Zippy's Kahala is great. Loads of parking on two levels. Lower level is covered and there are stairs and an elevator to get customers upstairs. For a holiday, it was very easy to order snd pick up my breakfast order. I was a little worried I wouldn't find parking. Clearly posted signs for paid and unpaid phone order pick ups. Plenty of staff on standing by to assist customers and answer any questions. The bakery case was well stocked with pastries, cakes and pies. Any sweets needed for the Christmas morning breakfast feast ahead. Everything looked delicious. I was so captivated, I completely forgot to order the gin dui. ‍ The fried rice was so soft and very flavorful and the Portuguese sausage was perfectly cooked. Not burnt and not just "kissed" by the pan. The spam was a bit overdone, and a little crisp which is easy to do when cut thinly. I know to customize my breakfast order next time.

I tried the small Japanese restaurant inside, and it was quite good. The best part is that it stays open very late at night, which is perfect for night owls :-)

The chili and saimin are the best. Solid choices for anyone looking for some warm comfort food. The ube haupia pie did not have enough haupia and tasted almost completely like ube but was still overall good. Easy parking, consistent food, slow service, but still keeps me coming back time and time again.

This location is great. Dine in always has great service with friendly staff. Today I tried the chicken trio (garlic, fried, katsu). All very good. Maybe the rice a little hard today. But it was okay. Will not hold it against them. Always a go to place. Aloha

There nothing bad I can say about this place. This is my favorite Zippys on island. I love many items on the menu. The service is always friendly and helpful. The restaurant never feels dirty. The sushi bar is a nice touch. It feels like a place the entire family can go to. I loved the Wun Tun Min with a mini Korean fried plate. And Short Stack of pancakes. The pancakes were perfectly fluffy, syrupy and buttery. They even had a nice crisp to them. I'll definitely be back may more times.

This is one of my favorite Zippy's locations. Located in Kahala under the freeway, it is diagonally situated across from Kahala Mall on its mountain Ewa side. The food seems standardized across all Zippy's so there will be similar portions sizes and number of items in consistently sized containers. This Kahala Zippy's has 7 distinct areas: (1) Parking lot 1st floor (2) Parking lot 2nd floor (3) Japanese food dining area (4) Eating area (with restroom) (5) Ordering, take out counter for usual Zippy's foods (6) Bakery (7) Dining area (with restroom) PARKING - 2 floors: There is a medium-large parking lot under the building and additional much smaller parking area on the second floor. Access to the first floor parking lot is middle of the building on the East side while the upper second floor parking is accessed at the right side of the building also on the East side of the building. ENTRANCES - 2: 1st Floor - The entrance from the first floor parking lot faces the East middle area of the building. There is a stairwell and an elevator to the second floor. 2nd Floor - Likewise, the second floor parking lot entrance is at the building section facing that parking lot. DINING: Dining and ordering are located on the second floor. Japanese restaurant dining area - The Japanese food dining area serves Japanese food. There is an actual sushi chef who prepares delicious Japanese sushi! One can sit at the sushi counter or at a table. Sushi is served as sets or ala carte per sushi ingredient type (various fish varieties, shrimp, tamago egg, tempura, veggies, etc) and they also offer more mainstay Japanese meals like shrimp tempura and chicken or pork katsu, and Japanese bento meals in black lacquer boxes served with green tea, miso soup, and green salad. Although this is the Japanese food area, one can also order items from the regular Zippy's menu. Eating area - If you want to eat what you purchased from the take out area, this is the place to do it. There are many tables situated in rows and columns, and along the inside wall is the door to the restrooms. Ordering, take out counter - This is the main ordering area for all Zippy's foods. It's in the center across from the main entrance doors. Just walk right up to the counter, place your order, pay for it then, then wait on the opposite side of the ordering counter. When your order is ready, they will call the number associated with your receipt. Bakery - You can select from different varieties of sweets, from napples, to cakes, to pies, and croissant-type treats. Order at this counter. Dining area - Here you wait to be seated and can sit down to a hot fresh Zippy's meal. The portions may be a little different and all meals are served on plates and metal utensils as opposed to disposable ones are used here. They will give you water and napkins along with your order. And although this is the dining area for the usual Zippy's menu, you can also order from the Japanese restaurant dining area. A restroom is at back of the dining area closest to the kitchen. This Zippy's provides a variety of dining situations and includes Japanese foods which are one of my most food favorites! I just wish if anything that the Japanese restaurant would serve different types of Japanese curry dishes. I would order curry all the time!

Zippy's in Kahala is a fairly new location compared to orhers in the urban corridor. Across from Kuono Marketplace and Kahala Mall to the makai side, on the corner of Waialae and Hunakai, it is near where the old, haunted Waialae Drive-In Theatre was situated. Zippy's is a local's favorite seving local style plate lunches and it is a Hawaii owned restaurant chain since the 60's. Affordable, fast service, home of the OG chili, and sister company, Napoleon's Bakery. I got the Chili Loco Moco. It comes with a choice of rice, mac salad along with your choice of two eggs atop a Salisbury steak slathered in your choice of chili. Ordered via their proprietary app - customizable options - and picked up at the listed time...off by a couple of minutes but the wait time was still reasonable. Nostalgic, there are better chili than the original recipe...but it just stands the test of time. It was filling and a deal at $15. Grap a Napple...I did not on this occasion...and you have a fulll meal. Parking avaiable on street level and up the ramp...restaurant in on the second level; accessible via stairs or elevator from the street level.

Christmas stop is Zippy's... After our usual stop for Thanksgiving and Christmas which are major holidays that I'm lucky to have the day to myself it's usually going back home and chill but I though let's take that one step further and grab a bite and with many places that gives their staff the day off as well luckily Zippy's opens their doors for groups that needs catering items for pick up but for many folks to dine in as well. This Kahala location does have lots of parking and access to the restaurant by stairs or elevator makes it very easy and as many waited for dine in service we decided for the take out and enjoy our bites on many tables that are available to enjoy. Mom got the mini hamburger steak which was the saddest item unfortunately as the patty looks as small as the happy meal burger drenched in gravy topped with onions that was barely cooked and was just too raw that she didn't finish it and didn't want to even take it home sadly which made me really disappointed. Though I ordered the Fried Chicken Plate which came with two scoops of rice and a scoop of macaroni salad and three thigh pieces of hot and crispy fried chicken that they're so known for. Seasoning was a tad salty for me but feeling horrible for mom I gave her a piece which she enjoyed. It's nice to have a place for local comfort foods and here I'm grateful to the staff for doing their best though there are reasons I don't frequent very often and keep it simple as some of the menu options aren't recommended. Thank you!

Sunday July 27, 2025 I came here for dinner and decided to dine in the restaurant side. I don't eat breakfast or lunch on Sunday. So, I thought I would be really hungry! Chili Burrito plate as a complete meal of corn chowder, fruit punch and custard pie which I took home. Eyes bigger than the stomach. lol. The stomach is big. But, acted like it was small for today. lol. Service friendly and fast. Food is always good! That why, I always come here. Ambiance is very casual and very comfortable. I know, I will be back whether dine in as take out. I always support local restaurants and businesses.

Just purchased a slice of apple pie and slice of custard pie. Both looked like someone took a bite. Definitely not worth the money I paid

My husband and I love going to Zippy's--it's been a favorite of ours since childhood. Today, we decided to indulge in some comfort food that brings back fond memories. He ordered the mini loco moco, and I had the small wun tun min. Both dishes were delicious and satisfying--definitely glad we didn't go for the full-sized portions! While the restaurant was a bit understaffed, our waitress was amazing. She was constantly on the move but still managed to remember our order and even refilled my hot tea without being asked. Out of all the Zippy's locations I've visited, I have to say the Kahala one is my favorite. The staff is friendly, the place is clean, and it has a homey, comfortable vibe. You know it's good when you see so many senior citizens dining here!

    Zippy's current special!
    Lyn L.

The current special was shared in Facebook. Shrimp tempura with furikake salmon for $17.95. It was quite good! Too much for me to finish so I brought some salmon home. Tempura was light and crispy but by the end it got kind of oily. It was still pretty good all in all. The young server Reese was great! He had to bus the table, take order, serve, refill water and tea, all by himself.... And he was very pleasant! I recommend it!

This is specifically for the Sushi Menu. I came during lunch and I realized I have never been to this Zippys location before and so I knew I had to order off their Sushi Menu since I can get the Zippys menu at any other location. Restaurant is clean. Sushi dining area says it's closed until 5pm but they still serve sushi on the restaurant side. I ordered the Tempura Zaru and omg the tempura is SO GOOD. The batter was nice and flakey and not just a thick coating. Came out hot and fresh. I was a little disappointed the soba and tempura didn't come out at the same time bc by the time the tempura came, my dipping sauce was getting cold but it was still good regardless. My bf just got the ahi nigiri and presentation and slice size was nice. Overall, I was impressed by the sushi selection. However, the pricing threw me off.. I was a little surprised at how expensive some of the options were considering this is Zippys (unless the sushi is it's own separate vendor and just sells under the Zippys name so I understand). Quality was better than normal fast sushi places though so I guess it's valid. But yeah, for a fast casual place, don't expect the sushi to also be fast sushi prices. I'd come again!

It's a lot smaller, but they do have parking in a paid parking lot (card only), across the street for metered parking. My go-to is the "1950s burger" but this time the beef patty is smashed and has a char, crispy edge, which is so good. I'm pretty simple when it comes to burgers and this was great. However, since I ordered a single patty, it felt like the patty was sinking into the other ingredients in the burger. So next time, I'll order double patties. Fries: crinkled, hot and fresh, compliments burger really well and soft serve ice cream. Soft serve ice cream also good, it's what McDonald's vanilla cone wants to be, thick, not too sweet, and creamy. Doesn't melt as fast and you can dip your fries in it. Again, packaging is what sold me to chubbies/boarded up, it holds your burger really well, no matter how messy it can be, it still doesn't soak up or rip.

The staff was super nice about it and was able to accommodate us, with only a small request that we be out by 8pm since there was another big party with a reservation coming in. Absolutely reasonable. They sat us right away at three large tables, which gave us plenty of space for food and didn't force us to sit super close together. Menus, waters, plates, napkins, and forks were all brought out immediately, and our waiter was quick to take our order. We started with the prix fixe menu for 8-10 guests and were going to add other items à la carte, but a handful of our group accidentally went to the other Side Street location (make sure your group is all on the same page), so what we ordered ended up being more than enough. We left stuffed and with 5 boxes of food still. Edamame was nice and steamy, and large enough to easily pop the beans out with your mouth. Wish there was a bit more salt though. The farmer's salad had everything going on from citrusy to salty to crispy. Avocado had a little bit of oxidation but the capers, dressing and potato curls provided plenty of reasons to overlook it. The fried rice came in a hefty portion, with sizable pieces of bacon and sausage. The chicken I didn't realize was boneless based on the shape of the deep fry, but it was nice to freely bite into it without worrying about hitting anything with my teeth. Probably a bit too much on fried bits but still good. Pork chops had a better meat to crisp ratio in my opinion, as well as juiciness. They even came with ketchup on the side, which I love as a pairing but don't see much of at restaurants. My favorite meat item was definitely the sizzling boneless kalbi. The presentation on the sizzling plate with a side of kimchi was spectacular, and the meat was full of flavor. We also ordered yakisoba, which wasn't part of the prix fixe. Tasted good but nothing past standard expectations. We let the waiter know we had a 30th birthday at the table, and they brought a couple scoops of vanilla ice cream with a candle, and did a decent job getting the whole room to participate in the singing. It could also be the type of crowd this place attracts, since it seemed that everyone was so friendly and approachable. Thanks to the quick and consistent service, we were out in a little over an hour with no complaints.

Accompanied by a beautiful potato salad, collard greens, and a tasty piece of cornbread. I would order an entire pan of that cornbread if I could. And you should definitely get a side of that potato salad. My boyfriend enjoyed their mixed plate which had rib ribs and a few other items, but I was too concentrated on my food to care about what he was eating. We came around 6 PM on a Saturday night and were served our food just after 7 PM. We were incredibly lucky because while we were sitting at the counter, we saw numerous parties try to come in to dine in, and there was no space available. Takeout is always an option, but you still need to wait for your takeout so be patient, walk around to the Sake shop down the street and come back in an hour to pick up your piping hot food. Parking is extremely limited so pray to the parking gods that you score a stall in front of the restaurant or try your luck on the street and take a short walk down.

Prices also reasonable! Quality was superb, gravy on the kalo loco a little too salty for me but delish nonetheless! Cornbread a little over toasted for me, but the Lilikoi butter was bomb. I should've tried the pumpkin loaf instead. Pancakes were huge and though thin, melted in your mouth, Haupia sauce was yum! Service was excellent, always with a smile! And Chef Keaka greeted all of the patrons which was a treat as well. It's not just about the food/service but how it made you feel after you left. Thank you for a wonderful experience, I will be making reservations for the shower brunch soon!

The guava bar was delicious and flavorful and just crumbles in your mouth! Definitely one of the better guava bars I've tried. Love how crumbly it is. The salmon belly was delicious OMFG. It looks so simple and straightforward but that sht is so flavorful. It is crispy and yet soft on the inside. The salmon belly is cut into bite-sized pieces so I didn't have to worry about using a knife to cut it. I usually try salmon belly where it is usually seasoned lightly to bring out the natural flavor of the salmon, but Guava Smoked's salmon belly is just grilled in a way that makes the salmon sweet/crispy and still get traces of the salmon taste as well. It's definitely not your traditional Japanese-style way of cooking salmon belly but really just their own. I'd go back and get this again. Another thing too. I'd get this with beer. This would hit very hard with alcohol but because I don't drink I need a kombucha. The grilled salmon belly would go perfect with it. Cheers! Uncle was very helpful and kind when serving and if you dine-in he brings it to your table.

There is a dedicated parking lot behind the restaurant that is shared with the other businesses in the same building. When I walked into the restaurant at about 1pm on a Wednesday, I was surprised to find it almost empty. It's a pretty large space, so the lack of patrons was rather glaring. There was one person sitting at the counter facing the kitchen and one employee working. This was my very first visit to Guava Smoked so I asked the person at the counter what he recommends. He said the two most popular meats are the kalbi and the spicy pork. "Perfect!" I thought, because those were the two options I was eyeing. Unfortunately, they were out of kalbi that day. Bummer... Nothing else on the menu caught my eye, so I ordered a smoked spicy pork plate to go. The spicy pork was good. Did it blow my mind? I wouldn't say it did. But it was satisfying enough. Honestly, I really wish they had kalbi available when I went. Hopefully next time I stop in they will.

We ordered the New England clam chowder, garlic rib eye steak, and uncle Bo's seafood pasta. Clam chowder - first time from Uber Eats was pretty good, but the second time we ordered for dine-in was salty. Garlic rib eye steak - it was good but not like amazing. Portion was huge. The meat was tender and juicey. The sauce that came with it barely did anything to enhance the flavor and was quite bland. Comes with choice of rice, mashed potatoes, or thick cut fries and steamed assorted vegetables on the side. Uncle Bo's seafood pasta - it was a big plate, but I think this dish was the least favorite above the two. It's a creamy tomato sauce base, and it was very bland. Servers were nice and friendly. Our food came out pretty quick once our order was placed. We got lucky with street parking, but there's paid parking across the street.
