    Mold on Old Fashion Burger

We used to love The Counter & order regularly almost weekly. There's been inconsistency here & there over the years, but lately the inconsistency has been consistent. From the bar service to being poor many of times, to the burgers being under seasoned a few times recently, to today having mold on our Old Fashioned Burger tonight (cheddar cheese), that was the final straw. Called the restaurant about the mold & they said they could give a refund, but I will believe it when I see it.

Vegan patty with sauce flight and large portion of shoestring fries

We have been coming to the Counter for the past 7 or 8 years, my son has food allergies and I'm a vegetarian so this is one of the only safe places for us to eat as a family. They are very good with food allergies and the customized burger is such a good option for those with dietary restrictions. My son has a wheat and dairy allergy and they have a gluten free bun an a vegan cheese, the fries are also safe for him. They have two vegetarian burger options, the Vegan patty and the impossible patty. I've had both and they are great. Lots of options for cheese and sauces and no up charge for most toppings, I always do roasted peppers, grilled onions, and pineapple. The serving of fries is also very generous. The only place where they lose points is the price, it's usually $25-30 for a burger once you add fries and fountain drinks are $5.25. I've had a wide range of wait time for food but at the most recent visit it was quick and our server was friendly, so no complaints. We will continue to return to the Counter and are so happy to have this safe option for our family.

The Counter has a great happy hour menu, delicious customizable burgers and salads, and an excellent rotating selection of beer on tap. The service is occasionally slow, but the servers are always pretty quick and friendly. However, sometimes there are inconsistencies with the quality of the food and there have been several times where they've gotten our order wrong. (One time they forgot to put the chicken in our chicken sandwiches!) Vibes: The restaurant is really big with a long bar that has counter seating and they have outdoor seating that is pet friendly. They have restrooms in the back of the restaurant. The music isn't too loud, they have TVs throughout the restaurant, and a take-out station near the restrooms. Parking: Kahala Mall has various parking lots full of free parking.

    Signature onion ring burger
    The Burger Study ..

Grilled Apostle: At first sight the burger looked amazing with a pile of onion rings, lettuce and tomato, cheese. Huge! But the Burger was average. I prefer my burgers with more of a grilled taste. ________________________________________________ Stack Analyst: Crispy onions piled on top were a beautiful touch, gave the burger a great texture. Burger would have lacked flavor without the garlic aioli though. ________________________________________________ The Premium Purist: I ordered medium well and got more of a medium rare. The beef patty was ok. The toppings were ok. The bun was ok. The flavors combined to a non-luxurious ok burger. __________________________________________________ Braddah Big Buns: Eh. Shmall kine dry. __________________________________________________ Captain Messy Hands, Keeper of the Drip: Pulled up to The Counter and ordered their signature build -- all-natural Angus beef stacked with provolone, tomatoes, fried onions, sautéed mushrooms, garlic, and aïoli on a brioche bun. On paper? Strong lineup. In reality? Just decent. Not dry, but nowhere near that messy, sauce-running-down-your-hands status I live for. The aïoli was there, but it didn't command the bite. More like a background note than the main event. Flavor-wise? Balanced. Respectable. Nothing offensive, but nothing that made me pause mid-bite and say, "yeah... this is it." A solid, middle-of-the-road burger. It gets the job done, but doesn't earn a return mission. __________________________________________________ Double stack daddy: The Counter was.... decent but not quite a hit for me. I ordered my burger medium well, but it came out closer to medium, which was a little disappointing. That said, the aioli & fries were easily the highlight of the meal. Super flavorful and definitely carried the burger. Overall, it wasn't bad, just didn't fully live up to expectations. Good experience, but I've had better burgers for sure.

My very first time at this place and I'm usually the McDonald kind of burger guy. However, my wife and I were in the area and wanted to try. And, we're glad we did. The burger was amazing and the fries tasted awesome. In addition, I had the chili and it was the best chili I've ever eaten. I highly recommended. The price is not so different from your regular burger chain but you get better tasting food and eat it in a more high standard ambience. The restaurant is very unique!!! Lastly, I want to commend the staff; very welcoming and friendly-the Aloha spirit!!!

Not a bad place for a really good burger and an Old Fashioned! The customer service was good as well. Everyone we interacted with were super friendly and gave us their opinion on what's best on the menu. Give the jalapeño bacon burger a shot, but make sure to pair it with an Old Fashioned - trust me! Happy eating, my foodies!

Cutey patooty sliders for Happy Hour, I mean children
    Chelsea S.

Ever heard of children's happy hour? Me neither but The Counter has invented it. Its been a while since I ate the happy hour here, or even ate at The Counter, so I decided to give them another try. Firstly, pay close attention to the * on the Happy Hour menu for drinks. We didn't, so when it said "$5 Draft Beers*", we assumed it was any that were listed. Nope - it's only the * ones. Otherwise, regular price. That's fine. I do wish it was much more emphasized. Other Happy Hour menus that reference their regular menu clearly distinguish with red, bolded font. But to the Counter's credit, they did mark it with the * so I am just warning you to pay close attention, and this applies for the wine as well. Secondly, the children's part of this happy hour is due to the size of the dishes. We got the Parmesan Fries $5, Mini sliders $9, and Southern Fried Chicken Sliders $9. Parmesan fries were decently sized. I think worth $5, for sure. But the Mini sliders and Southern Fried Chicken Sliders were incredibly tiny. At $9 you'd expect a little more than two mini rolls and malnourished chicken tenders. The sliders were slightly better, granted the beef was more substantial than the chicken but even then, it was plain insulting. I think even a child could eat more than this. Heck, go to CPK and check out their "children" portions because its twice the size of what we got here. The chicken tenders were also kind of dry and there was no sauce for the sliders, so extra dry and boring. The meat of the sliders were indeed tasty - as is their regular burgers. But the taste lasted one two bites, maybe, because by the time I could enjoy it - it was gone. I couldn't stress how disappointed we were with their Happy Hour. Rename it to "Children's Hour" or better yet, "Sad Hour". The only redeeming thing about the Happy Hour is perhaps the $5 beer - the only reason I'd come back. I am not trying to bag on them, but look at my pictures and see the portions they're trying to pass off as food for adults. IF the price for those chicken sliders were $5 and beef sliders was $7, I would understand the logic better. Do yourself a favor and grab a beer here for Happy Hour while you wait for your friend, or just to kill time, then when you are ready to eat, walk out the door and go to another place with actual Happy Hour deals that aren't laughable.

The make-your-own burger menu is fun with lots of options to choose from - I ordered a 1/3 Ib beef burger cooked medium well on toasted sourdough bread, with garlic aioli, dill pickles, tomato, caramelized onion, grilled corn, grilled red bell pepper, and spinach. It was tasty, but a bit overpriced in my opinion. Total before tip and tax was $17.25. Our server, Milissa, was so sweet and friendly.

At the time, he stated that him and his partner were in a competition to see how many triples they could sell, but figured I'd keep that in the back of my mind for our next visit. We came here on a recommendation from my boyfriend's coworker and I'm glad we came! The burgers and fries were made fresh. There are only a hand full of tables inside and a small bar area, but there is also outdoor seating outside, too! A neat fact is that there were pictures posted from when the shop first opened up and to see They Daley as a fixture in Chinatown is amazing since they've stuck around and adapted to the development around. The burger was delicious, too. They have an aioli sauce that was good with diced up pickles. Usually I request no pickles but the small bursts really added to the texture and feel of the burger overall. 10/10 would come again!

I'm pleased to report that this latest order contained a perfectly prepared burger and a bag of crispy fries (as ordered). The remaining nitpicks were: 1) having to wait an additional 10 minutes past the time the order was supposed to be ready, 2) paying $6 for a bag of fries. Increase the price of the burger by $1 and reduce the price of the fries. Yes, the total would be the same but the value would be where it belongs. In any case, $10 is money well spent for a great burger.

I'm not sure how new they are but it appeared that they had only 1 server, who was very efficient and attentive. The food took a bit longer than I would have liked, especially for burger and fries. Menu was adequate, burgers, hotdogs and fries, which is a good sign for me because that means they're not trying to do too much. I got two wagyu cheeseburgers, no onions, extra pickles for the girls, the One burger for myself, and a basket of fries. The girls really loved their burgers and they were a really good size, I could've done away with just ordering one and dividing it between the two of them. The bread was really nice, I can't tell if it was maybe a brioche burger bun or what but it was super tasty, soft and it sopped up the yummy juices well. They did excellent on the request for extra pickles, and the bread to patty ratio was very generous. The fries were good. Nothing extraordinary, but they complemented the burgers well. I think they might be the Ore-Ida frozen ones, which is fine. For my burger, I was pleasantly surprised and realized that I LOVE blue cheese with my burger. Between the tomato bacon jam, the pickles, onions, and special sauce, it was like a well-orchestrated symphony, each flavor getting highlighted without being overpowering, and complementing the rest. That being said, somehow, there was something missing. I am not quite sure what, but I think it's from the actual hamburger patty. I really wanted to say this was one of the best burgers I've had but there was something that just didn't quite get me there. For a wagyu patty, I think I needed it to be richer, and to hold its own with the other ingredients, but it felt like the add-ons were carrying the burger. I mean, I felt like the bread was doing more than the patty itself. Maybe the patty got a bit overdone and would've worked better medium rather than medium-well to well-done? I really can't be sure. Will I go back? Yes, for sure. I am curious about all the other burger variations they have with the fried Kimchi and the Umami mayo. Maybe I'll even try The One fries with all the fixings. And if they could just find that one tweak, they may turn out to be one of the best burgers around.
