For those not familiar, don't expect fresh fruit flavors. The strawberry tasted like strawberry soda mixed with vanilla ice cream. The honeydew tasted like a Melona bar. The large included a rolled cookie which was a nice surprise. The buttered popcorn was a bit chewy, not light, fluffy & crunchy. (-0.5*} The service was friendly & helpful. No 3% credit card fee. In our office, food is often discussed where we share information with each other. Samurai was brought up by my colleague who sits in front of me and was going to head over. Another colleague and I jumped at the opportunity to tag along on a Friday early afternoon. Located down Umi Street not too far from neighboring New City Nissan on N King Street, Samurai moved to their current location in 1995 serving Maui style sherbet, popcorn and other local snacks. They also expanded to Samurai Snacks Aiea for an impressive 20+ years before closing its doors in May 2023. We arrived shortly after lunch time where we pondered at the menu wondering what to get. It's not fancy here at Samurai - - the storefront is basic and nothing fancy with a few seats patrons can sit on if they decide to eat their treats on premise. Morale has been low at the office so I decided to get some convenient prepackaged 4oz assorted Samurai cups to cheer up the staff. My colleagues also picked up some bags of buttered popcorn with mochi crunch and furikake for an informal office party to welcome the much needed weekend. Because we were already there, we also got some soft serve cups to cool down before heading back to the office. My colleagues had the classic strawberry and blue vanilla swirl and I selected the mango. My colleagues enjoyed their selection but the mango didn't live up to my expectations. The color was vibrant and enticing but sadly the mango flavor did not come through. Each cup came with a sugar roll cookie that was delicious. After our cold treat we headed back to the office with our surprise for our colleagues where it was a big hit. There were many happy faces standing in line grabbing some popcorn and a 4-oz cup of Samurai. Overall, a much better experience with Samurai that's deserving of an update with higher marks. It has been noted in my books to stick to flavors I'm already aware of and avoid trying new ones for that possible disappointment that often happens to me. read more

Cheap guri guri type of ice cream. I've been here many times, but this was my 1st time trying this in almost 4yrs since returning for a visit. I always order the strawberry and blue vanilla combo. The small size is actually huge. The staff are fast and friendly. They only have a 2 stall parking lot and the rest are street parking. There is a bench for you to sit on to enjoy your desserts. They closed their other location in Aiea so this one is left. read more

When visiting I stumbled upon this place. It was kind of funny, the local uber drivers there and back, asked me how I found this place, thank god for Yelp! This is just a small storefront with 2 seats outside, and you have to ring a ring doorbell for service. However, the ice cream was absolutely delicious, and they gave us a cookie for every ice cream too, the cookie was even better than the ice cream, quite impressive! Again, this is a smaller buisness, but I'd rather try local shops than big corporate places if I can, and this is one of those place you can do the same thing! Highly recommend, it is down a street with manufacturing and looks out of place, but absolutely worth the experience! read more

We came and purchased a blue vanilla and strawberry swirl float with Coke and condensed milk ($4 + $0.75 for the condensed milk). It only comes in one size (16 oz.). They give you the whole can of Coke, so you can just keep adding to the soft serve. We also got a bag of fresh buttered popcorn with extra butter, furikake and arare $5.75. Both items were good. I prefer the Coke float. It hit the spot on a hot day. The popcorn needed more butter and furikake. read more

What a cool place... The amount of time spent at New City Nissan you think I'd be here more often lol! Hidden down Umi Street which is right beside the dealership just past the storage place is this sweet place and yes parking is impossible in this area but they do have two stalls right beside the shop. Luckily I did manage to grab a stall and check out what they have to offer today as the flavors are posted clearly and ordering is easy first you choose a flavor, then the style (soft serve, shake, float or parfait) and third any toppings which all are additional. It was a Strawberry float and they have Coke or Sprite as the soda so it was Sprite and what they do is fill the cup with the soft serve and top it with soda and was surprised they gave me the rest of the can...no straw...no spoon!? Unlike before no seating as well so I stood there looking around with a cup and a soda can...hmmm! I didn't make the greatest choice it was okay and should've kept it simple and sadly it all went to waste and just a note if you're unsure you can sample any flavor which I encourage you to do so but I did grab a couple bags of popcorn in the fun color that's representing the Super Bowl teams (SF/KC) lol! Tucked away on Umi Street, this place is a gem! The sorbet is scrumptious! The gigantic Oreo cookie made for an extra special treat. My favorite is the lihing sorbet topped with extra lihing powder. I am salivating as I write this review. There are daily flavors, as well as additional pint size flavors and various sorbet in the refrigerator/freezer in front to choose from. After I heard the Samurai in Aiea closed down, I was determined to make it to the one remaining location open on the island, by Dillingham. I made a special trip out here with my son to get some of their treats. Parking is only two stalls, or some on the street, if you're lucky. The place is locked down, literally, so you have to press a buzzer. There were security cameras all around, so we stood around a few minutes waving at the camera and trying to smile and not look like crazy people. There were also locks on the outdoor freezers, and good for them, because there's a lot of thieves and scary people just helping themselves to whatever they can nowdays! I wish I wrote this review sooner because I don't remember how much we paid for our Hawaiian Frost in cups. I believe it may have been $4 each. Son got the Mint Chocolate and I got the Strawberry Vanilla. Both our frosties had giant oreo cookies on them as garnish...totally loved it!!! I grew up with these flavors and I wanted my son to try them too. I was alarmed that one of the stores permanently closed down so I wanted to make a trip out here to enjoy their treats and to support their business. Took my husband and kids here on a hot Saturday. To my surprise, my husband has never never been here before and he's lived in Kalihi for yearssss! Anyway, we got here and there were no customers so we were stoked that we didn't have to wait in a line. We had to ring the bell for service because there it looked like they were closer. Haven't been in forever but it was such a hot day after my daughter's graduation ceremony that we decided to come by over here since Ubae's soft serve machine is always broken . I haven't been here in ages so I was so surprised that there was parking available right in the driveway! I remember coming here back in the day and there wasn't even street parking available. Cashier wasn't around when we first approached the store, we rang the buzzer and someone came out pretty quickly. I love samurai, I would rather have this over ice cream it is so good! There was a customer there looking at the menu but then I think she thought it was closed so she just left. We've been coming here for years any time we're on vacation visiting family. Prices are great and you get a lot for what you pay. Parking can be tricky, although they do have a few stalls here. Lemme just say three words: PANDAN and UBE. If you're lucky to get your hands on these flavors (since they rotate through flavors), you have to try it. I phoned on Kuhio Day, and just the sweetest young woman answered and was so smart and helpful, so I swung by and bought a twist even though they didn't have the flavor I was craving. The twist I chose was yuzu and orange. I don't think I'd order it again because I felt that even though it had just the right amount of sweet, there was much yuzu or orange flavor. I loved the crispy complimentary oreo wafer on top, tho! The small cup lasted through traffic all the way back to my home near Kaimuki! Big mahalos to the staff! It was a difficult week but all of that changed after a friendly gesture from one of the staff who recommended their new chili dog and let me sample the li hing mui sorbet. Located in Kalihi, there is an Aiea store, Samurai has a colorful storefront in an industrial/commercial/residential area. Parking can be an issue as street parking on Umi St. is limited. They have a bench in front of a windowed counter top. Soft serve cups and shakes are sold along with hot dogs, Furikake popcorn and other snacks. They have flavors of the day and on this occasion, I chose Blue Vanilla (classic) over Vanilla Creme as well as a few others. Picked up a couple of pints of their Strawberry and Blue Vanilla. Been coming to Samurai since they first opened up a few years back, and I must say their cold desserts is something that everyone should try, specially if your in the city of KALIHI (Yay Yay) *Ice cube voice. Hawaiian Frost soft serve ICE CREAM is what mostly everyone come's here for, and they have their daily Normal flavors and I believe somedays they have premium flavors etc. Priced vary between regular flavors and premium flavors. Also other items they have here is their popcorn. Parking : parking could be a challenge here specially if it's busy, they do have like a private lot but only could fit 2/3 cars at the most. Another option is street parking but if that too could be a challenge. Sitting area / They have about 3 long benches outside of the store where you could enjoy your hawaiian frost soft serve ice cream. I seen on their INSTAGRAM page that they promote "HAPPY HOUR" But it was only for a certain time in the month of May. I seen that it was 50% their hawaiian frost soft serve menu "wowwwww" wish they would do this at-least once a week in a every month. That would be awesome. Met up with a friend here since she said it's good. It's definitely in the middle of nowhere in an industrial area if you're not a local. They have their own parking, so that's good. Luckily for us, we had a scooter so we could park anywhere. I was super excited about this place, since I usually get shave ice in Hawaii. Only 3 flavors - the typical strawberry and blue vanilla, and banana. The premium flavor was chocolate malt. My boyfriend got the banana since he loves banana flavored anything and I got what was most popular - strawberry blue vanilla swirl. The banana had some flavor, but not what we expected. My boyfriend only liked his more only after he tasted mine. I had high hopes for mine since almost everyone gets it, but it was quite chalky. I couldn't really taste the strawberry, the vanilla was overpowering, IMO. Then it just started to melt and I was drinking this purple milk, which actually tasted better than it was frozen.
