    La Birria Tacos & Burrito
    Ivy M.

This place hit all of our Mexican Cravings! Its a small place with a few tables inside and out. The street parking is a bit tricky too. It's like hitting the lottery if you find a parking spot in the front. As for the food, the Birria Tacos are legit. Authentic and Saucy. The burrito was a HUGE creation. Filled to the max with all the best ingredients. We definitely did not leave hungry.

Came here for lunch on a weekday and the service was fast and polite! Decent amount of seating inside with a few seats outside. I ordered the works taco plate which comes with a side of chips & salsa and a drink (not pictured). I ordered the chicken, pork belly, and birria tacos. They were all delicious and loaded up with plenty of meat, but the pork belly one especially surprised me. It was so tender and fatty and crispy, some of the best pork belly I've had in a while. The rice and beans were standard. Definitely pretty authentic Mexican food and great spot for a lunch break!

Accidentally put 12:45 instead of 11:45 but I did mention same as the first one which was 11:45.

Decided to give them another shot since I work close. And thank goodness finally no cilantro was in my food. I got the 3 tacos. Only thing I will say is they don't give the option to select more than one option twice when ordering the 3 tacos so I got called saying I only selected 2. I got 2 pork belly and 1 carnitas. Both were good. I like the pickled onions and how they are generously filled. I coulda swore they used to give 2 tortillas with the tacos but now they only give one.

These are special items only. It was A chili Verde tostada and corn ribs with Cotija cheese.

Some of the best Mexican food I have ever had. And the staff is incredible if I do say so myself.

First visit in awhile. I am now a vegetarian so the options are more limited. I had the elote which was a bit average. It needed slathers of mayo as it was a bit dry. Veggie taco featured strips of Portobello mushrooms and was okay but not sure that I would order again.

Came back with my fiancé after I've been raving about this place to him ever since I first tried it. He loved it and said it was the best tacos he's ever had. We ordered 2 pork belly tacos, 1 steak taco, and the "Birria Works" which came with rice, beans, chips, salsa, and a drink. The pork belly tacos are to die for. The skin is extremely crispy while the meat is so soft and juicy, and it is topped with pickled onions and cilantro which enhance the flavor. The steak taco was very good as well as it was came with a nice, refreshing pico de gallo. Finally, the birria tacos was a great "bang for your buck" meal. The meat was very tender and flavorful...and it was very packed. The shell was super cheesy and crispy, and the consome tied it all together. The rice and beans were a nice side while the chips and salsa was a tasty appetizer. To top it off, we got the Jamaica agua fresca as our drink and it was delicious. It had a nice fruity, refreshing taste with a hint of cinnamon. Overall, we rate this experience a 10/10. The food was amazing and the staff was very friendly, we'll definitely be coming back.

So haven't been to TAQUERIA LA MAREA in a while. The food is great as always and I got the Taco Sampler (6 tacos) $24.00 Something new for me was that it didn't come with salsa and I had to pay extra for Habanero x 3 $1.50 And there is a Credit card surcharge (3.0%)

What an amazing hidden gem! Tucked away in Kalihi is probably the best taco spot on the island. I almost want to gate-keep. Parking is a little difficult, but not impossible and definitely worth it. The service was so incredibly friendly and helpful. I ordered the chips and salsa, some tacos, and my friend got the Vampire Tacos. The price point was super reasonable and for the taste- I could not complain. The vampire tacos (which I definitely stole from my friend) were my favorite part of the meal. Although, my 3 taco plate was also an amazing feast.

3 tacos (carne asada, carnitas, pollo) - delicious!

Now these are real street tacos! Flavorful, juicy, and delicious. I was able to try them when they were at a festival recently. Haven't had the chance to visit them in their storefront though. Service was very friendly and nice! I would come visit to try their other items in the future.

Originally wanted the bfast burrito that was on special but they had run out Got chicken tacos instead Lots of filling and very tasty. Messy though so you definitely need napkins. They have a couple of tables inside and some on the outside. It gets really windy though so make sure you hold onto your filling and napkins. I think the worst thing about the place is parking. You have to get lucky or walk really far. Luckily for us we just walked down the street from work. If you like street tacos id recommend this place. Their burritos are huge too. If you're looking for something "healthier" like a salad, then youre out of luck.

Our son ordered the nachos appetizer as his main meal, my husband got the Mexico burrito, and I ordered the carnitas plate. I tried a bit of everyone's food, and honestly, we had zero complaints. Every dish was packed with flavor and cooked to perfection. The meat was tender, not overly salty or chewy at all. The guacamole was even creamy! To put the value into perspective: a few days earlier, I bought three carne asada tacos with very little meat from a food court in Waikiki, and they were only a few dollars cheaper than my entire, massive plate here. The pricing is incredible for the generous portions you get, making it a great budget friendly option compared to everywhere else we ate while visiting Honolulu. My husband even noted that he had never had Mexican food this good in the States especially considering Honolulu is so far from the border! He rarely raves about restaurants, so the fact that he's already talking about coming back makes this place an absolute must try.

Most of the afternoon crowd seemed to know each other, which gives the place a comfortable neighborhood feel. That said, the inside is a little dingy and could probably use a renovation. The issue on this visit was the service. When we got there, it was pretty empty, maybe 4 or 5 people sitting at the bar. The guy working behind the bar seated us, but then never brought menus, never brought water, and never came back to take our order. When my friend tried waving him down, he ignored us. Eventually another employee came in, and the bartender just told him, "Go take his order," without acknowledging us at all. I don't know if he was only working the bar that day, but he could have at least brought water, menus, or simply said someone would be right with us. Instead, the whole interaction came across as dismissive and unnecessary. Food was very good as always, but service matters too. Based on this visit, I'd call it 3 stars overall.

But we were looking for something different, quick, and tasty. That's what we got at K-Mex HI although to be quite frank - the parking lot here is terrible! Mostly due to their location in the middle of the street with a handful of street parking locations shared with multiple other businesses down the lane. It took us 3 rounds of driving before we ended up deciding it was better to drop me off to order and pick up the food and have my man drive around into another larger parking lot to wait the 15-ish minutes it would take for our food to be ready. The owners were so nice. Answering all of my insistent questions, smiling when I ended up ordering something different from what they recommended on the menu (my bad - it's a question I ask all businesses even though I usually decide what I want beforehand LOL). They asked if I needed a bag, if I needed utensils and napkins, and even checked in on me while they made the food! Awesome service and I'm sure it would be the same if we decided to eat in. I liked the atmosphere. It was small but homely, clean, and there were a few small fish tanks in the corner! 15-ish minutes later, food packed up - I jumped back in the car and we drove down to South Shore Market in Ward to eat at the tables and take a glance if Ocean Taste's line was... long (it was). And let me tell you... the food? Delicious. The amount of food? Good for the price! And overall pretty darn great experience. I wasn't the biggest fan of the spicy pork (not my preference). But my fiancé liked it and his only comment was that it was a bit greasy for his liking. Reminded him he was in-fact eating spicy pork which is normally served on his plate lunch in a piece of tinfoil so the oil doesn't get everywhere! The carne asada was super delish along with the gochujang hot sauce cups we found at the bottom of the bag. I'd get K-Mex HI again if I was in the area but I'd love to see them in another location where I can more easily park!
