Guieb Cafe is one of my go-to breakfast spots on Oahu. If you're looking for a brunch spot with local flavors and creative twists, this is the place. Their menu has something for everyone, from ube pancakes and loco moco to longanisa dishes. I ordered the Trio, which lets you sample both sweet and savory favorites, and every item was delicious. The ube pancakes were light, fluffy, and buttery, topped with a rich, sweet ube cream that wasn't overly sugary. They're definitely one of the standout dishes on the menu. Came here for the first time in a while. The prime rib loco moco was cold and tough like it was sitting so that was pretty disappointing. The eggs, gravy, and garlic fried rice were delicious. The Ube pancake was super delicious just like I remembered. Staff were friendly and fast. Theres a good amount of tables to dine at, but it can get busy. We've been wanting to try this place based on the Yelp reviews. So, we finally made our way here! Free parking is available but when it's busy, you will need to exercise some patience. As we entered the restaurant, it was BUSY!! As soon as a table opened up, we were promptly seated the overall atmosphere is what you would expect at any family diner. Had a work brunch there the other day. Spent a good 30-45 mins after our meal discussing work and life and not once were we rushed out. Infact, the staff here kept refilling our coffee and water! The aloha spirit from the staff is impeccable! Oh and unto the food! Between my colleagues and I we ordered their Oreo Cheesecake Pancakes, Adobo Fried Rice Omelette with Lechon Kawali and Crab Cake Benes. Guieb Cafe might just be our favorite breakfast spot in Honolulu. There was a line when we arrived, but it moved quickly and was absolutely worth the wait. The dining area isn't very large, but service is efficient, so the turnaround for dine-in is faster than expected. We ordered Da Local with Portuguese sausage, spam, bacon, tomatoes, white and green onions, and cheddar cheese, paired with garlic fried rice. Every bite delivered. We also tried the Loco Moco Fried Rice with a wagyu beef patty, which was rich, savory, and cooked perfectly. To end the meal, we shared the Poi Mochi waffle made with pounded taro root and served with haupia sauce. It was the perfect sweet finish without being overly heavy. My son has a thing for ube and wanted to get some pancakes which thoroughly did not disappoint. While the pancakes were great on their own, the mascarpone topping pushed it over the edge. It was a fantastic way to start the day. We also ordered the chicken and waffles. I have no words to describe how revelatory this chicken was. The waffles were fine but the chicken was definitely the star of the show. There were two dark meat pieces of chicken which were mostly deboned. The chicken was marinated but what they did to the skin was illegal. There was so much crisp and flavor in the fried skin. It wasn't greasy at all but I suspect that this thing was likely fried in lard. Sometimes it's better not to know, your arteries will tell you later anyways. As an aside, the name is pronounced "Geb" with a short e sound. I had to ask since I nearly had a stroke trying to pronounce it before we got there. read more

Had it not been for Yelp I wouldn't have stopped into Guieb (King St). The location isn't great. Its parking was cramped. The strip mall this place resides in leaves something to be desired. It's a modest cafe with descent seating. I couldn't locate a bathroom inside so maybe it's outside somewhere? What matters most is the space was clean and the employees were attentive, hard working and kind. I ordered the Ube French Toast with a side of eggs over medium and a carbonated mango drink. My friend ordered a steak special with fried rice and eggs sunny side up. I thought my food was a coco-nutty Ube delight. It was a fun meal but I thought the price was steep for the plate. I paid $16 for the French toast and $6 for two eggs. I know prices are high in Hawaii but it seems like a stretch for 2 slices of French toast. I wouldn't order the Mango-mosa again. It was a cute yet tiny drink with little flavor for $5. Fortunately my friends plate had more generous portions and she truly loved and devoured her meal. We also tried their beignets. I finally checked out Guieb in Kalihi (same area as Diners) just off North King Street. Parking can be a little snug if you're driving a big vehicle, but trust me it's worth the effort. I just wished there was more mascarpone because it was so good. Even with a full house, the food came out fast, the service was on point, and I left stuffed and extremely satisfied. I had the prime Rib Loco Moco and my friend had the Cajun Ahi. R decided to split and share our entrees. I thought the Cajun Ahi was pretty good. I ordered the Prime Rib medium rare. I think the Prime Rib was a pretty good portion. It was however a little on the tougher side as i really had to cut through it with their knife. Maybe would have been better to have gotten a steak knife instead. The presentation was good and just wanted to dive in. I was kinda hungry. Lol. I like that the eggs over easy were not broken. This is one of our favorite places. We've been to both the Kalihi and Wahiawa locations. Staff is attentive, friendly, and provide quick service. We were seated immediately and given menus. This last time, I got the adobo fried rice with lechon kawali (my favorite) and my husband got the poi mochi waffles with a side order of eggs. The food was delicious as always. The adobo fried rice was generous with the adobo, with large chunks of meat all over. Other places usually just have a few tiny pieces or shreds. A thin scrambled fried egg blanket covers it. The lechon kawaili is not tossed up in the vinegar sauce, but it's served in a little cup on the side instead so you can control how vinegary you want it. My husband enjoyed his poi mochi waffles. It was crispy outside, with a slight chewiness inside from the mochi flour. It's served with a white coconut syrup in a cup so you can control the amount. There's a restroom in the back. You have to pass through the kitchen to get to it. read more

So many great options on this Filipino-Hawaiian inspired menu! It was hard to decide so I just had to go with what I was craving that day - corned beef with eggs! I know it should really go with rice but couldn't resist when I saw you could upgrade to sweet potato fries. We also had the longsilog and the ube french toast. Overall food was pretty good, but my portion was just alright on the corned beef and sweet potato fries weren't very crispy. I wish I had gone for the 3 Bite flight which features a mini version of three of their top items! The longanisa was cooked really nicely, probably the best item we got. I also liked that the ube french toast came with both ube and coconut sauces. Food did come out quickly though which is a must because that place is tiny inside, so quick turnover is definitely needed. Decent hole in the wall cafe. Nothing fancy but they have an interesting menu with a lot of options serving both breakfast and lunch items whenever you go. No alcohol is served here. I had the sampler plate with popular 3 things for $24. I wouldn't order this item again nor would I get any of the items individually because none were amazing (IMHO). The plate was the exact size to hold each item so if you don't like your food to mix together this is not the thing to get. The height of the locomoco made it hard to eat on a narrow space. The wagyu beef loco moco was my least favorite. Despite it being "wagyu" beef patty it was very dense and hard. I've had better patties at zippys and I don't even like zippy's. I'd rather the meat be less packed together and more fall apart/ tender. The egg on top was perfectly cooked and the rice tower made it stand tall on my tiny plate which was bursting to contain the 3 items on it. The gravy was very rich, kind of salty, not amazing. The crab cake egg Benedict was my fav out of the 3 but I wouldn't order it again on its own. The crab cake was a hash brown with imitation crab inside of it. Interesting take on a crab cake. Hash brown was crisp. Egg perfectly cooked. Hollandaise sauce was bland. There was avocado in it too but the avocado was brown and not fresh. The ube pancake was dry and bland, the only thing it has going for it is the ube butter cream on top. Otherwise it was dryyyy. And crumbly. It needed more sauce/ butter/ flavor/ anything but just purple. Hubby had the ube French toast and it was like dessert. Very sweet. He ordered a side of bacon and eggs and the eggs came out immediately leaving him waiting for the rest of his food separately. Coffee was good. They refilled our cups without us having to flag anyone down. Service was prompt. Plenty of parking. They do military and KUPU a discount of 10%. read more

Perfection!! I should of reviewed this gem a while back. But I am selfish and don't want more people to come! Haha We love this place. There is nothing bad here. Service is great. Be prepared to wait. Smaller tables and 4 and less move faster. If you have a large party, be ok that it will take a while, this is a small place but so good! My only suggestion would be to season the beef more or better in the loco moco patty. But still amazing. This was probably my favorite breakfast place in Oahu, HI. We didn't have to wait long (no reservations were allowed, just walk ins) and at the time we came - it was convenient that it was happy hour! Therefore our dish was HALF OFF. However, even it wasn't for that deal, I still would've loved the experience. We ended up ordering their popular dishes: ube mascarpone pancakes, crab cake, and the country fried steak.
