    Hell Fire grilled tacos
    Trissie T.

Went here for lunch and it turned out to be a nice casual lunch. I had the Hell Fire burrito and that was too spicy for my stomach to handle. The burn lingered for a while and gave me acid reflux for two days. Don't recommend anyone with gastrointestinal issues to try it. I can eat very spicy, but it's not the natural spice therefore created issues for me. Tasted good tho so i will definitely come back and try the regular version. The strawberry horchata was delicious and good level of sweetness. I don't drink sweet drinks so it's a tad too sweet for me and I still enjoyed it. The service was friendly but the music was on too loud. I couldn't hear my conversation so i had to move further away from the speakers. Overall, nice stop for lunch as they are not crowded.

Hands down the best Birria Tacos. We were downtown and craving tacos so we went with La Birria. I've been to their food truck at Pearlridge but they also have a restaurant downtown. Service was great and quick. We ordered the Birria Queso Pack, pickled jalapeños, added ramen, and the cold brew horchata. Everything was on point. The cold brew horchata is super refreshing, especially if you're a coffee lover. It's got that nice cinnamon horchata flavor mixed with cold brew. The best part for me was pouring the consommé into the ramen bowl. Such a genius combo. Definitely coming back.

Been coming to La Birria since 2022 when i tried it way back when for the first time at their truck right outside of Pearlridge. I been ecstatic ever since they opened this downtown location since I live in town and used to make the trip all the way to Aiea for these tacos lol . I hope this location never moves because it feels amazing having them just blocks away since i crave the tacos every other day ( im not kidding btw ) . This is the BEST spot to get authentic delicious birria on the island , im telling you! Meat is so favorable and juicy and the cheese, onions and cilantro just come together. I don't know why it took me long to make a review on here but either way I finally did haha. I got the tacos since it's been long overdue and i been craving .. also i ordered the hellfire tacos along side the queso pack and WOW. I definitely underestimated the spice level butttt it was a powerful delicious kick! So glad i gave it a try finally today. I haven't tried their horchata yet but i will make sure i do on my next visit! Shoutout to La Birria for always satisfying my cravings , yall are the MVP!!

The most legit Birria and consommé I've ever had. I got the Birria Queso Pack which has three Birria tacos and consommé. They disappeared so fast, and I drank what was left of the consommé. The strawberry horchata was such a treat. Bursting with flavor and such a treat. I must have this again.

The restaurant was clean and the air conditioning was very cool. Take-out or indoor seating type of place. The Strawberry Horchata was the perfect amount of sweetness, creamy, and with real strawberry. I could taste cinnamon and vanilla. 10/10...so good! I also got the Barria Queso Pack. I asked for no onions but my order ended up having onions in it. The cook was the same person the rung me up. He was really kind and friendly. He even open the door for me as I exited. I would definitely go back again.

I was referred to La Birria by the guys working at the AC Marriott Hotel. Love the fact that they are friendly and open late, especially when you need a quick snack or just having a late dinner. It's a takeout only spot and you order at the door. The 3 tacos I ordered were delicious and they had just the right amount of meat (minus the cheese). They normally come with mozzarella cheese, cilantro and onions with shredded beef. The dipping sauce was good too and you definitely won't run out. Make sure you have some napkins for the dipping sauce. They do not have any sodas, tea coffee, etc..so I recommend getting your own unless you want horchata. I will definitely eat there again!!

Sometimes I like to walk to fort street from my office and let my feet tell me where we eating for lunch. LOL...MANY times it's lead me to La Birria. I've grabbed a plate to go from here maybe 6-7 times since they opened. But todayyyyys birria tacos were so good I had to leave a review. Birria Queso pack & some strawberry horchata are my go-tos! IDK what was in today's batch but LITERALLY THE BEST BIRRIA TACOS I've ever had in my whole life ‍ were consumed today. Flavorful, juicy & thick- just the way it's suppose to be! Even consuming like 20mins after picking up, it was so good! Service is great, & food to match. Highly recommend!

BEST tacos I've ever had. The birria was soo tasty and the tacos were crispy with lots of delicious filling. I wish I could write more but I finished all 3 tacos all within the time it took me to write this review. I'm dreaming about the next time already ;)

Lunch in Downtown Honolulu, Hawaii... I saw this Hot New Business on Instagram and had to try it! La Birria has a Food Truck in the parking lot of Pearlridge, but the thought of outdoor dining with the wind and exhaust fumes from cars passing by is not appealing. Plus, dipping my tacos in consommé requires a table and a clean, stable environment since this will be a very messy process... That's why this Fort Street Mall location is perfect! It's kind of busy during lunchtime since many office workers (and even police officers) stop by for dining-in or takeout. I got the Birria Queso Pack (three tacos with cheese), which comes with consommè and a wedge of lime. It was a bit spicy for me, but the shredded meat was tasty and tender! There were finely diced onions in it that provided some texture and more flavor. The edges of the corn tortilla had a slight crunch... yum! The cheese pull was fun, too! I also got a Strawberry Horchata, which was refreshing and helped calm my mouth! This drink has a cinnamon essence and is not watered down! Stop by if you're in the area! Tip: don't sit in the hot corner. Make sure you can feel the air conditioning because the door is left open.

    12 pack birria tacos

TLDR: La Birria's new Downtown Honolulu location serves authentic, flavorful birria tacos with complex consommé. The 12-pack ($48) is pricey but worth it for the quality, and takeout service is quick and efficient. Full review: We grabbed takeout from La Birria's brick-and-mortar spot on Fort Street Mall in Downtown Honolulu (they opened in September 2024). This place started as a food truck at Pearlridge and has built a serious following. I ordered their 12-pack of birria tacos ($48) - admittedly on the pricier side at nearly $5 per taco after tax, but these aren't your average tacos. Each one came perfectly crispy, generously filled with tender, flavorful meat, and accompanied by their rich, complex consommé for dipping. The tacos were still piping hot when I got home, which is impressive for takeout. What makes these stand out is Chef Arturo Silva's authentic recipe (he's from Mexico City and previously opened Buho Cocina). The depth of flavor in both the meat and the consommé shows serious culinary skill. Each taco had that perfect balance of crispy exterior and juicy interior that makes birria tacos so craveable. The service was quick and efficient - I was in and out in under 10 minutes despite them being fairly busy. They've kept their menu focused on what they do best: birria tacos, hellfire tacos (with ghost pepper for heat lovers), and their birria ramen, which uses the same amazing consommé. If you're feeding a group or just want leftovers, the 12-pack is the way to go. While not cheap eats, the quality and authenticity make it worth the splurge for a satisfying takeout experience. Great for finishing up a night out in Chinatown!

The birria tacos are outstanding and the consommé is perfect. If you're nearby, give this place a try. Convenient to the AC Hotel just a block away.

12 PACK BIRRIA QUESO TACOS $48
    Amber S.

I understand the hype now. Tried Birria tacos at another spot, was not impressed. Decided to give this spot a try. The shop is located in downtown Honolulu near Scarlet. Simple storefront with Hispanic music playing on the speakers. The menu is simple, which I appreciated. The tacos were crunchy even after a 10 minute walk back to the office. The consommé was rich and flavorful, and they're not stingy with the amount they pour in the to-go container. I had leftover consommé so I plan to take it home and eat it with ramen. Service was fast and friendly. Will definitely come back when I have another taco craving.

I'm literally screaming! This place is so good! The BEST place for birria on this island. When I say the consommé exceeded my expectations, I absolutely mean it. The broth was sooo rich in flavor, I could drink it. Whatever you do, just get an extra consommé and eat it with either ramen noodles or rice. Thank me later. Let's talk about the tacos-- ummmm incredibly DELICIOUS! The meat was tender and seasoned perfectly. The hell fire one... it was HAWWWTT!!! I can tolerate hot but as I was digesting, I could feel the heat making its way through my GI tract. Hehe. But so much fun when you get the Mexican roulette package because it's funny when the poor friend or you get the really spicy one. The place is fairly easy to find. It's around the corner from Scarlet nightclub. Parking is semi hard to find since it's Chinatown so the best way to get it quickly is to go w another person and have them sit in the car while you pick up the goods or vice versa. Service is impeccable. They're all so nice and super quick. I usually order a big order and it comes out within 5-10 mins which is muy impressive! I wish they would do a point system where if you buy X amount, you get one package free. I would literally be there every week. It is that good. Now run run run to the place. It's worth it, the hype is real.

First, being Hawaii, decent means not using pasta sauce to replace pico, not using shredded processed cheese, and not using refried beans from a can. Don't think of comparing this to that "authentic ethnic" spot in LA or the over border drunken stint in TJ. All the requisites from tortas, burritos, tacos, enchiladas, fajitas, sopas including pozole and menudo, on offer. Complimentary C&S, just OK. Kinda soggy chips and the watery salsa doesn't much depth despite being fire roasted and not much spice heat. No complaints on the basic rice and refried beans that accompanied the large, stuffed trio of chicken empanadas (usually comes with two, add an additional for $5). Flavorful enough but not that complex mole. They are finished off with some sour cream, raw onions and crumbled cotija. Solid. Fast, friendly service with servers who seem to know their regulars well. Fair pricing with almost everything sub $30. It is what it is. Not bad for Hawaii and works to scratch the Mexican itch.

But we were looking for something different, quick, and tasty. That's what we got at K-Mex HI although to be quite frank - the parking lot here is terrible! Mostly due to their location in the middle of the street with a handful of street parking locations shared with multiple other businesses down the lane. It took us 3 rounds of driving before we ended up deciding it was better to drop me off to order and pick up the food and have my man drive around into another larger parking lot to wait the 15-ish minutes it would take for our food to be ready. The owners were so nice. Answering all of my insistent questions, smiling when I ended up ordering something different from what they recommended on the menu (my bad - it's a question I ask all businesses even though I usually decide what I want beforehand LOL). They asked if I needed a bag, if I needed utensils and napkins, and even checked in on me while they made the food! Awesome service and I'm sure it would be the same if we decided to eat in. I liked the atmosphere. It was small but homely, clean, and there were a few small fish tanks in the corner! 15-ish minutes later, food packed up - I jumped back in the car and we drove down to South Shore Market in Ward to eat at the tables and take a glance if Ocean Taste's line was... long (it was). And let me tell you... the food? Delicious. The amount of food? Good for the price! And overall pretty darn great experience. I wasn't the biggest fan of the spicy pork (not my preference). But my fiancé liked it and his only comment was that it was a bit greasy for his liking. Reminded him he was in-fact eating spicy pork which is normally served on his plate lunch in a piece of tinfoil so the oil doesn't get everywhere! The carne asada was super delish along with the gochujang hot sauce cups we found at the bottom of the bag. I'd get K-Mex HI again if I was in the area but I'd love to see them in another location where I can more easily park!
