We only came once for the mango mochi but we should have been back to try others! You can see the staff actively making the mochi fresh. The whole half a mango in the mochi is no exaggeration. And the mango is the perfect level of sweet and slightly tart! It was definitely a first experience for us and we will have to visit next time we're back. Worth the drive out!
Kept seeing these random posts on IG regarding the mango mochi w/lima bean from Kansai Yamato. Stopped by shortly after we landed and to our surprise, they were sold out. We did however, snag the last 2 mango w/ whipped cream mochi along some other red bean mochi. Was a bit surprised that the aunties were arill making them though they were gonna close in less than 2 hours. We hopped into the car and turned on the ac while we opened up the first mango mochi. Wasn't a huge fan of the whipped cream but the mango was pretty sweet. The mochi had a nice chewy and soft texture to it. Sadly, wasn't a fan of the regular red bean or ube mochi but did enjoy the texture. Went back a few days later at 10 and saw a full fridge of the mango mochi w/ lima bean. This is likely the only thing I'd go back for which was pretty good. A full 1/2 of a mango sits inside a bit of white bean paste wrapped in a soft and chewy mochi. Only thing that would've made this even better is if the mango we had would've been sweeter. Decent mango taste but understand there's no way to guarantee whether a mango is sweet or not. Still prefer the unique mochi flavors at Nishodo but quite enjoyed the texture or the mochi her at Kansai. Did notice the mochi here still has a good texture even the next day.
What a special treat! Came In and bought the strawberry and banana filled mochi. Both amazing. I kept them in the fridge and ate them a day later and was still delicious with great mochi texture. The strawberry one had grape and blueberry with a cream cheese whipped filling the banana had chocolate and custard and was just as wonderful. Such a memorable sweet great my husband says that's scone his 2nd favorite treat in Oahu.

When we got here right when it opened there was a sign on the door that said mango mochis wouldn't be available until 10am (though other mochis including their strawberry mochi was available). So if you want the mango mochi specifically make sure to call and check in advance because it might not always be available or even in season! That said - the mochis were soft, almost too soft and needed more chew. The strawberry and mango centers were really good though. The mango was so ripe and juicy when we came in August! Worth trying at least once!
Fresh mochi stuffed with fresh fruit?! I'm there! This is the OG giant mochi stuffed with cream and fresh fruit. You can find them in select grocery stores which is where I discovered them. When I saw they had fresh mango stuffed mochi, I knew I had to make the drive out to this location. When I arrived at around 11am, they said they didn't make any mango mochi yet and to check back in ~1-1.5 hours. They also told me to call and ask if it's available to save time. Sure enough, when I called back around 12:30p they had it! They were making more when I walked in. It's literally half a ripe mango and lima bean paste all wrapped into fresh mochi. I also picked up their strawberry and banana whipped cream mochi which included a small layer of azuki bean paste. First off, the mango in the mochi was sweet and juicy. The lima bean paste added a nuttiness and the soft, chewy mochi all went so well together. Next, the strawberry banana whipped cream one with azuki beans had so many dimensions. They fresh strawberry and banana, the fluffy whipped cream, the azuki bean added some earthiness. Since the strawberry and banana were sliced, you get a different bite each time. Some with both fruit, some with just one, some bites with azuki and some with just whipped cream. Since the mochi is huge, you can't possibly bite through the whole thing at once. Overall, super cute shop, super fresh mochi, and great service! I'll be back!
I arrived right when they opened and was surprised there was a big assortment ready for purchase. Mango daifuku $8 - this would be better to eat with a knife and fork. The mango was sweet and mochi chewy but I didn't find it worked well together.

I had to come check out Kansai Yamato for their mango mochi. It's really good! The mochi wrapper itself is super soft and has that perfect chewy texture you want. Now, I know everyone online compares everything to Moignet over in Chinatown in Las Vegas. I tried the mango mochi there too and it was delicious. Honestly though, I'm not trying to compare the two because everyone has their own opinion and tastes things differently. For me, the only real difference is the actual mango they use. Moignet uses that super sweet Philippine Carabao or Ataulfo blend, so the flavor profile is just a bit different here. But hey, it still tastes really good! The fruit is fresh and it totally satisfies the craving. Definitely recommend checking them out if you're looking for a good mochi spot or you haven't tried it.

I arrived around 10am and they were already sold out on some of their goodies. I was able to get 3 items: Strawberries and Cream which was my favorite as it was filled with fresh whipped cream and whole strawberries, Mango which was just a half of mango enveloped in a thin layer of mango mochi, and the Mango with a thin layer of cream cheese inside. The mangos were perfectly ripened but I can barely notice the mango with cream cheese and it was not enough to make a difference. I do highly recommend checking out this place as the mochi has the best consistency and flavor.
Always wanted to go to their shop but since it's far from where we live, I didn't make it out there: We finally went to Kansai Yamato because my boyfriend wanted to try their fresh mango mochi. I've always been a fan of them since they were in the old 99 Ranch so I wasn't complaining about going there lol. We parked in the open lot on the left of the store. But you could also park in the parking inside. When we entered, it's a very small store that's hard to walk around if there's people in there with you. We got the fruit parfait cups, the fresh mango mochi, and the ones on the stick (which I forgot to take a pic of). The parfait cups were good with cream cheese, strawberries, and mochi. I didn't care for the mochi with the sweet soy sauce on it although I know that's what Japan is known for. And the fresh mango mochi was good. The only thing I didn't like was the Lima bean paste inside. I'm not a fan of that. I would recommend eating fast since it's fresh and the wetness of the mango can make the mochi soft and rip. I'm glad we got to try new items. Can't wait to go back and get their peanut butter mochi and other favs. The cashier that helped us was very nice and gave us a bag even though we said we didn't need one. If you love mochi, this place is for you!

The texture of the mochi is soft and stretchy, while the different filling gives it that extra sweet and tasty experience. I would love to return and try their other mochis. 10/10 recommend!
Got the strawberry n cream mochi and it was quite disappointing. It costed over $6. It contains two small strawberries with a lot of cream and very thick mochi on the outside to make up for the size of the big strawberry mochi. I personally don't like very thickness of mochi and would rather have smaller individual mochis rather than eating a big one like this.
Came here around 11 and they were already out of a lot of flavors. We were lucky to get the mango though! Wanted to try strawberry. The mango mochi is for sure worth all the rave. It was the perfect bite of mochi and the mango was sweet and fresh. Service was friendly and fast despite the line out the door. It's very small inside and can only fit about 10 people at a time. read more
Not sure if this is really worth the hype. I came 3 times to get the mango mochi. The first time I arrived at 11am and they said they were sold out. The sign said they have it everyday at 11am. I came the next day at 11:05am and they said they were sold out and already sold 100. How is that possible if it's only available at 11? Very confusing. They said people were upset so they decided to try preorders for pick up the next day. So I ordered 2. Came back the third day to get it finally. Each one is $8 and pretty large. The mochi was great but the mango wasn't ripe. One was riper than the other but the one that wasn't really wasn't. A bit disappointing. read more

Hole in the wall mochi shop on University right next to Betty's Burger. Went in to get the viral Mango mochi for $8. It's huge!! Almost the size of my hand. They use an entire side slice of mango. Mochi was really soft, chewy & with a slight mango flavor. Mango was sweet but had a lot of fibers in it. I usually get their peanut butter mochi or honeydew melon mochi from Don Quijote & it's always so soft & tasty! Glad I could get some mochi from their actual store. read more
From California to Hawaii - This was one of the top dessert places I wanted to try during my visit :) I had seen so much hype on the huge mango mochi and knew I wanted to pay a visit. However, I was so sad because I found out it was out of season once I got there!!! Such a bummer, but I still decided to try a few other options they had.. It's a very small shop and the kind lady in front gave me suggestions on what else were popular there. I decided to grab the Strawberries N Cream, Ube Crumble, Peanut Butter Mochi, and Red Bean mochi for my family and I to try. The mochi was SO soft!! My favorite had to be the strawberries n cream one. The strawberry in the middle gave some freshness to the mochi. The peanut butter mochi is one of their popular options and I enjoyed that one as well. I hope that next time I visit Hawaii the mango mochi will be in stock. Crossed fingers! read more

Kind of a hole in the wall. So it seems that it is owned by a Chinese owner. She approves whether customizations can be done or it. It is nice that they do customize orders. However, two things we found out; 1) the prices are not lower than anywhere else that they sell their mochi even though they are the wholesaler. 2) the items made there are sold elsewhere like Don quijote so you really don't have to come here. no different types of mochi that can't be found elsewhere except maybe the mango (I'm not sure if I saw it at Don quijote.) They really should be consider giving a discount to customers who come to visit. Mochis are good -but not that healthy. No preservatives but coloring used and too much sugar in my opinion. I tried their mango mochi. It was good but honestly, I would rather just eat a whole mango by itself - healthier. We also like the peanut butter mochi but customized it to not have the coloring - just plain white rice mochi. I also saw that they used a pre packaged package of red bean paste - so not made by them from scratch I don't think. We liked that the rice flour that makes the mochi is really soft... not sure if they make this themselves. I would probably next time ask to customize no sugar in the flour.... I saw the Chinese ladies making the mochi so they are freshly made. read more
A MUST TRY! I love fresh mochi. I love small business! This place is both!!! Truly, the workers were so kind and the mochi was the most fresh we have ever had. Had to try the insta-famous mango mochi and it did not disappoint. This little place is reasonably priced and well worth stopping. read more
I am a big fan of mochi so when I arrived in Honolulu this was one of the hole in the way places I wanted to try. I came later on in the day and they still had a lot of different varieties. I got a few of their red bean mochi and the popular peanut butter ones. The red bean mochi was okay and I much prefer the peanut butter one. The mochi outside was soft and everything wasn't too sweet. They were all good. I just wish they had more flavors. The shop is a grab and go type of spot. Not any place to sit and enjoy your treat. They make the mochi fresh everyday and you can watch the ladies making them in front of you. It's worth checking out if you are in the area and want some mochi. Parking is a little tough since there was limited street parking across the street. read more

Pro-tip: if you're coming for the mango mochi, make sure you call and ask if it's in season because they don't have it all the time! Highlights: The mochi was really soft and chewy - the best texture! I got one of the sets that included for different flavors and thought it was delicious. Lowlights: I was super disappointed they didn't have the mango mochi. I wish you could choose your own assortment. No one really greets you when you walk into the store, you're left to your own devices. It was unclear if you could grab things from the freezer that are curtained off. read more
Review for the mochi: Definitely amazing, delicious, and soft. They had fresh fruits in the strawberry mochi and the mango mochi. The cookie and cream mochi has an Oreo inside it. You can see the mochi being made in the same area, which was cool. I wanted to try the kinako too but they came in the mochi combo platter sadly. Honestly they were all very good and you can't go wrong with them. My parents really enjoyed the red beans mochi. read more
Mango mochi! Mic drop! Over the years I've heard mixed reviews of Kansai Yamato. The mochi is not Japanese and Chinese, workers are unfriendly, parking is tough. Well I'd like to give my honest experience. I visited Kansai Yamato for the mango mochi. My friends have raved about it so much I had to try. Located in Pucks Alley ground floor, the store faces University. Parking is free for 1 hr and is contactless. Score! Upon entering the refrigerated mochis are on the right. That is where the strawberry, ube, and mango mochi can be found. I'd recommend calling ahead to verify that the mango mochi is available and if you can reserve you order. It goes fast! The mango mochi is basically half a mango. Yes half a mango and it's not chopped up or pureed. It's a huge chunk of perfectly ripe mango. My parents think it's a Hayden mango. Frankly I have no clue but it's really delicious. The small schmear of white bean paste gives a subtle sweetness. And it's all enrobed is a pillowy soft mochi. My parents and I literally inhaled the entire mochi is seconds. We had the second one the next day and it was still pretty darn perfect. I am still thinking about this mochi and can't believe mango season is nearly over. Meaning I'll probably have to wait until next year to get this mochi. Overall I like Kansai Yamato. While the name is Japanese I get the sense it's Chinese run/owned. Tomato tohmato... all I can say is the mochi is solid. Service was friendly and helpful. The many ladies making mochi were friendly. My absolute favorite mochi here is the strawberry and creme! There's a huge juicy strawberry in the center, wrapped in a layer of fluffy cream and the softest mochi ever. The texture is perfectly chewy without being sticky, and it just melts in your mouth. The mochi platter is a great choice if you enjoy classic red bean or traditional flavors. Personally, I'm not a big red bean fan, so I always go for the refrigerated creme mochis instead. They're light, creamy, and super refreshing. Everything here tastes fresh and handmade! read more
I thought I didn't like mochi but I guess I just never had fresh good mochi because oh my goodness this was life changing. I was going to an event and wanted to take dessert and had heard good things about Kansai Yamato so I stopped by. I parked in Pucks Alley and went within an hour of closing and was a bit confused when I walked in because you almost directly walk into the kitchen area and all the aunties were making mochi. I was looking for a menu or the items on display but couldn't see them. Eventually one of the aunties saw I was confused and told me to look to the right and open the refrigerated case to see the items. I ended up getting a mix platter of mochi (forgot to take a picture) and then this special strawberries and cream mochi for myself. Everyone at the event said it was probably the best mochi they've had and I ate this entire huge strawberry mochi messily in the car because it was that good. They have other fruits as well like mango seasonally which I also tried and was very very good. This will definitely be my go to stop for desserts before going to any event/potluck. If you have every thought maybe you don't like mochi, go to Kansai Yamata and give it another shot, especially if you get the cream and fruit stuffed one, incredible. read more

Located on university in Pucks Alley. When you enter into the parking, they are on the left side. Betty's burger on their right mochi on the left. Parking is in the back. I was there for less than an hour, and it was free. There were a lot of stalls, but then again it wasn't during the lunch hour. They have a lot to choose from. When you walk in, you can see them making the mochi. There's a little walkway that you follow to the register. I found the mango mochi, which is most amazing . It's like an actual slice of mango in the mochi. Not mango flavored are real slice of mango. I must try this again. I couldn't even tell you how much it was. I was just excited to be able to get one. Casual location, no frills... just a bunch of Staff making mochi read more
