Great service, the workers were helpful and nice. The shop was clean and there were lots of seating. They offered games to play, there was a piano, and claw machines. There were many flavors of ice cream to choose from and you can sample the flavors. I didn't particularly care for the ice cream after trying some flavors. I just settled on a flavor. The person I was with liked the ice cream. Just a matter of preference. Street parking. Shop is located at the corner across Moiliili Park and First Hawaii Bank.

Fairly new ice cream location at the corner of King Street and McCully. Nice big seating area, a piano (a sign says that you must know how to play though) and cute retro styling to boot. The ice cream is homemade and very creamy. We ordered pandan with coconut and ube flavor combination in a cup. We also tried the lychee with mochi bits. The pandan with coconut had an incredible flavor! Of course, we'd need to try the many other flavors but we'll save that for another time. Parking is very limited as it is for most businesses in the area. Service was topnotch!

Came in on a weeknight and the place was packed! I love that there's a lot of seating though to enjoy your treats. Tons of flavors, although about 4-5 were sold out for the day already. I'd say they have about 2 dozen or more? There was just ONE guy working that night and he killed it, excellent service. Just felt bad for him that he was manning the whole store himself. Ended up with an ice cream sandwich - mac nut cookies (great) and dark chocolate ice cream. Well, I asked for dark chocolate, but pretty very sure I got the ghiradelli chocolate instead? Which unfortunately is not what I wanted. It was too sweet for me. But the service was still great and gotta cut him some slack. The ice cream was tasty, but a lot airier than I expected it. Not very dense if that's your thing. But I'd still go back and try something else.

Stop by during our morning walk. Greeted by a very friendly gentleman whom was the owner, let us taste some flavors. I decided on the pandas coconut and strawberry delight while my friend had vanilla and ube. We sat down and enjoyed, both were satisfying and delicious. Ambiance was very pleasant. Nice to have such a nice ice cream shop in the neighborhood. Come in and support this local neighborhood business, a great place and we will be back to try more flavors.

If you're craving ice cream, this is the spot to go to. They have a bunch of different flavors that you can sample before choosing. The ice cream itself has a really good, consistent flavor and even has a bit of stretch to it. They also give you a really big scoop for the price, which makes it totally worth it--especially on a hot day. Great and friendly service

Small ice cream. Waffle extra. I only ate half. Too sticky (stabilizers) for my liking.

I was excited for the arrival of this ice cream shop, as I truly love and prioritize the homemade stuff. For me, it wasn't a win though. Service was nice and the shop is cute. I appreciate that they aren't packing it full of dyes and the serving sizes are generous. The flavors were all pretty subtle though - you had to concentrate to find the chocolate in the chocolate. But my primary issue is I just don't like sticky ice cream. I know this is from using a too high ratio of stabilizers and I imagine it's hard to keep temperatures cold in Hawai'i, but that chewiness just ruins it for me. Between our party, we tried chocolate, vanilla, coffee, salted caramel, almond joy, pineapple, rocky road, and mint chocolate. And none really wowed me. I ordered a small split of the coffee and almond joy as the best of the tastes, but ended up throwing half out. If they tweaked the recipe and pulled back the stabilizers while upping the flavors, I'd give it another go, but otherwise Wings is still my go to for ice cream on Oahu.

My second visit to Castaways and I was impressed. I spoke with one of the owners and he maintained that they use all natural ingredients - no dyes or preservatives. Ube Coconut was a vibrant purple and vibing with flavor. So was the Holiday Pumpkin Pie...very festive. But both...weren't too sweet. Hours are now 200p till 1000p weekdays though on Fridays, they close at midnight. Weekends they open at 12 noon; closing at 1000p on Sundays and midnights on Saturdays.

PARKING: Street options, Isenberg is probably the best to search on. SERVICE: 10/10, they encourage sampling, and are so proud of their homemade products AMBIANCE: very casual, good for catching up, a casual date (they have board games) FLAVORS: they rotate frequently, so check them out for their latest creations

Matcha Ice Cream + Lychee Mochi Ice Cream
    Rene D.

Lychee. mochi. Ice cream. Are you kidding me??? That's so perfect. The mochi was not hard at all (literally as fresh as can be like you get from the store) and the lychee flavor was delicate and just a bit tart. The matcha ice cream was delicious as well, a great contrast to the fruity lychee. Definitely an earthy, strong flavor. Employees were friendly and provided samples when I couldn't pick between a couple flavors. Parking might be difficult but you can always just go to longs, get a snack there, then go grab some ice cream afterwards (lmk if that isn't allowed). I love this place and I hope you do too!

Happy National Ice Cream Month/Day! Conversation with my son while I drove past Castaways Ice Cream and he mentioned that I would love it there for pandan ice cream, wow.-my son knows me well, haha. I finally had a chance to check out Castaways Ice Cream on a Friyay, date night with my other half. It is so close by for me, that we could even walk it during our future date nights. Parking would be the junk part here but there are lots of street parking available . It was a busy Friday night, non-stop customers which is a great thing, I met owner, Robert/ Dr. Robert, he was very friendly and I got to chat with him a bit but couldn't hear about the meaning behind his business name "Castaways", which I thought was a franchise but not, he is a also a Physician and moved here from Texas with his family. Castaways Ice Cream is made in Hawaii specializes in premium ice cream made fresh in shop and they prioritize in quality over quantity. Observing the decor at Castaway, I like how they have the # of followers they have on social media, ( Facebook & Instagram) displayed near the entrance, the piano which has a note to respect it and only play if you truly know how to play the piano, I want to test my big kids' piano skills, one day to see if they still remembered from taking piano lessons. ( I can't wait to visit for my son/daughter to go on the piano, hehe) & now back to the ice cream, I sampled a few flavors and sad news that pandan wasn't available, more reason to visit! It was hard to decide what flavors to select, but finally ended up with scoop of banana oreo (unique flavor) and coffee & a waffle cone. The verdict: nice and creamy but it was a little on the sweeter side. I hope in the future they will have water cups/provided, although bottled water is for sale. The waffle cone was fresh not stale, I enjoyed it breaking up the pieces and eating with the ice cream. Note, this place does get loud from all the noise coming from everyone talking and enjoying their ice cream. Great addition & spot to the Moilili neighborhood, congrats and welcome Castaways Ice Cream, support local and come by for a scoop, or 2 or 3!! I can't wait to try pandan and other flavors!

Another great experience at Castaways! I genuinely love their ice creams so much -- so creamy and rich. The service provided is also always excellent. I feel comfortable asking to sample different flavors and the girls are always so friendly and nice! They deserve good tips! This will be my go-to ice cream place. I'm willing to go out of my way to come here every time I'm craving ice cream :)

It's the kind of spot you're most likely to discover while wandering in or out of Ginza Bairin, following a luxurious tonkatsu meal craving something cold and refreshing. The setup is refreshingly no-frills: medium styrofoam cups, flavors handwritten in Sharpie, and two separate freezers dividing ice cream and sorbet. The texture runs on the firmer side, which actually works in its favor -- your scoop holds up beautifully in the island heat and doesn't melt into a puddle five minutes later. Given the generous portions, you probably won't be refreezing leftovers anyway. The tropical fruit sorbets are the clear stars, made with fresh fruit and bursting with natural flavor. Mango, lychee, and guava taste vibrant and authentic -- bright, fragrant, and not overly sweet due to the natural acidity from using real fruit. Beyond the classics, there are some fun and unexpected options like corn cheese, durian, and avocado for the more adventurous palate. The standout for me, though, was the Kona coffee ice cream. It avoids the common trap of being cloyingly sweet and instead leans into a rich, dark, nutty undertone with an intense coffee essence that lingers in the best way. It feels grown-up and balanced -- deeply satisfying without overpowering. Whether you're looking for the perfect palate cleanser after tonkatsu or just want a cold treat while strolling through Waikiki, Henry's Place delivers simple, memorable scoops that taste like they're made with care.
