One of my favorite late night eateries that ISN'T fast food! I love that they are open until 2am! It's so hard to find good food after 10:00pm. Everything about this place is amazing... except maybe parking, but that's usually always a problem in Honolulu. However, I always get orders to-go, so I just end up parking on the street, picking up, and going on my merry way. If you decide to dine in, the ambiance is super cute with both indoor and outdoor seating. Last time I was there, they were expanding the outdoor seating. They also have a bar with bar seating inside. Their Pad Thai is perfect! Nice and moist without being soggy and definitely not dry. This place was recommended to me, so when I was craving Thai and needed to carbo-load for a race, it was a no brainer. It was time to give Pattaya a try. This, however, will probably be my first and last visit. The place is cute enough, with a large back garden area where I chose to dine. Service was also great. I appreciate the little button at the table that I could click for service. The food, however, was mediocre at best. My friend and I ordered the pad Thai with tofu, ginger chicken, chicken satay, and pork larb. The pad Thai was the best dish, but it was very tomatoey, which I did not expect. The chicken with ginger had very little chicken. It was mostly julienned vegetables, including celery which I do not care for. The chicken satay was kinda dry and most certainly needed the peanut sauce to make it palatable. The larb was very dry with very bland flavor, served on one lettuce leaf and a wedge of cabbage. How am I supposed to eat that? All of it was quite disappointing, especially for the price point. As I was eating this meal I remembered the Thai food truck at the end of Ward, where Fisherman's Pier used to be. Now THAT was some good Thai food. I guess that was the best thing about this meal-remembering where I could get really good Thai food-so that the next time I'm having a craving, I can go back over there...I hope it's still there. read more

Came in craving Thai food and it absolutely hit the spot. The beef pad krapow was so flavorful -- perfectly seasoned with that bold, savory-spicy kick and fragrant basil. The beef was tender, and the heat level was just right (spicy but still balanced). So good over rice. The chicken panang curry was rich, creamy, and comforting. The curry sauce had that slightly sweet, nutty depth with just the right amount of spice. The chicken was tender, and the sauce was honestly spoon-worthy. We also ordered the summer rolls, which were fresh and light -- packed with crisp veggies and herbs. Dipped in peanut sauce, they were the perfect refreshing starter before the richer dishes. And Peter was a great waiter -- friendly, attentive, and made sure we had everything we needed without hovering. Service definitely elevated the experience. Everything tasted fresh and well-executed. Not sure if they have a different chef now but the Tom Kha isn't what it used to be and lacks flavor profile from before. Tried their prad krapow and it tasted blander than it looked. Crispy rice nam kow is okay. Also, the food has never really come out quickly before but now it takes even longer. Was given an estimate of 25-30 minutes but it ended up taking an hour for takeout. Dinner in Kaka'ako, Honolulu, Hawaii... Located on the corner of Cooke Street and Ilaniwai Street, Pattaya Thai is a well-known establishment. The obstacle might be the parking, but I went on a Sunday when metered street parking is free! Inside, it's quite spacious, air-conditioned, and nicely decorated! I liked the big screen TV - especially when it showed Bruno Mars and Lady Gaga songs! Note: There's outside patio dining in the back and sidewalk dining in the front. Service was efficient and polite. Later, the friendly owner (I think she was) gave us a plate of complimentary sushi - with Sriracha aioli sauce on the top. Ouch... LOL! Sushi is their new menu item. The server took the sushi menu away before I could get a photo. The sidewalk sign indicated that they're now serving sushi. I ordered the yellow curry with chicken... and a side order of rice because it's not included. It was really good! I also got the Drunken Noodles with tofu and "zero spice". However, I could see the chili oil... and i could feel the heat. I mentioned to the server, but she kind of shrugged. When she returned to the table with the bill, she asked if we wanted dessert... My first time coming here! The fiancé and I were out a little later than expected and were hungry! Looked up for late night food in town and saw this place. I've always wanted to try but just never had the time. They are open till 2am and last call for kitchen is at 1am. Despite some of the reviews, I honestly think the food was delicious!! We ordered the shrimp summer roll, panang curry with sticky rice, pad kee mao or drunken noodles, and the fried calamari. They even gave us a sample of their sushi as well. I haven't had Thai food in a while so that really hit the spot. Everything was seasoned well and tasted really good! They had a cute little patio seating as well so that was awesome!! Cute casual date night spot if anything! The aunty there that served us was really nice! It wasn't too busy when we got there but then more people came in and I think only had 2 servers. But my water was refilled and our food came out as well. I would say things take time to make so just be patient if anything. Overall I would definitely come back to try other items on the menu. Stop by myself at around 9pm. Restaurant was practically empty and I felt like an intruder. Lady sitting at the bar asked where I wanted to sit so I chose outside. I ordered a pad see ew, minutes later, the chef came out with with a complimentary assortment of sushi. I was impressed at how thin the pieces were and it tasted wonderful. Minutes later, entree arrived piping hot. Reminded me of eating in Bankok. It was that authentic! This is on the corner with lots of outdoor seating. The lunch special Thai basil chicken was made with what seemed like "ground chicken" and as such had a strange crumbly texture. It was also salty which took away from the flavor. The shrimp pad Thai tasted nice, but also a little salty. The stone crab was OK but the meat was kind of dry/crumbly, which made it difficult to eat all the small bits of meat. It was not plump and flavorful firm crab meat which you can pull out of a cracked shell, instead it crumbled & came apart, very frustrating. I think it was old. The best thing we had here was the sticky rice with mango dessert, the mango was perfectly ripe and set, and the sticky rice with coconut and sesame seeds was the perfect compliment to the mango. Originally opened under the name of "Pattaya" in 2006 at Queen St by chef/owner Ratchanee "Yuri" Senckowske, it closed permanently for a few years and reopened under "Pattaya Thai" in 2021 at nearby Cooke and Ilaniwai Sts. (The name "Pattaya" is a popular beach resort city in Thailand known for its nightlife, beaches, and cultural activities.) Owner Yuri brought in chef Maew Voecks, who started cooking at age 9 for 13 siblings and had more than a decade of professional culinary experience. Pattaya Thai is a casual family-run Thai eatery known for its authentic and flavorful Thai cuisine mixed with Laos influence. Its menu is quite extensive that includes many appetizers, salads, curries, noodles, stir fries, special dishes, seafood platters, soups, rice dishes, and desserts. There are vegetarian options, and they recently started offering sushi, blending Thai and Japanese culinary traditions. Pattaya Thai is known for its rich curries like evil curry, crispy rice salad, drunken noodles, and Pad See Ew. Our son was visiting from Toronto and had wanted to eat Thai food. Since we have not been to Pattaya Thai and it had positive Yelp reviews, we decided to have lunch there. We had the following: * Chicken wings. Served piping hot and crispy, the large tasty wings came with 3 slices of cucumber and a sweet chili sauce. Delicious! * Evil curry chicken with rice (lunch special). This is red curry with coconut milk, cabbage, bell peppers, onion, carrots, kaffir lime leaves, and Thai basil. The special came with jasmine rice, whereas, if ordered by itself, you would have had to order the rice separately. The curry was flavorful but not spicy enough. * Salt & pepper shrimp. Not to be confused with Chinese style of cooking, this was Thai style stir-fried shrimp tossed with salt and pepper. The good-sized flavorful shrimps had a light crunch that were stir-fried with veggies and served piping hot. The dish was just slightly spicy. Our orders were very delicious with a nice balance of flavors and freshness of ingredients; however, they were not spicy enough, which was partly our fault. We were so engrossed in conversation when ordering that we forgot to request a higher level of spiciness which our son enjoys. Which brings me to comment on our experience of Pattaya Thai's customer service, or lack of. We arrived a little after the restaurant opened for lunch at 11a. There was a lone staff member in the front who took our orders, served them, and processed payment. I felt customer service was lacking due to the following: * We were not asked about customized spice levels and because of that, the dishes were not spicy enough to our liking. * Midway through eating, hubby noticed a tray of 4 containers of spicy pepper condiments that appeared to be house-made. He went up to the counter to grab a tray for us. The pickled jalapenos and other hot peppers helped to add spiciness to our dishes. This tray of peppers was not offered to us. * I requested a small amount of crushed peanuts which I like to sprinkle on my curry and rice. We were surprised when we received our bill that we were charged $1.00 for the peanuts. The peanuts were not a lot, and a small amount of ground peanuts are usually complimentary at other Thai restaurants. * We had some leftovers and were charged 30 cents for a take-out box. * The staff person spoke very little words to us and being our first time here, did not explain what their signature items were and the layout of the menu items. The staff person seemed to be more engrossed in tending to another matter although she stayed in the front the entire time. Not very friendly, personable, nor welcoming, and we were the only diners there the entire time. We don't think owner Yuri was present at the restaurant while we were there, as she would have never had customer service fall in this way. The restaurant's dining area is spacious, as there is seating indoors, outside in the back in a covered patio (pet friendly), and in the front outside near the front entrance. Hours of operation are daily 11a to 2a the next day, with karaoke during the late-night hours. Parking is an issue here, as there is lack of designated parking for the restaurant. Limited metered street parking is available. As we were there on a federal holiday, many of the businesses in a small complex were closed across the street, so we parked where the old Karen's Kitchen was, where we could keep an eye on our car from the restaurant. Despite the lack of customer service, the food items we ordered were authentic and delicious! We hope to return to try other dishes on the menu and will be more outspoken of its customer service! Cute Thai spot. Really small but plenty of seating. My friend said it was his favorite and good prices so I finally got around to trying. I got a Thai coffee, pad Thai, and drunken noodles. Service was fast and to the point. The Thai coffee was really sweet and strong. Pad Thai was sweeter than I'm used to, but I got it hot and I thought the spice level was good! My local friend recommended Pattaya Thai last night because I couldn't find a good curry restaurant that everyone in my group would like to dine. So glad that we came here. Waitresses were hospitable that made us feel so welcomed. We ordered a wide variety of dishes and different level of spiciness. Between 3 of us hungry men, our bill came to about $100 for 5 dishes and 3 drinks. The picture of Pork Chop special on the menu didn't give much presentation but the actual dish was phenomenal. The salad accompanied the pork chop was incredibly juicy and flavorful. Crispy Rice Salad had a pun. We asked for medium spicy. It was pretty spicy already. Not sure what a hot spicy would be. When eating with romaine lettuce, the crunchiness of rice and lettuce danced in my mouth. As my friend said, " there was a lot going on in there." I'm glad they put crushed peanuts on the side of Pad Thai with Tofu. One of my friends didn't like peanuts. That made it easier for others to pig out. The noodle was extra red but flavorful. I think it needed to be stirred. Medium spicy was right on point. The Panang Curry with Chicken tasted milder on a medium spicy. I think it was because of coconut milk and other ingredients that made it taste balanced. It went well with sticky rice. The Papaya Salad in Thai Style (other style is Laos with peanuts) had a great presentation. It came with lettuce and a wedge of cabbage. I was told to use cabbage to clear the palate. It was fresh and delicious. Overall, we had a great Valentine's Day dinner at Pattaya Thai Restaurant. The owner came to chat with us about the history of the restaurant. I was initially skeptical because of the mixed reviews: some said Pattaya was delicious with lots of flavors, and others said that it was bland. I didn't know who to trust so I took the chance to decide for myself. I'm so glad I did because Pattaya Thai is now one of my favorite late-night spots and Thai establishments on the island. Pattaya Thai can be a bit unconventional compared to the other Thai places I've eaten so far, but in a good way! Walking in, it almost felt like I was at a Thai lounge, which was pretty cool. Here's everything I ate: Crispy Rice Salad: Absolutely delicious. Get this spicy--it will be so flavorful, but careful, it will make your mouth burn! The rice was a bit of a hard crunch and I didn't really care for the larger pieces. But the flavor made up for it. I also love the pickled onions and mint! Drunken Noodles: The perfect accompaniment to the spicy crispy rice salad. I'm not sure if there was peanut butter, but it felt like there was with how nutty and smooth it was. It's not as savory as other Thai places, but I actually really appreciated the bit of sweetness these drunken noodles had. I wish there was more of that "wok hei" char though, but I'm just being picky at this point. The main thing is that the noodles were not too soft at all and perfectly bouncy. Dessert Roti: My FAVORITE item of the night! The roti is fried so crispy and covered in condensed milk. The icecream on top was also good. I cannot recommend this item enough. I went with the medium spice level because I wanted something slightly above mild. I did not think that medium meant completely inedible. It is just way too spicy, too salty, and too sour. Too overpowering and not in a good way. I paid 25$ to get this through uber eats and there was nothing I could do about the food being disappointing. The service was amazing! The staff were attentive and fun. It's karaoke plus Thai food. They were out of several items. I wanted the lobster ball appetizer. I had to settle for the Asian pancake. Not as good as a Korean pancake. The green bean with beef dish, I can't remember the Thai name, was very good. I got the mild because someone in my group had ordered mild and said it was spicy. This is a true Thai spice level. Not watered down like other Thai places. My mild dish was spicy. My idea of spicy is that my hair needs to fall out. Mild was not that spicy but brought a nice sweat. I got the evil curry with medium spice and it definitely had a kick but it wasn't overpowering. I am not sure what all is in the curry but it was a wonderful combo. The curry doesn't come with rice you need to order it on the side which was another $2 or $3. It was large enough with the rice that I made two meals out of it. Themeing was a little unexpected, as this joint is more club/bar than your average Thai resturant. But it wasn't obnoxious or that loud, so not a turn away. As I was working out at the gym, I considered what to eat afterwards. Pattaya is always convenient for me, and they're super fast too. But I wanted to be healthy, as I'm on a weight loss journey. I took a leap of faith and actually chose the chicken rice (khao man gai), which is essentially the Thai take on Hainan chicken rice. I was expecting the rice, the chicken, and not much else. For $20, I felt like the leap of faith was pretty huge. But when I went to go pick it up, I was shocked to see a giant plastic container on top of the plate. I asked for sauce on the side... surely this isn't the sauce? When I got back to my apartment I saw they did put the sauce (nam chim) on the side--more on that later--but what was on top was a whole container of chicken soup (nam sup). I learned that the soup is meant to be both a starter (you'll also feel fuller faster), but also the chicken in the chicken rice is boiled in that very stock. So you're getting the liquid essence of the chicken rice, and you can sprinkle some extra stock over your chicken too! Very versatile. The stock has a strong ginger taste, which was actually what I needed since I've been feeling under the weather. There were some veggies in there too--some onions and carrots, boiled just enough. The chicken and rice was pretty good--I couldn't eat it right away but it was still hot when I got to it. The chicken and rice are flavored well (not a salt bomb), but I was very impressed by the nam chim, the dipping sauce for the chicken. A little goes a very long way, but the dipping sauce has a nice level of heat and acid, which dresses up an already flavorful chicken into a really balanced experience. Although $20 is steep for chicken and rice, I'm actually really glad that Pattaya sells khao man gai. This dish is arguably one of the healthier (and GERD-friendly) dishes on the menu, but it's so filling and the flavors are really so unique--it is Hainan chicken rice, but it truly has that Thai touch. I really appreciate the fact that chef was able to give it so much flavor without salt salt salt (which I am used to, as a local from Hawaii). I love cute outdoor dining areas - and this place and the food did not disappoint. Also loved that the staff were super helpful - told me where to park (right across the lot). *Except it got a little sketchy at the end of the night, so I'd recommend coming with a group or someone you'd trust to be your body guard! Favorites were: - egg omelet: did not sound exciting but was different and actually really tasty, the kind of dish that makes me wanna try making it at home... - crispy rice salad: love the texture and flavors of this bright dish - rotti with ice cream: creamy ice cream went perfectly against the hot and crispy dough. The vegetable stir fry and pork panang curry were good but not different from other places' renditions of these dishes. I would never order the chicken pad thai again. The sauce was too ketchupy and the flavor was just not good. But we'd definitely be back soon! read more

Pattaya Thai serves up authentic Thai cuisine located in Kaka'ako. Owners speak native Thai language here. Very nice people! Service was good. Parking is really hard to find in this area, all street parking. Lots of booth seating inside, bar seating, and outdoor seating. Food: *Crispy Rice Salad (Nam Khao) was very delicious! I highly recommend this dish. It is a Lao dish. Comes with fresh herbs to enjoy. $17 *Pork Larb -minced meat salad with fresh herbs. Eat with sticky rice! Tasty and met my expectations. $14 plus $4 sticky rice *Evil Curry with Chicken -this was very creamy and had great flavor! I do wish there was more chicken in the curry. $15 If you like spicy food, this is the right place for you! I ordered all the dishes Spicy and it all came out with a very spicy kick! Main gripe is that Curries don't include rice so extra $4 for side of sticky rice. Overall affordable prices for Hawaii. BYOB with corkage fee. You can also do karaoke here for a small fee.
