I did have an upset moment because my gps said I would get to Asato's at 1:58 so mentally I decided "I guess I didn't need it". But... lucky for me, traffic was in my favor and there was no delays, no red lights, and a parking space right out front so I got out of the car at precisely 1:55! Whew, I checked in and ran inside, excited that I made it. Also, super happy they were not sold out. You know I also cannot just get 1 pint. I took home 2 Pumpkin Custard, a Strawberry and candied ginger (which i got for mom so she doesnt get mad that I restocked the freezer). I did a purse grab and go so fast I did not notice the duchess status until going back to the car! So woohoo! A handful of colleagues talk about the Spumoni ice cream you get from a popular US chain family restaurant. You see pistachio, cherry and chocolate ice cream but that doesn't roll with me. I've mentioned to them the Spumoni from La Gelateria but sadly no one seems to know about this place. La Gelateria started in 1981 making gelato and sorbetto. They generally are wholesale catering to restaurants and also do retail with online ordering. Their store appears to be small as there's a dedicated section for walk in purchase for grab and go. As morale has been low in the office, I decided to cheer up the mood by using my lunch break hour to grab several pints of gelato for home and picked up individual cups for my colleagues. I think the staff was thrown off by my asking of 20 Spumoni cups but they didn't have that many available so I took all 16 and added on 5 of their seasonal pumpkin and chocolate chip gelato. The staff re-rung my purchase of what I ordered via their online portal. I used the waiting time to grab spoons. After my purchase was all settled, I hopped back into my car and headed back to the office. Upon arrival badk to the office I placed my 4 pints in the freezer to take home later and then kmmediately distributed the individual cups to my colleagues. They were delightfully surprised and most of them took up on my offer. THE VERDICT: Clearly my colleagues preferred La Gelateria's Spumoni over what they've been given at the other restaurant. They immediately noticed the candied citrus bits and some dark chocolate chips. As staff were given the choice of flavor, some opted for the pumpkin chocolate chip and also got back good feedback. On average I order from La Gelateria about 1-2 a year to satisfy my Spumoni fix. I also enjoy other flavor offerings and their seasonal holiday flavors.
