Started out with hostess angrily saying we used the wrong door to enter the restaurant which was a bit bizarre. She did not say hello or anything walked us to a table after blurting out the "right door" to enter. It was dinner time and there were very few people inside (for good reason) so we were seated right away. Next the waiter was having a hard time getting our order straight. When he brought the water glasses out he lost his balance grabbing a cup and dumped the tray with the glasses, getting some of us wet. The dishes were not cleared from the table. The food was rather poor. The portions were large, but tasteless. It was all mediocre at best. Nobody liked their food. Would have ordered McDonalds over our meal. This was the 2nd time there and our last. About a year ago we went there and it was borderline. It's gotten worse since then. Nothing worth going back there for again. read more

I hate to say it, but I was disappointed with our order today. We've been fans of Tex808 for some time now, but today it was not good. I ordered our dinner (Smashburger, tots and bbq wings) at 4:30PM for a 5:30PM pickup. I got there at 5:40PM and our meal was not ready. Our meal came out at 6PM. The food was room temperature, the buns were soggy, the tots were really lack luster (leftovers?) and the wings...just ok. I won't order the wings again. Safeway and Foodland's wings are Class A in comparison. I think the problem may have been that I ordered our food too early and kitchen got right on it, packaged it up and set it aside. So I'm thinking our order sat there forgotten for an hour or so. It took the waitress at least 20 minutes just to find our order and bring it out. Maybe the kitchen staff are new. We did not expect to be dining at a Texas BBQ joint while on Oahu, but there we were. Located near a lake? The views were nice, especially during sunset. Customer service was horrible. We had to flag down out waitress several times & she just seemed so angry. We were there for Happy Hour & she charged several items as full price, so double check your receipt. In Hawaii Kai by Island Brew, Tex 808 is a barbecue spot. There is a good amount of parking out front, as it shares a large lot with the other shops in the area. There are a good amount of tables inside and outside, with some bar seating inside. The tables by the water have a nice view looking out onto the water. Definitely a nice spot! The people working have been kind and quick to communicate each time we have been there. We got the brisket loco moco, barbecue plate with brisket, mac and cheese, and bread, and a barbecue plate with turkey, beans, and bread. The loco moco was about $20 and the plates were about $20 for a single. These seemed to be a bit much for the portions for the plates. The loco moco was alright. There was a good amount of meat and the portion was good. There were also 2 eggs, which seemed generous! The brisket itself was a bit tough but not bad. The mac and cheese was pretty good and the bread. The beans as well were alright. The turkey was tasty but a bit dry. Overall not bad, we would probably try the frickles next time. read more

My friends and I go for Trivia, and get food while enjoying the fun. My absolute favorite thing are their nachos. It comes with pulled pork and a ton of different toppings. It was delicious and is super easy to share with the table. I also got the fish tacos. I was pretty disappointed in the size of the tacos considering the size. There was hardly any toppings on it and the fish was tiny. If I come again, I would stick with the nachos. But still overall have a good time here. read more

Great food, right by the marina! Smoked meats have lots of flavor and crispiness, but not dry. Plenty of sauces to choose from if you want more flavors! You can also order food from the joint burrito place. Big burrito with yummy birria. And a side of rice and beans! Pleasantly surprised by the amount of onion rings given in the appetizer. Been here a few times usually they're pretty good so it's a regular spot color us. Decent food and decent service with a nice casual atmosphere and a view over the bay. This last time was the same. Came for lunch and tried sandwiches vs plates. Wife had the bbq sandwich, I have the bbq Philly steak sandwich. Wife's was good and the Cole slaw was a nice balancing component. Mine, the want to be Philly steak sandwich was good, except for the cheese sauce they used, which completely ruined the dish. Tried scrapping it off but the meal was already ruined. Plus, my onion rings were weary oily, still dripping on my plate when it was served. What really gave me a bad feeling as when we paid, using the Tex 808 app, it showed no tip so I left a $10 bill. More than deserved but oh well. Then, only later, when I saw my email receipt, I see not only was a tip added, but it was 22%, which is way more than deserved. So, system default I assume caused me to tip twice and each time more than I would have normally given. Will I come back, prob, as we usually do. Not too many bbq places. I really wanted to like this place, since I've been wanting to try it out for years. Unfortunately, the food missed the mark on Sunday afternoon. The mac and cheese was dry and lacked seasoning, the rib and the brisket were also on the dry side. We also weren't given any BBQ sauce so we just waited for a table to leave to grab the bottles. I'm not sure if it was just an off day, but overall, I wasn't impressed. That said, the atmosphere was great! The views were beautiful, the live music added a nice touch, and the onion rings and beans were delicious. However, the service was extremely slow, which made the experience even less enjoyable. Loved the view! Watching the boats drive by was amazing! They were sharing a space with "Tio's Burritos". That was cool to see a mix of decor lol :) They had seating inside, but there were lots of seating outside and it was a lovely overcasted day we had to sit outside. There also was this nice lawn that was next door with a lovely picnic table! For another day.... They had a simple menu with lots of variety. We had the Brisket Loco Moco, Garlic Shrimp Plate, and onion rings. Our orders came pretty quickly while we watched the boats float by. The garlic shrimp plate was pretty good, not heavily garlicky like some other shrimp plates lol. The brisket loco moco was kind of salty but tasty. Tried here for the first time. Had brisket Mac and cheese which was good if it was hot. The food on the top of the bowl was cold as if it was sitting out for 10 minutes and the food in the bottom of the bowl was warm. I also had the Barria Burrito filled with Brisket. I must have missed on the menu that it was deep fried like a chimichanga. I didn't want this deep fried. It came with chips and salsa. The salsa tasted like It came from a bottle and not fresh. Service is slow. It's probably because they have one wait staff for the entire restaurant which was about 1/4 filled. They forgot my ice tea and I wanted to remind them but decided not to since they only had 1 wait staff. It's still worth trying out and hopefully they will have more wait staff. read more

Tex808 has lost a customer now. I previously had good experiences at the Hawai'i Kai location. Between the Moanalua location and my experience at Hawaii Kai this week, I am done. I placed a pick up order Monday for brisket and fish. I've never had such horrible dried up, old, burned brisket. The pieces were as hard as biting into plastic! The black tasted as if it had been scraped off a pan. For a place to represent fresh brisket this was the furthest from it! When I opened the fish I initially noticed 2 things, the soggy crust and a smell. I was starving and went to grab a piece. The next red flag should have been the weight of the fish but again I was hungry. I bit into it and almost threw up. The taste was foul, the fish was hard and I immediately felt sick. The entire $48 order was trashed. I called the restaurant and was told they would refund the money, I'm still waiting. This is unacceptable to risk health for food like this. read more

The view here is unbeatable -- absolutely the highlight. Portions are generous, too. We started with two margaritas and the ahi dip. The dip came out unbelievably fast, even before our drinks arrived. It was lukewarm, almost like it had been pre-made and sitting out. The restaurant wasn't busy at all -- maybe one other table -- so it wasn't a matter of them keeping popular items ready to go. For our entrées, we ordered the three-meat combo with mac and cheese and the garlic shrimp plate. The garlic shrimp came out hot and delicious, though the rice was pretty gummy, like it had been sitting in water too long. The three-meat plate, unfortunately, was cold. The meat itself had good flavor, but it was served chilled. The mac and cheese was also cold and tasted like melted Kraft singles. Seen many commercials on TV, so we figured we would give it a try. Ample free parking at this location. Noticed that some patrons from the taco shop next door come through to get open seating by the water as well (looks like first come, first serve). Nice chill vibes, with views by the water. Looks like they're dog friendly for those that want to dine outside under their cafe lights and picnic benches, that's also a win. The servers were hustling and I noticed that the supervisor kept instructing the team to clear the tables, and touch as many tables as they can. Also a win, in that they're trying to power through the business rushes. I just wish that the food wasn't overly salted. I personally didn't enjoy any of the meats. The ribs didn't fall off the bone as I had wanted them to, the pulled pork and brisket were too salty for me. And the nachos were also super salty. The chips had a seasoning on it that made it very salty, the cheese made it even saltier, and the meats on top of it just put it over the top for me. I think I went through a pitcher of water that night, felt sorry for the server who had to keep refilling our waters. The best part of the meal were those mini churros. The location is beautiful, right on the water in Hawaii Kai but the food is very blah and bland. Our server was nice and friendly, he refilled our drinks and checked on us. The restaurant was empty except for a few people at the bar. We came at happy hour and got a few specials. The nachos were okay, topped with shredded pork and the usual toppings. The fried pickles were overcooked, dry, too hard to eat and flavorless. The smashed burger was okay, really smashed thin and it was a combo with a margarita. #15 of 52 (weeks of trying a new restaurant at least once a week) I am not a big BBQ fan but my honey likes it and this was his choice for the week. We live in Central Oahu but chose the Hawaii Kai location since it's on the water. Plenty of parking which is always nice. We arrived around 5 on a Saturday evening and not busy at all. Lots of room in the restaurant and we snagged a seat outside by the water. Our waiter came right over to give us waters while we perused the menu. So much sounded good that it took me a while to decide. Right when I thought I had made up my mind our server told us they were out of burnt ends. Well shoot! My honey ordered the fish tacos which came with chips and salsa. I ordered the Big Texan which is their version of a Cuban sandwich but with brisket. The side option was fries which I didn't want. I couldn't substitute for another side except for onion rings for an upcharge. Ok, pet peeve time..... If the menu shows that all sides are the same price then why can't you sub out a different side? Makes zero sense to me. Ok, rant over! I also opted for a sweet tea as it's not a prevalent drink on the island but I wasn't really fan. The menu says it's fresh brewed and maybe it is but tasted on the instant side to me. I think the wait time for our food was about 15 minutes so not bad. The food arrived and was mouth watering. I dug into my sandwich and it was pretty tasty. The brisket was nice and I liked the pickle which is so needed in such a fatty sandwich. What I didn't love was the heavy amount of mustard. The onions rings I got were great and I got so many I forgot about the upcharge. My honey enjoyed his fish tacos. Nice battered fish, good slaw and sauce. Lots of chips and salsa on the side. Came here for lunch. We sat out on the back patio by the water. We ordered chicken tenders, Cajun mahi mahi sandwich and the bbq brisket sandwich. All were delicious. I enjoyed my mahi mahi sandwich. Was well seasoned. Came with fries, cold slaw and tartar sauce. Slaw tased great - a little too much sauce but otherwise was good. Love the spicy smoked BBQ. I want to say this is maybe the 2nd time we've tried food from here. There was a lot of time in between visits and I remember why now. The portions are decent. Mobile order is great. Food quality is just average. The food is quite salty yet not very flavorful. Brisket was dry and not exciting to eat. Ribs were just okay. Mac and cheese was alright but not very well seasoned maybe. Fried pickles were good but super salty. Chicken wings were pretty good. The one dish I really liked was the Tex Steak and Eggs (chicken fried steak) with potatoes and eggs. That was crispy, large portion, and gravy was good and seasoned better than anything else we ate. These people were so great! I tried to place an online order via Yelp (which means Grub Hub), but it never went through. I tried looking for it on Grub Hub but it never showed up on the app. I know! So I called the number listed on Yelp and they said when they called the restaurant there was a recording that said the number was disconnected. So I tried calling the number and it course it was fine. So Grub Hub told me to ask the restaurant to call them instead. And they did! They were SO nice about it all! In between alllll of that, we placed our order in person. It was fairly quick. Initially I wanted to eat there but you can see the bar from the door and my kid thought it was just a bar and wasn't down for that. Surprise! Actually, it's mostly a restaurant - it's just that then bar is nearest the door. Alas, I had already agreed to getting the food to go, so that's that. In spite of the fact that this is a BBQ place, my son got wings and I got fish and chips. We also got fried pickles (one of our favorite things). Let me tell you. I thought these fried pickles were a bit expensive but when I opened the box I knew I was wrong. What a huge order! And so delicious. We for extra ranch (because who doesn't love dipping their fried pickles) and the ranch was delicious! My son got the garlic parm wings and he just loved them. I got the fish and chips and the pieces of fish were enormous. Also, I ate too many pickles so I gave the rest to my hubby. This place is located in the same complex as the Hawaii Kai Safeway so tons of free parking. And like I said, the people are so wonderful. It seems to be co-located with Tio's Burritos so I think you can get food from both places and eat there. They were doing pretty brisk business while we were waiting, so while they are pretty speedy, you can also do yourself a favor and call your order in. Just don't try and place it via Yelp! read more

There are not too many places where you can dine right on the waterfront without a lot of people or activity going on. It's something about the water that makes the meal so much more pleasant. The food here is good, nothing great but consistently good. I had a chopped salad with brisket. The brisket was soft and vegetables fresh. The barbecue sauce really adds the flavor to the brisket. Likewise for the fish tacos, which I also had. Without the barbecue sauce, the taco lacks that extra kick. There are three sauces that come with your meal; original, sweet, and spicy. I prefer the spicy. Its not too hot but has a little more flavor than the other two. The service was good. My water did have a piece of plastic in it. They quickly replaced it when I brought it to their attention. Overall though, an enjoyable meal in a nice environment. read more

Walked in waited to be seated and no hostess was near and no acknowledgement from the bartender. This should have been our first clue. Walked further in and found someone at the back of the restaurant who directed us to any seat on the patio near the water-nice space and it wasn't busy. Friendly waitstaff but not very honest. Said they smoke their chicken wings and said he wld comp us on our drink order because we waited so long. Wings were not smoked, overcooked, dry and burnt. The bottles of bbq sauce were greasy and the bbq sauce watered down. The spicy Bloody Mary we ordered was horrible-light in color, almost pink and no spice. Then an annoying finish came with the check and the horrible devices that they come to your table with for credit card purchases. These guys should stick to burgers. Their bbq sucks, dry, tough, flavorless, not smoked properly. On second thought Teddy's burgers are not that great either. read more

Not sure exactly how we found this place but boy am I glad we did. After 10 days of paying $$$$ Oahu prices for dinner it was refreshing to find a place with great food at a good price. Their beer selection was great (Highly recommend the Voodoo Ranger Juice Force IPA). Dinner was great! Service quick and very attentive. Friendly atmosphere with a great view of the Kuapa Pond. Thanks to our server Timmy who was very patient with us as we asked 100 questions about the menu. I would write more but I'm going into a meat coma, which is a good thing.
