One of my go-to spots for a refreshing drink! My favorites consist of the taro purple rice yogurt & honeydew ice blended with lychee jelly. Workers are always friendly & it's super cute inside. The only downside is it's usually pretty warm inside of the shop. Better for grab and go than to sit inside, but totally worth it regardless.
Cow cows always hits the spot. I love that they have a wide variety of drinks, but my favorite recently has been the yogurt rice drinks. I decided to try the kiwi this day. The kiwi flavor with the slight tartness of the yogurt made for a refreshing drink. I also love the chunks of purple rice that give it good texture. I wish their store had trash cans inside. There's also not a lot of seating inside, but we are usually able to find a table.
Cowcow's yogurt drink with purple rice is by far my favorite I have tried so far compared to other places!! The staff there are always so nice and they are efficient with getting our order right and done quickly. They also have a cool stamp card system with cute prizes. Whenever I am in Kaimuki this is a must!
Cowcow's Tea in Kaimuki is well known for their cute pink themed interior, plushies, and their purple rice yogurt drinks. I ordered their strawberry guava purple rice yogurt drink and I felt a bit disappointed that I didn't taste much of the guava. However, their purple rice yogurt drinks are one of the best on the island, and I always try to get one whenever I am in the area. Overall, highly recommend! Great place to go for a refreshing and delicious boba treat.
Cute drinks, fun flavors, and definitely some unique options you won't find at most boba shops. That said, the online ordering system needs work. Right after placing our order, it showed as "ready," which clearly wasn't accurate - we ended up waiting about 15-20 minutes for 5 drinks. As for the drinks, it was a mixed experience. Most were decent, but the Lihing Mui Lemon Tea was a hard NO. It had a really metallic taste and didn't resemble lihing at all - definitely a waste of money. The popular Taro Rice Yogurt was also a miss for us. My wife ended up tossing it, which says a lot. Even at 100% sweetness, it wasn't what she expected - the texture from the rice was a bit off-putting, and overall it tasted pretty bland. The boba carried most of the flavor. It might just be one of those "not for everyone" drinks. I told her she's not Asian enough for that one lol! On the flip side, I ordered the Strawberry Rice Yogurt (50% sweet), and that one was spot on. I actually liked the purple rice (it resembles mochi, for sure) - but I'm not a huge boba connoisseur - honestly, I usually prefer just eating my money haha! Son got the Cheesy Strawberry (50% sweet) which I thought was fun and definitely a pretty drink. He loved it. Daughter's bf got the Ovaltine Malted Boba which I'm sure was delicious and chocolatey - there was even Cocoa Krispies inside (or Cocoa Pebbles? Idk. Same smell)! One more thing - parking is rough. It's mostly street parking, and a lot of the meters are broken, so park at your own risk until that gets sorted out. Total for 5 drinks came out to $37, which feels pretty average for Honolulu.
Tonight wanted something refreshing so my wife said she wanted Cowcow's. Normally she orders their Blueberry or strawberry rice yogurt . The last time I was here i seen a customer order this drink called Ovaltine, If your old like me you'll know Ovaltine is a powder chocolate that you mix it in your milk and it's delicious. Over here at Cowcow's they blend it and this drink has some chocolate bits in it and it's my go to drink when I'm here . Service is always friendly. Support local
I love the taro rice yogurt drink!! So refreshing, and I love the texture of the rice. There is limited space inside, so it can get a little crowded. Parking is also sometimes difficult, so plan accordingly. The auntie who helped me was so sweet!
I was having trouble with the online ordering system and when I called they were very nice. I was able to give them my order over the phone and I was greeted with a smile when I arrived. I tried the Taro Purple Rice Yogurt Drink with boba for the first time and was impressed! 75% sweet was perfect and the textures of the rice and boba went well together. My brother tried the Azuki Bean milk tea which he happily wolfed down. I recommend Cowcow's Tea to anyone who likes boba!
Family went here back in 2023. It was so good that we went a couple of times. We were back in Oahu and went to CowCow on day two. It wasn't as good as we remembered, the yogurt seemed a little more liquidity this time, not as much purple rice and smaller. The drink was still good but not as good as before that we would go back more than once in the same trip. The drinks are still good so swing by CowCow at least once for a yogurt drink with chewy purple rice.
So good!! And such a pleasant surprise! I was definitely a little apprehensive that I would like this place because 1) growing up on Oahu it was never known for quality boba both tea and boba balls and 2) now that I've been spoiled by LA's variety and quality boba, how could this Oahu shop possibly compare to LA boba.... HOWEVER, COWCOW DID NOT DISAPPOINT. Absolutely nailed it in both novelty and enjoyable points in addition to menu variety. All 3 flavors of Rose Lychee Yogurt Purple Rice, Strawberry Guava Yogurt Purple Rice, and Lilikoi Yogurt Purple Rice were so well executed and we all really couldn't decide which one was the best & it really just came down to perosnal preference to flavors. Yogurt flavor description - yogurt in the boba tasted like a 25% mix or Yakult and a light complimentary milk. It didn't taste too tart at all, and I was surprised to find that it was just a well balanced slushy milk added to the notes of lilikoi, lychee or guava. Purple rice description - WOW. Better than I expected. The rice was not that sweetened but still imparted a rich starchy somewhat purple rice nutty flavor. The best part was that the texture was a delightful chewy and each grain was dissociated instead of clumped together. This allowed you to slowly sip on your boba with toppings instead of getting hit with a chunk of purple rice. Can I just mention again the texture was one of a kind and so well executed. In my opinion from BEST to LEAST BEST: 1) rose lychee Yogurt Purple Rice - rose and lychee was so well balanced and the rose was very light instead of that strong soapey taste. Bonus points because there was also fresh lychee at the bottom of the drink. Get 75% or 100% sweetness on this because it's very light in flavor if you don't. This nailed more of that tea flavor. 2) strawberry guava Yogurt Purple Rice - there was no fresh fruit at the bottom but the strawberry guava juice was a nice blend. Very straightforward in flavor but delicious nonetheless and did taste a bit more like "fruit juice." 3) lilikoi Yogurt Purple Rice - there was no fresh fruit at the bottom and the lilikoi was yummy for the first sip but drinking the whole thing could get a tiny bit sour. This was more like a lemonade citrus sour as opposed to a tart yogurt sour. It still tasted really good but again came off as more fruit juice than fresh fruit. Would get this again and next time I would get the lychee rose again or get the mango although I feel like I know what mango + yakult would taste like. The strongest advantage of this place was the novelty, which is why I wouldn't get this every month but nice for once in a while. Service - was so slow. Only two workers. There was no one in front of us and the boba still took around 15-20 min to make. TIP - if you order two or more toppings with the waiter and not the kiosk, you can get a free upgrade. Parking - parking is super tough and it's all metered parking with 2 (3 min) loading zones across the street behind the bus stop. Ambiance - is ok. People say it's cute but the quality and execution is lacking. It's pink but the chairs were chipping and wrapped in plastic wrap. The back of the shop where all the plushies were , were closed off. Not a cute date spot.
I've been wanting to come and try this spot for a while. I've tried the purple rice yogurt drinks before when yomie was open in Ala Manoa and even from Teapresso but I know that this place was KNOWN for their ube purple rice yogurt drink(s). Theres a lot of street parking around, so if you'd lucky you can just grab a spot, order, and leave. My partner and I decided to order and sit in to enjoy our drinks. I got the ube purple rice yogurt drink and my partner got the passionfruit tea. Both drinks were incredibly fresh and delicious. The purple rice in my drink had a perfect chew and was just amazing. It is undoubtedly the best purple rice drink I've had compared to any other spots I've been to. The seating area doesn't seem to be on the best state of cleanliness. The seats are wrapped in plastic and semi stained. There were only two tables and a few bar seats facing the window. The overall space within gives a more grab and go than a sit in café vibe. They have a large back area filled with plushies but it is blocked off from the public for some reason. I would definitely recommend coming to Cow Cow's and trying their drinks like their well known purple rice series (especially ube if you like ube).
Got the purple rice yogurt drink and it was super delicious!! The only thing is that it's quite icey, I wish it was a bit creamier than icy. But I enjoyed the tartiness of the yogurt and the rice pieces. It's pretty stuffy/hot inside and tables were dirty with trash/liquid on them.

Always a nice spot to grab a sweet treat a.k.a. a nice and refreshing drink! Mango Rice Yogurt is my all-time favorite, but I also like their fruit teas as well if I like something refreshing. It's perfect for the warm weather. Service is always warm and friendly :) If you're new here, ask for a stamp card. You get 1 stamp for every drink purchased; and you can get a free drink of your choice if you complete 10 stamps on the card. You also have an option to redeem cute merch using the accumulated stamps if you want. Friendly reminder that there's no restroom in store. My friend has a stamp card for this specific spot so he definitely put my expectations up there! Overall really good refreshing drinks. The yogurt rice drinks are definitely the star of the show. I thought the taro might be really taro but I think it's powder, either way still really good. Yummy rice yogurt drink! I love how they have so many different toppings besides the chewy rice. Their boba, coffee and mango jellies are all excellent. Their service has also been friendly and efficient. My fav drink is their mango yogurt with mango jelly and boba, taro yogurt drink with coffee jelly and boba, and their milk tea with toppings. The ambiance is a little lacking. It's not a big space for sitting down and hanging out like a cafe. They also blocked off a room with tables so it seems like they don't encourage people to hang out inside. Most people get it as takeout. Make sure you get a stamp card. You get $5 off after 10 stamps (1 stamp per drink you order). read more
If you have never tried a purple rice yoghurt drink, I recommend visiting Cowcow's Tea. Of the places I've tried in Hawaii, Cowcow's is definitely my favorite and it always satisfies my craving for something light, sweet and refreshing. My go to order is the mango rice yoghurt drink, 25-50% sweet. I have also tried the rose lychee, lilikoi and grapefruit. No matter what I order, their drinks are subtly tart from the yoghurt, yet sweet; the purple rice is cooked perfectly and is addictively chewy; it always includes a generous serving of fresh fruit; and it is very drinkable. I always wipe mine out in 15 minutes and immediately wish I had more. Although, they are known for their rice yoghurt, they also serve milk teas, fruit teas, sparkling drinks, frappes, and cheese foam topping, which sounds weird, but it's actually delicious. Don't want to wait in line? Order ahead using their website. You can also hang out inside at a 1 of their 2-3 tables and take in the pink decor. read more

Came in during my vacation and it's a pretty small shop with about 3-4 tables. I ordered on the kiosk and the drinks came out pretty quick. Jasmine MT w brown sugar jelly 7/10: pretty good but did have more milky flavor than a tea flavor. The brown sugar jelly was a good textural touch to my drink! Lychee rose yogurt w mochi & no rice 8.5/10: I got it 50% sweet which was perfect for my palate. It's a bit tart but mostly a sweet drink. The mochi was so good and I liked the texture in my drink. Wintermelon MT 5/10: not sure why they called this wintermelon bc it tasted nothing like winter melon lol. It just tasted like a regular milk tea? Not sure but I wasn't a fan. Overall not bad, I haven't tried any other boba places in Hawaii but maybe in the future for me to have something to compare to. But it did satisfy my craving for the day! read more

We've been enjoying this place for years!! Might be our favorite establishment in Oahu. The twins who work there are just phenomenal. They're there every day, working their butts off, and always with a smile! The store has such a fun pink and pig vibe, with a great spot for pictures while waiting. Their drinks are so refreshing, the rice is so tasty, and the fruit is really real. Can't recommend this place enough!! read more
I can't believe I've never wrote a review on my favvvvorite place for yogurt smoothies. Whenever I'm in the Kaimuki area, it's a given that I'm coming here. We always get the same thing: Mango Purple Rice Yogurt for me and Strawberry Purple Rice Yogurt for my hubby. I love that the Mango smoothie has mango puree on the bottom. It's so fresh & refreshing! The strawberry one is creamy and comes already mixed together. The yogurt is a bit tangy and the purple rice adds a chewy texture. The store is absolutely ADORABLE! So many cute backdrops. They also offered online ordering as well as a kiosk to order without having to wait in line. Overall, we absolutely love this place! There's no place else you can get this unique purple rice yogurt smoothie! read more

Recently went back to try their strawberry yogurt flavor and it definitely didn't disappoint! Staff is always super friendly and helpful. It's a little difficult to get to without a car but definitely recommend stopping by if you're in the area. Strawberry and Mango are definitely both top contenders for me! read more

Cowcow's Tea is always packed, and for good reason! My go-to is the Ovaltine Melted Boba Drink. I always get it 50% sweet because trust me, the full 100% is sugar shock central lol They're super famous for the Mango Yogurt Drink but I haven't tried it yet... I'm loyal to my Ovaltine anyways:D Even with the long lines, the drinks come out pretty fast so props to their team. ***But fair warning: no public restroom! If you're coming after dinner, I highly recommend a bathroom pit stop beforehand unless you want to go on a little post-boba sprint like I did which not fun :/ The pink decor is adorable, super cute and Instagram worthy kinda vibes. In short: great drinks, fast service, cute space just... plan your restroom strategy wisely. read more
Updating my review to reflect that nothing has changed. While the boba and service are fine, the owner is consistently weird and disrespectful. I've had issues here in the past, and it's clear from his behavior that he doesn't respect boundaries. He wasn't even the one serving me, yet he was lurking and making things uncomfortable. I wouldn't recommend bringing friends here unless you want to feel like you're being watched or stalked. Save your money and go somewhere where you actually feel welcome read more

I was visiting Hawaii and my friend took us here. There's a parking lot across the way (pay for parking). Careful certain days they open later. We did wait for them to open...and so did another person.....cuz it's that good! I tried the taro rice yogurt. Perfect blend of sweet and tart and the rice was a yummy texture. Better rice drink than what I've had in LA. If I am in the area again will definitely visit. They have some seating inside but not too many tables. Staff was pleasant. read more
I've been to Cowcow's a couple of times over the years, and have ordered their yogurt purple rice drinks, which are rightfully very popular. They're filling and tasty, with a fresh, natural fruit flavor and satisfyingly chewy rice. But this time, I tried their rose milk tea with light ice and 25% sweetness level. It was really good! Rose flavor is hard to get right - it's often too weak or way too strong. But this one was a nice, happy medium, and it complemented the tea well. The boba texture is perfect, too, and 25% sweet was just right - not too sweet. The price is pretty good, considering other boba places charge up to $7 or 8 these days. They have stamp cards, and if you fill them up, you can redeem them for cute prizes like a mini tote bag. read more

CowCows has good purple rice smoothie drinks. I had the matcha yogurt and my sister had the strawberry yogurt. The matcha wasn't very strong but had a pleasant yogurt-forward flavor, and the strawberry was refreshing as well. The space is small and a bit cramped, but the self-service kiosk makes ordering quick and efficient. Overall, a solid spot for purple rice drinks and worth a try! read more

The taro yogurt drink is my go to. There is a kiosk you can self order but if you want customization, better to order at the counter. Friendly customer service. There is limited seating, 2 tables. Restroom available upstairs, closes at 6pm. read more

What kind of yogurt is used in the drinks? Is it with pasteurized milk?

Can you make your teas only HONEY sweetened and WITHOUT non-dairy creamer (which has dairy in it)?
I don't know about the honey but I know they have dairy free and zero added sugar tea options. Hope that helps. They answer their phone consistently if you are really curious.
Can you order online from Cow Cow Tea if so where can you find that?
No online order option is available.

Aloha, our non-dairy option will be non-dairy creamer. You also can call the store for any other questions from 11:00am to 9:30pm.
What's the dietary contents in a large extra taro and extra rice?
I believe it's yogurt.
Why do you have to get a fruit flavor when ordering purple rice yogurt? Why can't they just make yogurt flavor?
They do.
Order by phone & pay in person available?
You can call in & pay in person during pick up. This will save a bit of time during busy hours!
Still have to waiting a line even already called for orders?
There's an area for called in orders. You guys let them know you called it in and you can pay there. You don't have to wait in line to pay if you called in your order.
Where is the parking?
The metered parking on the streets are very few, I just park at the lot across the street behind all the restaurants.
Do they offer non dairy options?
Yes, only it's premium teas but no almond or soy milk for milk teas
Does the purple rice yogurt drinks have any milk in it? Or just yogurt?
Just yogurt.
Do they take pre orders over the phone?
Absolutely!! I've even preordered the drink and hour ahead just in case they were busy!! I love this option because they're always busy! You just have to worry about parking.
