    Braised beef bowl with guacamole
    Kylie S.

Ordered delivery from here a few weeks ago, I had the braised beef bowl + guacamole. It was good! Also had a side of chips and guac which was yummy. One of my coworkers was missing his Mexican brownie that he ordered and another burrito was completely missing, but this was probably an error on Doordash's behalf.

The parking lot is a little stressful on a pretty busy intersection but there's quite a few stalls. I finally got a chance to stop in to this cute place. The employees were friendly and I was pleasantly surprised I could get a Modelo with my grilled steak salad. It came with lettuce and black beans and salsa. I upgraded and got a scoop of guacamole. [[HIGHLIGHT]]There are a few tables inside to eat at and they seemed to have a lot of take out orders.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] Salad was good but I wasn't too impressed. Maybe ill go and try something else next time.

Saw this place had a happy hour; so I was super excited. Thinking to myself some queso and chips or appetizers and a margarita sounds delicious. [[HIGHLIGHT]]Heard mexican music playing, was getting in the spirit.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] [[HIGHLIGHT]]Walked up steps to the next level only to be disappointed, it was just like a chipotle.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] [[HIGHLIGHT]]I thought this originally was more like a legit mexican restaurant.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] I looked around and decided I didn't want any food; and we'll just get one drink each and then take off. It was kinda expensive still for it being happy hour. [[HIGHLIGHT]]I think we were some of the oldest people here; seems like more of a hangout for teens or families.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]]

Steak bowl with only 1 scoop of rice and lettuce added - yum. Good serving for $14.

I'm not sure why this place has poor reviews - maybe it depends on the day. Our server was nice, food was fast and tasty, and the prices were not unreasonable for Honolulu Mexican - I've certainly paid more here for less good food and smaller portions. The steak (nice char), carnitas (more like kalua pork but still tasty), and fish (grilled nicely, not like some of the other posts) were all actually better than I expected to be honest. There are two rice choices and two bean choices and although simple, I appreciate that they weren't over salted - flavor comes from the protein and ample choice of freshly made salsas. Total was $84 post tip for 4 meals (plus 1 churros) but we're full and this is just what it costs for a lunch out these days. Honolulu is pretty underwhelming for Mexican and this may be the best I've found. I would skip the churros next time though as they were overfried and greasy.

I got the grilled steak bowl as I'm not a fan of tortilla wraps. The bowl was pretty huge and had a good assortment of ingredients. I got the Spanish rice with black beans and grilled steak. It was topped with lettuce and sour cream. I added a side of guacamole. Everything tasted great together. The bowl was full of different flavors. The steak was seasoned with chipotle. There was a lot of gristle in the steak however. They do state that they use free-range grass fed beef. I washed it down with a pineapple Jarritos drink. Those sodas are so good and very carbonated.

Today I have tried the chicken burrito and the food was so fresh and healthy. The ingredients were fresh and I felt really good after eating and it was very tasty. The service was great, they were so helpful and friendly.

25% off Kamaaina Thursdays! Called to see if they still offer their 25% off Thursdays. A very friendly worker answered to inform me they offer it for walk ins only. Decided to make my way over for lunch. Initially I saw some poor reviews and thought that some might be mixed up with their Waikiki location. The service at their Kaimuki location is quite friendly and efficient. The food is decent. I ordered the bowl with half steak half braised beef. Added guacamole and an extra salsa, along with a combo of chips, salsa, and can juice($4). The braised beef has more flavor than the steak, steak was dry and tasted overly smoky. Their medium salsa isn't very spicy at all, I'd probably get spicy next time. It was about $17 with the 25% off. The bowl was huge especially with the additional chips. There is parking available but the lot is quite small and can fill up fast. [[HIGHLIGHT]]There are tables available to dine in.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]]

I ordered a burrito with steak and there is absolutely no meat in my burrito. Whoever made the burrito forgot the steak and it's really disappointing as I absolutely hate leaving bad reviews. I placed an order at the Kaimuki location around 8:20 PM and by the time I got back home with my order, it was 9 PM and the Kaimuki was already closed so I couldn't go back.

But we were looking for something different, quick, and tasty. That's what we got at K-Mex HI although to be quite frank - the parking lot here is terrible! Mostly due to their location in the middle of the street with a handful of street parking locations shared with multiple other businesses down the lane. It took us 3 rounds of driving before we ended up deciding it was better to drop me off to order and pick up the food and have my man drive around into another larger parking lot to wait the 15-ish minutes it would take for our food to be ready. The owners were so nice. Answering all of my insistent questions, smiling when I ended up ordering something different from what they recommended on the menu (my bad - it's a question I ask all businesses even though I usually decide what I want beforehand LOL). They asked if I needed a bag, if I needed utensils and napkins, and even checked in on me while they made the food! Awesome service and I'm sure it would be the same if we decided to eat in. I liked the atmosphere. It was small but homely, clean, and there were a few small fish tanks in the corner! 15-ish minutes later, food packed up - I jumped back in the car and we drove down to South Shore Market in Ward to eat at the tables and take a glance if Ocean Taste's line was... long (it was). And let me tell you... the food? Delicious. The amount of food? Good for the price! And overall pretty darn great experience. I wasn't the biggest fan of the spicy pork (not my preference). But my fiancé liked it and his only comment was that it was a bit greasy for his liking. Reminded him he was in-fact eating spicy pork which is normally served on his plate lunch in a piece of tinfoil so the oil doesn't get everywhere! The carne asada was super delish along with the gochujang hot sauce cups we found at the bottom of the bag. I'd get K-Mex HI again if I was in the area but I'd love to see them in another location where I can more easily park!
