Carne Asada Burrito exactly how it was handed to me by Chef Oscar!
    Jazmenn B.

Honest review coming in HOT :D Quick Note: #cashonlylocation So the other day my ohana and I pulled up to this cute little wagon named Mayita's Grill with some Christmas music and yummy aromas coming out of it. I chatted for a bit with the chef inside I later learned was the owner (Oscar) he was so kind as to solely speak Spanish with me as requested as well as teach me some new phrases so that I can put my Spanish to some more real world use. Now to the food! My first impression was YUMMY! I got the Carne Asada Burrito and the flavor was definitely present not to mention I am a crispy gyal and the way he prepares his Carne makes the meat have some nice crispy exteriors so for me it was really pleasant. My fam all got different variations of the Birria options (Burrito & Quesadillas) I will admit the opposing comments that were among the bulk of us were how messy and essentially difficult to eat the burritos were without a fork (which would've only been an issue if we wanted to eat on the go) as well as the fact that there were no drink options and we all planned to eat at the location. Beyond those small things there were fresh tasting topping and yummy mild-medium salsas. Overall I had an amazing experience!

Carne Asadas (3 for $12, each taco actually comes with 2 tortilla shells, such a good deal)

Mayita's is a locally owned business located in a strip mall parking lot across Ala Moana. It is just the man himself working the taco trailer so expect to wait if there are already people in front of you. Worth it though. I always get the carne asadas - 3 for $12. My friend & I tried the carnita but the meat was a bit too dry. They also have jackfruit & chicken tacos. Tacos come with a good amount of meat. Sometimes you can add toppings yourself, other times he'll do it for you. There's onions, cilantro, lime, tomatoes & guac. The salsa verde sauce is so yummy with the tacos. Each taco comes with 2 tortilla shells so you basically get 6 mini tacos if you split them up which is what I do (comes with enough meat to ration). Most taco shops are only open during the day & I am a tacos-for-dinner girl so I'm glad Mayita's stays open til 10 pm. Thank you for fulfilling my taco cravings Mayita's!

I like how calm and nice the owner was making the food! He has lights and a table to dine at. The music is charming as well. I was riding past on my bicycle and was able to order my food and have it in my hand in 5 minutes. They have an assortment of sauces. But what really caught my attention was the HOMEMADE red salsa and green salsa. There is onion, limes, cilantro, jalapeños ect fresh cut out for us to grab from as well. All in all I was ECSTATIC to eat the food. Being a delicious truck I think he should invest in a Venmo QR code because the burrito was $14. I got the steak burrito because a loyal customer before me told me it is the best. It is rather long in length and a hefty burrito. Fresh ingredients inside and allowed the other condiments I added to blend together to create one of the best burritos I have had on island in 6 years.

I've seen this lil truck every night from Tuesday - Saturday. We live on the neighborhood nearby and everytime we walk the doggo the taco man truck is present. This is also the closest & easiest access to grab tacos. Onolicious tacos!!!! ~ Been grabbing tacos in here two times already and everytime, it doesn't disappoint us. No wonder sometimes or most of the night there's a queue in here, coz I know exactly how good the owner made those delish tacos. This lil truck sell not only taco but also quesadillas & burritos. Haven't tried them yet but next time will do. Portion serving is small though. It won't even make you full esp. the tacos. A bit pricey but maybe we'll consider it coz the tacos are good. ~ Customer service is good. The guy is friendly and is happy to answer your question/s, make and serve your order. You too should try this one. ~ Mahalo & HAPPY JUANDERING fellow yelpers!

Amazing quaint little cart selling the most delicious burrito I ve had in a while. Burrito i had was really unique, balanced, and flavorful. I absolutely loved the variety of toppings including the salsa that was offered The man running the cart was extremely sweet and hard working. His service has him a repeat customer! Whenever I can i like to stop by this cart.

Excellent food. It's the best authentic Mexican food I've had on the island so far. The spicy homemade salsa is my favorite.

Cutest little taco truck across from the Ala Moana hotel! CASH ONLY! Best birria i've had on island by far. Lots of authentic homemade sides: jalepenos, cilantro, onions, salsa verde, salsa rojo (which is amazing!!!) & the birria items come with a delicious little serving of consome! Taco tuesday special is $1 off birria items. Not on the menu but you can ask for a single birria taco (instead of 3) if you're just looking to try; there is also a little sink on the side of the truck by the table in case your meal gets a little messy :)

The BEST burrito i ever had. Walked down here yesterday to give it a try and I got the Carne asada burrito, and if I wasn't so full I would have went down to get a second one. Make sure you try the Chipotle salsa on the side with a bit of cilantro and lime. I'm going back today for seconds.

For a good taco, I will drive, walk, stand on the sidewalk, listen to a generator, and eat in the dark with my hands; and Mayita's Grill is turning out noteworthy tacos. Get the fresh Ahi Tacos seared if he has it. With homemade pico de gallo, guac, onions, cilantro and a squeeze of lime. These were super tasty and fresh. If there's no fish, the Carne Asada and Carnitas are also both good in their own right. And don't miss the homemade chipotle sauce which adds nice heat and flavor. Pour it into a burrito and dip your quesadilla in it to take both to the next level. We'll be back.

Okay the only bad thing about this place and why I'm only giving 4 stars was the wait. I know it's a little shack and the food was delicious, but we waited in the parking lot for right around an hour... having said that, this food was unbelievably good. We enjoyed the meal so much that even if we had to wait that long again, we said we'd be back. Honolulu doesn't have a great reputation with Mexican food so it's really nice to have a go to place! I hate to say it but this is worth the wait! Times are Tuesday through Saturday 5:45-10pm

Best tacos on the island hands down. I'm from LA and this is my little taste of home AUTHENTIC street tacos. Makes me so happy! Thank you Mayitas grill! Fuego!

First, being Hawaii, decent means not using pasta sauce to replace pico, not using shredded processed cheese, and not using refried beans from a can. Don't think of comparing this to that "authentic ethnic" spot in LA or the over border drunken stint in TJ. All the requisites from tortas, burritos, tacos, enchiladas, fajitas, sopas including pozole and menudo, on offer. Complimentary C&S, just OK. Kinda soggy chips and the watery salsa doesn't much depth despite being fire roasted and not much spice heat. No complaints on the basic rice and refried beans that accompanied the large, stuffed trio of chicken empanadas (usually comes with two, add an additional for $5). Flavorful enough but not that complex mole. They are finished off with some sour cream, raw onions and crumbled cotija. Solid. Fast, friendly service with servers who seem to know their regulars well. Fair pricing with almost everything sub $30. It is what it is. Not bad for Hawaii and works to scratch the Mexican itch.

But we were looking for something different, quick, and tasty. That's what we got at K-Mex HI although to be quite frank - the parking lot here is terrible! Mostly due to their location in the middle of the street with a handful of street parking locations shared with multiple other businesses down the lane. It took us 3 rounds of driving before we ended up deciding it was better to drop me off to order and pick up the food and have my man drive around into another larger parking lot to wait the 15-ish minutes it would take for our food to be ready. The owners were so nice. Answering all of my insistent questions, smiling when I ended up ordering something different from what they recommended on the menu (my bad - it's a question I ask all businesses even though I usually decide what I want beforehand LOL). They asked if I needed a bag, if I needed utensils and napkins, and even checked in on me while they made the food! Awesome service and I'm sure it would be the same if we decided to eat in. I liked the atmosphere. It was small but homely, clean, and there were a few small fish tanks in the corner! 15-ish minutes later, food packed up - I jumped back in the car and we drove down to South Shore Market in Ward to eat at the tables and take a glance if Ocean Taste's line was... long (it was). And let me tell you... the food? Delicious. The amount of food? Good for the price! And overall pretty darn great experience. I wasn't the biggest fan of the spicy pork (not my preference). But my fiancé liked it and his only comment was that it was a bit greasy for his liking. Reminded him he was in-fact eating spicy pork which is normally served on his plate lunch in a piece of tinfoil so the oil doesn't get everywhere! The carne asada was super delish along with the gochujang hot sauce cups we found at the bottom of the bag. I'd get K-Mex HI again if I was in the area but I'd love to see them in another location where I can more easily park!
