It's funny how I first started eating here. My ex raved about the Chinese place around the corner, but we ended up here. I was pleasantly surprised. And now that I work in the general vicinity, I find myself here often. I come here often for lunch. Within a few minutes of ordering, the food is there in front of you, which is great when you only have a half hour for lunch. Dinner time it takes a little longer, but not much. Food here is consistent. I've had bun and pho here, and a couple of times the rice plates. For the pho, the meat to noodle ratio is good. And the broth is just right! I do wish there was more Thai basil though. But they do bring if you ask. I like their coffee made with the ol skool French press. I hate when some places just bring you the iced coffee already in a glass. How do I know they aren't making it instantly? The decor is a little grungy, but not gross. Their hood system needs to be cleaned. If they are cooking a lot of meat, the place does get smokey. Otherwise, tables are clean and so are the utensils. Prices aren't too bad. I found myself at Pho Nam for lunch on Friday with my co-worker. We were quickly seated and I was quite intrigued with the menu selections since there appeared to be a good variety. My co-worker ordered the Pho Special and I opted for the Bun Bo Hue. I had a small sampling of my co-worker's pho. It was seriously disappointing because the broth was bland, bland, bland! As for my Bun Bo Hue, I was expecting some pig knuckles & pig blood. What I got was some chunks of beef, which were not bad...but this was definitely not the dish I had pictured in my head as I was ordering. To be fair though, the broth wasn't entirely bad. But know that if you ever order it Bun Bo Hue in Vietnam...it is most likely not going to be like Pho Nam's version. The dishes were a good portion, but at about $8/$9...it was quite pricey. Had our experience ended here, I would have given Pho Nam a three star rating. However, once we paid, I asked for a to-go container for the remainder of my beef/broth. The inside of the container they gave me was greasy. I didn't notice this until I had already started transferring my leftovers in the container. I told the server the container was dirty and asked for a second one. To my dismay, she brought me another container that was equally greasy on the inside! So then when I asked for a third container, one of the other servers came over and was asking what was wrong. Although they did ultimately give me a third (and finally clean) to-go container, I was really turned off by the attitude displayed by the servers. It was not my fault that their containers were dirty and really, that is quite gross to begin with... I just dropped $10 on a bowl of mediocre pho...rather than talk in Vietnamese about me, they probably should have apologized for being careless and bringing me two dirty to-go containers...just a suggestion for management. read more

I used to come here as my go to pho spot years ago and somehow drifted away. Came in here for lunch with a friend out of convenience because we were in the area. Food was good and what you would expect. What I didn't expect was the quickness of our food coming to the table. If you work in an office, you may not too much time for lunch and you don't want to spend most of your time waiting for your food. These guys here got the lunch crowd covered. Our food came within 10 minutes and left as more than enough time to chat and take a walk to walk off the food. That was really impressive. I've been here a couple times for my pho cravings, though I have to admit not because it's one of my fav pho places but because it's the most convenient for a quick bite to eat. I usually get chicken pho, and it's decent here; a standard chicken pho dish in my opinion. The portion sizes here are a little small though for the price. I've also tried their spring rolls and summer rolls, which are all pretty good, but again standard. Nothing super special about them, but a great way to satisfy that pho craving :). I've also tried the spring roll bun here, which was a small portion for my appetite and wallet :( The restaurant is clean, medium sized and well staffed. The food comes out super quick, as one would expect for a pho restaurant and the service is good. The parking is either out front in the meters or in the back structure. The parking structure is probably the most confusing parking structure as far as finding your way in/out of it, but there's always parking, which is a plus. read more

Let me start off by saying I'm no pho connoisseur but I know a good pho when I taste one! I came here with my parents for quick pho dinner fix and boy was I pleasantly surprised. I'm not sure how my parents heard about this place, but they insisted that we had to eat here. I'm super glad they persuaded me to try! The place isn't the fanciest of places, it's more like a regular Chinese restaurant feel and the service here is fairly fast. I ordered the thinly sliced beef pho while my parents ordered the vegetable pho (its lent and they're not allowed to eat meat). My parents really enjoyed their pho and had to actually order a side of noodles. My dad said the portions here are a bit smaller than other pho places, which I totally agree with. But I on the other hand like that the portions are smaller, I usually never finish my bowl of pho and today I did! The portions were just right for me :)! The reason for a deduction in a star is due to limited parking. I personally hate looking for parking and paying a hefty bill to park my car in the parking garbage. If you can't find street parking in front of the restaurant you have to park inside the imperial plaza. With a validation the first 45-60 minutes are free, I think every half hour after is $3. Last time my friend parked here to get her hair down at M Mateos (located upstairs of the same bldg) she paid $9 for parking!!! Anyhooooo, if your in a need for pho that's quick and delicious I recommend trying out this place. I'm certain you will be happy with making the decision to try this place out! :). read more

We come here atleast once a month and every time it's good I always order #42 pork and shrimp which is awesome and beef stew with Egg noodle soup the meat was so tender! We've tried various other dishes as well all have been great so far. The Summer and spring rolls I also get as meal for lunch sometimes since they're big and filling. I've come here once for take out and once for dine but I called in to order 10 minutes prior so we could eat as soon as we got there since my lunch break is only 30 minutes. It was a Sunday so it wasn't busy at all and they were nice enough to start making our pho before we arrived! I ordered the beef ball and rare steak which is my go to pho combo and my boyfriend got the oxtail pho which was amazing! Getting that for myself next time. The oxtail pho didn't really taste like pho but like it was mixed in with oxtail soup, the meat was tender and everything was delicious! To be honest I was not looking foward to pho. Now that we have eaten wow was it good. We had Rice Noodle in spicy beef broth, seafood pho, and seafood egg noodle soup. All were excellent. For the appetizer we had fried calamari and choy sum with oyster sauce. Once again fantastic. And none of us were able to eat the whole meal. We will be back! The soup base in the - Chicken Pho here is one of my favorites when i want Pho as it has a hint of ginger. - My favorite of all their soups is the beef stew egg noodle soup! - Spring rolls for appetizer in my opinion are very good here. - The pork chops and steak are excellent in flavor and generous in portions. - The bbq chicken plate come with a large portion of rice, tossed greens and 3 pieces of tender, juicy and flavorful boneless skinless chicken breasts. My wife and I love this place and we have been coming here for over 10 years. My wife is Vietnamese and cooks all the favorite Vietnamese dishes so she knows good Vietnamese food. This place has the best Pho out of all the Pho places in the island. We live in Kapolei and will regularly drive to town to eat Pho at this restaurant. The owner is a really nice lady. One of my favorite Pho restaurants, especially for being in town. I don't normally venture off too far from what I'm familiar with, and this restaurant definitely stays consistent with what I'm "familiar" with. The food is always fresh, and they serve their dishes with plenty of vegetables (because I obviously don't grocery shop often enough). I love that it's not overly "seasoned" like many other restaurants. Parking is a challenge, since the building's lot is kind of... scary. Thankfully, there's a lot of street parking, so I park a little ways out, and walk. Service is usually pretty quick, and you can always expect to see smiles while being served. I went here on a lunch date with a vegan friend recently because I was craving soup. It it located on the corner of Cooke Street & Kawaiahao Street (not Kapi'olani Blvd). There is meter parking lining those streets - although I've read that there is a structure you can park at, and they will validate your stub. For it being a lunch hour, it was not crowded at all. The restaurant is pretty small, but I enjoyed the decor and atmosphere. I ordered their pho which was good, but nothing sparkly and their milk tea. Personally, I like the taste of other pho locations in Downtown and Chinatown better but this is a great place to grab a quick bite to eat when I'm in the mood for pho since it's in a pretty convenient location for me. I usually go with the beef pho, which is ok. The portions are appropriate, but the meat can be a bit tough. The broth is also ok and is definitely perfect for this colder, winter weather. Price point is a little higher since this is a sit down restaurant. I believe you can also place phone orders and pick up. The few times I've been here, it hasn't been that busy and we didn't have to make a reservation. But I've also noticed that it does fill up at other times too. I guess it's hit or miss. Parking is usually available on the street. A friend and I typically like to walk here for a casual girls dinner to catch up. The last time I had been here was from 2006, before I moved offices from Queen Street to North School Street. I had previously gone here during my lunch hour back then pretty much 3x a week. More recently in 2012, I was in the area, so I decided to hit this place up for some Pho and to hang out in my old stomping grounds - if you can call it that. I was and is still one of my favorite Pho restaurants, even though I hadn't discovered Yelp back in 2006. The restaurant is clean and the ambiance was very top knotch. Not much people when a couple of friends and I entered here for a quick and affordable place for lunch. We were greeted politely and sat almost immediately. That's what I love about vietnamese restaurants. The place is rarely ever crowded, and I am thankful for that. Loving the Pho that they serve here, although it is normally what I would get anyway. I got the Pho Tai along with the summer rolls and the green papaya salad. I heart the green papaya salad, although I don't get it much anymore since one serving is close to $9 already. The broth was clear and translucent and that was good. I had a fun time and I'm sure my friends did too. They got the rice dishes this time around, since they were just Pho'd out. It was interesting to see someone Pho'd out, but sometimes, it is what it is though. The Pho I had was above average and I was estatic to get extra vegetables without extra charge. I guess they forgot to charge it or something. Score! The parking can be a hassle, but the street parking is always good. Recommended if you are in the area and craving Pho. Service was average, but the food more than made up for it. The quickness of the food came out in less than 10 minutes after ordering, which was average for most restaurants. My party and I ended up here for dinner when the restaurant we were trying to go to was unexpectedly closed. Since this was nearby, it was an easy pick. Sadly, 'easy' is not a synonym for 'good.' This place was... disappointing. Prices were higher than one might expect for a place of this caliber, and portions were smaller. A good number of us had pho, perhaps due to the name of the restaurant. I paid the extra for a large bowl, and there wasn't much meat in it -- a huge no-no in my world. My daughter's curry tofu over rice wasn't impressive in any way. My wife's rice plate was adequate, but not special. Decor was ordinary and a little dingy. Service was decent. I imagine parking in the area might be a challenge, but we didn't have to contend with that as we were parked elsewhere and walked over. Verdict: over-priced and under-good. We came in with our family on a Tuesday early evening. Not crowded. We were seated quickly by friendly staff. The environment was clean. Parking is tricky. There's about 5 street stalls fronting the restaurant. If you time it right, you'll have good parking. I ordered a Bbq chicken and spring rolls. Kids had Chicken Pho. Food came out quickly (within 7 minutes of ordering). Chicken was very moist and had a lot of flavor. Almost had a Korean flair to the taste. Like comfort food, and ridiculously fast. My favorites are the lemon grass chicken, the BBQ chicken, and ox-tail pho.

The plan was to get some Thai food takeout from Pattaya, something quick so a hectic Sunday can end on a relaxing note. But somehow they were closed. In the area I found Pho Nam. Just want to get food and go home I gave it a try. From ordering to getting our food, it took a total of FORTY FIVE MINUTES. People around us that sat down after us were getting their food before us. I get that takeout order might not be their top priority, but 45 minutes?! Really? We got deep fried quail, sate squid, Vietnamese Tom yum and beef salad. It was pricey for what we've got. The soup was good but the rest of the dishes had no flavor. It was like the chef completely forgot to season? The sate squid was just squid cooked in a lot of kimchee and onion.
