I am not a breakfast person and Moena Cafe might have just converted me into one! After a sunrise hike nearby we were looking for a good spot where we could find something delicious for the whole family (including our picky eater). After doing some research on Yelp we decided to check out Moena Cafe. The restaurant is pretty small so I would recommend getting here early. We didn't have to wait for a table but probably 30min after we arrived they had a 40-minute wait (lucky, I know). I decided to go with the avocado toast and cold brew, and my husband had an order of pancakes with blueberries. First of all, the cold brew was probably the best cold brew I've ever had! I wouldn't say I am a coffee snob by any means, but I could definitely taste the difference in their coffee. The avocado toast was absolutely delicious and came in pretty huge portions! It was two pieces of toast with two eggs in a bed of arugula and a very generous amount of avocado. It was cooked to perfection and exactly what I needed after our hike. The pancakes are HUGE so I would recommend only ordering one. My husband was about to get two, but the waiter kindly suggested ordering only one, and she was right. My boyfriend and I stopped by Moena Cafe for breakfast after our hike at Makapuʻu. It was pretty busy when we arrived, so we ended up waiting about 15-20 minutes to be seated. I ordered the banana chantily pancakes and opted for the two-pancake plate since it was only about a few more dollars than getting a single pancake. My boyfriend ordered the crab eggs Benedict, and I also got a side of pineapple sausage hash. I had originally wanted the corned beef hash, but they sold out and offered the pineapple sausage hash instead. The banana chantily pancakes were good, though I think the chantily sauce is really what makes the dish stand out. The pancakes themselves were fairly standard. I probably could've just ordered the single pancake because the portion was hug, I barely finished half of it! The pineapple sausage hash was a pleasant surprise. I already love pineapple sausage, so I enjoyed the sweet and savory flavors, and it was nice to try something a little different. My boyfriend also really enjoyed his crab eggs Benedict with the sweet, fresh flavor of the crab. Our server was friendly, and the food came out in a reasonable amount of time despite how busy the restaurant was. The veggie omelette was good, though it met expectations without any surprises. Pancakes were as wonderfully fluffy as remembered. While the cinnamon roll was overly sweet for my taste, the mochi lilikoi was delicious, particularly the yummy, sweet jam, even if the "mochi" aspect wasn't very prominent. I'd definitely order the lilikoi again, but skip the cinnamon roll. We ordered it with fried rice which was a tasty combination with the tender meat and gravy. The Avocado Toast and the Corned Beef Hash were both okay but there wasn't anything special that stood out. We visited on a Saturday around 1pm and luckily we only had to wait 5 minutes for a table! You do have to sign your name on the wait list when you get there. The omelette here was so unique I started trying this at home! Be sure to order the kalua pig which is shredded roasted pig inside of an omelette. Always get the banana chantilly pancake, it's their specialty! So yummy and fluffy. The pancakes are very big so you can take leftovers home. I always get the two stack for that reason. This was one of my absolute favorite meals while in the Honolulu area. You must get the Short Rib Loco Moco, and get it with the fried rice. Trust me. Traditionally Loco Moco is served with hamburger patties, but this place ups the ante by serving it with a braised short rib. While we were there, they had a seasonal pancake, which was the Lilikoi, which is a type of passionfruit, definitely worth it. Wash it all down with some hot coffee or a cold brew. Super tired and hungry from our Makapu'u Lighthouse hike. Moena Cafe is the closest breakfast spot we haven't tried. It's a small, cute breakfast restaurant in Koko Marina. It was about 945ish on a Friday, and it wasn't busy. We signed in and waited about a good 8 minutes. I didn't get her name and she didn't introduce herself either but our server was nice and quick. My choice: MC Breakfast with crispy bacon, over easy eggs, country potatoes and pineapple + strawberry. I love the potatoes. It was cooked and seasoned perfectly. The bacon is really crispy. His choice: MC Breakfast with Portuguese sausage, over easy eggs, fried rice with pineapple + strawberry. He enjoyed his choice. He also loved the pineapple treat on the side. He even ate mine ;) He also wanted to try the cinnamon roll pancakes. I tried it. It didn't taste cinnamon. I looked at the bottom of the pancake and cut around where the cinnamon was. Now it's cinnamon roll pancakes ;) He liked it. It was just ok for me. I got their caramel macchiato. They should taste it and reconsider changing proportions. I didn't taste the coffee and caramel. The food was absolutely delicious. Fast service once you get to order. Area is tight and small but you're not there too long since food comes out fast. Eggs Benedict was so good. I was worried about the bread being too hard because it looks crunchy almost crouton like but it was so soft with a hint of garlic. The short rib loco moco was delicious and tender. Melts in your mouth! Highly recommend it with fried rice. Heard they have good scones. Never got to try them since it was already sold out. We went on a Sunday in June at 11AM.
