Walking into an ice cream spot in Waikiki, you already know you're about to get financially disrespected. I was fully prepared to pay "ocean view tax" for a single scoop. Somehow, it ended up being the same price, if not cheaper, than the Baskin-Robbins by my house. That alone threw me off. Then the ice cream showed up... and now I'm suspicious for a different reason. Flavor was a straight 10 out of 10. Not "it's hot so I'll take anything cold" good, actually good. Like someone back there cares about your happiness. Portion size? Out of control. These guys are not measuring anything. It felt personal. Like they saw me walk in and said "yeah, give this guy the full send." And listen, I've never once in my life said "that's too much fudge." That's not a sentence I use. But they pushed me to the edge. Sundae came out looking like it was melting under pressure. Fudge dripping down the sides, chocolate overflowing like it had somewhere to be. I couldn't even take a picture because it was already escaping. One wrong move and I'm wearing it. The line outside can be intimidating but the staff does a great job getting it to move along despite the many times they have to stop serving due to flavor test requests. The infamous Lappert's! I was told by at least 3 people who knew we were going to Hawaii and staying at the Hilton that we needed to check out Lappert's for ice cream! Lappert's is located at the Hilton Hawaiian Village Waikiki Beach Resort in Honolulu across the main lobby. My family and I visited Lappert's 3 out of the 4 nights we were there and it definitely lived up to the hype! On the first night, I ordered a scoop of Macadamia Nut ice cream which was so good. I shared the Uncle's Hot Fudge Sundae with my husband on the other 2 nights. My daughter tried the Ooey Gooey Pineapple Cake, Pineapple Sorbet and Banana Fudge and loved all 3 flavors. Not only do they offer some great flavors of ice cream, they also offer in house made waffle cones and bowls, cookies and large pieces of coffee cake and carrot cake. I believe I also saw Affogatos, different espresso drinks, milkshakes and Root Beer Floats on the menu - Chillers and smoothies too! I don't recall seeing seating inside of Lappert's, but being in Hawaii, my family loved grabbing ice cream to go and walking along the beach. We decided to get the Can't decide option because that's an appropriate option when there's so many goid flavors, and its the best deal. 5 half scoops of ice cream in a waffle cone. There was not a line whenever we've stopped by, but there is usually one after dinner hours. Not sure about earlier because I don't pass by earlier in the day. There's a few seats to eat at, but I think its overlooked because you pay on the other side, and most customers are sitting on the bench or wall outside. Instead of canned coffee at ABC stores or Starbucks, we stumbled upon Lappert's Hawaii which sells a variety of desserts but also coffee. I ordered their Caramel Macadamia Nut hu'i hu'I chillers and my other half got their matcha. We also got a regular croissant to go with the drinks. Their ice cream looks inviting, but it was a bit early for that. They have multiple flavors that sounds appetizing, Waimea Canyon, Ooey Gooey Pineapple Cake, and Oreo cookie crunch to name a few. The lines started to pick up after we ordered. Everyone coming down to get their morning coffee. Staff was quick to get orders in and out in a timely manner. The matcha was more on the sweeter side. Enjoyable if you like it sweet. If you prefer to have it more bitter, this may not be for you. The caramel mac nut chiller was pretty good. You can taste both after very sip. Caramel first then the mac nut afterwards. Croissant was warmed up for us. Flakey on the outside and soft on the inside. Nothing spectacular but a good snack to go with the drinks. If you don't mind paying $ 7 for a tiny scoop of ice cream (or $10 for two tiny scoops) then this is the place for you. It's called gourmet ice cream because there are a few selections of unusual flavors but not many of normal ice cream flavors like rocky road, chocolate chip, etc. The banana fudge was good, the macadamia nut really didn't taste like macadamia. My recommendation is go to the Island Market right across the street and get yourself a whole pint of ice cream. Much better value money wise. But don't expect exotic flavors. Every time we stay at the Hilton Hawaiian Village we always make a special trip to try and visit leopards Hawaii. The first time we tried to get ice cream was at night time and there was a super long line. So we went over to the ABC store. The next day we ended up going right before lunch and there wasn't a line they allow you to try their ice cream and I decided to get the Tiki Toffee. My kids each got their own: mint chocolate and Oreo cookie crunch. The tiki toffee was supposed to be chocolate covered toffee in a coffee toffee ice cream with macadamia nuts. But I did not see any chocolate nor was there even a taste of coffee in my ice cream. I was pretty disappointed, considering it tasted like plain vanilla with a little bit of caramel and some toffee. My daughter's mint chocolate chip ice cream was good but a little light on the mint flavor. Service is pretty slow and I understand that it's probably because people want to try a bunch of samples and then one person is taking the order and there's only three people working. But they need to figure out how to move the line quicker because it shouldn't take so long to get your ice cream and they should count for more people coming at night so that the line isn't wrapped around the other stores. read more

It's been years since I wanted to try Lappert's ice cream at the Hilton Hawaiian Village. I don't recall seeing Lapperts anywhere. I wanted to try it way back when I had breakfast at Bali Oceanfront. Recently I dined at Hatsuhana for their breakfast buffet, I thought for sure the ice cream shop would be open at 11 am but to my surprise, it was already opened from 6 am. Many tourists pick up their coffee or pastries in the morning. I was surprised it was quite busy before lunch. I was fascinated with all the delicious looking bake goods and to find out it was made in house. The cookies looked and tasted yummy! The cookies were filled with big pieces of macadamia nuts! It's kind of like Cookie Corner but these chocolate macadamia nut cookies were so delicious! Jackie K. who I shared a cookie with, loves cookies, and she agreed with me too! Even their Lemon bar was really good too! I loved the thick crust and the thick lemon layer! I love lemon bake goods! Too bad they don't validate parking! We didn't stay at the Hilton and so Lappert's is a little hard to find if walking from the main street. You will have to go around the resort building to enter the complex from the back; it's actually easier to walk here from Waikiki beach. There will likely be a line but it moves very quickly. The shop is clean and modern, newer looking than Dave's ice cream next door at the Ilikai. Lappert's has a selection of scoops and our favorite was the chocolate with oreos in it. Genuinely the lousiest and most deplorable staff I have ever encountered, and by far the worst customer experience I've had in years. While waiting in the exuberant line of 25+ min, there was an employee might have gotten confused with what they signed up for; that is actually working. For the entirety of that wait, they did no single thing. No talking to customers, no helping with the line, maybe she too was enjoying the ambiance... That alone is honestly expected from low-functioning employees, and wouldn't cause a stir. However this lagging individual loitering behind the counter did contribute two things, that was bringing a snarky attitude to the people waiting and inviting her friends to cut the 25+ minute line. Because they were aimlessly standing behind the counter, myself and other potential patrons asked if we were even in line. Which was simply shrugged off by this outstanding mind. Once again, a simpleton with an attitude is nothing new - but the situation changed when she gained a burst of responsibility and finally chose to help the customers who happen to know her. Now I could be mistaken, but at this point, 20 minutes in, the most interesting thing to this employee was the wooden countertops. Now these random people, who have not lined up in the 25 minute line, are being called over directly to the counter to start ordering. Who knows what was going on in their mind. The ice cream was ice cream, but not worth the time, money and experience. I estimated with a line out the door and around the corner, the 2 scoops served in 30 min, this employee made Lapperts about negative $5. read more

Their specialty lattes come with all of the traditional Hawaiian flavors such as macadamia nut or coconut, their lattes are a good start to anyone's day. Pair it with the sticky bun or cinnamon roll and you won't regret it. The service there is quick and welcoming, the workers are there to guide you in the right direction of choice if you're feeling indecisive. There isn't any seating inside but thankfully you can take your coffee or ice cream to the beach, the city, or at one of the hotels many seating areas.
