    Asada burrito
    Andrea O.

Just moved into the neighborhood and was scoping out the new food options around the block. Drove past Sergs and the craving for a burrito kicked in. WARNING the parking lot is tiny so you may have to find parking nearby. As soon as I arrived I could tell this place was swamped with Togo orders and shortly after the line grew substantially for people waiting to place their orders. I ordered a taco because on Tuesday they have TACO TUESDAY ! And I wanted to make sure it was worth coming back for . The asada was good! Not dry I just wished I'd asked for some salsa but the lady was busy and I'm guessing because of Covid they probably have everything packed up individually. Besides that I could tell that the taco was good and a decent size for the price. My asada burrito was also good, meat was nicely cooked you get a whole plate of food which ended up being my lunch for the following day. I am definitely coming back here for taco Tuesday !

Al Pastor Cali Burrito + Hot Sauces

What a day! Tried to order tortas, and they were out. Attempted to get sopes and informed it's sold out. Rushed to get Al Pastor Cali Burrito. Service was a breeze. Size of burrito was just right and filling looked appealing. Loved taste and spices of Al Pastor (pork) and hot salsas. Disgusted with carb overload of potato sliced like fries in flour tortilla. I don't think potatoes and flour tortillas go together. Reminded me of two bland carbohydrates joining forces. I'll make sure next time to read the fine print before ordering take out.

    Carne Asada Fries

Four stars for the Carne Asada fries. Two stars for everything else I've tried. I first started with the Flautas, recommended here, but wasn't impressed with them or their value (seems a small portion for nearly $9). Subsequently, I ordered other things but forgot to ask for no sour cream, so that disappointment was partially my fault. Eventually I spotted the Carne Asada fries, and I don't know that I'll try anything else now. Reasonably flavorful and decent portion size, seems a better value for my nine bucks than the much-touted flautas. Wait time is okay, especially if you can hang out under the tent. You don't have many choices for Mexican on campus, and it seems about on par with the state of Mexican food on Oahu. The location has moved - it's now between Campus Center and Kuykendall.

Delicious street style tacos! I was a little shocked by the price since I was used to the mainland but eh. That's the cost of living here. I had the carne asada tacos and taquitos! Everything was extremely delicious and flavorful. The parking can be a little tight but everyone's usually really good if someone needs to move. It's a great hangout spot for large groups if you can come when it's not super busy. We came after a baseball game so there was about 5 families in our party. The kids had fun playing foosball and the adults enjoyed each other's company in its laid back atmosphere. It's also BYOB! We also tasted the wings and carne asada fries from next door. They were super delicious as well! Not your traditional wings since you literally get the entire wing! We will definitely come back if we're in the area again.

    Beef flauta plate! $9.37

Serg's is going to be here at UH Manoa permanently or so they say. Let's hope so!!! Their food is traditional, hearty and delicious. Tentative Summer 2017 schedule is: Tuesday/Thursday on in front of the John F Kennedy Theatre on E. West Rd. Monday/Wednesday/Friday at the Cafeteria. But they mentioned that eventually be in front of UH Manoa's Cafeteria Monday through Friday. :D My first but not my last Steak Flauta! The description says it's lightly fried but don't take that lightly. I feel like it's more of a chimichanga than an oversized flauta. It's hearty and the amount of meat chunks is generous. The tortillas' crispy goodness holds up well under the guac salsa (verde) and queso fresco (crumble cheese). There's also plenty of fresh cilantro adorning the sauces on top. The portion is large. Enough for 2 meals for me, so I'll be saving half for later. The fat girl in me wants to finish the whole thing right now but I will resist. XD You know good and well that there aren't many good Mexican food choices and even less food trucks in Honolulu. Being Latina and growing up with Empanadas and carne asada on the parrilla I'm always looking for some down Latino flavors. They are one of the good ones. So if you're near UH Manoa come check them out! I have a picture of the cool chef Inaris!

It's great to have Serge's now on campus next to the POST building. It looks like they've hit the ground running. I had the chicken burrito place for about $8.50, and you get an ample amount of black beans and Spanish rice with that. The burrito is smaller than Verde Kaimuki's burrito at $7 but you get way more food overall. The food came out quickly and nice and hot. They doubled up on dispensers for three of their salsas (avocado, salsa verde, and one other red one that was hot) that you can flood onto your lunch plate. Mas salsa por favor! That they have two locations besides this along with their hot wings stand, they leverage their experience in running this here. This is authentic Mexican food; something you can't find on campus, and rare in Hawaii. They even have flautas, their specialty. Orale!

Coming from California, I have high expectations for how my tacos should taste. As you all should know, Hawai'i is not really known for any authentic Mexican food. However, I believe that Serg's is home to the best tasting tacos on the island! I first went to their original location in Mānoa in the year 2012, and I've been a loyal fan since. I'm glad they finally decided to have a truck on campus, as it's now much more convenient. Though the salsa may actually be what's making their tacos taste so good, their meat is usually cooked to be tender as well.

Little ROCK I found in my flauta this weekend!!!!! Wth! Luckily it did not crack any teeth!
    Janna W.

Let me just say first, that I normally love Serg's. I will drive all the way to Manoa to have some yummy flautas! BUT this is what I found in my flauta this past weekend! I little ROCK. Luckily it did not crack a tooth, seriously!!!!! I would usually say 5 stars! But my last visit made me wonder. Ok well, maybe this only deserves a 2 star deduction you say? Perhaps, but as soon as we sat down to eat, they literally cranked up the music 3 or 4 times louder than it had just been playing. And yes, it's outdoors seating, but I could barely hear myself talk! =(

    Flouta
    Stephanie D.

The Serge's food truck showed up across the street of my work place about a month or two ago. And boy, it has been busy ever since! You can find the truck right across Teaspresso around 11-2 pmish. Normally it's just two people manning the truck and supplies are limited. There is an array of burritos, tacos, carne asada fries, and my new fave, floutas! Picture a giant taquito, it is lightly fried filled meat of choice, cilantro, onions and cheese topped in a green salsa with rice and beans. You've heard of burritos and tacos and enchiladas. BUT have you ever heard of a flouta? First time I had this I almost got up and danced!! I couldn't believe I've never had such deliciousness before! If you like taquitos and you like Mexican food, then you gotta try one! You're welcome in advance

It came with three sides so I got cole slaw, potato salad, and Mac and cheese. Cole slaw and Mac and cheese were solid; Potato salad was just alright. They also gave one warm bun too. The reason I gave 3 stars was because service was extremely slow. It seemed like they were short staff and had one person at the cash register AND getting the food. He would take a few orders, and then grab the food. When I arrived, he was grabbing food for multiple folks so then I stood there waiting like 15 just to place my order. Then when he restarted and took my order, he took like 5 more orders before grabbing the food so then I waited even longer for another 15 min. That's 30 min of waiting! Also he wasn't serving food in the order that orders were received so it felt actually felt even longer. There needs to be a better system! Surprisingly he did a employee discount on my order. Now I've had a lot of these in my life, and I must say, Iyasume are easily the best. See musubi and onigiri have humble origins as a quickly made homespun snack or on the go lunch, and when you spot them in the convenience environment they're often a giant ball of rice with a tinge of protein or seasoning for flavor. At Iyasume, these are culinary adventures, stacked with ingredients, all in handheld form, and the variety they offer is IMPRESSIVE! Of course musubi starts with the classic, SPAM. However, after having to abandon our original dinner plans, we were no less intrigued after randomly stumbling across this place. While they may not have been our first choice for dinner, coming here was far more appealing than eating fast food or at the nearby IHOP! Although seeing so many folks at this mini food truck park may have been what caught our attention, it was the boxes of fried chicken on nearly every table that swayed us to try Waikiki Chicken in Paradise in particular. After skimming the menu, it wasn't hard to see why they were such a popular choice - everything on it sounded great. Granted, that's not overly difficult when there are only eight items to choose from, but tough to argue with the likes of fried chicken loco moco, fried chicken curry rice, fried chicken sandwiches, chicken & croffle, and fish & chips! Since we saw how big the portion were and didn't want anything too heavy (read: sadly, no loco moco or Japanese curry), we opted to split a FRIED CHICKEN RICE PLATE ($16.95) which came with a Fried Chicken Cutlet over White Rice with Mac Salad & Green Salad. Funny enough, despite already having a sense of how much food they give, I was still surprised by the generous portion size. As for how it all tasted, this was great. The breading on the chicken reminded me of Popeye's (though, without the spice), the batter was crispy, and the chicken itself was rather moist. As for the sides, the mac salad was pretty good, but the salad was a little heavy on dressing. If there was one thing I could change about our order, I think I'd want to see how it would taste with a sauce or glaze. At the very least, I'd definitely go with a different dipping sauce, like their Pineapple Ginger, Lilikoi Mayo, or Guava BBQ, as the Honey Mustard we went with tasted a bit generic. Of course, we could've solved both problems if we had gone with the Fried Chicken Loco Moco or Fried Chicken Curry Rice instead! I guess I'll just have to wait until the next time I'm in Waikiki!
