A lunch truck that on typical Thursdays sits on Bishop St between Queen and Merchant....but the smell travels so much farther... Ordered 2 Carne Asada Tacos and 2 Fish Tacos...they were roughly $6-7 each and after tip (which is optional) my total was near $30. A little pricey? Yeah, but the quality is top notch. The tacos themselves are pretty small. Pretty sure they're like 4" tortillasm but they are LOADED with fillings. So much so, i'd recommend you go fork and knife on these things as they're so overstuffed (not a bad thing) that they're hard to fold and eat without spilling everywhere. Each taco comes with a lime wedge. The carne asada ones had cilantro, onions and jalapenos while the fish tacos had pickled red onion, mustard seed and cilantro. Everything was super fresh and delicious. Surprisingly liked the fish tacos a lot more as some of the carne asada was a little dry and tough. They make everything fresh (or at least heat up the meat fresh) so there's typically a little bit of a wait. They hand you the tacos in little paper boats (or a paper plate depending on what you order) with foil on top. They don't have bags, so bring your own if you're ordering for the office....or you just eat a lot...no judgement. They also have about 4-5 different hot sauces and small plastic containers as well as napkins on the little shelf on the side of the truck just below the ordering window. Will definitely go back, just can't make it a regular thing as it does get a bit pricey....but hey, its downtown Honolulu....everything is pricey.
It wasn't my idea to order tacos in Hawaii, but I'm glad my spouse did! The carne asada and the al pastor-ish (these had cinnamon?) tacos were good. But the vegan cauliflower taco with cashew cream was the biggest hit. So flavorful. It was parked outside Hotel Renew during our stay.
Love this taco truck so much! Check their Instagram page for locations and hours before you go, sometimes they have catering gigs and won't be at their usual spots. We went on Saturday around 12:30pm. We ordered 6 tacos and 2 Mexican cokes. There were around 3 orders before us but we got our food in about 20mins. The tacos are loaded with toppings and deliciously hot and fresh. The seasoning on the meats, the fresh veggies and the combinations of flavors and textures are spot on. Doesn't hurt that they're actually aesthetically pleasing, something that you wouldn't usually see in a taco! We have tried every type of taco on the menu and none of them miss. Take some chairs or a picnic blanket so you're comfortable while you wait. It's also nice to just sit in the park to eat, the large trees provide ample shade. Would definitely go more often if they were located closer to home.

These tacos are HEFTY, the meat is moist, and it's super cheesy! It is quite oily though and makes me sleepy after lunch, so I also ordered a lighter fish taco on the side. I liked all the crunchy veggies on this, but the fish itself was pretty hard and dry. We came at 11:45, thinking we could beat the lunch rush, but the line was still super long. We probably waited over 30 minutes to get our food. Definitely come early or order ahead if you don't want to wait.
Was able to catch the food truck when it was on Cooke Street thanks to my coworker. We piled the others into the car and off we went on our Taco Tuesday adventure!!! The service was great and we only waited about ten-fifteen minutes for our orders. I didn't want the cilantro lime cream sauce so they recommended the vegan sauce and it was good. This was my first time to try mustard seeds. I thought it was an interesting twist on a taco. Had two shrimp tacos for $5.50 each. They have some tables and chairs on the property where the food truck was parked.
I recently hired Dos Jefes taco truck to treat our employees to a great lunch. Collin and his crew were absolutely the best. They were there early to set up and prepare and the event went off seamlessly. The food was so good that many of my employees were asking where to find them on a regular day. The Birria tacos were huge and so delicious, as were all of the street tacos they served up. Super reasonably priced as well. Highly recommend these guys without reservation. Go get you some Dos Jefes!!

I tried nearly all of them, but my favorites were the pork birria, shrimp tacos, and carne asada. Each one was packed with bold, mouthwatering flavor. Their homemade hot sauce is fire--it's officially a staple in my fridge! It also makes great gifts (all my friends back home are requesting for more)! The service was friendly, and the overall vibe is chill and welcoming. You can tell they genuinely care about their food and quality. If you're craving tacos, this is the spot. Tacos! This food truck is parked downtown on Thursdays, I believe. The menu offers a variety of tacos: pollo, carnitas, carne asada, birra, and fish. They make it to order, and there is typically a short wait, but so ono. These street style tacos are overflowing with meat, onions, and delicious spices. The owners are working and are very friendly. They cook up quite an authentic experience. The A&B building has steps and places to sit or wait in the shade. Meters across or down the street if driving in.
Dos Jefes is our favorite Lunch truck on island. Imagine it is located at 3-4 different locations every week. They post which ones on IG. Typical hours are 10:30- 2:30 Tue, Thur, Sat. He reason to search them out is for the amazing Fish , Shrimp and birra tacos. So Good!! Matt the owner is super friendly and helpful. Enjoy!

Check their Instagram page for the most updated information. I'm so glad they're in downtown. We really need more food trucks in the area to give more options for lunch. Key tip is to go early. Go before 12 if you can, because when I showed up 10 minutes before 12, there was just one group in front of me ordering. At12:05 there was a long line starting to form. They also do take phone orders but can't pick up when busy so best to just go early if you have a flexible schedule to do so. I had a great impression of the place even before I took a bite of my taco, because the guys at the truck are so nice and welcoming. I couldn't decide between birria tacos or street tacos (my friends know how indecisive I am) and I had no one to get it all and share with LOL. Since there was no line behind me, I asked what the recommendation is to try first since it was my first time. I know everyone hates getting asked that, but he really tried to help me figure out what I should get and I REALLY appreciated that. I was told that the surf and turf birria tacos are really good but big. So big that I may just eat one and save the other for later (good thing it keeps well). I didn't really want to save it (I know me, I'll stuff it down and regret eating so much later). So we decided on a pork taco and a shrimp taco. I'm not much of a taco person. I love tacos but I just love burritos more. I usually feel like I need to eat a bunch of tacos to be full, whereas half a burrito and I'm good. But these were so good! They were filled with meat. I should have counted how many shrimp I had, but it was definitely more than 5 pieces. The toppings and flavor were amazing. I can't wait to try everything else on their menu.

I've been following them for awhile and then my cuz recommended them but I was TODAY years old when I finally finally tried them. What a slick operation! They have totally figured it out! I had the surf and turf birria tacos and OMG. You'd think that would be too much for any taco to handle, but let me tell you - it just isn't. The shrimp in particular is spot on - perfectly grilled, not overcooked AT ALL. The consommé is super flavorful with just the right amount of spice. Every bite was perfection. Literally everything was amazing. Amazing! Oh AND they sell their house hot sauce from the truck too! Their schedule is posted right up there on their IG page so you have no good reason not to go. Do you love it when you buy tacos from a taco truck and there's barely any meat in it, and it's easy to fold the taco in half due to a lack of fillings? You do? Cool - then don't come here LOL Let me just start by saying that their tacos not only have a GENEROUS portion of fillings in each taco, but the flavors are bold and delicious! (no lackluster tacos here) On Thursdays, they park on bishop street (near intersection of Bishop and Queen) in downtown, and they always have a line. I now know why. Knowing they are busy, I called in my order ahead of time to pickup at 12pm. I got in line about 12pm, and the cook told the cashier to let him know when "Kira" is here so he can start cooking/plating. Just so happens, I was next in line and told them I was Kira, and they lit up and said "perfect timing!". My food was ready in less than 5 minutes, so the whole experience was super fast. (I work less than a block away, so this is the perfect quick lunch spot!) In just the few minutes I spent there, I could tell that these 2 guys love what they do and are passionate about providing a great meal and experience to their customers. Super friendly :) I got back to my office, and closed my door to eat in peace so as to not get judged at by my coworkers for savagely delving into my tacos lol. Upon lifting the foil, I was very surprised to see how much fillings were in each taco, and a piece of lime was delicately placed between each taco - each of which was nicely garnished/plated. To put into perspective of how much filling was inside each one, I could barely grab it and fold it in half.. the contents of each taco literally overflowed the corn tortilla and was spilling onto my plate! Yum :D For my first time here, I decided to stick with the basics and I opted to try one of each type of taco: STREET TACO W/ PORK ($5): the pork was perfectly cooked - not dry, but at the same time, not overly greasy and fatty. Not only was it paired with salsa verde, pickled onions, and the usual onions and cilantro, but it was also topped with a piece of pineapple. I bit into the taco and was immediately welcomed with a variety of flavors at once - salty, savory, a touch of sour notes, a kick of spice, and a hint of sweetness. It all came together beautifully, and each bite left me wanting more. FISH TACO ($5.50): wow, the piece of fish in this (I believe it was ahi?) was generous as well. It was a big chunk of fish that was topped with salsa verde, garlic wasabi cream, cabbage, more pickled red onions, pickled mustard seeds (interesting), and cilantro. I was initially worried about the wasabi cream and mustard seeds being overwhelming, but again, everything complemented each other nicely. The fish wasn't too try either - they seared it so the inside is still pink and tender. SHRIMP TACO ($5.50): again, no tiny pieces of shrimp here.. the shrimp pieces were good-sized! (do you see a pattern here?) this taco also had pickled mustard seeds, and was garnished with salsa verde, cilantro lime creme, and pico de gallo. Yummy flavors, but the shrimp still shined as the main player of the dish - as it should be. I think out of the three, my favorite was the street taco with pork. I am a sucker for dishes that are bursting with various flavors that catch you by surprise and are not one-note, but instead incorporate sweetness, acidity, saltiness, etc. I think next time, I want to try the surf and turf birria tacos :) They look huge and with the consomme they offer, I have a feeling it might be added as another favorite. I can't wait to bring my husband here (who's Mexican/Spanish and grew up in California)! I definitely recommend this place, so follow them on instagram to follow what locations they will be at!
Always visit Dos Jefes when they come to downtown. Visit their IG and they'll post their schedule every week. Go early as they're very busy during lunch time. Dos Jefes is the top taco food truck on the island. Their tacos are delicious and flavorful. My favorite taco is the pork street taco and their pork birria. Service : 5/5 Food : 5/5 Price : 5/5 Can't wait for them to open their own restaurant in town. read more

My West Coast friends say that the most delicious tacos come from trucks. Dos Jefes schooled me on this urban legend in the best possible way. Stumbled across this meals-on-wheels phenomena when picnicking with the pup at Triangle Park. We were intrigued by the intense amount of interest this sticker-filled truck brought with it. No sooner had they parked before a line started forming. Since we already had our bentos, we had to wait for another weekend to see what the buzz was about. Lucky for us, they are regularly there on Saturdays (except if they have a catering gig). So we confirmed their location on Insta, packed up our pup and picnic blanket, and joined the line for some street tacos. I love when a place does one thing and does it mind-blowingly well. That's what you can expect from Dos Jefes--tacos that will blow your mind and your taste buds! Hubby ordered the surf and turf birria taco. Juicy shredded beef, succulent shrimp, and crispy cheese sandwiched between a warm, grilled tortilla. Served with a rich dipping sauce--because it is a birria, after all. You get two per order and it was more than enough to satisfy the hubby's appetite. I don't eat meat, so the cauliflower tacos called my name. Since I've had them, they call me in my sleep sometimes beckoning me back to their bright, savory goodness. Seriously, this taco hits ALL the notes in texture and taste. I do eat seafood, so I also tried a shrimp taco with the cauliflower taco sauce because I don't do dairy. I'm a complicated eater, I know. But, Dos Jefes makes each taco to order, so they can adjust to dietary preferences. And since they are making tacos to order, don't expect fast food. This is NOT that restaurant with a bell on it! Its Jefe's slaving over a grill and putting lots of care into the product they are putting out. You can tell from the first bite to the last lick of your fingers. Plus, Triangle Park is usually cool and breezy with lots of shade so it's a great place to wait for your plate. Most customers took their order to go. But we enjoyed our tacos under the monkey pod tree. Triangle Park is a fantastic spot to enjoy some terrific tacos on a Saturday. There's lots of free parking, open space, fresh air, and great trees. Pup especially loved it and even got to taste a bit of birria. She gave it two barks up! When we left, we got a chance to chat with Matt. He owns and runs the truck with 'the other Jefe' Collin. Seems like a stellar dude who's passionate not just about what they are serving but the people who are enjoying their tacos. Dos Jefes - Two dudes, one truck, many happy customers, including us! This food truck always smells so good and always has a long line so I had to try it. I got the chicken and pork birria tacos and they were really big and worth it for the value. The flavor was yummy but it was also just way too salty. We must've gone on an off day because there's no way people keep coming back these tacos if they're this salty. I would come back again to see if the consomé was just off the day we came because the delicious flavors were definitely there. Service was great too. read more

I am a sucker for dishes that are bursting with various flavors that catch you by surprise and are not one-note, but instead incorporate sweetness, acidity, saltiness, etc. I think next time, I want to try the surf and turf birria tacos :) They look huge and with the consomme they offer, I have a feeling it might be added as another favorite. I can't wait to bring my husband here (who's Mexican/Spanish and grew up in California)! Same reviewer, different review. Ambiance: We went on Saturday, so they're at Triangle Park near Diamond Head side. Good amount of parking. Service: We arrived around 1:30pm, so it wasn't as busy. It took maybe ten minutes or less before everything was hot and fresh and good to go. Cashier was friendly and nice, too. Food: We ordered the chicken birria tacos (comes with two and consommé), two pork tacos, and one fish taco (swordfish today). Food was excellent. So good in fact, I took a couple bites before actually taking the pic My go-to is the chicken birria, and no one does them like Dos Jefes. If there are any other places, hit me up. Otherwise, this place is consistently solid. Taco shell is soft and crispy and hot, chicken is juicy, side of lime gives a hint of acidity, and the consommé is flavorful and ties everything together. read more

The portion size is big and price is great for what you get. I got a pork taco, carne asada taco, and a fish taco. All of them were AMAZING! The wait was long but the taste was good and made it worth it. read more

I looked out my building and saw them busy. Their name caught my eye, Dos Jefes. Reminded me of the Jon Favreau, Chef, where he started a food truck, El Jefe. Lunch time rolled around and decided to give them a try. I have had birria tacos before and never understood the point of consommé because tortillas don't exactly soak it up, like how the bread of a French dip soaks up the au jus. My one and only prior experience with birria tacos, the tortilla fell apart 1/3 into the tacos, I ended up cramming them all into the dip and forking it out. My experience with Dos Jefes birria was much better. The tortillas held up and everything inside stayed in throughout. It seemed there were enough pockets in the taco that held the consommé in place for each bite. Tortillas were nice and crispy, but not completely dried out. They still had their tortilla chewiness. The flavor of the pork was very good, balanced and juicy. Looks like I will be looking forward to Thursdays in the office. Be ready for a wait if there is a line and try to get there early because they ran out of pork after I ordered. I waited 20 mins from time of order. Worth the wait though. read more

My Gemini twin sister absolutely love Birria and say this is her favorite place to get her fix. Primarily found on Mother Waldron Park on Tuesday, Wednesday and Fridays I found my window of opportunity today and decided to embrace it. Offering a wide varieties of tacos I really wanted to try the Cauliflower but needed the Birria for references and besides I do love that as well. Stuffed in two grilled flour tortillas you get a choice of pork or chicken I got pork along with cheese, onions and cilantro and is accompanied with dipping and hot sauce with a couple of lime wedges. Hot and fresh made to order YES! though it only took a few minutes I was excited to finally give it a try. Though there are some picnic tables I drove around the block to SALT where there an area called The Barn that has fabulous seating in a semi outdoor environment along with seating scattered all around I found a shaded one in no time. I forgot to grab napkins in my haste but always come prepared as I saw this will be a yummy mess...dip dip dip the sauce container is a bit small so ended up doing the pour it over technique which was great but woah!!! Super flavorful and meaty and that hot sauce really gave it a flavorful slap in my tastebuds I can see why this was her favorite the only downside was the time constraints is difficult and limited for my convenience. So this is definitely one of those occasions where I enthusiastically want to share my findings with the Yelp community but don't want to find long lines when I go next after I post this glowing review. Upon the recommendation of some friends I was able to track down this taco truck on a Saturday afternoon at Triangle Park in the Kahala/Diamond Head neighborhood. There was plenty of parking around the park as I pulled up. I got to sample three of their offerings: the shrimp taco, the fish taco, and their pork street taco. The shrimp taco was tasty with large, bulbous pieces covered with fresh veggies and packed to the edges. The pork taco was delicious as well with generous portions of savoriness almost overflowing the tortilla underneath. The fish taco was unlike most in the sense that it wasn't deep fried but grilled. Soft, flaky white meat crumbles in your mouth as the various flavors perform their alchemy. I'm going back this weekend to try their Birria tacos which I hear are also excellent. Great service, amazing food, and locally sourced ingredients make this taco truck a massive win in my book. In my very humble opinion, the best tacos on the island until proven otherwise! read more

I think their IG account is more reliable for their hours and locations. There were a few scattered people waiting for their orders and one other in line so I jumped on the chance. Previously I've seen a line about 10 people deep so I skipped it. The orders came fast and they'll cover it with foil if you're doing take away but Cooke Street has those open tables to take advantage of on the sidewalk if you just can't wait. Trying not to be greedy I settled for a seafood theme. The fish taco was great and moist. The added lime squeeze just adds that next level and it was bomb. My fave was the shrimp taco thooooooooo... that was divine. It was smokey and spicy and everything nicey! Honestly, shoulda just got two shrimp tacos. You also can't have tacos without Jarritos and I suppose they vary which ones they got in stock so ask to see if they got your fave. You can pay cash or card as they have the little card reader on the shelf. They've got excellent customer service and obviously have a great rapport with their regulars as I witnessed them chat and work and catch up. Very cool. Gonna go back next time I see them. read more

Now that I'm back in town, needed to look for somewhere to get lunch. Seen this food truck parked outside of the A&B Bldg (IYKYK) and decided to try it, since it looked like a crowd of ppl were lining up. So, I ordered the shrimp taco and carne asada taco...but they ran out of shrimp which was okay, just got another carne asada...lol The wait wasn't too long and the guys running the truck are cool! They're playing music and just a cool vibe. Got back to the office and my first bite was all FLAVOR! It has flavor with every bite!! They don't have a big menu, but that's a good thing...don't think I can stand there joint going over a big menu. It's a nice simple menu that has a lot of flavor. So, I'll be back to try the other tacos!! read more

So glad that I got recommended Dos Jefes. Got the special of the day at the time which was three carne asada tacos + a soda. The carne asada tacos were really good. The meat was super flavorful and they pack so much meat into this taco that I had a hard time picking it up to eat. The little container of hot sauce packed just enough heat but wasn't overly spicy. If you're a spicy fanatic, you'd prob wanna grab some of their other hot sauce. Since this is a food truck, definitely follow their IG page so you know exactly where they're at. I'd recommend coming slightly before or after the lunch rush as they get super busy. read more
