: there is a private lot where you can park for free! If you like Ice Monster but don't want to drive into Waikiki, this place is for you. read more
Looking for a light, fluffy, refreshing treat after dinner? This is the place! Delicious creamy Taiwanese style shaved ice! Located on king street right near Panda Express. We couldn't decide what to try, so many delicious flavors! Cool thing, you can combine flavors! Then I stumbled upon 2 of my favorite kinds of tea....have to get it! +Regular Size - Green Tea & Thai Tea Combo Shave Ice ($11.50) - Very creamy with the condensed milk drizzled on top. It was like icecream, shave ice style. The fresh fruits and mochi gave nice texture. I like the spoons they provide, makes it easy to shovel in the dessert. Great to share! My one complaint is that they barely gave any green tea flavor, it was mostly Thai Tea. If I'm paying for 2 flavors, I would like it be more evenly balanced with both flavors. Okay greeting from workers, easy checkout, came out within 5 minutes. Good seating located near the back -booth style. Big plus - parking lot located in the back of the building! Decent space and well-lit for nighttime. Recommend! read more
Frost City relocated a few months ago from it's long time location on Beretania, now the block is boarded up. I believe I only visited once. Situated within the older Continental Building which has housed longtime tenant, Yakiniu Seoul. Parking is in the back. I've been here twice since they reopened here. Initially, ordered the regular sized watermelon Hong Kong style snow ice; then requested the lychee & watermelon combo, also regular sized. Both came with fruit and mochi on the side. The snow ice is soft and fluffy and not too sweet. Local style shave ice isn't generally as fine, and this is in-line with Japanese, Korean, and Taiwanese shaved ice desserts. read more

Frost City is always a fun dessert stop, but this visit was a bit of a mixed bag for me. I came specifically for Thai tea and ended up trying both the Thai Tea Smoothie and the Thai Tea Frost to compare. The Thai Tea Smoothie was solidly middle-of-the-road. The flavor leaned a little weak and icy, without that deep, fragrant Thai tea profile that makes you want to slow down and savor it. It wasn't bad, just not particularly memorable, and tasted more like a generic milk tea slush than something I'd go out of my way to order again. The Thai Tea Frost, on the other hand, was much closer to what I expect from Frost City. The texture was smoother and creamier, and the Thai tea flavor came through richer and more pronounced in each bite. This felt like a proper shaved-style dessert where the flavor matches the visuals--balanced sweetness, good intensity, and a finish that actually tastes like Thai tea, not just sugar and ice. Service was efficient and friendly, and the overall vibe is casual and easy for a quick dessert run. I'd happily come back, but next time I'll skip the smoothie and stick to the frosts, which clearly showcase what they do best. read more

Yes, there is! Our only non-dairy options are Lilikoi (Passion Fruit) and Mango.
Where is the best place to park?
They have a small parking lot right in front of the store.
What are the hours of operation?
I was wondering the same thing. I tried calling from morning until 4 pm and no one answered the phone. I wanted to know if they were still open.
