Did not do a great job at snapping pictures because I was too quick to dig in! But we ate there for lunch and had a meatball pho, pork and spring roll vermicelli bowl, side spring rolls, and also a huge platter that was a sort of build your own summer roll! Pho was nice and broth was light. The highlight was the summer roll platter. They give you a side of rice paper and hot water which you then dip into to soften it up. The platter came with beef, pork patties, pork, chicken, and an onslaught of veggies to throw in. Very fun and filling and for $35 totally worth it to share for the table. I only got a picture of pho, but next time I'm back I'll get some pictures! Stop by this place in Chinatown! read more

It's hot and sticky summertime, and we were marketing in Chinatown for ingredients to make Chinese jelly noodles or liangfen 凉粉. I had the choice of either using fresh mung beans or mung bean starch, but chose to look for the mung bean starch as the jelly noodles would turn out to be more appealing-looking, white and transparent/translucent. Luckily, I already had the black vinegar, Szechuan peppercorns, and chili oil needed for the sauce in my home pantry, so when the shop owner asked what other ingredients I needed, I told her I only needed the mung bean starch. As we returned to our car on Smith Street along Hotel Street, our stomachs started growling and pleading like the Little Shop of Horrors carnivorous plant, Audrey II, "Feed Me, Feed Me." I spotted Pho Vietnam at the corner of N Hotel and Smith Streets and suggested we try them since we had seen them recently featured on a local news program. Entering the crowded, somewhat noisy, and clean restaurant, an older woman clearing a table gestured to welcome us in. As we took our seats, another younger woman greeted us, brought us menus, and glasses of iced water. We informed her that this was our first visit and that we needed a few minutes to decide on our meal, but quickly ordered two iced Vietnamese coffees, cà phê sữa đá, $6 each. Meanwhile, I chose a bowl of Crab Noodle Soup (Bún Riêu) $18, and my husband selected a plate of Crispy Fried Saimin with Seafood (Mì xào giòn/ phở áp chảo hải vị) $20. Within moments of ordering, the younger woman brought us our delightfully sweetened iced coffees, a generous plate of fresh herb and vegetable garnishes (đĩa rau sống) for my noodle soup, and eating utensils. While waiting, we glanced around the crowded restaurant and noted the generous food portion sizes at others' tables. Our hunger was also enticed by the colorful menu food photos adorning the restaurant interior. FOOD: - Crab Noodle Soup (Bún Riêu): the bún riêu was served in a huge and deep bowl. Its "signature" clear, savory crab-and-fermented-shrimp-paste base and rock-sugar-sweet, tomato-reddish broth were served piping hot over rice vermicelli noodles and topped with crab cakes, shrimp, pork hock, Vietnamese ham, pork blood cakes, tofu, wedges of fresh tomatoes, and herbs. I thought the broth could've been a bit more crab-tasting and less sweet but still, this bún riêu was tasty. Each time I dug out some noodles, the portion didn't seem to lessen as if there was an endless amount of noodles. Also, the fresh herbs and vegetable garnishes were cleanly-washed, crisp, and added texture and more flavors. $18 - Crispy Fried Saimin with Seafood (Mì xào giòn/ phở áp chảo hải vị): the plate of crispy fried noodles was topped with assorted seafood (mainly shrimp, calamari, and fishcake) and vegetables (cabbage, Chinese broccoli, carrots, mushrooms, and cilantro). The bed of fried noodles topped with the seafood mixture sat atop a pool of light-colored gravy. My husband was pleased that the crispy noodles weren't drowned by the gravy and kept their crispy texture almost until he finished his plate. He did find the broccoli somewhat stringy or woodsy tough. $20 Still, the service was friendly and the restaurant's cleanliness and location in Chinatown is convenient. The food portions were generous to be considered a good value, but we thought the flavors were too sweet for our tastebuds. I'd return and try their Huế Spicy Beef Noodle Soup (bún bò Huế) and or Vietnamese Crêpe (bánh xèo). read more

Vermicelli with spring rolls and BBQ pork is my go-to Vietnamese dish, and this one was delicious. The pork was flavorful, the spring rolls had a nice crunch, and the roasted chopped peanuts added great texture. I like spicy food, so I added some black bean sauce and it definitely kicked it up a notch. The Vietnamese coffee was refreshing and balanced, not too sweet. Huge menu too, so there are a lot of things I'd like to try on the next trip. Good service. Good ambiance. read more

Ordered Pho Dac Biet (the special) and the broth is clear yet tasty. Overall the meats were tender, with the hardest to chew being the flank steak. +1 for the chili crunch/chili oil. Located on the corner of Smith Street & Hotel street in downtown Chinatown. We went there to try the spicy clay pot with pork which was recommended by a friend. My wife ordered her normal when we go to eat at any Vietnamese restaurant the pho with tendon, which when it came I tried the broth and it was on the sweeter side and seemed it was more watery then flavorful which she agreed the broth didn't have the body of a good pho. The spicy pork ribs were okay, but it wasn't spicy, but had a nice flavor. The service is slow and if you don't let them know, you can sit there for a while before anyone comes back to check on your table. They have only street meter parking or public parking. Restroom was okay they have men & women restrooms. read more

Great spot for a late-night bite in downtown Honolulu, especially since not many places stay open past 9pm. Their vermicelli bowl is fire! I ordered mine with grilled pork and a spring roll, and it was so good. Prices are unbeatable for the portion size and quality, and the food feels very authentic. Definitely a go-to in the area! read more

I've been coming here with my family ever since I was a child. My dad grew up in Vietnam and this is one of his favorite go-to Vietnamese places in Chinatown. The menu at this place genuinely can't be beat. It has everything: pho, bánh mì, vermicelli dishes, even Thai dishes and hot pot! The prices are very reasonable and I haven't found a single thing here I didn't like yet. When I'm feeling fancy I always go for #61 (vermicelli with grilled pork and fresh herbs, mam bún cha Hà Nội ). It comes in a beautiful plate and always hits the spot! Their Vietnamese iced coffee (#3, ca phê sữa đá) is also the best Vietnamese iced coffee I think you can find on this island. The servers are always super welcoming and love to help me learn more Vietnamese. This is one of my favorite places in Chinatown and I really hope it gets the love it deserves. read more

My mom got the pho and she said it was ok. Thé Banh mi my husband got was lacking in flavor and meat. My nem noung Springvale roll didn't have the crispy piece you usually get and the dipping sauce was just peanut sauce. Not enough meat to justify the price. Service was good and it is good for sit down or take out. Just the food is not great of you're looking for authentic Vietnamese food read more

Had their Bun Bo Hue, pretty good. Good ingredients and tender meats, flavor had depth, good spice level. I'm hoping to try their other dishes next time. It's a spot where I saw a lot of Asians were dining at, also it's recommended by an acquaintance of mine who's Vietnamese, so there must be a reason? Also love how they have a whole page of vegan selections! That's amazing! I'll try some of those next time too. Hopefully it's good. The service was friendly. The food also came pretty quickly. The restaurant was quite spacious and there were maybe 15-20 tables inside. It drew quite a bit lunch crowd during the week. I can't imagine how it's like during the weekend! read more

I'm from Los Angeles where there's a lot of very good Vietnamese places around where I live. Pho Vietnam really surprised us with how authentic their broths tasted especially for Hawaii. I first tried the pho (I was hungover) and I was able to stomach the entire bowl. The other girls in my group ordered the BBH. it was so good that we ended up going back for lunch right before our flight. I ordered the bun rieu just to try it because I prefer bun rieu over BBH. it's solid, but I would still say their BBH was the tastiest out of the 3. Service was good/quick. This place, on the corner of Smith and Hotel Streets, is our "go to" for pho and other Vietnamese dishes. I usually order #37 (Bun Kho), vermicelli with spring roll and grilled pork for $17 but this time I tried #16 (Goi) Jellyfish salad, also $17. My co-workers ordered #37 and an off the menu dish, Beef Stew with egg noodles. The latter dish is hearty and surprisingly good! I've ordered jellyfish salad from other places in downtown Honolulu and the one from Pho Vietnam is the best as it was primarily comprised of jellyfish. At another place up the street, I only found two pieces of jellyfish atop my mainly sliced cabbage / julienned vegetable salad. If you want a table, you should show up before 11:30am as we've often had to go somewhere else due to it being full. Highly recommended! read more

Authentic Vietnamese restaurant with large menu that offer dishes not found in many other restaurants such as hot pot and meat plates that you make spring rolls with. I ordered bun bo hue and it was very good; lots of lemongrass flavor which I love. Service was quick and restaurant had a good crowd for early morning. We saw working people coming for early lunch so I bet it gets very busy around lunchtime. This restaurant is in Chinatown so there's lots to browse around before or after your meal. read more

Tried Pho Vietnam on a Friday evening. Walked in solo and was greeted with a smile and sat at a shared table that already had a couple sitting at. Menu is full of a variety of Vietnamese dishes that looked great. I had my mind set on Pho and ordered the Pho with short rib and a side of egg rolls. The pho was delicious. Broth was very tasty, so much so I did not add any sriracha which is my norm for pho. Ribs were nice, tender and fell off the bone. The rolls with crispy and tasty with a nice array of accompaniments. The restaurant is a nicer mom and pop feel, very comfortable. read more

I'm also obsessed with their fresh spring rolls, nem, and summer rolls so refreshing and tasty. Don't skip the Vietnamese coffee or the house mixed drink with dried longan (I forget the name but it's so good!). The service is always kind and welcoming. We're treated like regulars every time. This is where my parents get their weekly pho fix -- no negotiations. I join them every now and then if I am in the area. Parking can be a little tricky since it's street-only, but there are public parking garages nearby that are usually a good option. I love pho, but I can never finish a bowl here -- the portions are huge. They're especially known for their hot stone pho (you'll see how big it is in the pics), but even the regular pho comes in medium, large, and extra-large -- definitely a great bang for your buck. My personal favorite is the duck bamboo noodle soup. They serve the duck on the side. In the broth, they have bamboo shoots and (I believe) duck blood with the noodles. It's sooo good -- I highly recommend trying it. It's my go to dish if you're a duck lover. One tip: I'd suggest sitting closer to the front. If you sit in the back, you might get overlooked by the servers unless you call them over. read more

Pho Vietnam is my parents go-to spot anytime they want to eat out. I must agree the food is very good. The staff is nice and the restaurant is clean. I know it's in the name, pho, but I haven't tried it here yet. I'm always drawn to the other dishes. Growing up with a viet culture, my parents would cook all various dishes that are nostalgic to me. So this is a great spot to fulfill those cravings especially now that my parents are older. The tray of special combo comes with the veggie and meat assortment. You're also provided hot water and rice paper with a side of fish sauce. It's a version of summer roll, but you make your own. There is a lot so this is fantastic for sharing. The durian smoothie is so yummy. I get that not everyone loves the smell, but it's creamy and fresh. The vermicelli bowl is simple, but fish sauce brings it all together to make it taste amazing. The crab noodle soup is one of my favorites, a must try if you haven't had it before. They do have a large party gratuity of 18% for 6 or more. Which is pretty much the norm. Parking would be nearby paid parking lots or street parking. Just be mindful of the day and time. read more

Had takeout bath mi (pork). It was okay, just okay. The bread was crispy, just crispy but I've had others where the outside was crispy and the inside soft. But it was okay. I loved the Chinese parsley (cilantro). I know some people think it tastes soapy but I love it so much I grow it. There was pickled carrots and daikon and fresh cucumbers- love the veggies. Thought there was a green pepper but it turned out to be the edge of a jalapeño-if I'd known I would have definitely taken it out. I like a little heat but this was more heat than I enjoy, took the rest out. The barbecue pork was okay. If there was pate I did not see it or taste it. If I go back and eat in, I'll order pho. read more

We appreciate having Pho Vietnam open on a Sunday, as other pho restaurants are closed on this day. Their location is central for us and parking is not so challenging on a Sunday. My husband came here twice already and we've only been living here for 2 months! The soups are so savory and delicious and the staff are wonderful! I got the bun bo hue and my husband got the pho and immediately when we had a sip of our broth, our eyes both lit up because it was good- it reminded us of a home cooked hug in a bowl of soup. We both loved that each bowl of soup had all the fixins that we're use to when we eat it at home and all their veggies that was given to us was fresh with a crisp crunch! We took my MIL there and she loved it as well- we can't wait to come back for more! The restaurant isn't huge but it has a good enough space- when you come during the weekend, it's super busy but when you go during the week, it's not terrible. All in all, we are going to come back here again, no doubt!!! If you're in the Chinatown area and are looking for some Vietnamese food, stop by here, you won't be disappointed! read more

I've been to Pho Vietnam for a few times for lunch with the lunch bunch and it's one of those spots that fills up pretty quickly once lunch hour hits as it is a popular spot in Chinatown. The ambiance can get a bit loud as there are a lot of people ready to eat a nice meal. I'm a seafood pho kinda gal and theirs is consistently good. The broth has a nice savory depth, the seafood is cooked perfectly, and the noodles are easy to pull apart and slurp up or place in the soup spoon to add some hoisin, chili, or sriracha for added flavor. The toppings are also fresh too. Crispy bean sprouts, fragrant basil and culantro leaves, lemon, and jalapenos. Everything comes together really well in the bowl. Now why the 3 stars? The downside to this: service and parking. Parking in Chinatown is always hectic; you'll either have to hunt for a metered stall on the street or find a paid parking lot or structure nearby. Service here is a hit or miss. Most of the time, its okay but not great. There were a few times where the server would mix up our order. The last visit, I asked for the seafood pho (even pointed and gave the number on the menu) but they brought me oxtail pho instead. Thankfully my friend pointed it out and they fixed it, but it was a letdown when you're looking forward to your meal. read more

Zero accountability, don't waste your time. I placed an online order, arrived early to pick it up, and stood there for over 15 minutes watching the staff walk around and tend to other things -- not once did anyone acknowledge me or check in. After all that waiting, someone finally came up and asked for my name and order like I'd just walked in. Then a woman -- who I watched walking around the restaurant the entire time I was there -- came up to tell me they had been "calling me" to let me know they were out of sandwiches. I was standing right there. In the restaurant. For 15+ minutes. No phone call. No one approached me. Nothing. When I pointed that out, instead of apologizing or taking any accountability, she doubled down and told me they were out of sandwiches "either way" and that I'd have to cancel my order. That's it. No apology, no alternative offered, no acknowledgment that their story didn't add up. This is unacceptable. If you're out of an item, be honest about it -- don't fabricate a story about phone calls that never happened. I'll be disputing this charge and will not be returning. Avoid this place if you value your time and your money. read more

Went here for lunch a little after 1pm and I expected it to be crowded with people since a lot of reviews and people mentioned how it's packed daily. To my surprise there were only 5 tables there with a lot of seats open. My mom wanted to try this spot out since a tiktoker she watches raved about this place so it's safe to say we both had high expectations for this spot. Unfortunately it was our first time here and the experience fell short. We took a minute figuring out what to order since they had a big menu and everything looked delicious so I'll give them that. And their menu looked nice, organized, and pretty. You don't see a lot of that especially in Asian establishments these days. I was torn between regular pho since that's my go to in Vietnamese cuisine or the Banh Xeo since it's something I always wanted to try. I went with the Beef Ball Pho since that's my go to pho order, and got it medium. Everyone was right , the medium is actually pretty big. The portion was big for the size so that's a plus for me. The beef ball pho tasted like any other pho restaurant I been too so I wasn't blown away but it tasted good. And the spring rolls were delicious, I was confused by the menu since it stated the spring roll comes in 3 pieces but they gave 6 , I'm not complaining because I love me some spring rolls and can eat a ton , I just found that part to be misleading in the menu. My mom ordered the Chicken Pho and also got spring rolls. The chicken in her pho was dry and ruined the pho, it was bland no taste. So she was pretty unhappy since she had high hopes. She was gonna order the oxtail pho or short rib pho, but we both played it safe or tried too at least and got the basics. I also ordered the mango smoothie , it was good it was fresh fruit and just right. I wish they had the drinks in bigger cups though :( .. my mom had gotten the Vietnamese coffee and it was pretty strong but seemed to have been missing creamer.. Service wasn't that great though , the lady who took our order was decent , she memorized our order without writing it down and getting us the correct items so I'll give her props . The food came quick BUT it seems they don't pay attention to the customers after you order. The workers seem to be behind the counter or somewhere else in the restaurant doing their own thing. I noticed that the other tables were also looking around for any worker to get their attention or they were forgotten. And just sitting at their tables waiting. Also .. I saw that one of the tables ordered Banh Xeo , ( lowkey regret not getting it after all :/// ) because it looked big ! I want to consider returning one day just so I can try it and see how it is. And that way my mom can give the oxtail or short rib pho a chance. read more

My friends and I work nearby and decided to give Pho Vietnam a try for lunch. We didn't make reservations, and it was pretty busy on a Tuesday for lunch. The restaurant is pretty big, so we didn't have to wait to get a table. I got the medium brisket pho, and it was a huge portion! This was the smallest size, I couldn't imagine how much food would be in the larger sizes. The brisket was a little on the tougher side, and the meat had way too much fat for my liking. The noodles were a good texture. I would be open to trying some of their other items. The service was a little on the slower side, which is totally understandable considering how crowded they were. I would come back if I was in the area to try different menu items. read more

Bon Bo Hue is legit, authentic taste and flavor. Generous herbs as a topping like banana flower, beans sprout, mint, jalapeños and lemon. I do like mine more spicy, they do have chill oil as a condiment. They also have the garlic chili and Sriracha. The fat, round rice noodles is cooked perfectly and it goes well with the spicy broth. It is rich and savory. I also ordered the crispy egg roll, so crunchy outside and moist and flavorful inside. Dont forgot to have the Vietnamese Coffee. Service staff are efficient. Just be ready to order as soon as they hand you a menu. They are fast. The dining area is a bit cramped, with table very close together just to maximize the space.
