Hot New Business in Pauoa, Honolulu, Hawaii... Open Mondays through Saturdays from 11am to 7:30pm, Alejandro's Mexican Food finally started to feed its loyal customers on Monday, February 16, 2026. Alejandro's first location is deep in Kalihi Valley and it's still thriving. We had a small party there with friends a while ago... Alejandro branched out to Kapahulu where I got ROTD (Review of the Day) many years ago. Unfortunately, that location closed down. The third location is in Pearl City - I still need to go there... This fourth location is in a quiet neighborhood. It took the place of Pauoa Chop Suey, on the corner of Pauoa Road and Pacific Heights Road. Service is super welcoming, helpful, and friendly! Alejandro is such a wonderful, gregarious person! You can't help but like him instantly... his smile and Aloha Spirit are infectious! The environment is like heaven if you're a Dodgers and/or Lakers fan! Check out the murals and take a photo with your favorite star! Note the stickers on the backs of the chairs... RIP Kobe! Of course, the food is authentic Mexican! I had the #2 Taco Combination Plate: chicken, pork (carnitas), and steak (carne asada) that comes with a drink! I got a refreshing horchata which is cinnamon and rice water - it was rich and tasty... not watered down! The steak was tender; the chicken was moist; and the pork was delicious! Parking is free behind the building. There are eight stalls. If they're full, park on the street! You'll find a way! It's worth it!

Went a month or so ago to try out the new location. Had the tacos first in China Town during St. Patty's Day from their cart which was yum. We ordered online which is one of imy favorite inventions. Easy to find on the corner of Pauoa across from the gas station. There's a little parking lot in the back with some stalls. Food was ready around the time they quoted. Can never go wrong with carne asada tacos and appreciated you could mix and match the meats. Was filled generously, they didn't put cilantro as requested (major points), and it's a tad pricy but not so bad considering the economy these days. Rice and beans were yummy and enjoy the salsa options. Husband liked his nachos but preferred a different cheese.

Located in the Old Pauoa Chou Suey space is Alejandros 3rd Oahu location. Small parking lot in the back. I called ahead to place order and picked it up. They recently opened and still training the front staff but the cooks are on point! They gave me the wrong order and before I drove off I checked and went back to get it corrected. The food is still good here tasty carnitas burrito and tacos. The location is convenient and service is friendly. They have ample indoor seating and its BYOB.

When I crave Mexican food, Alejandro's is my go to. Food comes out so quick and food is amazing. You step inside and feel like you're in LA. Probably the best Mexican food on the island. I usually park in the back, but it's a bit tight.

We were so excited to see a Mexican restaurant in our neighborhood. We finally got to try it today. We ordered 2 steak wet burritos, steak fries,& beef nachos to-go. Good portion for the price. Everything was good. My favorite was the beef nachos, loaded with everything and very sausey. Will add this to our list of to-go restaurant.

Probably one of the top 5 best Mexican food restaurants in Hawai'i. Easy. Let's start with the parking. There is limited parking in the rear of the building along the fenceline, shared with residential. The access is very narrow (1 car width, height restriction 6'2") from both Pauoa and Pacific Heights Roads, so be very careful when turning in and exiting out. Good luck finding street parking. Once inside, you'll see impressive murials of a few current and popular Dodger and Laker players. The staff is friendly, you're greeted upon entering and thanked as you depart. The menu is pretty impressive, although prices seem a bit up there, especially if you add toppings. We got the chicken nachos and wet carne asada burrito plate with avocado. You can choose plain avocado or guacamole, I chose the latter. Although, after halfway through my meal, I think they forgot to give it to me because I didn't see any. Regardless, you get a decent amount of food. I ate everything on my plate in maybe 10 minutes, it was so good. I seriously considered buying another burrito plate, but decided against it, despondently. The nachos were very good too. Didn't know we can byob. I'm pretty sure we'll be back.

I was so happy to see a restaurant open up in the neighborhood, literally ANYthing. But wow did this place disappoint! I had high hopes but Idk how they have other locations that have done well enough to expand because this food was pretty sad. They definitely used canned chicken in the quesadilla, making it soggy and tasted awful. The chips had zero salt on them. I should have known when I walked into a restaurant with an open kitchen and didn't smell any food smells that they probably aren't actually cooking anything. They glopped some canned chicken into a tortilla and slapped that on the grill for a sec and served it. It's pretty hard to eff up a quesadilla yall sooooo idk what yall doin in there but you may as well just stop.

Good food, service, and great atmosphere! Glad they opened in Pauoa! We have been hoping for a new restaurant to open in this location! The carnita was a bit dry, but the Asada was spot on!

Alejandro's!! Tasty food, friendly atmosphere! Multiple choices of salsa to add to your food! No booze, but BYOB appears OK. Parking: Around 5-7 stalls available behind the building on makai side (don't steal the apartment dwellers' stalls on mauka side!) Two parking entrances: One on Pauoa Rd side, right where Pali Hwy flies over, the second is on Pacific Hts Rd side of building, nearer the corner. WARNING: the Pacific Hts entrance is only 6'2" high, and guests of the previous business there have had too-tall autos get scraped!

Very little, in the back of building against the wall and fence; then go up the stairs to the right then down green hallway to the front.

I believe that Mexican food is only as good as the tortilla, so I asked him where he got it and he said "Thyda's - bro you have to go!" Well, today I finally went and let me tell you - that random beach man was absolutely right! I got the carnitas burrito and it was simply perfect. At $12, I'd say it was reasonably priced too. Service was fast and Thyda and Magid - the husband and wife owners - were so friendly and chill. You can tell they take a lot of pride in what they do and love whipping up great food with a great attitude. They talked to us while we ate and shared a little of their 10 year taco stand journey. I wasn't surprised to learn they spent years in LA. The food definitely holds up to LA standards. Head's up - there's no tables and not much seating or parking. We ate on a small step near where you order. Also note that they have Taco Tuesday deals. Can't believe I've been missing out on this place for so long and I can't wait to go back! Check it out

Flavor was solid, portion was generous, and the food itself is the main reason I keep coming back. The ambiance is chill and local. Most of the afternoon crowd seemed to know each other, which gives the place a comfortable neighborhood feel. That said, the inside is a little dingy and could probably use a renovation. The issue on this visit was the service. When we got there, it was pretty empty, maybe 4 or 5 people sitting at the bar. The guy working behind the bar seated us, but then never brought menus, never brought water, and never came back to take our order. When my friend tried waving him down, he ignored us. Eventually another employee came in, and the bartender just told him, "Go take his order," without acknowledging us at all. I don't know if he was only working the bar that day, but he could have at least brought water, menus, or simply said someone would be right with us. Instead, the whole interaction came across as dismissive and unnecessary. Food was very good as always, but service matters too. Based on this visit, I'd call it 3 stars overall.
