I've always had a great meal at Basil Thai. Although it's been a few months and I was craving some good Thai food, so here I am. I ordered my usual two appetizers for my main course'; chicken satay and vegetables spring rolls. I added an extra order of peanut sauce for the satay because I can't get enough of it. It's still a five star in both service and food quality. Both dishes were excellent. The chicken was seasoned just right and again the peanut sauce was spot on. The spring rolls were hot, crispy and delicious. read more

Basil Thai is another small eatery located on Fort Street Mall, with space for no more than 20 people at a time, serving up hot and fresh Thai fair. I got the Pad see ew with chicken, which came out piping hot, full of vegetables, chicken, and wide rice noodles. Delicious and a good change from the other downtown lunch fair. Well seasoned without being salty or spicy. I'm also fairly certain the only place offering Pad See Ew is SEA Street Kitchen in the Arcade building short of going into Chinatown. They do tack on a credit card surcharge, so pay in cash if you can. Parking is downtown, so a mess. However it is close to the municipal lot on 35 North Beretania, so not too bad. Staff are polite, fast, and efficient. I did not see any bathroom for patrons. read more

Food: it was delicious! I ordered the basil eggplant stir fry with pork as protein (1 choice of protein comes with it). There wasn't much pork, more veggies.. it came with two scoops of rice. The sauce was yummy, but had a little too much fish sauce for me. A lot of flavor though. Also got the spring rolls - this I do NOT recommend because it tasted like oil..it was super oily. Yuck. Also got the Thai iced coffee, this was super yummy!! Water comes out in a metallic cup; not a fan of this because it alters the taste of the water... Service: one lady at the cashier and one cook. It looked like the cashier lady also helps cook when able to (not busy). They were both very nice and welcoming! Ambiance: not too many seats; however, they aren't super busy so it's fine... Three tables and 4 counter seats. Looks like they also sell wooden carved lamps. Didn't take a picture of them, but it's all over the restaurant for display. Overall this is nice quiet place with reasonably priced food. Would recommend. read more

went a little early which I thought would be good so it would be fast. Ordered the red + sticky. Went to Vicky's, ordered a bunch of stuff so took kinda long. Went back and they only just started making the curry. I like that it's fresh but I also like when the flavors are more thoroughly infused into everything. I also don't like waiting. Suggest calling in for take out. Choke veggies...could use more protein. i'm scared to get Thai hot, so I got Medium. I don't think that qualifies for Thai Medium. Maybe THai Mild-Medium. Maybe not even. I added my own Chili that I keep for special occasions. Sticky rice was sticky ish, but more just hard than chewy...separated once it hit the curry and stayed hard. Not my favorite. read more

This is easily my favorite Thai restaurant ever. The waiter was friendly and efficient. The food is so good and fresh, the flavors are amazing. Prices are very fair (honestly cheaper than the places I've been on the mainland). We had the papaya salad which was so refreshing and crunchy. The chef had a mango curry on special that was so creamy and delicious. The sticky rice was good too. The pad Thai is the best I've ever had! Love all the fresh veggies. The space is small but very clean and well kept, serving plates are very nice with good presentation. Already planning our next visit here to try more dishes! read more

Absolutely phenomenal. Basil Thai was the final meal of our Hawai'i vacation. We were exploring downtown while waiting for our flight and stumbled upon the Hawai'i pacific university area which this restaurant is located. The menu is full of familiar Thai dishes, but the flavors go beyond other Thai restaurants I have visited. The owner is the cook and her kitchen is in view of the customers. It's as if she has invited you into her home. The interior is small but sufficient. The service is just as stellar as the food. According to the server, the tableware is from Thailand adding to the incredible experience. If I lived here, I would be their most frequent customer. It was delicious, welcoming and inspiring. Thank you for feeding me with love read more

Basil Thai hit the spot for a cozy, flavorful Thai dinner. Everything tasted fresh, well-seasoned, and you can tell they actually care about balance in their dishes. The crab wontons were a great start - super crispy with a generous, crab-forward filling instead of just cream cheese, and the dipping sauce had a nice sweet-sour punch that didn't feel overly syrupy. The Thai fried rice was exactly what you want from comfort Thai: smoky wok flavor, well-seasoned, and not greasy, with each grain separate instead of clumpy. The standout for me was the khao soi - rich, coconutty curry broth with just enough heat, tender noodles, and a good mix of textures from the crispy noodles on top. The eggplant stir fry was another winner: perfectly soft eggplant that soaked up the sauce without falling apart, with a savory-garlicky flavor and just a touch of sweetness. Service was friendly and efficient, with food coming out hot and well-paced. Portions were solid for the price, and it's the kind of place you leave already planning what to try next time. Would definitely come back for the khao soi and eggplant alone. read more

They are gonna get tired of seeing my name pop up as an online order! I've ate here twice in a week it's just THAT DANG GOOD. Restaurant is small, & gets hot easily- but the food is absolutely DELICIOUS. 1st time I got my usual go to : Pad Kee Mao (Drunken Noodles) w/chicken, medium heat. Today I got the same, but Hot heat...& also got Panang Curry (chicken, medium heat) which came with jasmine rice. LET ME TELL YOU: the Drunk Noodz were AHMAZING & the curry....*chefs kiss* easily both were the BEST IVE EVER HAD. (Made sure to tell chef/owner that b4 leaving lol)! I like to over order so it becomes 3 meals , no regrets what so ever. I suggest calling in your order or ordering online as she makes each order on the spot & it may take a little while. Highly recommended!! read more

Just finished an AMAZING lunch here. This is the real deal Thai/lao restaurant. We had spring rolls, green papaya salad, tom yum, and panag curry with sticky rice. Service is outstanding, ambience great, and people watching on fort street mall adds an element. We will be back! read more

When you see a line out the door you know it's gonna be good. Decided to try this new thai spot for lunch. We had just beat a huge lunch rush and got our order in just in time. The spot is small - only a few tables to sit at. Initially we were going to dine in, but since they have an open kitchen, the restaurant inside was way too hot. We decided to do takeout and eat nearby at Pioneer plaza instead. We ordered the panang curry and pad kee mao - order was ready in 15 minutes. If you're in a rush, you might want to try to call in an order so you don't have to wait. The curry comes with regular rice - so the price is a great deal these days. I thought the food portions were generous and worth the price for sure! The Pad kee mao was our favorite - and it was made with thick, chewy noodles that was seasoned perfectly in my opinion. The curry was also great and came in a big 1 lb poke container - we could barely finish half! Love that there is a new thai spot in downtown and I will be back to try more! read more

Food was excellent and delicious. Staff was very friendly and helpful. The best Thai food we found in town.

New Thai restaurant in downtown that is open later than other establishments in the area! Ordered take out a few times in the last 2 months for my family Got their noodle dishes which I really enjoyed! My parents liked their fried rice with shrimp. Loved their mango sticky rice as well as their ice cream lumpia dessert Recommend calling in your order read more

Delicious food and good prices. Enjoyed the Pad Tai, Chicken Satay and Green Papaya salad. Service was prompt and friendly.

The best Thai restaurant to eat at locally especially if you live in Chinatown visiting the area! This restaurant is decorated simple but clean. The prices are really great and the food is always perfectly prepared and definitely delicious! I'm a curry girl myself so that's what I I usually order along with the spring rolls and my husband ordered something that's not on the menu but they make it anyway it's called Lochner. Located at Fort Street Mall so it's very convenient to go to from my condo. The restaurant has grown in leaps and bounds as far as the amount of people that discovered this delicious food. The owner, a wonderful woman from Thailand that is so kind and gentle spirited. I always feel welcome there. read more

We have ordered take out from here quite a bit since their opening in Downtown Honolulu. Everything we have had is tasty and we want to try everything on the menu. Portions are okay. When you order noodles and rice dishes portions are pretty generous. The appetizers seem a little small for the price points and if may not be enough you are sharing with a group. read more

Their prices were so reasonable, yet the quantity was well portioned. The prices taste was spot on, delicious! The pork was not rubbery like others. I like the quantity of spring rolls, 4total. The owners were nice people to cancel 2 Dashpass orders that had a computer glitch, accepts order while still browsing. Will definitely order again. read more

I was pleasantly surprised to find this new restaurant on Fort St. Mall and decided to try them out for a late lunch on a Saturday. Bottom line -- they're good! About $15 for basil eggplant with chicken and jasmine rice. Compared to Bangkok Chef (my go-to for Thai takeout), I think you get a little less and it costs a little more, but the food is more restaurant quality. Service is also great. The server was super friendly, and the food came out pretty fast. I'll definitely be going back! read more

Absolutely some of the best authentic Thai food that we've had in a long time . We had the thai soup with the lemongrass and coconut milk, perfect combination of spices & yellow curry which was equally scrumptious. Our friend raved about the thai fried rice that he had. The service was excellent and we didn't have to wait long for the food to arrive . We live on the other side of the island but this is a place that is well worth the drive. We're definitely coming back read more

Delicious food! I work in town and I love that I can sit in the restaurant and enjoy my lunch. The workers are all very friendly.

You need to go here with some time on your hand because if its a long line then youll have to wait but its soo worth it! Their yellow curry is especially amazing and so hearty and yummyy. I have also ordered multiple times the wontons, fried rice and stir fry. They cook it fresh so that makes it even more worth it! read more

The food was delicious. The service was excellent! We had cashew nut with chicken and Tom Yum Soup. Ice cold glass are nice touch.

Small restaurant but has 3 tables that fit 4 people each and a small table outside for 2 people, pricing is matched well with the portions and we actually had a lot leftover (we are a family of 3 but I'm usually the biggest eater ). The flavor of the different foods brought me back to my trips to Thailand (Been to Pattaya, Bangkok and all over Issan). Definitely coming back again, I would highly suggest giving this place a try, your palate may be different from mines, but like they say "You'll never know if you don't try". Enjoy and Khob Khun Krap read more

Maybe I missed a couple signs, but first and last time eating here. I told them it was my first time there; which wasn't enough to tell I had not paid attention to the hours or that I didn't know there were no seats to eat on site. Probably my fault for not looking for any signs but I asked/found out after I had paid for my meal and had given a tip too. I was told there was no dining in at this location. They were probably closing up earlier today as they were cleaning up so I understand. The food was good as I waited to do the review after I had eaten. I decided to try here on a whim and it is not going to be a place I revisit since I rarely come to this area read more
