We came after doing yard work in the sun and I didn't realize how hungry I was that we finished 2 baskets of chips and salsa and all of my Fajita Salad, which was delicious and enough for a hungry gal like me. The owner has a great story - the vibe in this place is 5/5. The sculptures and amazing sayings along the wall - with the waiters being super friendly. The food is incredible! The sauces are awesome. It was a little disappointing to see that the sauces on the side were being charged from $3 to $5. My fav dish was the garlic shrimp with the Diablo sauce. Super spicy and tasty. A lot of locals were eating here - which means you know it's good food. The local is a strip mall - the decor is very ethnic and the owner believes in God and doing the right things. I walked in and ordered take out. Repeated the order 3 times and asked the young lady does she got my order? I was told yes over and over but to my surprise, the order was made incorrect. I am not sure what to think at this point because I also tried to call the location 3 times so they can be aware of the situation. (Called Incase I got someone else's order) but no answer. I came here on a weekday for dinner and we had to wait about 15 minutes for a seat. Once seated they provided us complimentary chips and salsa which was delicious. The chips were thin and crunchy and salsa so tasty. I ordered the veggie burrito, which was unique since they had baby corn. It came with black beans and rice. Chili Relleno is the best Mexican restaurant in Kaneohe. Started off with their complimentary crispy chips that were not oily and homemade salsa that had some good heat. I loved the flavor of the salsa so much that I slathered is on my grande burrito and didn't need to ask for some Tapatio sauce. The grande sopes also hit the spot. The hand painted decor and art really make this restaurant interesting to look at, but the service is king here. We went here for dinner on a Thursday night and wondered why this place was packed and we had to wait. Bring from Los Angeles I did not expect to be wowed. Started off with the chips and salsa and noted the chips were not that great but the salsa had a good flavor. I ordered the carnitas plate and asked them to make it extra crispy as I love the texture. When I tasted the food and was very surprised how good it was. The rice and beans were great and overall ever tasted good. They also gave you a generous portion. It is just a cheese relleno topped with shredded chicken. Came out PIPING hot which was nice. Definitely missed the gooey cheese pull that you usually get from a relleno! I ordered the carne asada chile relleno, the california burrito, and horchata for pickup. They were quick and efficient in taking my order and gave me an accurate time of when my food would be ready. Once I arrived they promptly got my order ready and I was not missing anything. They are located in a shopping center but were easy to find. The inside was standard for your typical Mexican restaurant but the kitchen is open and partially viewable from the dining room which was pretty neat. Both items were delicious and well prepared. Horchatas can make or break a Mexican restaurant for me and this one was really good. A little less ice would've made it perfect for me. Chile Relleno is a clean well decorated restaurant with friendly staff and great food. The chips and salsa is free and you can easily get filled just eating that. You can go wrong with what you're craving. The Chile Relleno with carnitas is excellent. So much flavor. You can sub the refried beans for black beans if you want. But it's soooo filling.! The restaurant was packed during the lunch hour, but we didn't have to wait more than 5 minutes for a table for 3. Chile Relleno is a cozy place smack dab in the center of the shopping center. There's plenty of parking, even when the center is at its busiest, though you may have to park a few rows away- it's ok, just means you'll get to enjoy the amazing view for a few more moments as you walk back to your car. The restaurant often has a short wait, so be prepared to give them your name and stand outside until they have a table for you. I promise the wait is worthwhile. My son always orders the Carnitas, as he loves the texture of the juicy pork and the flavor is hard to beat. I skip all over the menu, trying something new each time. I've enjoyed everything, but would probably pick their street tacos as my favorite. They are nicely filled with your choice of protein and are the standard Tuesday special. We never skip the horchata, and in fact each order our own small pitcher, which they happily serve with a straw. We tried the Carne Asada, medium rare plate and the pork carnitas. The carne asada was delicious. So tender and juicy, cooked to perfection. Portions were large and the steak wasn't cut up which is why it stayed tender. Normally never get this since steak is well done, but this was definitely worth getting. So glad we did! Now after trying a few different spots on the island, we can absolutely say this is our favorite. Toco Tuesday and Thursday gets you amazing street tacos. Street tacos are smaller than normal tacos, so get 4-5 per person. Carnitas and chorizo are my favorite! The taco salad with ground beef is also my go to. Well seasoned ground beef! Not greasy. Nice crispy shell. And the kicker. The mama Mia sauce! It's a chipotle cream sauce that is good on everything! It's a small place, with three six person tables, three two person tables and a handful of booths. It gets busy! Don't expect to come on a Friday night and not have a wait. I am a fan of their food it is good. I usually get it to go. Today I went in and ordered a traditional burrito. They charged me 23.40 for using cash. I gave her 40 he handed me 16 dollars and said thank you. I don't know if they know how to count or if they expect us not to notice. But she didn't give me the 60 cents. This is not the first time it has happened. That is called theft. I used to work in restaurants for a long time and tips were extra for on top of however much you got paid I don't know what's going on but if this is how they're gonna get tips, it's the wrong way to do it. I don't know how this place has such good reviews. When I first ate here 8 years ago, service was the main problem. I recently purchased takeout/delivery thinking maybe if we remove the "service" factor, the rest would be fine. Boy, was I wrong. My sister was hungry for Mexican and I thought I'd get her a treat. We have never had such tasteless food in our lives. I'm not just talking Mexican food, I'm talking ALL food. Now, I get that takeout is not the same experience as dining in, and the food may not taste as good. However, it wasn't just an issue of the food being cold, or dry (which it was), it had absolutely no flavor. I ordered a few plates thinking that I could use any leftovers for lunch the next day. My sister took two bites of her plate, promptly closed it and said she'd pay me back for the plate, as she was just going to throw it away. It was that bad, and we are not in the habit of wasting food. My plate was just as bad. Devoid of any flavor and dry as the Sahara. How can fatty pork be dry? Luckily, I had ordered a standby enchilada in case my sister didn't like her burrito. She ate it, but said it was only marginally better. It's tough to mess up a tortilla filled with meat and slathered in sauce and cheese. I guess I've learned my lesson. If I don't want to throw away money, don't eat here. read more

Seemed like a hole in the wall and glad could make it here during our Byodo temple visit . Loved the ambiance and felt quite authentic with the Mexican decor . The complimentary tortilla chips were something different - very fine and seemed like made from lentils but actually they were made from corn . We just hogged it down until our main course arrived . We had different Fajitas sea food and chicken . Both were fantastic and generous proportions + flavorful . Immediately when we walked in the vibe of the restaurant was unmatched, the artwork, music, and atmosphere was just beautiful. Kaylie was our server, she was very attentive, so sweet, and made our experience the overall 5 stars it deserved. The salsa was the best I ever had, very fresh.
