This review is based on our last three visits over the past month. My family has been coming here regularly for over five years, so it's disappointing to say that both the service and food quality have gone downhill. This used to be one of the best Thai spots in town, but now it's hit or miss. The food is either great or watery. The biggest frustration has been pickup times. They consistently tell us our order will be ready sooner than it actually is. Most recently, we were told 30 minutes, showed up on time, and then were told it would be another 30 minutes. What really annoyed me was hearing them tell people on the phone the same 30-minute estimate, even though there was already a long line of delivery drivers waiting. Clearly, that timeline wasn't realistic. When I brought it up, the response was basically, "Can't you see we're busy?" I understand being busy, but just be honest about wait times. We've supported this place for years and it sucks to see how little they value that. She repeated our order perfectly with no hesitation. No scratch tab or electronic devices., Impressive. The seating was comfortable. They did turn the lights on a few minutes after we were seated. This place has steadily gone downhill. We used to come here almost weekly. It used to be known for quality Thai food at reasonable prices, but those days are gone. Prices are up while quality has dropped. The King of Chili used to be our favorite, but on this visit it was super salty and the portion much smaller. Smaller portions at higher prices AKA "Shrinkflation". The chicken in the Chicken Shrimp Cabbage Salad was so dry and tough it could rival chicken jerky. They now charge a $5 corkage fee which would make sense if they served alcohol. But charging $5 just for giving me an extra glass is ridiculous. Part of the charm of this place was grabbing a bottle from Foodland next door to grind with my Thai food. Finally, when the table next to us mentioned a 3% credit card surcharge, I asked the server if that was true. She confirmed it was. When I asked why it wasn't disclosed upfront, she just shrugged. First time to this location and we ordered take out. Such a lovely interior with delicious food. The outside looks not so appealing but this is the case of don't judge a book by its cover. Once the door opens you notice the cozy interior, wonderful smells and the crowded tables but everything is very clean. Staff are super helpful for the undecided. We did a take out of spring rolls, curries, pad see ew. It was a twenty minute wait but that went by quickly. Food came out hot and fresh. We enjoyed the crispy spring rolls with the fried white wrapper. The yellow curry was so flavorful with turmeric flavoring. The red curry spicy with a kick. 1st time here my brother took us to lunch and he said Peter Y and some of the others yelpers went here. The food is okay but certain places I prefer the taste the way they make it. We had the spring rolls, pad thai noodles with shrimp, stuff chicken wings, ong choi with beef stir fried, and chicken fried rice. The spring rolls the wrapper was on the chewy side I prefer the wrapper to be thin and crispy. Maybe that's how they make it. The pad thai noodles was good, the stir fried ong choi with beef isn't like Chinese style but they make it with some kind of their sauce, the chicken fried rice was slightly bland, the stuff chicken wings was ok but I had better. I ordered on door dash to be delivered at my place of work. I ordered veggie/tofu stir fry. For 18 no rice, have to order separately for another 5 dollars. The flavor is good. I love the pad kee mao at this place because that's my favorite Thai dish of all time! Atmosphere - It's lively and they have around 4 tables in there so it's a bit small. Service - They provide what you need and will check in with you! Cost - Around $12 - $25 per dish that we got. Parking - It's in the Market City Shopping plaza next to Foodland so park anywhere there! They are also parking spots right in front of them but Foodland people can park there so wherever you can get parking. Location - It's next to Foodland and there's an Italian place right above them. I would definitely come here again for Thai food because they're always on point with my favorite dish. Stopped by at 8:14pm on a Wednesday night. They had 4 dine-in tables and a couple of takeout orders standing by and a handful of people coming in and out to pick up takeout. Ordered vegetable pad Thai noodles and the portion was great, the amount of noodles to vegetable ratio was generous however, I could immediately smell the hint of something being burnt. Why the hate with the reviews? The average rating is about right. The service is the biggest strength of the restaurant.. got good recommendations, very friendly and prompt. Food is pretty good with a few quirks. Pad Thai is good but a little too much gravy, not used to not having very little veggies and bean sprouts. Tom ga soup a tad too sour. This place deserves way higher reviews -- their food is elite compared to so many other Thai spots I've tried. The Lad Na (gravy noodles) might be the best I've ever had -- rich, flavorful, and easy to kick up the heat for that extra punch. The Crispy House Fried Chicken? Unreal. So crispy you can hear the crunch in every bite, and honestly, I could eat just that dish and be happy. The Panang curry is spot-on (perfect with sticky rice), and the cucumber salad is the refreshing balance to all those bold flavors. Expanding mom's palate... After a personal appointment I already knew I needed to take her for an early dinner but didn't want it to be the usual places just to keep things fun. Trying to keep small and local it was a challenge as she wanted to sit and relax versus doing a take out and though here at Thai Issan Cuisine. Located in the Market City Shopping Center right beside Foodland on the upper level, parking can be the biggest challenge though since we came early we did manage to find one easily and you know I was thrilled so that she doesn't flake out on me. Walking in this cozy restaurant we got the pick as it was empty so we sat right along the window as we enjoyed the lovely decor. There was so much that I was excited to order though we did keep it simple as I got the Vegetarian "Rad Nar" and decided to order for her the "Yellow Curry" and she wanted pork. It's funny as she says there's no prices on the menu explained that it's all the same in the category all you need to decide is on your proteins which is a nice and interesting concept to order. Thinking she may want to share I didn't get anything spicy my dish was filled with veggies atop chow fun noodles loaded with the house gravy which was very difficult to describe as it's so flavorful yet mellow with a hint of sour, sadly I though there was hardly any noodle in fact I though there wasn't any in there that I got concerned, veggies was cooked lightly and had a serious bite to it which I didn't mind but that house gravy was the winner and held it all perfectly. Mom's curry was stunning filled with pork and veggies she thoroughly enjoyed it along with a basket of sticky rice that I had to have her try, her curiosity to finally try the gravy from my dish got to her and she loved it and wished she could have a bowl of it herself lol! This was my 3rd and final time trying this restaurant. A colleague who was raised here told me the food used to be really good, so I gave it a shot. The first time I went, the beef salad was really good (the dressing was the perfect fish sauce/lime) so I went back the second time. Ordered the same thing. The veggies weren't fresh, dressing was lacking and the beef was super tough. I chalked it up to them having a bad day and went for lunch on NYE. I decided to try something different and ordered the Penang curry. It was virtually inedible. It was totally watery and flavorless, and it looked like they took week old green beans and tossed it and a handful of tough beef pieces into a runny soup. To add insult to injury, they charged me $4.50 for the bowl of rice that traditionally comes with curry, two dollars for the take out box because I figured I'd try ti salvage it at home, and a 3% surcharge for using a card. Almost $30 for the worst "curry" I've ever eaten. I shan't be returning. read more

By the time I get there it is usually ready! My favorites are the green curry, kee mao, papaya salad, and Tom kha. These are just order dishes, although I've ordered other dishes these I always come back too. The ambiance is always on the busy side with workers bustling and usually a few people dining in. This is our go-to Thai restaurant! It's always flavorful and delicious. Our son loves their Tom yum soup and their Tom yum fried rice is just as good! I also enjoy the chili fried rice and the kids love the house fried rice as well. Our favorite Thai spot. Tucked in the corner of Market City, next to Foodland, where you can barely see it unless you're looking for it, is Thai Issan. We've been coming regularly for years. It's a family run business and they are BUSY. Don't let an open table or two fool you into thinking that this place doesn't have its loyal following. When you dine in, there is a constant barrage of take out orders going out. But the family is still very friendly when they recognize us walking in the door and service is great. Anyway, food is excellent. Curries, fried chicken, spring rolls, pad kee mao/drunken noodles, evil princess, pad thai, fried rice, king of chili, we've had it all. It's all good. My only gripe is it really has gotten pricey lately. But such is life in Hawaii Nei. We've tried a number of menu items but always come back to the pumpkin curry and pad si ew. Both are consistently good and never fail to disappoint. Located in Market City shopping center in Kaimuki. Large parking lot, but it can get really busy and congested at times. Save yourself a headache and avoid coming during peak hours. Restaurant can also get really busy - so they might night answer the phone right away when you're calling in a take out order - but don't give up. Keep trying.
