My wife ordered her normal when we go to eat at any Vietnamese restaurant the pho with tendon, which when it came I tried the broth and it was on the sweeter side and seemed it was more watery then flavorful which she agreed the broth didn't have the body of a good pho. The spicy pork ribs were okay, but it wasn't spicy, but had a nice flavor. The service is slow and if you don't let them know, you can sit there for a while before anyone comes back to check on your table. They have only street meter parking or public parking. Zero accountability, don't waste your time. I placed an online order, arrived early to pick it up, and stood there for over 15 minutes watching the staff walk around and tend to other things -- not once did anyone acknowledge me or check in. After all that waiting, someone finally came up and asked for my name and order like I'd just walked in. Then a woman -- who I watched walking around the restaurant the entire time I was there -- came up to tell me they had been "calling me" to let me know they were out of sandwiches. I was standing right there. In the restaurant. For 15+ minutes. No phone call. No one approached me. Nothing. When I pointed that out, instead of apologizing or taking any accountability, she doubled down and told me they were out of sandwiches "either way" and that I'd have to cancel my order. That's it. No apology, no alternative offered, no acknowledgment that their story didn't add up. This is unacceptable. If you're out of an item, be honest about it -- don't fabricate a story about phone calls that never happened. I'll be disputing this charge and will not be returning. We were on the hunt for a dish my husband likes "Clay Pot Pork". A friend's recommendation was Pho Vietnam, it is located on the left corner of Smith and Hotel Street. For parking it's street metered parking. You could park at any of the other parking lots but if you want to be closer, then metered parking it is. Just in case for location, it's across from Lucky Belly. I ordered my usual "Pho w/Tendon" and my husband ordered the Clay Pot Pork. Of course my meal came out first; clay pot takes about 15 minutes to cook. The Pho looked really good, the aroma was great, but when I took a taste of the broth :-(..... I was so sad, it didn't have that nice heavy bone broth taste instead it was very bland. I added some fish sauce and shiracha to give it some depth in flavor. One positive note - the pieces of Tendon were a nice size. You didn't need to "search" for the tendon like I have had to at other restaurants. The atmosphere was nice, the music wasn't too loud, and the staff seemed nice. While having our dinner, the restaurant began to get busy, guess it's a Friday night rush. read more

Great spot for a late-night bite in downtown Honolulu, especially since not many places stay open past 9pm. Their vermicelli bowl is fire! I ordered mine with grilled pork and a spring roll, and it was so good. Prices are unbeatable for the portion size and quality, and the food feels very authentic. I'm from Los Angeles where there's a lot of very good Vietnamese places around where I live. Pho Vietnam really surprised us with how authentic their broths tasted especially for Hawaii. I first tried the pho (I was hungover) and I was able to stomach the entire bowl. The other girls in my group ordered the BBH. it was so good that we ended up going back for lunch right before our flight. I ordered the bun rieu just to try it because I prefer bun rieu over BBH. it's solid, but I would still say their BBH was the tastiest out of the 3. Service was good/quick. I've been coming here with my family ever since I was a child. My dad grew up in Vietnam and this is one of his favorite go-to Vietnamese places in Chinatown. The menu at this place genuinely can't be beat. It has everything: pho, bánh mì, vermicelli dishes, even Thai dishes and hot pot! The prices are very reasonable and I haven't found a single thing here I didn't like yet. When I'm feeling fancy I always go for #61 (vermicelli with grilled pork and fresh herbs, mam bún cha Hà Nội ). It comes in a beautiful plate and always hits the spot! Their Vietnamese iced coffee (#3, ca phê sữa đá) is also the best Vietnamese iced coffee I think you can find on this island. The servers are always super welcoming and love to help me learn more Vietnamese. This is one of my favorite places in Chinatown and I really hope it gets the love it deserves. read more

I usually order #37 (Bun Kho), vermicelli with spring roll and grilled pork for $17 but this time I tried #16 (Goi) Jellyfish salad, also $17. My co-workers ordered #37 and an off the menu dish, Beef Stew with egg noodles. The latter dish is hearty and surprisingly good! I've ordered jellyfish salad from other places in downtown Honolulu and the one from Pho Vietnam is the best as it was primarily comprised of jellyfish. At another place up the street, I only found two pieces of jellyfish atop my mainly sliced cabbage / julienned vegetable salad. If you want a table, you should show up before 11:30am as we've often had to go somewhere else due to it being full. Highly recommended! read more

Had takeout bath mi (pork). It was okay, just okay. The bread was crispy, just crispy but I've had others where the outside was crispy and the inside soft. But it was okay. I loved the Chinese parsley (cilantro). I know some people think it tastes soapy but I love it so much I grow it. There was pickled carrots and daikon and fresh cucumbers- love the veggies. Thought there was a green pepper but it turned out to be the edge of a jalapeño-if I'd known I would have definitely taken it out. I like a little heat but this was more heat than I enjoy, took the rest out. The barbecue pork was okay. If there was pate I did not see it or taste it. I've been coming here so often with my son and friends it's our go-to spot for comfort food and good vibes. The crab noodle soup is next level flavorful, rich, and full of love. I'm also obsessed with their fresh spring rolls, nem, and summer rolls so refreshing and tasty. This is where my parents get their weekly pho fix -- no negotiations. I join them every now and then if I am in the area. Parking can be a little tricky since it's street-only, but there are public parking garages nearby that are usually a good option. I love pho, but I can never finish a bowl here -- the portions are huge. They're especially known for their hot stone pho (you'll see how big it is in the pics), but even the regular pho comes in medium, large, and extra-large -- definitely a great bang for your buck. My personal favorite is the duck bamboo noodle soup. They serve the duck on the side. In the broth, they have bamboo shoots and (I believe) duck blood with the noodles. It's sooo good -- I highly recommend trying it. It's my go to dish if you're a duck lover. One tip: I'd suggest sitting closer to the front. If you sit in the back, you might get overlooked by the servers unless you call them over. read more

My husband came here twice already and we've only been living here for 2 months! The soups are so savory and delicious and the staff are wonderful! I got the bun bo hue and my husband got the pho and immediately when we had a sip of our broth, our eyes both lit up because it was good- it reminded us of a home cooked hug in a bowl of soup. We both loved that each bowl of soup had all the fixins that we're use to when we eat it at home and all their veggies that was given to us was fresh with a crisp crunch! We took my MIL there and she loved it as well- we can't wait to come back for more! The restaurant isn't huge but it has a good enough space- when you come during the weekend, it's super busy but when you go during the week, it's not terrible. Pho Vietnam is my parents go-to spot anytime they want to eat out. I must agree the food is very good. The staff is nice and the restaurant is clean. I know it's in the name, pho, but I haven't tried it here yet. I'm always drawn to the other dishes. Growing up with a viet culture, my parents would cook all various dishes that are nostalgic to me. So this is a great spot to fulfill those cravings especially now that my parents are older. The tray of special combo comes with the veggie and meat assortment. You're also provided hot water and rice paper with a side of fish sauce. It's a version of summer roll, but you make your own. There is a lot so this is fantastic for sharing. The durian smoothie is so yummy. I get that not everyone loves the smell, but it's creamy and fresh. The vermicelli bowl is simple, but fish sauce brings it all together to make it taste amazing. The crab noodle soup is one of my favorites, a must try if you haven't had it before. They do have a large party gratuity of 18% for 6 or more. Which is pretty much the norm. I've been to Pho Vietnam for a few times for lunch with the lunch bunch and it's one of those spots that fills up pretty quickly once lunch hour hits as it is a popular spot in Chinatown. The ambiance can get a bit loud as there are a lot of people ready to eat a nice meal. I'm a seafood pho kinda gal and theirs is consistently good. The broth has a nice savory depth, the seafood is cooked perfectly, and the noodles are easy to pull apart and slurp up or place in the soup spoon to add some hoisin, chili, or sriracha for added flavor. The toppings are also fresh too. Crispy bean sprouts, fragrant basil and culantro leaves, lemon, and jalapenos. Everything comes together really well in the bowl. Now why the 3 stars? The downside to this: service and parking. Parking in Chinatown is always hectic; you'll either have to hunt for a metered stall on the street or find a paid parking lot or structure nearby. Service here is a hit or miss. Most of the time, its okay but not great. There were a few times where the server would mix up our order. The last visit, I asked for the seafood pho (even pointed and gave the number on the menu) but they brought me oxtail pho instead. Went here for lunch a little after 1pm and I expected it to be crowded with people since a lot of reviews and people mentioned how it's packed daily. To my surprise there were only 5 tables there with a lot of seats open. My mom wanted to try this spot out since a tiktoker she watches raved about this place so it's safe to say we both had high expectations for this spot. Unfortunately it was our first time here and the experience fell short. We took a minute figuring out what to order since they had a big menu and everything looked delicious so I'll give them that. And their menu looked nice,organized,and pretty. You don't see a lot of that especially in Asian establishments these days. I was torn between regular pho since that's my go to in Vietnamese cuisine or the Banh Xeo since it's something I always wanted to try. I went with the Beef Ball Pho since that's my go to pho order, and got it medium. Everyone was right , the medium is actually pretty big. The portion was big for the size so that's a plus for me. The beef ball pho tasted like any other pho restaurant I been too so I wasn't blown away but it tasted good. And the spring rolls were delicious, I was confused by the menu since it stated the spring roll comes in 3 pieces but they gave 6 , I'm not complaining because I love me some spring rolls and can eat a ton , I just found that part to be misleading in the menu. My mom ordered the Chicken Pho and also got spring rolls. The chicken in her pho was dry and ruined the pho, it was bland no taste. So she was pretty unhappy since she had high hopes. My friends and I work nearby and decided to give Pho Vietnam a try for lunch. We didn't make reservations, and it was pretty busy on a Tuesday for lunch. The restaurant is pretty big, so we didn't have to wait to get a table. I got the medium brisket pho, and it was a huge portion! This was the smallest size, I couldn't imagine how much food would be in the larger sizes. The brisket was a little on the tougher side, and the meat had way too much fat for my liking. The noodles were a good texture. I would be open to trying some of their other items. The service was a little on the slower side, which is totally understandable considering how crowded they were. Bon Bo Hue is legit, authentic taste and flavor. Generous herbs as a topping like banana flower, beans sprout, mint, jalapeños and lemon. I do like mine more spicy, they do have chill oil as a condiment. They also have the garlic chili and Sriracha. The fat, round rice noodles is cooked perfectly and it goes well with the spicy broth. It is rich and savory. I also ordered the crispy egg roll, so crunchy outside and moist and flavorful inside. Dont forgot to have the Vietnamese Coffee. Service staff are efficient. Just be ready to order as soon as they hand you a menu. They are fast. The dining area is a bit cramped, with table very close together just to maximize the space. OMG! I gotta say that this place is bomb! It gets pretty busy tho so they may seat you with other parties. The food was so tasty and just a def must try. I'm always looking for authentic bun bo hue with all the fixings and they sure had it! It was soooooo good! I'm hoping to try their other dishes too! Service: You may not get your warm and bubbly service but the staff is very efficient. Since they're usually busy, they try to take your order quickly. You may want to know what you want to order in advance, as it can take time for your order to come out if they're busy. Phos come out quite quickly, but plates may take longer. Lunchtime, ~12-1pm, is their busiest, and there may be a waiting line. Price $-$$: One of the best bang-for-your-buck pho places on the island. The quality and quantity of food you get with your order make this one of my family's favorite Vietnamese restaurants on the island. ~$14-15 for their small size phos and $19-20 for their large size. I miss the days when pho was ~$10, but comparatively, to other pho restaurants, $15 is not bad for the regular/ small size, especially with the amount of beef/toppings they give. Food: Our family really loves their pho broth. It's not overly sweet like some other pho restaurants. Orders also come with ample basil, vegetables, bean sprouts etc. We normally order the pho specials with beef brisket on the side and love the amount and variety included (tendons, tripe, etc., beef balls, etc.).
