Review for the mochi: Definitely amazing, delicious, and soft. They had fresh fruits in the strawberry mochi and the mango mochi. The cookie and cream mochi has an Oreo inside it. You can see the mochi being made in the same area, which was cool. I wanted to try the kinako too but they came in the mochi combo platter sadly. Honestly they were all very good and you can't go wrong with them. My parents really enjoyed the red beans mochi.

Delicious super fresh mochi. Little hole in the wall. We tried the mango, ube, strawberry and various others. Best eaten on the day it was made.

I am a big fan of mochi so when I arrived in Honolulu this was one of the hole in the way places I wanted to try. I came later on in the day and they still had a lot of different varieties. I got a few of their red bean mochi and the popular peanut butter ones. The red bean mochi was okay and I much prefer the peanut butter one. The mochi outside was soft and everything wasn't too sweet. They were all good. I just wish they had more flavors. The shop is a grab and go type of spot. Not any place to sit and enjoy your treat. They make the mochi fresh everyday and you can watch the ladies making them in front of you. It's worth checking out if you are in the area and want some mochi. Parking is a little tough since there was limited street parking across the street.

Pro-tip: if you're coming for the mango mochi, make sure you call and ask if it's in season because they don't have it all the time! Highlights: The mochi was really soft and chewy - the best texture! I got one of the sets that included for different flavors and thought it was delicious. Lowlights: I was super disappointed they didn't have the mango mochi. I wish you could choose your own assortment. No one really greets you when you walk into the store, you're left to your own devices. It was unclear if you could grab things from the freezer that are curtained off.

Mango mochi! Mic drop! Over the years I've heard mixed reviews of Kansai Yamato. The mochi is not Japanese and Chinese, workers are unfriendly, parking is tough. Well I'd like to give my honest experience. I visited Kansai Yamato for the mango mochi. My friends have raved about it so much I had to try. Located in Pucks Alley ground floor, the store faces University. Parking is free for 1 hr and is contactless. Score! Upon entering the refrigerated mochis are on the right. That is where the strawberry, ube, and mango mochi can be found. I'd recommend calling ahead to verify that the mango mochi is available and if you can reserve you order. It goes fast! The mango mochi is basically half a mango. Yes half a mango and it's not chopped up or pureed. It's a huge chunk of perfectly ripe mango. My parents think it's a Hayden mango. Frankly I have no clue but it's really delicious. The small schmear of white bean paste gives a subtle sweetness. And it's all enrobed is a pillowy soft mochi. My parents and I literally inhaled the entire mochi is seconds. We had the second one the next day and it was still pretty darn perfect. I am still thinking about this mochi and can't believe mango season is nearly over. Meaning I'll probably have to wait until next year to get this mochi. Overall I like Kansai Yamato. While the name is Japanese I get the sense it's Chinese run/owned. Tomato tohmato... all I can say is the mochi is solid. Service was friendly and helpful. The many ladies making mochi were friendly. Definitely a must try! LOCATION: 4/5 FOOD: 5/5 SERVICE:4/5 VALUE: 4/5 AMBIANCE:3/5 CLEANLINESS: 3/5 PARKING: 5/5

My absolute favorite mochi here is the strawberry and creme! There's a huge juicy strawberry in the center, wrapped in a layer of fluffy cream and the softest mochi ever. The texture is perfectly chewy without being sticky, and it just melts in your mouth. The mochi platter is a great choice if you enjoy classic red bean or traditional flavors. Personally, I'm not a big red bean fan, so I always go for the refrigerated creme mochis instead. They're light, creamy, and super refreshing. Everything here tastes fresh and handmade!

I thought I didn't like mochi but I guess I just never had fresh good mochi because oh my goodness this was life changing. I was going to an event and wanted to take dessert and had heard good things about Kansai Yamato so I stopped by. I parked in Pucks Alley and went within an hour of closing and was a bit confused when I walked in because you almost directly walk into the kitchen area and all the aunties were making mochi. I was looking for a menu or the items on display but couldn't see them. Eventually one of the aunties saw I was confused and told me to look to the right and open the refrigerated case to see the items. I ended up getting a mix platter of mochi (forgot to take a picture) and then this special strawberries and cream mochi for myself. Everyone at the event said it was probably the best mochi they've had and I ate this entire huge strawberry mochi messily in the car because it was that good. They have other fruits as well like mango seasonally which I also tried and was very very good. This will definitely be my go to stop for desserts before going to any event/potluck. If you have every thought maybe you don't like mochi, go to Kansai Yamata and give it another shot, especially if you get the cream and fruit stuffed one, incredible.

Still yummy chewy and not too sweet! Ladies there are always nice and helpful. You can see them making the mochi as well. Small place but cures all your mochi cravings!

Located on university in Pucks Alley. When you enter into the parking, they are on the left side. Betty's burger on their right mochi on the left. Parking is in the back. I was there for less than an hour, and it was free. There were a lot of stalls, but then again it wasn't during the lunch hour. They have a lot to choose from. When you walk in, you can see them making the mochi. There's a little walkway that you follow to the register. I found the mango mochi, which is most amazing . It's like an actual slice of mango in the mochi. Not mango flavored are real slice of mango. I must try this again. I couldn't even tell you how much it was. I was just excited to be able to get one. Casual location, no frills... just a bunch of Staff making mochi

Came by yesterday for the mango mochi specifically. We tried the regular mango mochi with a half slice of mango inside, also seemed like there might've been a thin layer of shiroan inside? Also tried the mango cream mochi too. They also sell their regular daifuku on the side. It's pretty much what you'd expect. The mango was sweet, maybe slightly overripe where it was getting a little tarte/acidic. Otherwise, it was very juicy! The mango and cream mochi was light and loaded. Mango sat on the bottom. I'm not the biggest fan of whipped cream so I didn't enjoy it but my friend was a huge fan! Definitely recommend if you're wanting to try something new/unique. I personally have not encountered mochi with fresh mango inside when in Japan so it's nice to try a modern twist on traditional mochi!

Unassuming shop with incredibly fresh mochi. The must order: Mango Mochi was delicious (-- the mochi was fresh, the mango was large and sweet. They definitely give you enough mango. Can skip: The other mango mochi with cream (smaller) was a bit overwhelming with the cream. (6/10) The Oreo mochi was overly sweet and filled with cream. (6/10) Service was fast and nice! They gave us a small discount because we were following them on instagram!

Been here before and their mochi never disappoints. This time around came to pick up the Mango Mochi Cream and Ube Cookie Crumb mochi bombs. Maybe they're not called "bombs", but they're shaped like one. This was sooooo OISHI, ONO, DELICIOUS!! Soft mochi, filled with cream and yummy goodness!! And the Mango mochi, is filled with cream and pieces of mango!! Both are seriously to die for!! It was $5 something, but I'll be back for a special treat!!! There's construction in front of the store, but lots of free parking behind the store. Check them out, it will not disappoint!!!

Super fresh mochi - not exactly my cup of tea though. Rediscovered this mochi spot thanks to Instagram, after initially seeing them at Times and Don Quijote. Got there 30 minutes early and saw three older ladies busy making fresh mochi. They were nice and let me shop before opening at 8am. The Giant Mango Mochi here is a game-changer: a big, satisfying chunk of fresh mango wrapped in perfectly soft mochi. Confession: I'm not a bean paste fan, so I wish it didn't have that smidge of white bean paste, but that's just me. Also, the mango was a bit fibrous, but that's expected. I personally preferred the strawberry crème which tasted like pie. The mango was good too just not quite in season. This hole-in-the-wall serves seriously fresh mochi!

I don't really have a sweet tooth-I'm a no icing, no frosting kind of girl. I wouldn't dream of eating a cinnamon roll with icing, that's a no for me. But their donuts are delicious all the same and can definitely scratch the itch if you do have a sweet tooth. As someone who's vegan, it can be hard to find a dessert I actually feel good about, and this is one of those places. Everything is taro-based and cooked in coconut oil, which I really appreciate. Just a heads up-all of their donuts are taro donuts. The flavors come from the toppings, so if you see something like a strawberry one, the donut itself isn't strawberry--it's the topping. Their offerings change, ( they do have their core donuts that don't change-and I usually go for one "naked"--no glaze. Sometimes I'll get the honey and sea salt one. When you get the last one, it's like the feeling that you won!" SERVICE: fully staffed INTERIOR: when you enter the line forms to the left n' moves across to the right, narrow space, no dine-in just pick up n' go, canned soft drinks n' bottled water are available for purchase that are located in the fridges to the far left. EXTERIOR: next door to Ubae in Kalihi WAIT TIME: right under 10 mins from entering to leaving PARKING: free lot OVERALL COMMENTS: it's been years since my last visit n' I usually come for the poi malasadas so when I saw that they had one banana fritter, I had to have it! I've only had a banana fritter in Cali so this was a nice surprise. Bc it was banana mixed with apple, it had a hint of banana flavor. Crunchy n' glazed exterior with a very soft n' cinnamon interior. The malasadas are always tasty. Out of the poi, strawberry, n' orange, the orange has the most flavor come through. Ofc my kids highly enjoyed their donuts. Prices are really good on all the items we got ranging between $1.55 - $2.12; we spent right under $12 for everything. Will be back again!

So on this morning, when we had some free time, we decided to stop. The shop itself is rather small, with a couple of large display cases filled with donuts and a few small tables tucked into the corner. For my pastry on this morning, I chose the coconut croissant donut. From the time I stood in line until I was out the door was less than 5 minutes. My donut here ended up being quite good as it was light and you could really see the lamination in it. The coconut flakes on top added a nice flavor. The sticky glaze was fantastic as it reminded me of caramel and helped keep the coconut from falling off. The bottom line for me is that I would head back here again in the future. I enjoyed my donut here and was definitely eyeing the ube coconut cake donut as well.

During our recent trip to Waikiki, we set out on foot with the sun to see what we could see. The quixotic blend of homelessness in front of the Fendi store really drove home the duality of this place. But that's also a different review... As for Donut King, he may well be the actual Monarch of Fried Dough. A delectable selection of fresh donuts, still warm inside on a couple of them, and melt-in-your-mouth soft. My usual chocolate old fashioned was particularly good here... is that a hint of coconut oil? Or did I just have a little Hawaiian Tropic sunscreen on my fingers before I ate? No one knows. And at the end of the day, it doesn't matter. What does matter is that this place is a cool little donut shop that made me feel like a local when I walked in. Service with a smile, regular ol' donut prices instead of weird designer pastry mark-ups, and plenty of Aloha. Worth the trouble of trying to find parking, but even better if you're on foot, and can walk off that little bit of sweetness.

We now see a For lease sign on one of the greatest Donut shops there is! This dedicated, friendly, consistent owner, his wife, and child was a great honor to have met in my lifetime. I and my fellow colleagues frequent this perfectly hidden Gem buying dozens of Donuts for the team these past 6 years. Prior to that I would visit this shop on my own going to and returning from work as a daily regime. This place was very much loved by everyone you passed by in and out of this business. Donuts, Bear claws, Cinnamon rolls and so much more. Such a sad sad loss that this family owned business is no longer with us. You can follow them on Instagram and order through messaging, pay with PayPal or Venmo and let him know when you will be there (park on the street, he will tell you where) and they come and bring them to you. Excellent service, price ($20 for a dozen), and taste there's a reason why I come from Kaneohe to grab my Donuts .
