Wun Tun Min Mini Korean fried chicken plate
    Nick W.

This is my favorite Zippys location. The food is always good. There are so many amazing options. The Korean friend chicken plate with a won ton min is one of my go to orders. Even the pancakes are delicious and fluffy. The staff is so friendly and attentive. I will always come back here.

Zippy's Kahala is great. Loads of parking on two levels. Lower level is covered and there are stairs and an elevator to get customers upstairs. For a holiday, it was very easy to order snd pick up my breakfast order. I was a little worried I wouldn't find parking. Clearly posted signs for paid and unpaid phone order pick ups. Plenty of staff on standing by to assist customers and answer any questions. The bakery case was well stocked with pastries, cakes and pies. Any sweets needed for the Christmas morning breakfast feast ahead. Everything looked delicious. I was so captivated, I completely forgot to order the gin dui. ‍ The fried rice was so soft and very flavorful and the Portuguese sausage was perfectly cooked. Not burnt and not just "kissed" by the pan. The spam was a bit overdone, and a little crisp which is easy to do when cut thinly. I know to customize my breakfast order next time.

I saw a post where this lady mentioned her new favorite menu item was the lemon chicken. I love lemon chicken but it's so hard to find good lemon chicken. I used to love L&L but they kept overcooking the chicken. I had high hopes for Zippy's lemon chicken ($15.50) but was so disappointed. The pieces were fatty and not crispy; it's ok if they decided to make their version a non-crispy version, but this one seemed to be their Korean chicken without sauce. The worse part was the lemon sauce--was like a thick lemon gel cake frosting. I tried to eat the chicken nuggets with bbq sauce instead but the texture didnt work. There's just something amiss about it. None of my family members cared for it either, and it's hard for a chinese family to waste food. Also tried the turkey plate ($19.15). Turkey and gravy tasted okay but the stuffing was just mush. Guess nice not having to chew. Was disappointed in how little turkey there was for the price. May look like a lot, but they were small pieces--like the end or scraps. Also ordered the $9.99 spaghetti plate special which seemed to have only about 2/3 the amount than before. I need to try this order again to see if quantity really did decrease permanently. But on the plus side, tried the $15.95 Wrecking Crew pac which was a fun combo of chili, a chicken, Portuguese sausage, and a fish. This would be an awesome permanent addition to the menu. And as always, love the friendly staff.

I tried the small Japanese restaurant inside, and it was quite good. The best part is that it stays open very late at night, which is perfect for night owls :-)

The chili and saimin are the best. Solid choices for anyone looking for some warm comfort food. The ube haupia pie did not have enough haupia and tasted almost completely like ube but was still overall good. Easy parking, consistent food, slow service, but still keeps me coming back time and time again.

This location is great. Dine in always has great service with friendly staff. Today I tried the chicken trio (garlic, fried, katsu). All very good. Maybe the rice a little hard today. But it was okay. Will not hold it against them. Always a go to place. Aloha

This is one of my favorite Zippy's locations. Located in Kahala under the freeway, it is diagonally situated across from Kahala Mall on its mountain Ewa side. The food seems standardized across all Zippy's so there will be similar portions sizes and number of items in consistently sized containers. This Kahala Zippy's has 7 distinct areas: (1) Parking lot 1st floor (2) Parking lot 2nd floor (3) Japanese food dining area (4) Eating area (with restroom) (5) Ordering, take out counter for usual Zippy's foods (6) Bakery (7) Dining area (with restroom) PARKING - 2 floors: There is a medium-large parking lot under the building and additional much smaller parking area on the second floor. Access to the first floor parking lot is middle of the building on the East side while the upper second floor parking is accessed at the right side of the building also on the East side of the building. ENTRANCES - 2: 1st Floor - The entrance from the first floor parking lot faces the East middle area of the building. There is a stairwell and an elevator to the second floor. 2nd Floor - Likewise, the second floor parking lot entrance is at the building section facing that parking lot. DINING: Dining and ordering are located on the second floor. Japanese restaurant dining area - The Japanese food dining area serves Japanese food. There is an actual sushi chef who prepares delicious Japanese sushi! One can sit at the sushi counter or at a table. Sushi is served as sets or ala carte per sushi ingredient type (various fish varieties, shrimp, tamago egg, tempura, veggies, etc) and they also offer more mainstay Japanese meals like shrimp tempura and chicken or pork katsu, and Japanese bento meals in black lacquer boxes served with green tea, miso soup, and green salad. Although this is the Japanese food area, one can also order items from the regular Zippy's menu. Eating area - If you want to eat what you purchased from the take out area, this is the place to do it. There are many tables situated in rows and columns, and along the inside wall is the door to the restrooms. Ordering, take out counter - This is the main ordering area for all Zippy's foods. It's in the center across from the main entrance doors. Just walk right up to the counter, place your order, pay for it then, then wait on the opposite side of the ordering counter. When your order is ready, they will call the number associated with your receipt. Bakery - You can select from different varieties of sweets, from napples, to cakes, to pies, and croissant-type treats. Order at this counter. Dining area - Here you wait to be seated and can sit down to a hot fresh Zippy's meal. The portions may be a little different and all meals are served on plates and metal utensils as opposed to disposable ones are used here. They will give you water and napkins along with your order. And although this is the dining area for the usual Zippy's menu, you can also order from the Japanese restaurant dining area. A restroom is at back of the dining area closest to the kitchen. This Zippy's provides a variety of dining situations and includes Japanese foods which are one of my most food favorites! I just wish if anything that the Japanese restaurant would serve different types of Japanese curry dishes. I would order curry all the time!

Christmas stop is Zippy's... After our usual stop for Thanksgiving and Christmas which are major holidays that I'm lucky to have the day to myself it's usually going back home and chill but I though let's take that one step further and grab a bite and with many places that gives their staff the day off as well luckily Zippy's opens their doors for groups that needs catering items for pick up but for many folks to dine in as well. This Kahala location does have lots of parking and access to the restaurant by stairs or elevator makes it very easy and as many waited for dine in service we decided for the take out and enjoy our bites on many tables that are available to enjoy. Mom got the mini hamburger steak which was the saddest item unfortunately as the patty looks as small as the happy meal burger drenched in gravy topped with onions that was barely cooked and was just too raw that she didn't finish it and didn't want to even take it home sadly which made me really disappointed. Though I ordered the Fried Chicken Plate which came with two scoops of rice and a scoop of macaroni salad and three thigh pieces of hot and crispy fried chicken that they're so known for. Seasoning was a tad salty for me but feeling horrible for mom I gave her a piece which she enjoyed. It's nice to have a place for local comfort foods and here I'm grateful to the staff for doing their best though there are reasons I don't frequent very often and keep it simple as some of the menu options aren't recommended. Thank you!

Sunday July 27, 2025 I came here for dinner and decided to dine in the restaurant side. I don't eat breakfast or lunch on Sunday. So, I thought I would be really hungry! Chili Burrito plate as a complete meal of corn chowder, fruit punch and custard pie which I took home. Eyes bigger than the stomach. lol. The stomach is big. But, acted like it was small for today. lol. Service friendly and fast. Food is always good! That why, I always come here. Ambiance is very casual and very comfortable. I know, I will be back whether dine in as take out. I always support local restaurants and businesses.

My husband and I love going to Zippy's--it's been a favorite of ours since childhood. Today, we decided to indulge in some comfort food that brings back fond memories. He ordered the mini loco moco, and I had the small wun tun min. Both dishes were delicious and satisfying--definitely glad we didn't go for the full-sized portions! While the restaurant was a bit understaffed, our waitress was amazing. She was constantly on the move but still managed to remember our order and even refilled my hot tea without being asked. Out of all the Zippy's locations I've visited, I have to say the Kahala one is my favorite. The staff is friendly, the place is clean, and it has a homey, comfortable vibe. You know it's good when you see so many senior citizens dining here!

Just purchased a slice of apple pie and slice of custard pie. Both looked like someone took a bite. Definitely not worth the money I paid

    Zippy's current special!
    Lyn L.

The current special was shared in Facebook. Shrimp tempura with furikake salmon for $17.95. It was quite good! Too much for me to finish so I brought some salmon home. Tempura was light and crispy but by the end it got kind of oily. It was still pretty good all in all. The young server Reese was great! He had to bus the table, take order, serve, refill water and tea, all by himself.... And he was very pleasant! I recommend it!

This is specifically for the Sushi Menu. I came during lunch and I realized I have never been to this Zippys location before and so I knew I had to order off their Sushi Menu since I can get the Zippys menu at any other location. Restaurant is clean. Sushi dining area says it's closed until 5pm but they still serve sushi on the restaurant side. I ordered the Tempura Zaru and omg the tempura is SO GOOD. The batter was nice and flakey and not just a thick coating. Came out hot and fresh. I was a little disappointed the soba and tempura didn't come out at the same time bc by the time the tempura came, my dipping sauce was getting cold but it was still good regardless. My bf just got the ahi nigiri and presentation and slice size was nice. Overall, I was impressed by the sushi selection. However, the pricing threw me off.. I was a little surprised at how expensive some of the options were considering this is Zippys (unless the sushi is it's own separate vendor and just sells under the Zippys name so I understand). Quality was better than normal fast sushi places though so I guess it's valid. But yeah, for a fast casual place, don't expect the sushi to also be fast sushi prices. I'd come again!

I was in the area with a couple of friends, who wanted to go to dinner. I suggested Vietnamese since there was a handful in the immediate area but one said let's go to the new burger joint. I'm like okay. We arrived here on a recent weekend in June 2026. The place wasn't too crowded and it was kind of buzzing. The place was as I remember it as a ramen place back in the early 2000's, but has been remodeled to serve the burger and fries loving community here in Kaimuki. We took our time and enjoyed the ambiance. It was a nice and simple experience here. If you want the alternative to the familiar, consider coming to Boarded Up by Chubby's Burgers in Kaimuki. While the ambiance could be a little better, the food was a hit and delicious at the same time. It was nostalgic to be in this place since it's been a while since I was here when it used to be a ramen place before it became a burger joint in Kaimuki. My friends and I decided to dine in and enjoy the evening. We all ordered a burger combo and it came with fries and a drink, the normal tradition of fast food. I ended up getting the Carolina onion burger with double patties and the spicy garlic fries. The tab was over $20 but for the first time, it was worth it for sure. It can get pricey for burgers and fries, but if you love double patty burgers, you're going to love having one here at Boarded Up by Chubby's burgers Kaimuki. My friends and I spent about 1 1/2 hours here eating and chilling afterwards. I ended up grabbing a milkshake to go, which was almost $10. The end result was delicious and very calorie dense. It was definitely a cheat meal and to celebrate a friend's birthday. The overall experience here at Boarded Up by Chubby's burger's Kaimuki was very good and quite the nostalgic piece because I've been here before Boarded Up took over the space and remodeled it as their own. The restaurant was very small as I remember it, boasting a bunch of tables in a limited space. The vibe was okay but the food was good. The service was quite good and friendly. They make everything made to order so you'd have to wait a good amount of time before you can eat. The restaurant itself is clean and easy to get to. The milkshake at the end was delicious as an after dinner drink to cap off a birthday celebration. For the most part though, having this new burger joint was good and a welcomed addition into the Kaimuki business ohana. If you are ever looking for an authentic alternative to the usual suspects and in the Kaimuki area, consider coming to this heavenly place where you can get in your burger fix for a reasonable price. While these burgers can be a bit pricey, you can be sure they are good and delicious which is the ideal set up. Everything is good here and definitely worth a try and sample. Make Kaimuki your destination here on Oahu and come on over to taste the delicious difference. The Carolina onion burger is pretty amazing and hope you will try that too. Ask for extra onions. Boarded Up by Chubby's Burgers is located in the Kaimuki district of Honolulu, Hi. It's physically located at 1108 12th Avenue next to the gas station on Harding Avenue. It's a stand alone building. They accept major credit cards as well as cash. As far as parking goes, there's a paid municipal lot right adjacent to the restaurant for the area's businesses. Quite nice for sure or you can find residential street parking nearby where you can find it. If you are like me, a few bus routes stop near the area. Namely, routes 1, 1L, 14, and 7. The popular bus stops runs along Koko Head Avenue and Waialae Avenues. Then there's always Uber and Lyft that can be the one that will get you here to where you need to be. And so, come here and come hungry. It's one of the best hidden gems in Kaimuki town. 5.0 stars for the overall experience even tho the ambiance is okay. Support local! A+

If you're visiting Hawaii with a big group, 100% recommend taking them here…read more We initially were a party of 16, and showed up without a reservation at 6pm on a Saturday. The staff was super nice about it and was able to accommodate us, with only a small request that we be out by 8pm since there was another big party with a reservation coming in. Absolutely reasonable. They sat us right away at three large tables, which gave us plenty of space for food and didn't force us to sit super close together. Menus, waters, plates, napkins, and forks were all brought out immediately, and our waiter was quick to take our order. We started with the prix fixe menu for 8-10 guests and were going to add other items à la carte, but a handful of our group accidentally went to the other Side Street location (make sure your group is all on the same page), so what we ordered ended up being more than enough. We left stuffed and with 5 boxes of food still. Edamame was nice and steamy, and large enough to easily pop the beans out with your mouth. Wish there was a bit more salt though. The farmer's salad had everything going on from citrusy to salty to crispy. Avocado had a little bit of oxidation but the capers, dressing and potato curls provided plenty of reasons to overlook it. The fried rice came in a hefty portion, with sizable pieces of bacon and sausage. The chicken I didn't realize was boneless based on the shape of the deep fry, but it was nice to freely bite into it without worrying about hitting anything with my teeth. Probably a bit too much on fried bits but still good. Pork chops had a better meat to crisp ratio in my opinion, as well as juiciness. They even came with ketchup on the side, which I love as a pairing but don't see much of at restaurants. My favorite meat item was definitely the sizzling boneless kalbi. The presentation on the sizzling plate with a side of kimchi was spectacular, and the meat was full of flavor. We also ordered yakisoba, which wasn't part of the prix fixe. Tasted good but nothing past standard expectations. We let the waiter know we had a 30th birthday at the table, and they brought a couple scoops of vanilla ice cream with a candle, and did a decent job getting the whole room to participate in the singing. It could also be the type of crowd this place attracts, since it seemed that everyone was so friendly and approachable. Thanks to the quick and consistent service, we were out in a little over an hour with no complaints.

It got a bit loud at times but we were still able to talk. The waitress was pretty attentive to us with refills on our drinks which was nice. The food was good tasting, especially the pork chop and garlic chicken. We ordered the family set that was able to feed 4-6 people that was the perfect amount. Parking at this location is a little tough. They offer valet or you can find street parking or there's a tiny garage lot that you can pay for. Overall a good experience.

I remember Colin used to be the "kitchen mama" in one of the local bars Colin opened Side Street Inn on Hopaka Street, then a small (and I mean SMALL) little local bar with delicious local style foods Colin expanded the Hopaka street location but it was not enough.... Then Colin opens the Kapahulu location .... Then receives an award for great chef Then expanded further the Hopaka location and all the while.... His original fried rice and pork chops remain top of the list Yes, the menu has expanded, and the flavors remained very "local" Yes, it is pricey as today, there is no food dish that price is less than $20. This is a family style dining restaurant. For example. The original fried rice $26 feeds six people. Go figure! I won't beat this thing to death and will end it by saying Colin will always be missed, his food remains still same and tasty as he had designed it to be. Staff friendly as ever. Price? I've always been a believer that you get what you pay for and then some. Side street Inn is the epitome of you get what you pay for and then some Go there or be square

The dish, despite sounding quite heavy, turned out to be quite light and balanced. The kimchi tempura was a beautiful add on to the loco moco to add texture and lightness to the dish. Would recommend anyone who comes here to try this. Service was fast and good as well.

The menu boasts unique & well-executed twists on your familiar breakfast items. Their Specials menu also seem to change everyday. I ordered the Breakfast Congee, my boyfriend ordered the Koko Moco, and we had the Strata from their Daily Specials, to share. Breakfast Congee: 9/10. Comforting and yummy. I wasn't expecting that all of the toppings would mix well together and elevate the seemingly simple taste of congee. I could taste a bit of spice due to the chili oil, which added to the combination of many other flavors. I needed something comforting in the morning so it really hit the spot. Koko Moco: pretty good in terms of the taste but the portion was a little smaller than expected, but we had the Strata to share and felt satisfied after having that. Strata: Reading the description on the menu sounded very interesting, but all the ingredients really blended well together! I found myself eating the congee and strata alternately during our meal. Although there was a bit of a wait for the food to arrive (it was a busy Friday morning with a 25-40 minute wait to be seated), the service was great and the staff were attentive to our needs. Ample parking at the Kaimuki Municipal Lot with entrances by 12th Avenue.

As someone who used to work in the industry, I know its very difficult to get the first turn out by 7 so I was surprised they had the time option open in the first place. No big deal, it was a really busy night and the chef sent out croquettes as an apology for the wait. Our server was really nice and went over all the menus, there were three, fathers day specials, prefix tasting menu and normal everyday menu. My mom chose the prefix because it came with a calamansi key lime pie option for desert and she absolutely needed it. My dad and brothers ordered off the main menu, and I order off the specials. So we really did get quiet the variety. Overall the food was very creative. But the espresso martini stole the show for me. and the mud pie desert tasted exactly like my martini! SO YUM! I would note that the space could use better airflow since the kitchen is open, or request to sit away on the opposite side of the restaurant if you are sensitive.

The guava bar was delicious and flavorful and just crumbles in your mouth! Definitely one of the better guava bars I've tried. Love how crumbly it is. The salmon belly was delicious OMFG. It looks so simple and straightforward but that sht is so flavorful. It is crispy and yet soft on the inside. The salmon belly is cut into bite-sized pieces so I didn't have to worry about using a knife to cut it. I usually try salmon belly where it is usually seasoned lightly to bring out the natural flavor of the salmon, but Guava Smoked's salmon belly is just grilled in a way that makes the salmon sweet/crispy and still get traces of the salmon taste as well. It's definitely not your traditional Japanese-style way of cooking salmon belly but really just their own. I'd go back and get this again. Another thing too. I'd get this with beer. This would hit very hard with alcohol but because I don't drink I need a kombucha. The grilled salmon belly would go perfect with it. Cheers! Uncle was very helpful and kind when serving and if you dine-in he brings it to your table.

What a fun place to have a little celebration!…read more Uncle Bo's Kapahulu has been on my "want to go" list for quite some time. My reluctance to go town has been quite the barrier, but I had no excuse this time. We were celebrating my niecey-poo's birthday, and this is where she wanted to go. I'm glad she did. We had a party of 18. If there is 10+ in your group, you have the option of Chef's Choice, which is a gluttonous feast. It's $39.95 for adults, $19.95 for keiki under 4 feet tall. My mini sister-in-law just barely disqualified for keiki pricing LOL Despite the roaring crowd of 20-somethings, our server was super attentive. My brother mumbled something about sauce, and our server who was headed to the kitchen, backtracked and asked my brother if he wanted sriracha. Just wow, cuz I was sitting across from my brother and didn't hear anything hahahaaa. I tend to tune him out though...sorry bro. Public parking across the street, payable by QR code.

The AC seems to be down and only the fans were working. We ordered little bit of the popular items and a couple of items on their happy hour menu. Boca Rota: The cheesy garlic bread was good. Very cheesy and the bread was nicely toasted. The prime rib however was disappointing. It was very dry and tasted old. We didn't finish the meat. Uncle Bo's Dynamite Shrimp: The shrimp were like those tiny shrimp you would find at a frozen section of a grocery store. The dynamite sauce was pretty good. The parmesan crust gives a little texture to it. Spinach Artichoke Dip: This was not good. This lack any flavor or seasoning. It tasted off. The wonton chips on the side were good. Baked Fresh Fish Mauna Kea: The fish they used was monchong. It was pretty good. The fish was fresh. The baked crust/sauce on the fish was the same as the one used for the dynamite shrimp. The mashed potatoes were very good. Garlicky and flavorful. The two shrimps on top were good. Firm and bouncy, definitely a different type of shrimp than the ones used for the dynamite shrimp. Uncle Bo's Seafood Catch: The linguine pasta was cooked perfectly. The sauce they used was a creamy tomato sauce which reminded me of the pan roast sauce. It was very good and tasty. The seafoods were fresh and cooked perfectly. This was our favorite dish. Hobo's: The taro beignets were cooked hot and fresh. Super soft and moist. It goes so well with the vanilla ice cream and their honey sauce. Perfect dessert to end the meal. Overall, some dishes were a hit and a miss. It did lack quality and flavor compared to the last time I visited. The portions were large. Us, with a party of 2, had a lot of leftovers. The service was good. Very friendly.
