Birria ramen (consomme served separately)
Lauren G.

Ambiance on my visit was bad. Perhaps they are undergoing renovation, but the restaurant was half full of those materials, so there were only 4 tables all crammed by the windows. Very uncomfortable and unwelcoming. The Latin music playing made it a little better. All the food is served takeout style even if you're dining in. That might have been ok for tacos, but for the ramen, it diminished the experience. I think I got the same amount of onions as I did beef, plus the onions in the consomme... waaaaay too much onion. They also serve crispy tortilla strips as a ramen topping. The noodles were good and the beef was great. Bottom line: I think this place has more to offer, so I'd come back but definitely order the tacos.

Been coming to La Birria since 2022 when i tried it way back when for the first time at their truck right outside of Pearlridge. I been ecstatic ever since they opened this downtown location since I live in town and used to make the trip all the way to Aiea for these tacos lol . I hope this location never moves because it feels amazing having them just blocks away since i crave the tacos every other day ( im not kidding btw ) . This is the BEST spot to get authentic delicious birria on the island , im telling you! Meat is so favorable and juicy and the cheese, onions and cilantro just come together. I don't know why it took me long to make a review on here but either way I finally did haha. I got the tacos since it's been long overdue and i been craving .. also i ordered the hellfire tacos along side the queso pack and WOW. I definitely underestimated the spice level butttt it was a powerful delicious kick! So glad i gave it a try finally today. I haven't tried their horchata yet but i will make sure i do on my next visit! Shoutout to La Birria for always satisfying my cravings , yall are the MVP!!

The ramen and tacos are to die for!! Super nice staff and will be going back soon! The pricing is slightly high but once you taste the food you will be more than willing to go back!

Hands down the best Birria Tacos. We were downtown and craving tacos so we went with La Birria. I've been to their food truck at Pearlridge but they also have a restaurant downtown. Service was great and quick. We ordered the Birria Queso Pack, pickled jalapeños, added ramen, and the cold brew horchata. Everything was on point. The cold brew horchata is super refreshing, especially if you're a coffee lover. It's got that nice cinnamon horchata flavor mixed with cold brew. The best part for me was pouring the consommé into the ramen bowl. Such a genius combo. Definitely coming back.

Went here for lunch and it turned out to be a nice casual lunch. I had the Hell Fire burrito and that was too spicy for my stomach to handle. The burn lingered for a while and gave me acid reflux for two days. Don't recommend anyone with gastrointestinal issues to try it. I can eat very spicy, but it's not the natural spice therefore created issues for me. Tasted good tho so i will definitely come back and try the regular version. The strawberry horchata was delicious and good level of sweetness. I don't drink sweet drinks so it's a tad too sweet for me and I still enjoyed it. The service was friendly but the music was on too loud. I couldn't hear my conversation so i had to move further away from the speakers. Overall, nice stop for lunch as they are not crowded.

The most legit Birria and consommé I've ever had. I got the Birria Queso Pack which has three Birria tacos and consommé. They disappeared so fast, and I drank what was left of the consommé. The strawberry horchata was such a treat. Bursting with flavor and such a treat. I must have this again.

The restaurant was clean and the air conditioning was very cool. Take-out or indoor seating type of place. The Strawberry Horchata was the perfect amount of sweetness, creamy, and with real strawberry. I could taste cinnamon and vanilla. 10/10...so good! I also got the Barria Queso Pack. I asked for no onions but my order ended up having onions in it. The cook was the same person the rung me up. He was really kind and friendly. He even open the door for me as I exited. I would definitely go back again.

I was referred to La Birria by the guys working at the AC Marriott Hotel. Love the fact that they are friendly and open late, especially when you need a quick snack or just having a late dinner. It's a takeout only spot and you order at the door. The 3 tacos I ordered were delicious and they had just the right amount of meat (minus the cheese). They normally come with mozzarella cheese, cilantro and onions with shredded beef. The dipping sauce was good too and you definitely won't run out. Make sure you have some napkins for the dipping sauce. They do not have any sodas, tea coffee, etc..so I recommend getting your own unless you want horchata. I will definitely eat there again!!

Sometimes I like to walk to fort street from my office and let my feet tell me where we eating for lunch. LOL...MANY times it's lead me to La Birria. I've grabbed a plate to go from here maybe 6-7 times since they opened. But todayyyyys birria tacos were so good I had to leave a review. Birria Queso pack & some strawberry horchata are my go-tos! IDK what was in today's batch but LITERALLY THE BEST BIRRIA TACOS I've ever had in my whole life ‍ were consumed today. Flavorful, juicy & thick- just the way it's suppose to be! Even consuming like 20mins after picking up, it was so good! Service is great, & food to match. Highly recommend!

Lunch in Downtown Honolulu, Hawaii... I saw this Hot New Business on Instagram and had to try it! La Birria has a Food Truck in the parking lot of Pearlridge, but the thought of outdoor dining with the wind and exhaust fumes from cars passing by is not appealing. Plus, dipping my tacos in consommé requires a table and a clean, stable environment since this will be a very messy process... That's why this Fort Street Mall location is perfect! It's kind of busy during lunchtime since many office workers (and even police officers) stop by for dining-in or takeout. I got the Birria Queso Pack (three tacos with cheese), which comes with consommè and a wedge of lime. It was a bit spicy for me, but the shredded meat was tasty and tender! There were finely diced onions in it that provided some texture and more flavor. The edges of the corn tortilla had a slight crunch... yum! The cheese pull was fun, too! I also got a Strawberry Horchata, which was refreshing and helped calm my mouth! This drink has a cinnamon essence and is not watered down! Stop by if you're in the area! Tip: don't sit in the hot corner. Make sure you can feel the air conditioning because the door is left open.

BEST tacos I've ever had. The birria was soo tasty and the tacos were crispy with lots of delicious filling. I wish I could write more but I finished all 3 tacos all within the time it took me to write this review. I'm dreaming about the next time already ;)

12 pack birria tacos

TLDR: La Birria's new Downtown Honolulu location serves authentic, flavorful birria tacos with complex consommé. The 12-pack ($48) is pricey but worth it for the quality, and takeout service is quick and efficient. Full review: We grabbed takeout from La Birria's brick-and-mortar spot on Fort Street Mall in Downtown Honolulu (they opened in September 2024). This place started as a food truck at Pearlridge and has built a serious following. I ordered their 12-pack of birria tacos ($48) - admittedly on the pricier side at nearly $5 per taco after tax, but these aren't your average tacos. Each one came perfectly crispy, generously filled with tender, flavorful meat, and accompanied by their rich, complex consommé for dipping. The tacos were still piping hot when I got home, which is impressive for takeout. What makes these stand out is Chef Arturo Silva's authentic recipe (he's from Mexico City and previously opened Buho Cocina). The depth of flavor in both the meat and the consommé shows serious culinary skill. Each taco had that perfect balance of crispy exterior and juicy interior that makes birria tacos so craveable. The service was quick and efficient - I was in and out in under 10 minutes despite them being fairly busy. They've kept their menu focused on what they do best: birria tacos, hellfire tacos (with ghost pepper for heat lovers), and their birria ramen, which uses the same amazing consommé. If you're feeding a group or just want leftovers, the 12-pack is the way to go. While not cheap eats, the quality and authenticity make it worth the splurge for a satisfying takeout experience. Great for finishing up a night out in Chinatown!

The birria tacos are outstanding and the consommé is perfect. If you're nearby, give this place a try. Convenient to the AC Hotel just a block away.

If you've never tried the LC Fiesta burrito (under the specialty burrito section), TRY IT. You won't regret it. It comes with salad (simple yet satisfying). The corn soup is awesome as well. It comes with tortilla. While deciding our beverage, I was pointing to the Agua fresca, and AT (being attentive) brought us a cup of the strawberry one to try! This really surprised my wife and I. Such great service and it tasted very refreshing. AT also gave us a sheet of stickers for our toddler son who couldn't join us for lunch. Great ambiance, food, and service! The place is vibrant and fun. Once seated we were served chip and salsa immediately and WOOOW that was good. I had no idea what to order and kept going between the lunch specials (which are deals btw $12 for a not so "mini" burrito) but ended up with the carnitas plate and it came with rice, beans, pico, sour cream, and Guac. I asked for the carnitas to be extra crispy and it was sooo good. It came with a choice of corn or flour tortilla and i opted for corn. They wrapped 3 tortillas in foil and it stay nice and hot. The carnitas was crispy but not dry at all. My friends got the $12 lunch burrito and they only finished half. Another friend got the flauta and she enjoyed that as well. I got a horchata as well and it was soo yummy. I can't wait to come back and try other options with more people.

The hand-pressed corn tortillas are the foundation of everything here--warm, soft, and fresh, the kind that actually taste like something instead of just holding the filling. Pair that with their slow-braised meats and scratch-made salsas and you've got tacos that stand out in Honolulu. The carnitas are tender with those crispy edges, the carne asada is properly seared and seasoned, the pollo asado is flavorful without being dry, and the shrimp and Baja fish options are consistently excellent. Even the lengua holds its own for anyone who wants the real deal. Taco Tuesday is a must--$3 street tacos and BYOB make it an easy win for a casual night out. It is a small to mid sized spot, but still has a good amount of seating. Some window bar seats, and then about 6 tables with chairs and booth seats. The service style is similar to a take out spot (so very minimal), they do ask if you're dining in or taking out, but it seems like you order, seat yourself, and pick up your own food. They would wipe your table down per your request though. Also to note, they have a $3 taco Tuesday deal but it is ONLY for specific tacos AND only during specific hours on Tuesday. We weren't specifically going for the deal so it didn't matter to us, but manage your expectations if you were looking for a deal (esp since some of their tacos are quite pricey) We ordered: * Steak Quesadilla: 7.6/10 This was good, decently cheesy and the carne asada was pretty flavorful as well. * Carne Asada Taco: 7.2/10 Since it's the same steak as the quesadilla it was pretty good as well. I feel like the carne asada has more Asian flavors and spices than Hispanic. It was good regardless. * Carnitas Taco: 7/10 This was good too, similar to kalua pork. * Baja Fish Taco: 8.3/10 This was pretty solid. The fish tasted like it was good quality and the aioli (same as the camarones) was good pairing with the taco * Camarones Taco: 8.1/10 I liked this quite a lot, the cheese skirt brought a nice textual and flavor contrast to the rest of the taco, I also liked the aioli paired with it. If it had slightly more shrimp it would be even better * Horchata: 6/10, this was okay, kind of grainy. I enjoyed everything, my partner on the other hand thought most of the things were just okay. The only thing he really liked was the baja one. Also we would both note that instead of being topped with cilantro and onions, all the tacos had cabbage on top instead? (some had pico with it, some had a little bit of onion). I wouldn't mind coming back but I think my partner would rather not.

But we were looking for something different, quick, and tasty. That's what we got at K-Mex HI although to be quite frank - the parking lot here is terrible! Mostly due to their location in the middle of the street with a handful of street parking locations shared with multiple other businesses down the lane. It took us 3 rounds of driving before we ended up deciding it was better to drop me off to order and pick up the food and have my man drive around into another larger parking lot to wait the 15-ish minutes it would take for our food to be ready. The owners were so nice. Answering all of my insistent questions, smiling when I ended up ordering something different from what they recommended on the menu (my bad - it's a question I ask all businesses even though I usually decide what I want beforehand LOL). They asked if I needed a bag, if I needed utensils and napkins, and even checked in on me while they made the food! Awesome service and I'm sure it would be the same if we decided to eat in. I liked the atmosphere. It was small but homely, clean, and there were a few small fish tanks in the corner! 15-ish minutes later, food packed up - I jumped back in the car and we drove down to South Shore Market in Ward to eat at the tables and take a glance if Ocean Taste's line was... long (it was). And let me tell you... the food? Delicious. The amount of food? Good for the price! And overall pretty darn great experience. I wasn't the biggest fan of the spicy pork (not my preference). But my fiancé liked it and his only comment was that it was a bit greasy for his liking. Reminded him he was in-fact eating spicy pork which is normally served on his plate lunch in a piece of tinfoil so the oil doesn't get everywhere! The carne asada was super delish along with the gochujang hot sauce cups we found at the bottom of the bag. I'd get K-Mex HI again if I was in the area but I'd love to see them in another location where I can more easily park! That's the only real bummer about this place and has deterred me from returning. :(
