    House Beef Noodles
    Rachel C.

The house-made beef noodles and gyoza mixed with chili oil were quite tasty, there's not much interaction with the service other than your food coming out and paying for the bill. Other than that once you're seated you scan the QR code to view the menu and place your order. The restaurant is nice, clean, and evenly spaced out. There is street parking and parking located T other areas around the restaurant. Portion sizes are generous and will fill you up.

Intestine noodles not my thing but not too bad if you're into it. Tasted fresh.

I hope that the owner sees this: the food has gone down hill at Mian. The noodles and sauce don't taste good anymore, the dumplings don't taste high quality. It just seems like things have changed and there's not the same love behind the food that there used to be. the past three or four times we've eaten here we just keep saying we're never gonna come back here anymore. It's super disappointing because we really loved this place and we hope that they can get their old cook back or find their inspiration again.. Mian has lost its magic and I'm dropping from 5 stars to 3 stars. Should actually be 2 stars because the food doesn't even seem hot and fresh anymore. Please raise your standards back up!! We LOVED Mian and I'm sure that we aren't the only ones that I've noticed the decrease in quality.

    House Pancake Beef Rolls

My mom was really craving a nice bowl of Chinese style noodles and have been talking my ear off about it, so when we got the chance to go out, I recommended to visit Mian. My younger brother has visited this spot several times and always raves about how solid their noodles are. This spot looks unseeming on the outside but is very nicely culturally decorated within. I forgot to take any pictures but I really liked the decorations they had within. The place has less human interaction than typical restaurants. You seat yourself upon arrival and then scan a QR code to order your meal. They then serve you water, the dishware, and food once its ready. My mom got the tomato beef stew noodles and I got the house beef noodles. We also got the house pancake beef rolls to share (but I almost ate the whole thing). The pancake was so good, the crispy pancake had the best texture ever (similar to scallion pancakes) and the beef and sauce was good. I would say it was a little less substantial than I would've liked, very minimal pieces of beef and cucumbers. 8.6/10, would've been 10/10 if there was just a bit more "stuff" within the pancake. My mom liked her tomato beef soup, it had a nice acidity & tang to it from the tomatoes and it was slightly spicy as well. I really liked my house beef noodles, it was super flavorful and had the perfect amount of slight spice. Very hearty and the noodles were also perfectly bouncy. I would really recommend this spot if you've never had Chinese noodles before, especially their house beef noodles.

Love the "soup" that is iced - its actually a drink with free refills so not a soup but a drink that is really refreshing and tasty! Love the beef noodle soup with free extra noodles - just pull out your phone n order it-

Came for Chengdu zaijiang mian wanted to compared with LA chain Differences - spicy level not as high, did not feel the numbness (would of ask for higher level next time) (they also offer chili on side if requsted. Flavor is consistent however the sauce - here - has more soupy broth (vs LA is more chili oil sauce and less broth-like) eventually as you eat, the broth will get absorbed better and be less soupy Sides dish for the fungi and radish (Spicer) were on point. taste consistent with LA. Still recommend despite minor difference. Will hit the Szechuan craving

I could have sworn I've left a review before but ill write up another one since it's just that good! I usually walk in, scan the QR code on the table and order my chili dumplings, cold Sichuan noodles and mung bean drink. I was able to try the beef roll this time and the hot sour spicy soup. The beef roll was delicious and the soup was good too but I still live my cold noodles. I love that you can specify the type of noodles that you want and you can even get extra noodles for free. Dine in you get free refills of the mung bean drink which I love. It perfectly tones down the spiciness of the food. Ambiance is relaxing and service is friendly. They also have a lot of take out orders. The chili dumplings are so good! A little kick of spice and so tasty!

Adding the house beef soup with noodles to our list of faves - great deep and rich beef broth.

I had the house braised beef and spicy pork dumplings. Shii was immaculate the way the meat melts in your mouth... pause AYO really good would recommend.

Mian is known for their Sichuan style food that leaves a nice numbing spice in your mouth. This is a no-frill type of spot, order through the QR codes on your table and the food comes out fairly quickly. House beef noodle soup: we ordered it regular spicy, with their homemade noodles with an extra free side of noodles! The beef in this soup was braised so beautifully that it was falling apart. The first couple of sips of the soup was a tad bit spicy but that spice becomes addicting after a few bites. Chili oil wontons: Be sure to mix this dish up well, with all of the chili oil sauce at the bottom of the bowl-- it's best when you can get a nice even coating of sauce. Soup dumplings (Xiao Long Bao): I don't think Mian is known for their Xiao Long Bao-- and XLB is one of those things that takes a lot of finesse to do well. It was okay but really on par with a good frozen microwavable XLB. Beef pancake rolls: one of my favorite bites of the whole meal! Scallion pancake rolled up with marinated beef, cucumbers and salty sweet sauce. Highly recommend! Parking can be a bit tough here, there's a small lot attached that fills up quickly. You can find some street parking or other parking lots in the area.

We came to try the noodles and they did not disappoint. They were bouncy and delicious. However I did not care for the soup dumplings. The other noodles were delicious.

Do I need a reservation for dinner?

We've not made reservations to dine here. However, it wouldn't hurt to go ahead to make reservations; that way, you won't be stressed or disappointed if you happen to come in when there's a crowd, and they can't accommodate you as a walk-in.

Where is the parking for this restaurant?

They have onsite parking. Valet service to an elevator parking system. If you get lucky nearby street parking is possible, but many simply park at Sam's Club and walk over.

    Is this place byob?

Yes. They don't have a liquor license.

Is there a on-line menu to Order takeouts?

Yes they were ahead of the curve with app ordering in the restaurant before the shutdown... order on app food comes paid only one contact by server ... these are not Chinese but Cali Chinese franchise Szechuan ramen noodles great

Is the restaurant reservation only, or are walk in accepted?

    You can walk in

Does the broth use MSG are there any no MSG options?

Has anyone been there recently? I thought Mian closed a while ago? But I see some recent reviews so now I'm confused!

    It reopened since May 2019!

Do they serve tian shui mian (aka sweet water noodles)?

I have been there several times and have never notice that item that on the menu. If I did I would have tried it.

Do they serve things on the menu that are NOT spicy?

Yes ! Lots of non spicy noodle soups and also appetizers

When is the Chengdu Tasty is gonna reopen?

According to our waiter tonight, in one month. 👍

Anyone know what type of noodles they use? And where did they get their noodles? Thanks!!

I highly recommend getting your dishes with Fried rice. So much flavor for a basic dish. I don't know that day I guess I was either extra hungry or it was that good I scarfed it down with the Beef. There is spicy chilis in the dish so be careful with each bite. I ordered it mainly for the extra kick, but if you're unable to eat spicy food, there is another dish that's similar with no chilis. Since then whenever I see a Szechuan restaurant I look for spicy eggplant with garlic sauce which was a dish we always ordered back in the day. Never have found it once. ANYWAY, I happened to drive by SXY Szechuan when entering second floor Ala Moana Mall parking lot, and circled back on foot to check it out. The window had a 50% promotion on Kung Pao Chicken for dine-in only, so they got me in the door. It's an attractive clean space with wonderful helpful staff. Hostess and waiters get an A+. The kung pao chicken was probably the best I've had, but was a little different in that it seemed to be breaded and fried chicken pieces instead of just sautéed chicken. Highly enjoyable, especially at $10. There was some really intriguing stuff on the menu, but also a feeling that perhaps they should have gotten a native English speaker to tweak the dish names. The menu leads with a dish made with "offal" which does not burnish the appetite after you've spent a few seconds wondered what "offal" might be and why you would want to eat it. Also "fungus"... there has to be better English word for this. There were a lot of different dishes I haven't seen on other Chinese menus that I'd like to try, including potato dishes like crispy fried shredded potatoes, brown sugar ice jelly, pickled long beans with minced meat (I was just reading about how good long beans are for you) and stir fried eggplant with green beans. None of those seem to include offal :) Anyway I'd be delighted to go back; it was a great experience and seemed reasonably priced for Ala Moana. And there's free parking right outside the door.

Beef Brisket Tendon & Won Ton in soup ($18.95) What can I say about da grub??? Da chicken wings came out hot & crispy. Although they featured only "flats" vs. drums (I like drums), I must say da wings was nicely executed. As for the Minute Chicken Cake Noodles.........nicely plated on a fancy smanshy panda plate. We will have to try this place again but so far this has been the best Chinese food that we've found on island! And my aunt used to have Chinese cooks from China that worked in her restaurant so I'm very picky!

It was just us and one other party at first but they quickly become packed after we were seated. The water didn't have the same dish soap taste issue I had last time so that's an upside. We ordered: * Salt and Pepper Lamb: 7.6/10 This was flavorful and fried pretty well. It's seasoned very similarly to the fish dish I had the last time I was here. They seem to utilize curry powder in all of their "salt and pepper" dishes. My main gripe about this dish is that the CHUCKS of fat. Maybe that would be appealing to some but each lamb stick had like ~35% fat which is A LOT if you consider that there's already not much meat on each rack. * Broccoli and Seafood Stir Fry: 7.5/10 This was nothing exceptional, I feel that you can definitely get this at any Chinese restaurant. It was flavorful and the veggies and seafood was cooked well (not over or undercooked). * Orange Chicken: 7.5/10 Tastes exactly like panda express but with a slightly better frying method? However, the pieces of chicken was a lot less substantial (many random thin and small pieces) I would note that the dishes do take a while to be made and brought out. We honestly wanted to try the pan fried pork buns but the quantity was too much for us to justify ordering it for just the two of us (on top everything else). I think that may be the only thing I would come back to try. Since it is very close to my home that's another appeal but otherwise, I feel like most other Chinese spots are comparable.

There are so many offerings from bubble tea, egg tart, dumplings and noodles. We were seated quickly and noted most patrons did take out. Once seated there is a server that takes your order. We ordered beef chow fun, green onion pancake, fried rice, salad, green beans and dumplings. Everything came out so fast! The food was fresh with that familiar wok essence from the noodles and rice. Yummy!!! Favorite was the dumplings with the chives and meats. So good!!! Will return to eat and eat again!

The first time I've ordered almost a week ago was the pork hash, garlic green beans, mabo tofu with noodles, rice noodle and dumplings, and a pork belly dish with rice (can't remember the name). My favorite has to be the rice noodle cake with dumplings. It had peanut sauce and even reheating it on the stove made it satisfying to eat as leftovers. Each dish had between 6-8 pork and shrimp dumplings. The portions are generous which is enough for two meals. The pork hash came in 3s with the hot mustard and shoyu. Again these were good as well and not as oily and greasy. The pork belly was stringy and the rice was meh. It tries way too hard to copy Tom Khem which is a Laos dish. My mom had the tofu dish and after a while she did mention that the noodles got mushy and had no flavor. Then again she had to take a blood test so she had to watch her salt intake. I also tried the tofu and it was soft and not overly salty. The second time I ordered which was today, I replaced the rice dish with the char siu noodle soup and it was so good. It was the right portion size and the hot broth that's separate from the contents help soften the noodles. I also ordered coconut pudding and even though I have yet to try it, my mom said it was really good so I'm looking forward to it. Edit: I have now tried the coconut pudding and it was a generous portion. A nice refreshing and cold treat especially since we are now in the summer season. There is just a hint of coconut flavor though and shredded coconut flakes don't exist but it's still worth eating as a dessert or a snack. On both orders, I've ordered garlic green beans and it was the best tasting garlicky green beans I have ever tried. Overall, this place does serve good food but I'll probably skip the rice dishes and focus more on the noodle dishes and their sides.
