I assumed this guy was the owner but was extremely friendly and inviting. Was immediately willing to introduce what niu is all about and the flavors they had. We got the Ube and niu combo and the matcha and toasted niu combo soft serve on cones. This is hands down some of the best ice cream I've ever had. It's a small little shop and has limited parking. But worth the drive and wait (for stalls)
Finally got to try Niu's soft serve ice cream today! Available flavors were niu (coconut), ube, lilikoʻi , and toasted niu. After asking the patient and friendly counter staff about flavors, she graciously offered a sample of the toasted niu. The toasted niu soft serve is a little sweet for me but the flavor is heavenly. Tastes and smells exactly like toasted coconut flakes and I was sold! I decided to add Mac nuts to top my keiki bowl and was pleasantly surprised to see they were toasted too (at least I think they were). I got there at approx. 5:45 on a Saturday. A couple of 2-top tables were occupied but otherwise not crowded, although a couple of small groups came right after me. Looks like they're now open daily (compared to when they first opened a few years ago) which was partly a reason for my delay in checking them out. Depending on the time, parking can be a challenge in Old Stadium Mall, where L&L, Kozo Sushi, and Lunar Tea are. During peak meal times, it'd be better to come with someone to run in and order/pick up while the other waits/circles around the lot/block. (The Young Street entrance and exit are one-way and narrow and visibility can be challenging at times.)
Located on King Street with a bunch of other restaurants, Niu Soft Serve is a small but yummy option for sweets. There is a parking lot in the front but parking can fill up. Inside, the space is on the smaller side but there are a few tables to sit. The counter is where you can order and see the menu. Plus, there is a display of some baked goods. We have been before to get the ice cream and hot kulolo (which was so good). This time, we wanted to try a different dessert! We decided to order the warm cookie sundae. We have seen some videos of this, and thought it looked yummy. We ordered and the dessert came out promptly. The people working were quick, which was helpful since there was a line. We were able to snag a table and try the sundae. It was so good! The combination of the soft serve (ube and vanilla), fudge, whipped cream, and cookie were excellent. Definitely will be back to try this again, and maybe get another kulolo and ice cream mix.
Decided to check out this place while I was in the area having lunch and I'm sure glads I did. I ordered the first thing I saw on the menu, their lihing lover with lychee soft serve...Wowser!! That was definitely a treat and and a party in my mouth. Yummmyy!! They were so good, I went back the next day and had dessert first before picking up something for dinner. The staff were kind and helpful and the service was quick! Its a cute little shop, with the sweet aroma of freshly baked cookies, you're bound to get drawn in one way or another!
I discovered Niu Soft Serve at a farmers market many years ago, and I am so glad they have a storefront now with many more options! I will usually get the kulolo sundae, but I opted for something simple this night. I just ordered the bowl with the kinako pretzel flavor. I love the texture of the soft serve here! It seems like the parking lot is always crowded, but I am usually able to find a spot. There are a handful of tables inside the shop, but it can get crowded at night. This is definitely a solid dessert spot, especially for those who are non-dairy.
I didn't even realize this quaint shop existed until I decided on a non-dairy lifestyle six months ago. Luckily, a recommendation from a friend led me to this vegan-friendly establishment. I have GREAT friends who really look out for me!! But, you do NOT have to be non-dairy or vegan to delight in Niu Soft Serve and its vegan soft serve, toppings, and cookies. Niu Soft Serve rotates their flavors every couple of weeks. So far (because I plan to try more), I've tasted the ube/coconut and the roasted grain/toasted niu at the shop. Both were amazing! The texture is wonderful and the flavors are delicate and not overpowering. It's creamy but not 'runny' and not too sweet. Can you say, perfection!? You will after you try it! I prefer the traditional, old-school cone but they have waffle cone and cup options. You can also create your own sundae with their non-dairy toppings including hot kulolo, salted fudge, and niu condensed. Then, add your choice of crunchies or fresh fruit. Yum, right?! Or go ALL OUT and order a cookie sundae made with one of their fresh-baked, vegan cookies. I prefer to get the cookies to go and eat them for breakfast with black coffee. It's hard to get vegan pastries, so this is a great pastry-adjacent option. That is if you can manage to not eat the cookies before breakfast the next day! They are delicious ANY time of day. The texture is flawless (I love a soft cookie). A dash of sea salt complements the sweetness creating a crunchy, savory contrast that will make your taste buds explode. In addition to getting cookies to go, you can also walk out with pints. I feel like I always need one in my freezer in case of emergencies. Seriously, this soft serve will leave you craving so you want to be prepared for any late-night longings. I tried the chocolate flavor in a take-home pint. NO complaints! The location is a little tucked away. I never saw it even though I pass by it daily. But, you'll be glad once you find it. It's located right across Old Stadium Park on King Street in the small complex Diamond Head of Savers. The parking lot is small but we've always managed to find parking. And, street parking is also available on both sides of King Street. Don't let parking deter you from this delicious treat! They have a few small tables, a counter, and a bench inside. There is also a bench outside, too. It's been bustling during our visits, but we've always been able to grab a seat in the cool, cozy shop. Tables turn quickly because people pretty much devour their sweet treats. Service is fast and friendly. If you can't decide on a flavor, they will gladly give you samples. Staff genuinely seem to enjoy their work and their appreciation for their customers shows. With the summer days approaching, I'd highly recommend putting this on your must-try list! Even if you aren't vegan or non-dairy, you won't be disappointed. My husband consumes dairy but says this is one of his favorite cone places. Give Niu Soft Serve a try. You'll likely want to return for more.
The shop is a little small and the parking may be a bit difficult. Luckily, I had a Toyota Prius and we fit very well in a small parking lot lol. The line was out the door but it moved fast. We got there around 7PM? We got the Hot Kulolo w/ Ube flavor. They had four flavors: Hojicha, Vanilla, Ube, and I forgot the other one oops! But it was good, the ice cream was worth it for the size.
Ube coconut swirl with mac nuts was good but not mindblowing. We were already in the area because we went to Alii fish market; otherwise wouldn't go out of the way for it.
We got there for dessert didn't know they close 8:00 pm on Mon, Wed, Thurs. and close at 9:00 pm on Fri, Sat, Sun. We lucked out on parking, I guess because we got there at 7:30 pm and most places were either closed or starting to close. I ordered the plain coconut which was good with a light taste of coconut. My wife had the coconut with Oreo cookie bits and it went really well with the coconut flavor.
I 100000% recommend you come here for a SWEET TREAT. It's the best. I got a swirl of mixed berry and this sweet milk. That was good, although it was a little gritty because of the fresh berries. HOWEVER, if you get the UBE flavor. It's OUT OF THIS WORLD. Super creamy, it doesn't taste like an artificial flavor, and not too sweet. Pair the ube with Mac nuts and it's the perfect combo. I'll be coming back again, it does get a little busy at night, but it's totally worth it.
This place is awesome. The ice cream is so good. Theres a lot of options to add one. The calamansi slushie looked amazing, so we got a small sample. I will def be coming back just for that. The hot kulolo fudge is incredible. It truly is delicious. You can go wrong with anything here. The restaurant is very clean and nice too. Theres service was top notch. I didn't feel rushed when trying to decide between all options.
I went twice this week to introduce family members to Niu and they all loved it! Both times I tried different things than I normally get like the kalamansi slush with niu soft serve and the cookies and peanut butta sundae. Both were great though I'd recommend the slush more for the day time or when it is hot as it is easy to get a brain freeze haha. They are very popular now since my first review years ago so you may have to wait a few minutes for them to make your order but it is worth the wait. The workers work hard to keep up. The niu (coconut) and ube are standard flavors while two others change every 2 weeks to keep things interesting. The only tough thing is parking with all the other restaurants but I've often found street parking as a backup.
I just want to say that their cookies are some of the best I have had, but that for some reason it tastes even better with their soft serve.. I don't know why but trust me... My friend got that cookie sundae combo and after sampling hers I wanted to eat the whole thing (oops) My go-to is the Hot Kulolo Sundae. I love it so much. It has warm Kulolo on the bottom and the cold ice cream on top. I recommend the ube. Service was pleasant and fast and they had some dine-in tables indoors. It got kinda crowded though so keep that in mind. Such a gem my friends and I say this is one of our all-time favorite places for ice cream and for a good reason it really is that good.

I stopped by Niu Soft Serve with my family on a Saturday afternoon. There were four soft serve flavors to choose from on the menu: chocolate, ube, coconut, and toasted coconut. I ordered a shake and my boys got a chocolate and ice soft serve. The keiki cup was larger than expected, so they both didn't finish it and should have shared one cup. There are a few tables as well as a counter to sit down to enjoy your cool refreshing soft serve! Happy Eating! read more
My go to spot. Everything I've tried has always been good. Came here today to try the Slushie- mix with Kalamansi slushie and Thai tea slushie with niu (coconut) soft serve. Total: ~$8 This is everything I hoped. The kalamansi was sweet and tart. The Thai tea was calm and creamy. It was the perfect compliment to each other. The niu soft serve balance the flavors out. read more

Came right at opening and there were three others in the store. The worker worked quickly to ensure orders were completed and was still setting up and getting things organized for the day. I ordered the hot kulolo sundae with half ube and half coconut soft serve. It was so delicious. The hot kulolo paired so well with the cold soft serve. I inhaled it and it was gone so quickly. Will definitely be back for more! Parking: Small lot in front read more
Coconut based vegan soft serve? Count me in! I came here on a Saturday evening after dinner for a sweet treat. I got the ube soft serve with cookies and peanut butter topping. It was absolutely delicious. It was a little busy when I got there, but the line moved steadily. When I got my soft serve, it wasn't difficult for me to find a seat inside to enjoy my treat. I'll definitely come back when I'm in the area! read more
Drove to shopping center with Kozo Sushi and found a new soft serve shop. When you walk in, the entire shop smelled like cookies and the air conditioner is on full blast. It opens up to a slight slope in the door to the waiting area. There's are 5 patio table sets and a bench right next to their pick up area. It is dairy-free, plant-based soft-serve ice cream. There are 4 flavors of soft serve: mixed berry, ube, niu coconut , and sweet cream. They offer samples and I suggest you try it before you order. They offer sundaes, milkshakes malts, 4 sizes and toppings Ala carte, and drinks, cookies and pies/slices. Service was straightforward and we waited on the bench looking at the fresh baked cookies in the drying rack. I ordered the strawberry yuzu lemonade for my husband, a Keiki cup with mixed berry and sweet cream swirl, and a MOCHA PEANUT BUTTA milkshake. The yuzu lemonade was filled to the top and came out first. It was a bit longer for my milkshake, maybe 10 minutes. And then my son's soft serve came out last. Tbh I didn't really like the coconut and the mixed berry. It was the fake coconut taste that doesn't leave the mouth, and the mixed berry was like a really grainy watery açaí or blueberry. I wanted a milk shake that was easy to drink on the go but ALL the milk shake flavors were with the niu coconut base. I ordered the MOCHA PEANUT BUTTA asked for a substitution at the register to have sweet cream instead. I even said I don't like the coconut. When it came out I do not think they substituted it. Every sip has the coconut aftertaste- it is not masked by the coffee, cocoa, or the peanut butter. I got about half way but ended up throwing it out because I was disappointed with it. Service was meh if they didn't substitute it. read more

This was my first time at Niu Soft Serve, although I've followed them on Instagram for some time and I had wanted to try the hot kulolo sundae for a while. When I entered today, I actually accidentally asked about a product from a different soft serve place I also follow on Instagram--I had gotten mixed up and asked about the other place's product here. Oops. Sorry about that, guys. Once I got situated, I tried the hot kulolo sundae with roasted grain soft serve and it was very good. The roasted grain is a very soft flavor, not overly harsh at all and it worked nicely against the hot, sweet kulolo. The mac nut crumbles on top added a nice texture and crunch. My husband got the "cookies and peanut butta" sundae with toasted niu soft serve. I got to have a little bite and it was good as well. There's a lot going on in that flavor combination but he said he liked it a lot. There's plenty of crunch, texture combos with the soft serve and the pretzels/cookies, etc. Four stars instead of five because the person who was serving me and rang me up was not very friendly. They didn't really answer questions I had and didn't smile at me at all. For example, I asked about the difference between the toasted niu and the niu soft serve, and they said "They're both coconut." I further asked, "but one is toasted coconut?" "Yes." Getting brief, clipped answers like that comes across as cold and disinterested in explaining the product or encouraging people to learn more about it--I mean, I've never been to this place before so I have no clue about the products other than what I'd seen on Insta! Maybe I offended this person by accidentally asking about a product that another company on island sells; maybe they were having a bad day. But I didn't leave feeling particularly welcomed by them, and my husband even mentioned, unprompted, that he felt like that employee seemed to be disinterested in helping us. I will say the male employee that was in there at the same time was helpful, kind, and cheerful, which helped balance my experience out. I believe that was 'Aiku'e, the business owner, and he helped turn the experience around from pretty negative. I would come back again and give Niu another try but in looking back through previous reviews for this company, it seems I'm not the only one who has experienced a worker with no aloha, not very friendly ... so I have a feeling it's maybe the luck of the draw who ends up at the counter when you're there. I live pretty close by and actually within biking distance of here, so if I come back again and have a good experience the second time, I'm willing to write the first experience off as a bad day. The soft serve itself was delicious; I'd just love a positive experience that involved learning more about the menu options and a friendlier worker providing my food next time as well. read more
Vegan, delicious, colorful. You can't ask for much more I have been here twice and really enjoyed it both times. First time I got the li hing slushy, delicious. Yesterday I got the pandan/salted vanilla pretzel swirl and my daughter got ube. Make sure you know going in that it is vegan and made with a coconut base so if you don't like coconut you may not be a huge fan, but I love coconut and mixed with ube and pandan it's 10/10. I appreciate they have the keiki size because that's more than enough when you want just a little treat. My sister also tried their new cookie selection, we weren't hungry enough for their new cookie sundae but the miso caramel cookie was perfection! We did mix a few bites with the soft serve and it was Parking can be a bit limited when busy but I always find a spot, worst case theres almost always a spot nearby on King st. There's about 6 tables inside, best not to need to use the bathroom while here because it's outside and not great, and out of service on the day we went. The only downside. There's a freezer with several take home options. read more

Wow--another amazing night at Niu Soft Serve. Dairy-free and gluten-free ice cream that actually tastes this good? You wouldn't have thought you'd ever be eating ice cream without your beloved dairy... and yet, here you are. Okay--real talk. If you're lactose intolerant or gluten-free, this place is kind of a dream. There are so many options, and not in a "sad substitute" way--like actually good. The whole vibe? It's giving Papa's Freezeria. If you know, you know. And if you know... you're a real one. You go for something fun--maybe the ube and coconut swirl with salted fudge (yes, the fudge is dairy-free). It makes no difference--it's still rich, still chocolatey, still incredible. Or you build your own moment--ube base, organic peanut butter (tastes just like regular peanut butter), plus pretzels and Oreos on top. It sounds chaotic, but it works. It really works. One thing you notice? The spoons are tiny. Like... tiny tiny. And weirdly, it's kind of perfect. You're forced to slow down, actually enjoy it, not just inhale your dessert in two seconds. Also, somehow it's not aggressively cold--no brain freeze, which feels like a miracle. And the service? So kind. The staff are friendly, patient, and super accommodating--letting you try different flavors if you're unsure and helping you figure out what you'll actually like. It makes the whole experience feel even better. Parking can be a little tricky. You might luck out with street parking, but they do have a shared lot--you may just need to circle a bit if it's busy. Overall, it's such a good post-dinner sweet treat spot. You already know you're coming back. And next time... maybe trying the sammies Yours truly, RARA Reviews read more
I absolutely love all things ube and I saw that this spot was on Yelp's Top 100 Places to Eat in Honolulu so I knew I had to check it out. They offer a variety of soft serve, sundaes, and drinks. I opted for the ube and coconut soft serve swirl and I thought it was the perfect sweet treat to cool myself down on a warm day. The ube flavor in the soft serve was strong which I appreciated. I'm also usually not a fan of coconut flavored things, but actually really enjoyed it here, which surprised me. They offer samples for the soft serve so be sure to take advantage of that if you're unsure on what to order. Service here was quick and friendly. The store itself is bright and welcoming and has a decent amount of spots to sit to enjoy your sweet treat. Overall, I'd recommend this spot! read more
Dare I say this is my favorite ice cream I've had on Oahu... ever?! It's definitely top 3!!! WOW!! Their soft serve is UNREAL. I got the ube and coconut swirl cone and it was sooooo yummy. It tasted so local and unique, flavor wise. I loved the texture of the ice cream... it's creamy yet icy. They also give drip sleeves which is genius. Even the waffle itself was super tasty. My party also ordered an Oreo ube shake and peanut butter mocha shake... both were delicious There's a few tables and chairs inside to enjoy your dessert. The only downside is their location.... Parking was really hard to get at 7pm on a Sunday. In addition, it's hard to find. You can't see it from the street. It is totally worth dealing with parking for how amazing their dessert is. I will for sure come back and tell everyone I know about my new favorite place! read more

It was decent here. I think I built it up too much in my head. Not bad at all. Small parking lot. Small store actually. The staff is just kind of meh. Not super friendly but not rude. Not really helpful in the sense that I think they assume you know how to order... but they dont explain a lot about their menu. I always feel a lot of pressure bc we roll in as a party of six with 4 kids and theres not a lot of space when people come in behind you. I feel like I get drawn to these places bc of IG but then I dont see whats advertised on their menu. It tastes good though. read more

Thought I would stop by since this place had a ton of reviews and I'm glad I did! Absolutely delicious! The parking area is quite small and very limited, so that can be tough. I ordered a strawberry soft serve and added my toppings. Highly recommend this place and definitely going back! read more

Actually found out about this place through Amanda and Felix eats. Glad I caught this on YouTube. Love that it's dairy free and they have lots of local flavors. We actually visited twice this week because it's. That good. Very small inside with only a few tables. read more
Great little vegan ice cream spot. Don't be put off by the fact that it's vegan, because this place is a gem, and proves that you don't need dairy to make delicious soft serve. They serve four flavors; two (ube and coconut) are always available, and the other two change every two weeks. The flavors are unique and always delicious--I order the pandan malt flavor whenever it's available. They also have cookies, pies, and some creative sundaes on the menu, or you can make your own. Pints of soft serve are available for sale in a small freezer. There are several tables inside, and there is some free parking (20 min max) in the lot. read more
For a vegan soft serve spot, I gotta say I was thoroughly impressed. I'm not vegan by any means, however I know that Niu will be one of my go-to's from now on. The soft serve is delicious & the hot kulolo was sooo good & unique! The man working was super friendly & got our orders out super quick. The store itself is kind of small, but there are a few tables inside to sit & enjoy your dessert. Will definitely be back again soon! read more
Decided to check this place out. Was thinking about getting a sundae but didn't want to eat at the store and thought to messy to drive with so I ordered a malted shake (Mocha Peanut Butta) for $9.50. Service - not sure if they liked working there as order taker didn't smile or welcome customers. 3 stars Taste - good. 5 stars Price - expensive. 3 stars Then I thought more about what goes into why the price seems expensive for around 12 oz of shake (see photo about size of a soda can). Owner(s) has to pay rent/insurance of a store space vs small food truck, State of Hawaii mandated increase minimum wage, raw materials to Hawaii cost more, and they have to make a little profit. So rating is 3 stars if I have to pay for the shake as I can't afford to visit often. 4-5 stars if someone else treats me there. read more

I went around 6pm thinking it would be busy but it wasn't. There were people dining in but the service was fast pasted with kind employees being patient while I take my time wondering what I felt like eating. Went with the ube cookies and cream shake and you could definitely taste the Ube. Would definitely come again especially on a hot day. read more

Like many others have said, this is the perfect way to end a meal. Being first timers, it took a few bites/licks to get used to the flavor. But after that, it was so addicting. The cookie was yummy also. I must go back soon to try the other menu items! read more
Visited last month for the first time and my TIP would be to get a combination of flavors! I got Niu (Coconut) and Ube with Hot Kulolo! Absolutely loved that it is Non-Dairy and my next visit I will try more toppings. Very delicious and I will be back!! Located at 2320 South King St. Honolulu, HI 96826 - In Old Stadium Mall - By L&L Hawaiian BBQ and Kozo Sushi. The cool thing about this shopping center are the options for food and entertainment (Favorite combo is Food+ Clawsters + Niu) read more
