Tried Serg's for the first time recently and enjoyed it. I ordered the ceviche salad, burritos, and nachos, and everything tasted fresh and flavorful. I really liked my ceviche! Super fresh, good chunks of fish, super small shrimp though. The chips tasted freshly made and the green salsa had some HEAT, which I personally loved but some might find too hot (so you've been warned!) I will say they aren't the most allergy-friendly restaurant I've been to in that they weren't super willing to make accommodations. However, they were willing to have a conversation and answer questions to see which food I could eat. Overall, pretty tasty food. read more

First time here.... Loved that we found a spot with taco salad! Not many places make the tortilla bowl! Located in Manoa nearby Manoa shppping center right across the bank on the main road, east Manoa road. They have small parking lots on both sides, a few tables outside for seating. Got the steak fajita taco salad it's very light lots of lettuce no beans loved the shell. Also got the California burrito and chips and salsa. They don't have a chips and salsa set so they charge you for the chips and then for 2 containers of salsa didn't really eat two only ate through one container of salsa. I came here before noon and was able to get the breakfast burrito. It was flavorful along with the rice and beans. The burrito was a little too salty for me but I still enjoyed it. Been here twice and I stand by the fact that this is the best Mexican food on Oahu!!! They have a taco Tuesday special where tacos are $3 only except for birria tacos. I was craving birria tacos today, so got 2 birria tacos anyways. It was a bit greasy but absolutely delicious! Best birria tacos on this island by far. The meat falls apart in your mouth. We spent the day on the North Shore and didn't get back into town until around 7:30 PM. Since it's nearly impossible to get through by phone, we ordered DoorDash for pickup. I arrived at the restaurant before the order was ready and was told it would be out shortly, but I wasn't informed that they were out of the chile rellenos. Unfortunately, I didn't check the order until I got home and discovered that my chile rellenos had been replaced with cheese enchiladas instead. While the food is normally great, it was disappointing not to receive what I originally ordered especially since by the time I realized it, the restaurant was minutes from closing and they don't answer the phone. I'll be more mindful next time when ordering online, although it's difficult to call ahead to check item availability since I can never get through by phone. read more

Came here on a Friday for dinner and ordered the flauta with shredded beef. This is definitely my favorite dish from here. I love the crispy flauta with the crunchy onions on top. The portion of this is huge. It surprisingly wasn't crowded when we came and there was ample parking in the lot, as well as seating. Seating is in a covered outdoor area, so we were getting hit pretty hard with the sun. Service was decently quick during this visit. read more

They have 2 parking areas and 2 separate outside seating areas, we got there and you need to order from the counter and they will call your number when your food is ready for pick up. I had the Burrito with chopped chicken plate which comes with rice and black beans. The burrito was dry not moist and no flavor it did have inside fresh vegetables and guacamole and sour cream, maybe it would be better to order it wet with sauce smothered over it. Left half the plate uneaten. The Serg's nacho had a lot of chopped steak and sour cream and black beans, which also was on the bland side with hardly and taste or flavor. I come here every time I watch a play at Manoa Valley Theatre, it's a great place to have a chill dinner and then enjoy a show! Atmosphere - Outdoor seating, no frills. I did see they have TVs but when I'm there, I haven't seen them on yet. Service - You order your food at the window and pick up when they call your name. The people working have been nice and friendly! Cost - They have various items on the menu so your food order can cost anywhere from $5 - $30, up to you what you want and how many. My go to is the gordito with al pastor/adobada and horchata. The ceviche salad is also REALLY good too and can feed two people (at least I think so). Their flauta is good too and that's when they are known for I believe. Parking - It's a small lot, there are spaces on the left of it and the right of it, can probably fit about 10 cars. You can street park as well. Location - It's close to the Safeway and that Manoa Marketplace of all the food and goodies! I'm going to keep coming here especially since I watch shows at Manoa Valley Theatre and it's great to come here with a group. The biggest group I have come here with was around 14 - 15 people. Appreciated the friendly helpful service when the cashier gave us answers to what options are most popular and the cook behind the counter handing me extra sour cream at no charge without hesitation, but a smile. We ordered their Elote, chimichanga with pork, and Flauta with Al pastor. All tasted really good with lots of flavor. Portions are huge as well, so bring an appetite. Not coming back ever again. I ordered llengua tacos and they didn't let me know they ran out and couldn't give me a partial refund for the llengua taco so they substituted beef tacos and it sucked!! Menu has tons of options and the staff was really welcoming. Parking can be a little tricky for first timers, I pulled into a full lot then backed out and got parking on the other side. Food came out pretty quick and there's lots of space to eat. Kids enjoyed their food and although, I don't have any complaints, it was more island Mex than authentic taste. The rice and beans were filling, but kids wouldn't touch theirs. It wasn't that bad, but was more of a filler than tasty side. I spend half my year in Baja and visit family in the Midwest where arguably have the best Mexican food outside of Mexico. I got the shredded beef flautas and everything was absolutely delicious. I first found sergs on a Covid DoorDash side quest and was pleasantly surprised that someplace could rival my home away from LA go to El Palenque. I've had everything from the Carne Asada Fries, California Burrito, Sopes and a bunch more and none have missed whether in person or doordashed. Can tell they take a lot of pride in their craft as while everything is relatively clean and not oily the flavors is off the hook. Barring you not finding parking in the relatively compact lot everything comes out fast and is damn near family style so through the roof of the box. Sergs has arguably traded blows and in some ways surpassed El Palenque in the depts I care about and is imo a must try for those who love Mexican food on Oahu dethroning El Palenque in all but distance from the crib. I got the birria torta from Serg's for $16.50, and it was HUUUUUUGE! (The pic doesn't do the torta justice though.) Bigger than my hand with fingers spread out--I was stuffed after eating just half. The torta was loaded with birria meat, melted cheese, guacamole, mayo, and black beans, with lettuce and pico de gallo on the side. It was served fresh, hot, and so aromatic--absolutely ono. The torta was STUFFED to the brim, with the birria meat and cheese literally spilling out of the buns and off the plate. Despite how packed the sandwich was, the bread-to-filling ratio was perfect. The bread itself was soft, spongy, and not too dense but still very filling. The birria meat was juicy, tender, and flavorful, while the melted cheese was hot, stretchy, and indulgent. The creamy beans and generous guacamole, with chunks of avocado and a delicious splash of lime flavor, really added to the richness. The lettuce was crispy and pico de gallo was refreshing, which helped balance out the heaviness of the sandwich, creating a wonderful harmony of flavors. Easily a 5/5 stars dish! Ordering is done at the window, and there's outdoor seating available. The service was quick and friendly. They play music, and it's clearly a popular spot--by the time I got there at 7:45 PM on a Wednesday, the line was already building. Sergs used to be great back in the day...today was the last time I'll ever go here. It is continuously gone downhill. If you are fortunate enough to come to Serg's when the university is out of session, everything is good. If you visit on a Tuesday (particularly) when the university is in session, you might as well kiss your Tuesday evening goodbye. This is all well and fine if you grab a few beers (or Jaritos) and hang out while you're waiting. Many people here do seem unbothered, but they're usually in a group and are just chatting. But if you're in a hurry (or just hungry), no amount of advance online ordering can help you. (Yeah, we've tried that too.) Today was especially awesome (not). We placed our order at 659. We walked away clutching our order of 1 burrito and 5 street tacos at nearly 830, even tho the online ordering system said it would be ready at 730, even tho the system told me my order was ready at something like 745. It was not. I was told the system will say an order is ready automatically, even when it isn't. The ladies who interact with the customers are very professional and patient with us, reassuring us our order is coming right up. I have no problem with these folks. I feel like the problem is somehow (I don't know how) with the system. Everybody is grinding so hard back there. They could not possibly work any harder or faster. So this is a bit of a conundrum. Usually the food is amazing. But today, Tuesday, I ordered 5 fish street tacos. They were kind enough to give me 6, probably for my wait. Thank you! But let me tell you this fish was INCREDIBLY overdone, and simply tasteless - which makes the entire taco tasteless. I squeezed the lime over it and added some hot sauce, to no avail. Having had some AMAZING fish tacos at another place just last week (and having had some pretty great fish tacos here, too), this is a spectacular, flaming fail. We love Serg's so much, particularly the flautas and the Cali burrito. I got the fish tacos today because I had been jonesing for them since I had had fish tacos for lunch last week at another Mexican restaurant. But today's experience was so bad I'm not sure I'd ever order these tacos again. I certainly won't recommend them to anyone. So why 2 stars, you ask? Well, it's the people. I think given the right number of people to operate efficiently things would be amazing. I came in earlier this month and things were spot on, just as they had always been: same wonderful people, same incredible food. Not today. We got a chicken quesadilla which had barely to NO cheese inside and the chicken was absolutely FLAVORLESS. it wasn't good at all we had to put tons of sour cream to make it "decent" to eat nonetheless I didn't bother with it. we ordered carne asada fries and I would say it was TERRIBLE. The fries weren't cooked properly, the carne asada didn't even look the way it was supposed to look like. It was so GREASY at the bottom of the plate. I could not finish that and for the price it was disappointing. Lastly we had the birria tacos and I could say that was the ONLY plate that had flavor & was able to eat with no problem. The horchata also lacked flavor .. I don't know how this is business is running still, this is not authentic at all. Don't bother coming here. Their famous flautas are always amazing and as a vegetarian I usually get the sautéed vegetables which are very fresh and flavorful. It's one of the closest places you can find that really feels authentic in Hawai'i. I was craving mexican food and due to time constraints, my partner and I decided to visit the nearest mexican spot by UHM which turned out to be serg's. We would soon to come to regret that decision. When we arrived, we took a second to look at the menu. There was no acknowledgement from the cashier whatsoever and it was actually quite difficult to get their attention. We happened to come by when there were no customers so I felt that there was no justification for the lack of service and overall care of the employees. We ordered a cali burrito, it was ok. Just okay, maybe even worst than okay...My partner also said he felt that it tasted abnormally sour? I didn't felt that but it was greasy, like weirdly greasy in my opinion, especially as the fries within did not taste fresh or even crispy or cooked??? We ordered again as we felt that we needed a bit more food and wanted to give it one more try. We got two steak tacos... and it was even more disappointing than the cali burrito. The meat quality is just bad, and with the minimal toppings within the taco, there was just nothing to mask that fact. Now at this point, the food is just okay, and I would've given this spot a 3/5. However, the service was awful. I honestly don't care that much about how dismissive they were to me at first but when my partner went up to the window and waited for a while to ask a question about his order (he thought he ordered a churro, and was going to add it if he didn't) the cashier literally just waved him away and said to give her 5 mins (she was counting the till). I understand if she has obligations of tasks at work, but at least say something like "so sorry please give me a moment"??? Will not be coming back unless i'm down bad.
