What I love: nice selection of coffee, teas, and other drinks which are NOT too sweet. One can always add additional sweetness yet difficult to take away. Love that the food menu offers satisfying "brunchy items" that are both filling yet healthy options. Many are low carb or gluten free options. And when they are not, it is specified on menu. If fried, cooked in healthier oils. Love that the food is deeeeelicious yet guilt free. Space is comfortable with lots of nooks to dine in and not feel crowded. Decor/ vibe/ ambiance from the time you walk in the door to the time you exit it is 10/10. If you want health food. This is the spot. Im a big guy and I came after surfing so this place didn't really fill me up, but that's more of a me problem. Good coffee. Exactly what you'd expect at a cafe. Nice staff. First: I rarely eat healthy. Dr Jodi Nishida (owner, friend, and prior work colleague) has advocated and committed to this education and lifestyle for years! It sounded too hard for me, but I happened to meet a keto cookbook author, Kelly Peterson, who is another friend's colleague, and oh my, I instigated a lunch date to check out Rise Cafe today. The food and beverages we enjoyed were tasty, filling, and fun! I had the brisket with cauliflower rice and bbq drizzle, the brisket was so generous and the yummy cauliflower rice was filling, that I didn't even finish. So no, keto doesn't mean you go hungry. Sharlene had the famous Kamalu Bowl, and Kelly had the Chicken and Chaffles with Matcha Latte. I had the Moketo soda, which was so delightful my friends ordered them for takeout upon our departure. No kidding, I think we have new fans. And, Rise Cafe has entree orders they feature for people like me who rarely cook and thinks this is too hard to do. Just order between Wednesday thru Saturday and pick up to reheat at home. They also have gift cards if you want to encourage others. Jodi has helped countless patients improve their numbers and health, and oh, she has her clinic upstairs too! A friend recommended Rise Cafe so we came this morning for breakfast. Staff was very nice and asked if it was our 1st time there and explained how to order. We ate upstairs and dogs are allowed which is a big plus for us. We had the loco moco, kamalu bowl, roasted macnut late, & raspberry matcha. Food was very good and filling. This morning was the first weekend breakfast out in quite awhile. As we Yelped, we decided to take a healthy route to breakfast and chose to take a drive to Kaimuki and give Rise Cafe a try. There was lots of paid parking available. So important to us because fighting for parking can put a big damper on the experience. The ambience of the cafe made me smile as I felt relaxed and welcomed. It was our first time here and the young lady at the register had a beautiful smile and patiently waited for us to make our menu selections while answering our questions. Seating seemed limited until she shared that there is additional seating upstairs and someone would bring our order to us. Nice! We went upstairs and were able to quickly find a table for two. The wait for our order was reasonable and allowed hubby and me to catch up on our schedules for the upcoming week. Our meals were served with a smile. My better half ordered the Brisket Fried Rice and Drip Coffee. I had the Kamala Bowl and Toasty Matcha. We both enjoyed our meals very much. Personally, I love the fact the it filled me without the typical greasy feel and sluggishness that I normally feel after consuming a savory breakfast. This was great healthy food. I'm not Keto but I've been meaning to try this keto cafe for a while. I had a dentist appointment which is in the area so I decided to go to Rise Cafe after. The cafe is small and is located across Daily Whisk Matcha. You can just park in the lot but I had found street parking that day. I was surprised to see the owner, Dr. Jodi, at the front taking orders. She was friendly and personable. I like following her page for keto meal ideas even though I'm not keto, I like to incorporate lower carb meals. I decided to do a to-go order of the Coconut Wireless espresso drink and the breakfast waffle sandwich. I was worried that I wouldn't like the drink because I am iffy about coconut milk but it was actually really good. I got it sweetened with a little honey and it was delicious. The breakfast waffle sandwich was a generous portion of eggs, bacon, cheese between 2 keto waffles. Basically like a keto version of a McGriddle. Located in Kaimuki, Rise Cafe is a small-ish cafe with two stories of seating. The bottom floor has the kitchen and counter where we ordered. There are also tables and chairs to sit downstairs. After looking at the menu, we decided to get the chicken and chaffles and kamalu bowl. Everything seemed healthy with limits on the carbs and a lack of sugar. We made our order and sat upstairs, which had a couple seating options. The spaces upstairs and downstairs felt clean and simple. There were some decorations but not an overwhelming amount. All of the food we ordered felt filling. The bowls included a variety of foods such as avocados, eggs, and more. The chicken and chaffles were good! The chicken was not oily and did not taste super fried. The chaffles had more of a grainy texture than usual waffles but were still tasty. The chicken and chaffles were about $18, which we felt was a bit pricey. However, we were full by the end of lunch. You just order at the front and they'll bring everything to your table. The Bulletproof Coffee was okay. I would have preferred the butter to be blended in with the coffee and cream instead of on the top. The Americano was good. Solid flavor. Steak and Eggs. Simple. The chimichurri sauce was delicious! Tasty and bright. The steak was a bit overcooked to my medium requested with about half tender, half toothsome. The steak might've sat under cool air because it was not warm when it arrived, and the pieces were mostly room temperature with some chilled cold. Not sure if that is the intention. The eggs, also requested medium, were over easy. The Chicken and Chaffles were very good, especially the chicken! Give me a basket of that! The chicken was so moist, juicy, tender, and flavorful. Nicely battered and fried. The chaffles were more like regular (healthy) waffles than cheesy or eggy. Overall, an all right experience. Enjoyed the atmosphere of this place. Comfortable and cozy. Food and drinks were fine. Maybe some adjustments for my preference. Chicken was amazing though! Service was okay. Can't say it was the most friendly or upbeat. I initially found out about Rise Cafe from their episode on KHON2 x Living 808. I always appreciate restaurants and establishments that focus on clean eating, especially for me, that hates feeling "sluggish" after eating foods that are made up of a lot of seed oils. Today (July 31, 2026) was my first time ordering food and drinks from here, but for first impressions, 10/10. I was excited to see a new cafe open up in the neighborhood. It looks very appealing from the outside and seeing the phrase, "food = medicine" in the front window made me even more curious. I was thinking just how good healthy, nutritious food could be. Well, it was excellent! I started off with a hot mocha, which had a light, sweet flavor with a hint of mocha; very nice. It was not as sweet and syrupy as other cafes. Then I had the loco moco, good choice. The wagyu patty was very tasty topped off with an egg and keto gravy. All blended together nicely and very flavorful. Unlike most times I have a loco moco, this one leaves you feeling good and not stuffed. Seeing the healthy make up of this loco moco, I was extremely surprised and happy with how good it was! My son had the chicken and chaffles, which I had to try after tasting my loco moco. It was the first time for me at this little quaint Cafe. It was very busy at the time and it was a Saturday. We ordered two plates mine was the brisket with fried rice and hers was the Kamalu Bowl. We had the order to go. When we got to the destination and opened up both plates mine didn't look too appetizing but hers did. After gobbling up my food I sort of enjoyed it but I definitely had better brisket. But to my surprise hers tasted really good especially the cauliflower risotto! I definitely order that next time. I'm not too much of a health food fanatic but I'll eat anything. One thing I notice is the service in this place was excellent the servers were very attentive and always asked if I needed help. The lady at the counter was more than willing to make me understand what's in the plates I love that kind of service. Work lunch Wednesday was ordered from Rise Cafe. I got the kamalu bowl which was interesting. The cauliflower rice had great flavor and I surprised myself by eating it all. The pickled onions brightened up the dish. My least favorite was the bacon because it wasn't crunchy and tough to chew. Give me a vegetarian option and I'd gladly order it. We didn't have to park but there is the kanji municipal lot on the backside that accepts credit cards. There is also metered stalls along waialae ave. A cute little spot in Kaimuki! I decided to meet a friend for brunch and was pleasantly surprised. I don't eat keto as often as before but it was a nice change of pace from my usual fare. The seating is a little limited but small spaces like these give me such a homey vibe! They were a little slammed with orders but overall I feel like the wait for food and drinks were very minimal. I ordered a hojicha latte and a brisket bowl with extra barbecue sauce. The hojicha latte was pretty comparable to other cafes but the brisket bowl was the star of the show! It was crazy how tender and flavorful it was, I could barely pick it up with my fork! The barbecue sauce is a little tangier than what you'd expect but I think it's a nice complement to the fattiness of the brisket. She's very knowledgeable about nutrition and has an amazing display that shows the amount of sugar in certain foods. Dr. Jodi was very personable and chatted with customers before she went upstairs to meet with patients. Hannah was the cheerful, efficient cashier and server. She was friendly and was able to answer all questions competently! I decided to order the Coconut Wireless (iced espresso with coconut milk and coconut flakes), Tiny Toast (homemade sourdough, toasted with butter), and Salad Flight (curried chicken salad, pink pickled onions, high protein egg salad, and cucumber poke). Rise cafe is like nothing else on our island! This cute cafe is located in Kaimuki and is all about health! Literally! The owner, Dr Jodi Nishida is the best keto doctor! This cafe is everything she stands for, and I am here for it! I had the Mac Nut latte and it was AMAZING! I usually have coffee with a lot of cream and sugar, but this coffee was clean and healthy and the difference I felt from it is amazing! For food, we had steak and eggs and chicken and chaffles. The steak was perfectly cooked and so soft, while the eggs were cooked to perfection and seasoned so well! The chicken and chaffles though...WOW! I've never had chicken like that and the chaffles...I didn't even know what a chaffle was till today, and it was AHHH.MAZING! The ambiance was so peaceful and calming, the food was so good and didn't leave you feeling sick from being overfull because everything you eat there is CLEAN! We originally wanted to try Moke's that's a few stores down, but they happen to be closed and since we had already parked we decided to stay in the plaza and choose something else so we decided on Rise Cafe. I had the rice brisket and it was actually good. I added two scrambled eggs. I usually like some hot sauce/spice (my Mexican self) in my food and they only had one Tabasco bottle. My boyfriend had the breakfast sandwich, and he said his was good too! The gentleman who helped us at the counter was very nice. I come here constantly! For the longest time I couldn't find anywhere in town that was "healthy" and actually healthy (the vegan craze is completely out of hand). I basically buy chaffles in bulk to pop in the air fryer on days when I'm rushing to work, and I'm here probably every other day grabbing brisket and cauliflower rice, or a pistachio matcha latte at a minimum. The staff is always super nice, and Kaimuki is a great area. The prices are super reasonable. Honestly, everywhere I eat on island is so overpriced for a product that isn't even that good for you, so coming here and getting a meal that's really worth your money and good for your body is so refreshing. Very different than your typical brunch menu (ie: pancakes, french toast etc.) I've followed this cafe on Instagram for a while. This cafe is known for providing low carb bites + they do NOT use any inflammatory seed oils + are gluten free! (If you're celiac/know anyone who is celiac, please share! I know some people who suffer from celiac and it is hard to find places to eat that are gluten free) I parked near Good Will (street parking), but you could park in the paid lot if you don't want to walk as far. I ordered downstairs. The girl who took my order was very polite. She articulated well. My food and drink took about 15 minutes to come out. Finally got to check this place out while visiting, and it absolutely lived up to the hype! I've heard so many great things about Rise, and it definitely has that homey, cozy vibe that makes you want to stay awhile. The staff was incredibly welcoming, and since I'm not very familiar with keto, they took the time to explain the benefits of the diet in a way that was easy to understand. I left not only with a happy tummy, but also with some new knowledge! I ordered the steak & eggs (but subbed the eggs for avocado) along with the coconut matcha latte. As a big matcha lover, I have to say their matcha was spot on--the flavor was bold but smooth, and the coconut cream complimented it very well. The steak was cooked perfectly and paired beautifully with the chimichurri. The overall experience made me wish we had something like this on the mainland. The combination of great food, warm atmosphere, and staff who genuinely care about both the food and the customer's experience was everything. I dabble in going keto on some days, so when my husband found this spot on Yelp to have brunch at, I was down. We parked in the lot with the meters. We didn't see the back entrance from the parking lot. We ended up walking to the street side and entered through the front. The menu is small which is fine by us so we wouldn't have to mull over it too long. The girl at the counter was very informative and friendly. My husband ordered the steak and eggs with chimichurri sauce and I got the Kamalu Bowl with boiled eggs and bacon over cheesy risotto style cauliflower rice. For drinks I got the roasted macadamia nut latte and my husband got the drip coffee. There's tables downstairs and upstairs. We chose to go upstairs. Our food and drinks were brought upstairs when it was ready. Everything tasted great. We literally mopped our plates with no problem. The cheesy risotto style cauliflower rice is something I would want to make at home next time. Coincidentally, Champ Kaneshiro from The Champ Show Hawaii on YouTube came upstairs to film a segment with the owner around the time we were about to leave. Back again! Thank you Dr. Jodi for the $5 discount. Mom and I tried something new today. She got the Special: Loco Moco with 1 patty and 1 egg on fried rice. I got the Kamalu Bowl (YUM!!). We both got the cappuccino which was so good we got 2 to go on our way out. read more
