I've always eaten here and it dawned on me that I never did a review on them, which is well deserved. Anyway, the noodles are amazing-actually, almost everything they serve is amazing. I ordered my take out Gyoza and veggie two slices of charsiu ramen. It was alright while waiting for my order I started to speak to the chef in the kitchen since we are regular's when craving for their ramen. The young Asian server suddenly her attitude changed gave me the coldest shoulder she gave me! She deliberately turned herself away from me! What's her issue with me just speaking to the chef in Japanese! I'm a regular there she's feels left out to give me her attitude she shouldn't work there! I care not whose connection or part timer she is. I too worked as a server when I was in college but my senior servers were very strict with me in which I didn't care for but I had to make a living to pay for my tuition! The ramen shop was located in the Lanai food court at Ala Moana Center. I ordered the #2 Seasoned Egg Ramen as it was one of the recommended items. I was given a pager to let me know when my food was ready. It was decent bowl of ramen. It was a light, clear, French-inspired consommé broth, a nice break from the more popular greasy tonkotsu broth. I wouldn't mind coming back to try their other flavors. read more

We went here a couple weeks ago. I ordered a creamy chicken ramen and risotto because that's wildly different and may be worth the try. The order I asked was entered wrong and was a cheese tomato chicken ramen and honestly very strange. Couldn't figure out how to eat it with a cup of rice and cheese on the side. Still, tomato in ramen is strange that I went home with the mostly vegetables and soup left. I repurposed it to make sinigang. The gyoza ordered were good though! Cheers that it has 31 days to celebrate the one carb that I love...and here at Kamukura Ramen a place that's been on my list for quite some time that I finally get to give a peek as I've heard so much about them and the choices they have from their Grand Menu of Oishi Ramen to Hawaii Special Menu of Cheese Tomato that I actually really wanted to try but did notice the "Chicken Char Siu Ramen" as it consists of Yuzu Lemon Flavor that I love. I really wanted to sit one of their counter seats but since it was thirty minutes to closing I was denied which I totally understand but what a bummer as it was a much comforting vibe. Once I found one of many seatings available in Lanai Food Court packing was nice as they separate the noodle and soup which was okay as the yuzu was like a yuzu pepper paste you need to mix in with the soup and had more of a sharper pepper flavor than yuzu which was disappointing but their gyoza was quite huge with five pieces in an order had a nice chewy wrapper filled that was a generous serving along with a packet of sauce for their convenience but was an inconvenience for me as it was impossible to dip. Keeping the kama'aina in mind with giving a free 1/2 seasoned egg with a proof of Hawaii State ID is nice to keep us coming back for more to support this gem located in the Lanai Food Court. KHON2 featured this restaurant in their news segment a couple of years ago and I've been wanting to try it out since. I've visited The Lanai Food Court many times afterwards, but I kept ending up with steak, burgers, Korean food or musubis. It took me a little over two years, but happy I finally got around to it! Hungry for ramen? We tried Kamukura Ramen inside one of Ala Moana's food court by Macy's side. The staff was friendly and even tried to help me decide on what to try from their menu. Be prepared to enjoy your ramen in a food court area with lots of people which means loud noises. We tried the Tan Tan Ramen with Deep Fried Gyoza. The Tan Tan Ramen is seasoned perfectly with the perfect temperature with every bite. The Deep Fried Gyoza was yummm too! I'd probably ask for more sauce next time ;) One packet sauce was not enough. I'd say try them. For a ramen place in a food court area, Kamukura Ramen will have you coming back for more of their food. Great service, made to order dishes. We ordered fried rice, gyozas, and chicken karaage, they were all delicious. Especially the fried rice was made with Japanese rice that were more round and had a firmer texture, was especially enjoyable. As you walk into the food court it's on your right side when you walk in Ambiance is cheery, clean and bright with a seating area if you decide to dine in lol rather than sit in the larger food court I ordered the oishi ramen for that light broth with napa cabbage and some gyoza. The oishii ramen had a light flavour that was refreshing. The noodles were cooked perfectly, too! While the char siu was as powerful as I would have liked, it went well with the lighter broth. I really enjoyed the cabbage in it, too. Service was fast, and the noren screen kept the sound out pretty decently. The price is a bit high, but the ramen for now is the best ramen I've had on island in a while. I even drank the broth, which I usually leave. O would 100% go back. Looking for something to eat after visiting Made in Hawaii and since we were parked at the mall we checked out the small food court located near Macys. My honey and I enjoy trying different ramen restaurants so once we same Kamukura Ramen it was an easy decision. We both refuse to eat ramen without egg in it so we got the same dish, Seasoned Egg Ramen for $17.98. Ramen was ready in a few minutes. It doesn't look like other ramen as the broth is clear. The taste though blew us away. Where does all that flavor come from? The noodles were nice and chewy and the egg was good. I was not a fan of the cabbage though. Kamukura Ramen is located at the Lanai on mall level at Ala Moana Center. What I liked about this place was the ambience and exclusivity it offered despite being in a public eating space. They had these beautiful, flowy curtains that gave their own ramen bar seating an exclusive feel. If there was space open you could "eat in" at the bar. We got lucky as two people just left as we ordered. Otherwise you have to find a seat among the rest of the open food court (good luck). Kamukura has a variety of ramen. We ordered the half portions of the Tan Tan Ramen and the Aburi Char Siu Ramen. Both the tan tan and aburi char siu were good (solid 7.5/10). Both half portion ramen bowls were the perfect size as we also ordered the gyoza, which was huge, delicious, and the REAL star of the show guys! Be sure to order the gyoza when you come here! The broth is lighter than typical tonkotsu but still really flavorful, and the noodles have that perfect chewy texture. Okay. I was in the mood for ramen and had come back to try it out since I didn't last time. We sat at the bar, a little private dining from the rest of the food court. Watching the chefs prepare your perfect bowl of ramen, trying the broth to ensure it's desired taste, was something I appreciate. When it came out piping hot, I couldn't help but drool a little in my mouth. My first bite was just "Wow. This is so good." Another with some tender, sliced pork belly and a few pieces of chopped napa cabbage was so refreshing (as most ramen places give you the standard Bena sprouts). The broth though...it was piping HOT (like you don't understand how much J appreciate piping HOT broth in my ramen noodle soup). It tasted very pure, not fatty at all, nor did it leave my mouth with a salt taste or coating on my tongue. My DD usually doesn't like a lot of soup, preferring more noodles but she actually asked for MORE soup after tasting a few spoonfuls. The ambiance reminded me of having ramen at a bar in Tokyo. I love Kamukura ramen. With 100 restaurants, this being the 100th and the first one in Hawaii. The Original Oishi ramen's broth is consommé base, it's a light mild and a hint of sweetness from the cabbage. Similar to an old school ramen place that your grandparents use to take you to. So if you want something simple and comforting this is your bowl ... and all the pork slices are tasty and tender. If you want a more robust flavor, you might want to consider their Tantan ramen served either Hot or Cold. And if you want it Spicy, they are releasing their New Volcano Ramen! Starting July 1,2024. Only served here in Hawaii. It reminds me of a premium spicy Kimchee Shin ramen. Note: All of their soup base, ramen noodles, and gyoza wrappers are all from Japan. Soooo you know the quality is really good. The ambiance is in the Lanai Food court in Ala moana, and they are nestled in the corner with a beautiful white curtain. Once you pass thru the curtains, you will be transported to Japan and met with such a friendly happy Japanese Staff. Pro Tip: if you want a "Real" bowl and utensils, sit at the counter. I've seen this ramen stall at The Lanai Food Court many times and decided to try it today. I got their most popular ramen bowl #2 Seasoned Egg Ramen $17.98. It had white cabbage, pork, roasted pork and ajitama. I also tried their five piece gyoza $7.99. As with any ramen it's the broth that makes the dish. The broth that I got today was fantastic. It was light, clean, non greasy and tasted great. The dashi really came through. The pork was tender with the right amount of fat. The ajitama was cooked to perfection. I love a perfect ajitama. The gyoza was alright. It had a nice amount of pork and veggie filling. It came with a packet of gyoza sauce. Don't forget to check in first when you come here. They were giving out 15% off coupons outside of the Honolulu Marathon expo. I wasnt able to go before the marathon but the coupon was good for the whole week. I made there the day after the marathon and the noodle soup was great. The broth is much lighter and less fatty than other places. The noodles were cooked just right with a chewy texture. Came here for a quick eats because wifey is hungry and just came out from her procedure which requires her to fast for 12hrs. Luckily no long queue so we immediately got our order. Fast food ramen at its best. If you are on the go and hungering for a quick bite then this place is definitely a tasty option. At 7pm we were happy to visit and sample the warm broth on a cool night. The miso ramen has a thicker type of broth with seasoned pork and green onion. We ordered the smaller portion but next time will go bigger. The egg ramen was so good..I think this was my favorite. The noodles and the salt broth hit the spot with the meat tenderly cooked. The best part of the meal was the gyoza. The dumplings were a nice size and plump with filling definitely hand made. We also ordered karage and that was just okay and seemed a little too dry like it was prepared earlier and reheated so maybe won't order that again. The seating at the bar was closed so we opted for the open seating at a small table at the food court. It wasn't too busy and so atmosphere was quieter than normal. Cashier: Well, most popular is the #2 Seasoned Egg Ramen and the #11 BBQ Beef Ramen. Me: Would I be able to substitute the bean sprouts for extra cabbage (referring to #11)? Cashier: Let me check..(asks the chef then returns)...yes, we will give you cabbage in exchange for beansprouts. Me: Okay, I'll have the BBQ Beef Ramen...and a side order of chicken. ... Cashier: ...Gives me a buzzer that alerts me when my order is ready ... Me: I walk to the restroom and back, and shortly upon returning, the buzzer rings. I grab my order and find a table nearby. What do I think? I like it! :thumbs up: (1) BBQ BEEF RAMEN The up: The $21.99 ramen is so pretty with the BBQ meat stacked upon the ramen. The broth is mildly murky and delicious. The BBQ meat is soft and smokey. The ramen is al dente, perfect. The bean sprouts that I can't eat are non-existent replaced by cabbage. Garlic chips add a nice flavor to the dish. The down: I did wish there were more noodles and that the serving was much larger considering the high $22 price. (2) SIDE ORDER OF FRIED CHICKEN The up: Very tasty, fried chicken morsels. The down: The overall look of the $7.99 dish as pictured is fantastic but upon closer inspection of the actual order, most of the heft is fried skin fried in such a way that the skin are longer fried strips of skin that create the illusion of a dense side dish which are really just small pieces of chicken surrounded by large pieces of battered skin. So, not many chicken pieces for the price and the pieces are oily. On my second visit, I ordered: (3) SEASONED EGG RAMEN The up: Delicious! Similar to the BBQ Beef ramen above but instead, just with a couple pork slices and an egg. The down: Same as the above ramen. Not much in there for the price. Wished I had known to add the $1.99 1.5x ramen upgrade but that would have increased the price to $20 just for mostly noodles. (4) SIDE ORDER GYOZA Contains chives which was a pleasant surprise. When you been craving ramen a week, you're willing to pay $25 for a bowl! Was it worth it? Jury is still out... Got there little before 9am, after my dentist down the street. My hygenist even looked up what was open and found Kamakura for me. Most places open at 11, so big plus already. Examining the menu. Everything sounded good...after Googling "aburi" I decided on that. I still had a few minutes and Chef (?) came to tell me not open yet...but girl came right over from behind and said she would take my order. I was more than happy to wait, but that was very nice of her. Another plus! Got to my office and the dilemma...do I eat it at 9:15-ish or wait til lunch. I decided to sneak a sniff and wait til lunch. Soup separate so everything stayed good...I just had to reheat the shiru. Pretty good. Char siu soft and not super fatty. 4 thick slices. Ramen cooked well and had a good taste. Broth was a little sweet and oily for me, but not a biggie. A lot of food for me with a small snack worth leftover...I can see the local boys needing side chicken and gyoza to fill up. So worth $25? I'd say on occasion I'd pull the trigger. We had just shopped at Macy's and everything was closing. Kids wanted ramen, so we felt lucky that Kamukura Ramen in the mini food court was still open. We got the Oishi Ramen without toppings for the kids to share (tip: be sure to ask for the toppings on the side for the adults to eat because the price isn't less for only broth and noodles). The toppings were cabbage and some roasted pork, which were tasty. The noodles weren't too soft and seemed handmade - kids ate it all, so we were happy with that! The karaage was also okay - not the best we've had, but okay for "food court" food. The reason for the two star deduction is because the kimchi fried rice was very soggy and in fact, gross - I took one bite and threw the rest away, which was very disappointing. The gyoza was quickly made, so it was still cold in the middle, and had to be thrown away as well. This spot complimented our need for a quick meal at the Ala Moana mini food court near Macy's, but we definitely won't be back. Unfortunately, I don't even take pictures of the food because there were two huge flies hovering over the tables (tables and chairs were also unclean, and I had to wipe them down twice), so I wanted the kids to eat as quickly as possible and get out of the area. read more

My wife comes here for lunch. First time I tried it. Had the vegan tan tan ramen. It was delicious. At least as good as onoya's and jinya's vegan offering. Only problem is it is in Waikiki. I recommend eating at the counter because the ambiance is a lot more relaxing than at a table in the food court. I tried a special tan tan half size ramen for $9.99 and a side order of gyoza. The tantan ramen was good, noodles at the right texture and the tantan broth was really good. Their home made gyoza was fantastic too, lots of filling and tasty, The half size was a good size for a quick lunch. My mom also ordered the same thing and she said wow the broth was really good, she felt like she was eating in Japan.
