The pho was clean and I was impressed with the spring rolls. The Hue beef noodles were pretty mediocre, and it doesn't come with the side vegetables like what I'm use to for a bun bo hue, don't get recommend that. When compared to the other Vietnamese restaurants, this place is also lacking in the spicy sauce. They have the basic sriracha and hoisin.. the uncle was serving, seems like the boss there. I went for the 1st time and had the crab curry which is very rich and the small is a generous amount it is $30 so dont waste any. You can also order French bread or rice for $3 (7/26) or eat as is. I got the rich which was great. I just warmed up the left over and combined it it with fresh made linguine. I have enough left overs for another meal. Errands + Bac Nam = perfect combo. It had been awhile since I've been to Bac Nam Restaurant, but I stopped in for takeout while running errands -- and it absolutely hit the craving. What I ordered: House Special Curry #53 - Crabmeat Curry w/ French Bread Rich, savory, comforting, and full of flavor. The French bread was perfect for dipping. So yummers. Appetizer #09 - Chicken Wrap w/ French Bread & Sauce Fresh, tasty, and paired perfectly with the sauce. Light but satisfying. Vietnamese Iced Coffee That smooth, sweet zing you need to power through your work day. Everything was packaged well for takeout. The service is awesome, the staff is great, and you can really feel the culture and warmth when you walk in. The restaurant is always clean and cool inside. Sometimes you take things for granted. I take this place for granted, and this review is long overdue. It's one of our favorite go-to restaurants. We come often and are never disappointed. I don't have a Vietnamese grandmother but if I did I imagine this is what eating in her home would feel like--cozy and comforting. I imagine that the food from her kitchen would taste like this--full of flavor and love. It's a family-run, small business and the owner always greets us with a warm smile and nod of recognition. He must have lots of regulars because I notice he offers this greeting to many of the clientele. Like us, they don't really need a menu because they come knowing what they want. My husband always gets the Bun Rieu, crab noodle soup. He has a conversation with the owner every time saying he was thinking of trying something else but can't pass up the Bun Rieu. The owner teases him that he knows his order! Such wonderful connection with customers. I'm no better but at least I differ between two dishes, the seafood egg noodle soup and the Bun with lemongrass tofu. It just depends on my mood and the weather outside. Neither disappoints me. Service is not just courteous but fast. We often eat here between errands and appointments or when we're very 'hangry' because we know we'll be served quickly. It's a place we can count on for taste and timing. Try them out. You'll start counting on them too...parking is in a lot in the back or on the street. They have a side room for larger parties. We haven't used it yet but I've seen larger groups in there. So if you're running around town and just want a place to get some great food fast or you want to come with a gang for a good time, stop by Bac Nam. This was my third stop of my Bun Bo Hue challenge. And it's another excellent meal. Here, it's simple. It's mostly pig trotter. The broth was rich in beef flavor. Piping hot. The service was very quick. The food came out quick too. This is the OG of Vietnamese food restaurant. I don't remember when it wasn't here. Stopped here purely on Yelp ratings to try out their pho. Started off with the Steamed Dumplings...wow. So much flavor packed into those small dumplings. The outside was chewy and went well with the stuffing and the toppings. The pho broth was one of the best we've tried (and we've tried tons from the west side to the east side). Omg... I try not to review after one time of dining in but when it's THIS GOOD? I genuinely can't help it! I very much appreciate the work that goes into cooking. But wow. The food here tastes so... clean? Dare I say the pho broth was some of the best broth I've had. Sometimes broth can have a little bit of a strange (ever so slight) taste to it.. maybe it's just me.. but this seemed like a step ahead of others I've had. As if they cleaned the bones a bit before simmering down, IDK. Also their spring rolls were delicate, as if fried lightly in oil--it wasn't heavy! Sometimes I feel like places reuse oil and you can tell. Also, they gave a ton of lettuce and noodles, which some restaurants lack. And props to them for having a parking lot. That helps on this busy street. The staff here were also nice and quick, attentive to every table. Just overall quite impressed. Will definitely be back. Steamed dumplings (Banh bot loc) was cooked perfectly with a crunchy bottom and topped with herb and fried onions and dipping sauce. Banh xeo was crisp with a crunch, savory filling and served with a generous portion of vegetables. Lemon beef salad, hot seasoned cubes of beef on a bed of salad with pleasant lemon dressing. Why has it taken me so long to know about this place?! Our friends brought us here for a treat saying this was one of the best Vietnamese restaurants. Loved the service here... it's a husband and wife team and they are on top of it! We ordered a lot from the famous crab curry to spring rolls, tamarind beef salad and some rolls we were to make ourselves. That one was a total fail because let me tell you.. I am not good at wrapping my own rice paper rolls! We ended up just eating it without the wrapper. Many local regulars were seen here and it's BYOB! The crab curry is so good with the French bread! Crab Curry is what you want to order - pair it with a crispy piece of french bread or a bit of rice and you won't be disappointed at all. We've come at different times of the day, and the service is always welcoming and quick. We've sat in the front area several times, but if you get a chance to sit in the second dinning room, that's is even better, a little quieter with the tables a bit further apart. We were in the mood for pho, and I was taken to a Vietnamese restaurant that the locals go to for pho. There's parking in the back of the restaurant if you don't want to park on the street. As you walk in the restaurant, you can smell the broth. There is also additional searing if you walk to the left as soon as you enter the restaurant. I ordered the summer roll, spring rolls, and the steak pho. The summer roll comes in a single order, and I ordered the roll with shrimp and pork. The summer roll was loosely wrapped, so it fell apart as I was eating the roll. The spring rolls came with vermicelli noodles and vegetables. The broth on the steak pho was delicious! I think I finished most of the soup even after I ate my bowl of pho. The service was good as well. We had waters at our table as soon as we sat, and they were always filled. This is my go to place for pho when I go in to the office. I have been coming here for quite some time. The pho is always on point. I love the consistency. I either order the chicken or seafood pho. On occasion when I got there with the wife we'll order a spring roll appetizer. Always love that. The owner is such a nice man and he usually knows what you are going to order if you are a regular. My first visit to Bac Nam was quite the hoot So here are a few things you should know 1. looks can be deceiving. there is a larger seating area to the left of the entrance to Bac Nam 2. parking is an arduous task. They have 5 assigned stalls in the rear of the building for first come first park diners. Street parking available during the day or after 6:30 pm for dinner 3. take out dishes are very popular 4. if you have questions ask TAM who is the owner, operator, dishwasher, etc. You get the picture? He's so personable I am a creature of habit so rather than to try a new dish, I ordered my usual spring roll salad (sliced spring rolls, vermicelli over shredded vegetables) with their sweet chili sauce. It was HUGE, such that I consumed only half of what they served (HINT- order food to share or eat family style) So that said, I am unable to speak to the other dishes they prepare Soft drinks available for purchase. We received a gift certificate last Christmas and I didn't realize that they expire within a year. The original purchaser purchased it in October so it is past the year. I called to ask if there were any accommodations that could be made since we received them in December and was just flat out told no. In times like this, it doesn't hurt to be nice and accommodating, especially given the fact that they already took the money from the gift sender. I'm not sure why we have never been to this location. We wanted some pho but didn't want to pay the outrageous price of our normal place anymore and didn't want to have to deal with looking for parking downtown. I found this place using Yelp and I am so glad we tried it today! We ordered to-go and are all really enjoying our Pho. It was a little weird and a little disappointing that all the meat was already in the soup part (when ordering pho to-go the raw meat is usually on the side with the noodles so it's not over cooked) and sadly, our "rare" meat was definitely over cooked. The service was good, quick and to the point. It's not a huge restaurant, only a handful of tables. The inside was clean and I look forward to returning and eating there. Hidden gem! Quality food at reasonable prices. Always walked by this unassuming establishment but eventually went in but visited on a whim and is very happy with my decision. They are actually surprisingly busy (glad they are though, support local businesses!), at least the past couple of times I have visited. The first time I visited I got the vermicelli noodles with bbq chicken and spring rolls. Very flavorful and delicious. My partner got the pho and although he said he's had better, it was still delicious and he finished it all. We also ordered summer rolls to get started and that was a great start to our meal, we love summer rolls so much LOL. I will be discussing in more detail the second time I visited as I lack pictures from the first time. Again, everything was sooo flavorful and delicious, the little sweet chili sauce they provide for the spring rolls (also comes with all the BUN, vermicelli, dishes, as well as the rice plate my friend got) is delicious, it really completes the plain noodles/rice. The baguette that came with my friends curry was delicious too, feels like it was home made and just perfectly compliments her curry. It had a slight crisp while being perfectly doughy (we love bread in this house). My other friend got the bbq pork plate, I honestly do not remember much about this as she ate most of it by herself. She enjoyed it quite a lot and the cucumbers were a good refreshing cut to the pork's flavor. I ordered the spicy BBQ chicken skewers, they were amazing, would definitely recommend and order again. I got the summer rolls again because I will always order them when I get the chance to, especially with how much I love the peanut sauce it comes with. What can I say about Bac Nam. Their foods are delicious and flavorful!! First visit here, excited to order their crab curry and this was really good! We ordered a small portion, this was shared by the 3 adults and still took home the leftovers. Their portion servings are very generous and prices reasonable for the amount of food. Ordered the vermicelli with bbq pork and spring rolls, daughter ordered the veggie w/tofu pho in beef broth. The bun was delicious and I took home 2/3 of this.
