Came here for a pho fix and this spot did not disappoint! The pho was super tasty, and I really appreciated that they had Thai chili peppers available--I like to mix those with fish sauce and lime to make a dipping sauce for the meats in my pho and for the raw meat served on the side. It hit just right. My girlfriend got the pork chop, and she loved it. Their homemade nuoc mam went perfectly with it--great balance of sweet, salty, and tangy. We also tried the summer rolls, and they were fresh and flavorful. That peanut dipping sauce? Honestly one of the best I've had--so creamy and addicting. Bonus points for being open really early (love that!) and the restaurant itself is nice and cool inside, which made the whole experience even better. Definitely a go-to spot for solid Vietnamese food!

Way over due with this review...been taking my family to this spot for years. Small family owned with authentic Vietnamese dishes. Everything on the menu is GoOD. Service is always friendly and they go beyond to provide your needs especially with my babies lol. Thank you soooo much Michael

Legggiiittt place. Authentic Vietnamese I suppose coz people spoke Vietnamese and the tv had Vietnamese fruit channel on lol, like they're speaking in Vietnamese explaining everything about dragonfruits for one whole hour. I don't think I can even watch that if I understood Vietnamese lol. Anyway the food. The food! We tried their Bun Bo Hue and bun rieu and both were delicious! Savory and with depth. Between the two I liked the Bun Bo Hue a little better but you can't go wrong with either. I was surprised even in their bun rieu they put porks blood and pork knuckle as well, alongside with the Vietnamese ham, soft tofu and of course a lot of fresh herbs which I greatly appreciated. Their egg rolls were delicious too! Good flavor with plenty of herbs and rice noodles. The dipping sauce could use more garlic. The server spoke perfect English so it wouldn't be a problem ordering here without speaking Vietnamese. The food also came out in a timely manner. As for environment, it's an Asian restaurant in Chinatown, so don't expect anything modern modern or sparkling clean, hey but sometimes that's where you gotta go to find good food. I only saw one high chair for the entire restaurant but at least they had one lol. Next time we would try other stuff!

When a restaurant is filled with people of the same ethnic background as itself, it's a clear indicator the place is legit! That was the case at Anh Hong--my fourth stop (my third was Pho To Chau, but nothing new. Still good!) in my Pho Quest. The whole place was nearly full when I arrived, and eventually filled up with immediate turnover while I was there, and this was a Monday. All Vietnamese. I'm part French via Vietnam. Does that count? I couldn't say the same for other places. In fact, the other places I've been to were basically empty. Ahn Hong is located along North King Street, near River Street. It's in between Golden River Vietnamese Restaurant and Kieu Vietnamese Restaurant. Just a bit down from Kekaulike Street. I just park at the Chinatown Municipal Parking that you enter from Ala Moana Boulevard. It's all metered parking. Inside was clean and bright. Yes, Combination Pho again! My first sip of the broth, it was clean while rich in flavor with the taste of herbs and spices. The broth was close to one at Pho To Chau. "Is this better??? Better than To Chau??" was what entered my mind after having the broth, and I believe it might be. Every ingredient in the pho was exceedingly fresh. From the bean sprouts, culantro, basil, rare steak, tendon, cilantro, and etc. This is the only place where I could taste the cilantro (I abhor it), and found it acceptable. All the beef was tender and tasty, and prepared very well. Even the beef meatballs tasted better here. Everything was precisely portioned. The noodles were slightly more skinnier, but had a nice firmness and texture. The broth temperature was just right. Slightly extra warm to better cook the raw vegetables. The large size was the perfect amount for me. The saté sauce was very good--a nice balance between spicy and savory. Overall, Ahn Hong might be my favorite now. Not just because there were a lot of Vietnamese eating there, but also the food was just spot on. Everything was very fresh and very well prepared. The service was excellent--very friendly and attentive. I'll definitely be back for more pho and other things!

Lunch in Honolulu's Chinatown... When metered street parking is free on Sundays, that's one of the best days (besides holidays) to dine in Chinatown! Why else would you want to go where some unsavory characters hang out on the sidewalks and in doorway nooks? Another benefit of dining in Chinatown is the lower prices at certain establishments. The rent is probably lower and the volume of customers might be higher. Dear Daniel had some free time between appointments and said that he was craving some Vietnamese soup. Ok - I haven't been to Anh Hong before - let's go! Located on King Street, near the River Street intersection, Anh Hong is one of the many Vietnamese restaurants in the area. Inside, the environment looks clean, new, and spacious. There's supposed to be a convenient restroom, but I didn't check it out... Another perk of this restaurant is the complimentary "tea water". It may not sound like much, but on a warm July afternoon, it is refreshing! It's like a watered down barley-ish tea with ice. It's unsweetened and not bitter... Just right! Service was quite good! Dear Daniel had to ask for the little chopped chili peppers that usually come on the side. Other than that, I have no complaints. I ordered the #14 which is BBQ pork and Spring Rolls on vermicelli. It's my "go to" dish because it has some of everything: fresh veggies, fried Spring Rolls, grilled pork, and boiled noodles. That's carbs, fiber, and protein - all in one bowl! The sweet chili sauce with pickled shredded carrots and daikon gave the dish added flavor! Yum! I wouldn't mind returning... As long as it's on a Sunday or holiday... LOL!

How rare it is to have a viet restaurant that serves different noodle soups and every single one is a good. So good that we were there 3 times during our trip and have been telling everyone it's a must stop in Honolulu. Highly recommend the hu tieu mi (nice clean squiddy broth with perfectly cooked egg noodles, I recommend subbing the egg noodles since the original noodles are thicker and a different texture) You can't go wrong with ordering a bun rieu (pork/crab soup), pho, banh canh, and spring rolls! Wishing for a place like this near home..

Best bun bo hue I've had on the island ! Restaurant dining area is small, maybe 8 tables? Bf ordered combo pho which was also really tasty. I got the BBH, which we both really enjoyed. The soup was hot and really tasty. All the toppings were really good.

Loved the Bun Bo Hue that I have been craving for weeks. This place has the authentic Bun Bo Hue with pig feet and blood pudding. The banana flower condiment was also sooo good. Not many places in the town serve with the banana flower so I am so thankful that they do. The service was nice as well. We were a little skeptical about the tea flavored water because I didn't know if it was because it wasn't washed properly. It was this faint flavor or soy or barley tea so I wasn't too sure. Overall I had a great experience and will be back when we can get to Chinatown.

Anh Hong is easily the best Vietnamese restaurant in Chinatown. I'm from the Bay Area so my tastebuds for authentic Vietnamese food is admittedly pretty snobby. My brother and I arrived around 11am on Sunday morning and was greeted by the sweet lady owner. There were other guests situated already so she sat us at a table closest to the door -- being mindful of social distancing us from other diners. I ordered their Bun Rieu (Crab and Tomato soup) and my brother ordered their Bun Bo Hue (Vietnamese Spicy Beef Soup). The soup for both dishes were piping hot when brought out from the kitchen and the appropriate noodles were used for each item (yes, using the "right" noodles are especially important in Vietnamese cooking). The flavors were stellar and as close to "home" as it's going to get while in Oahu. Be sure to ask for all the appropriate condiments so you can bring out all the authentic flavors for each specialty noodle soup. There were so many other items that looked really appealing also so I'm looking forward to trying something different next time. #SupportLocalSmallBusinesses

Two and a half stars. Was forced to try another pho place because my favorite one in aiea is somehow closed. Decided to try this one because I had already tried the other pho places around there and didn't care for any around Chinatown area. Eh, walked in and found that a big party had just left. I was seated right away and pleasantly surprised that they served coconut water instead of regular water. Ordered spring rolls, summer rolls and a beef flank and brisket. The appetizers came pretty quickly then the pho came out. To begin with the appetizers were quite different. The summer rolls come with a piece of char siu inside with the shrimp. The rolls were rather tightly wrapped and smaller. The spring rolls were ok. The meat inside had a different taste to it but I enjoyed the fixings that came with it. Lots of basil and cucumber which I always appreciate. The pho on the other hand was a different flavor than I expected and ever tasted. First of all I noticed that they might have cooked some beef in the broth for it's cloudy. I do not like the taste of cooked blood in my broth. I like my broth clear as possible. Secondly I took a bite of a nice piece of beef but it honestly had a strange after taste that I didn't care for at all. I just ate the noodles with the vegetables I put in it but left all the beef and the broth. I always get disappointed when it comes to a different pho taste that I'm used to. It has a sweeter taste to it which I don't care for. However I might be not used to a different style of pho. I am figuring out that probably which place the cook comes from is the way they cook the pho. The taste is different from different parts of Vietnam I am sure. I didn't care for this one but a lot of Vietnamese customers came in speaking the language and seem to be regulars so they're used to that pho. The people are hard working and courteous and the place is rather clean. I just have my own preference but honestly I'm sure others might want to try for a different taste.

So the thing about coming to Fun Station is the "suspended flying noodle thingy" which I didn't go for, but if you like Instagramable stuffs, then I supposed you would probably go for that flying-noodle dish. As for me, I mainly came to try their Minute Chicken Cake Noodles, and as a bonus......... I actually got a 20% discount thanks to my friend - Jennifer C. who let a Bruddah know about da DEALAGES in da Sunday food section newspaper, as they had a coupon! The Sunday morning when I came with my friend, I can clearly see that this restaurant was thriving, as every table in the restaurant was taken. Fun Station specializes in noodles, but if you're not into that, they do serve other items like - soups, vegetable dishes, rice plates, & porridge (jook). Upon looking over the menu, we ordered the following items - 1. Frrrrrrried Chicken Wings ($9.95) for an appetizer 2. Minute Chicken Cake Noodles ($17.95 - minus da 20% coupon DEALAGES) 3. Beef Brisket Tendon & Won Ton in soup ($18.95) What can I say about da grub??? Da chicken wings came out hot & crispy. Although they featured only "flats" vs. drums (I like drums), I must say da wings was nicely executed. As for the Minute Chicken Cake Noodles.........nicely plated on a fancy smanshy panda plate. The cake noodles weren't drowning in gravy, so the noodles stayed crispy on the dish. I really liked how they did this dish, and would easily come back here to eat it again. My friend had the Beef Brisket Tendon & Won Ton soup. The dish looked good, and there weren't any complaints, so I take it that it was pretty ono! Overall, a very satisfying meal and the service here was on point, as the staff was friendly & very efficient. Easy 5 stars for the Minute Chicken Cake Noodles! Chance 'em!

When I first came here, my friend and I decided to give it a try because we saw the longest line and wanted to see what all the hype was about. There was a couple in front of us who said they come here every time they visit Hawaiʻi and that it's a must-do stop on every trip. When you walk in, it's a small place. You can watch a team member washing the noodles and portioning them into bowls right in front of you. Then you choose your bowl size, small or large, and select your broth. After that, you get to choose from a variety of fried items and other à la carte options displayed on a warmer. Seating can be limited because of how busy this place gets. You line up to get your food, pay for it, grab your condiments, utensils, and a cup of water, then find a seat and enjoy. I've already been here twice, and after writing about my experience, I need to make a third visit happen very soon! There are not enough days off in a week to enjoy all of the amazing food on this island, but I'm going to do my best to experience as many places as I can. I finally decided why not and came with a friend on new years day lunch time. They were pretty busy already after just 30ish minutes of opening (12pm). Service: We were seated immediately and the service method is pretty simple, you scan the QR code and order through there. My main gripe with this service method is the waitresses aren't as attentive, we couldn't really ask any questions prior to ordering and even after ordering, I had to stand up to the front and wave someone down to pay for our order (as they had a special they had to apply before we paid). We ordered: - Spicy Beef Pancake: 10/10, didn't expect to like this so much as well. Not that spicy to be honest. More like a light spicy flavor. The beef inside was also juicy. - Pan-fried pork bun: 10/10, I was honestly looking forward to this more than the XLB and I was correct to do so. The filling was juicy like a XLB but the dough was also fluffy, doughy, AND has a crispy bottom. Would come back just for this and recommend this 10 times over!! - Sui Mai: 8.8/10; this was like any other good sui mai you may get at different dimsum places. Just pork though, no mushroom or seafood chucks like some other spots. - Steamed Beef with Sticky Rice: 8.1/10. This wasn't bad by any means but just didn't compare to the rest of the items. I didn't like how some parts were super fatty. - Xiao Long Bao: 10/10, the wrapped is thin but thick enough for me to pick up the dumpling without it popping. The soup was flavorful and so was the pork within. They had a special going on which made our XLB be like $5 instead of the $14 it usually is. We were super surprised of how little our bill was give that we were stuffed at the end of the meal and had some leftovers. Even without the discount it would've been a great deal. I heavily recommend, especially the pan-fried pork bun and XLB!!

We went on a Sunday for lunch and they were pretty busy but we only had to wait maybe 10 - 15 min. Service was very speedy. Cute Chinatown shop vibes.

Inside, the space feels busy with tables and people moving around. There are benches inside for those waiting for a table. We had to wait a bit before we were seated but they seemed efficient in ushering people in and out of the restaurant. The middle had smaller tables, which seemed most suitable for two people. The sides had larger tables for larger parties. The tables felt pretty close together but we enjoyed the stool/bench chairs we sat on. They were different than what we are used to in restaurants. Our order was taken quickly. We decided to get the beef chow fun, yang chow fried rice, and cheong fun. The cheong fun was good, especially after adding hoisin sauce. The texture was soft and the portion was quite decent. The chow fun was also yummy. It was tasty without being overbearing. The fried rice was our favorite. It was flavorful and included a variety of ingredients. The prices were not bad either, considering the portion sizes. We hope to be back one day to try more of what they have!

By far my favorite Taiwanese go to restaurant!…read more I highly recommend their popcorn chicken, so crispy, so juicy and the leaves not sure if they were basil or sobering else but the way they fry them and get them to also be super crispy is amazing. IRREGARDLESS I'd go back for the popcorn chicken (crispy, light fry, bite sized) and air conditioning. Sometimes Chinese food can get super saucy so the small plates - cucumbers, rolls, baos, and veg - work for me. It's serious 家常菜 or home-style cooking or quick food you'd find on the street: ong-choy, tomato-braised scrambled egg, garlic cabbage, essentially all the greats, shareable. Seasons also offers the beef soupy noodle sets, but when it's 85+ degrees out and sunny and 80% humidity, I do question ppl's judgement. I've always loved the Plaza, empty and partly abandoned, bec/ the design is conducive to good airflow and cooling, a much underappreciated architectural element in modern downtowns. But the bums and indigent love it more and sadly always leave some je ne sais quoi. Seasons finds itself across from the dim sum behemoth in Chinatown, Legends, but that's a different flavor profile. Still, quite nice to have variety.

We were told that the first batch would be served about 11 a.m. so we quickly put our order in. The first thing that caught my attention, was the savory aroma of their 5-spice ground pork being cooked. You can add this as a topping to the noodle dish. The second thing that caught my attention, was the labor of love going in to each order of fresh pulled noodles. You can watch him stretch the dough ball and slap it on the counter before he boils each batch with careful preparation. The third thing that caught my attention, was their adorable mother, helping to slice the cucumbers and top each dish with crushed iso peanuts. Do not forget to order the side of pickled bittermelon....so good!! From beginning to end, this was an incredible experience of all my senses! To see and hear them at work and then to taste the delicious sesame sauce on the fresh pulled noodles....WOW! The soft noodles, the crisp bittermelon, and the savory sauce....super delish! Seriously, go early to place your order. The wait is totally worth it :) Will come back next time to try other menu items.

When we went, the menu focused on udon: +Hot Yamakake Udon with Quail Egg (a special) +Cold Yamakake Udon (a special) +Hot Udon +Cold Udon The special udon dishes are servied with tororo (grated mountain yam), housemade tsukudani (seaweed braised in a sweet Japanese sauce), crispy nori, green onions, and an option to add wasabi. We went for both the hot and cold udon specials - I think it was a consensus that we would have liked to have more noodles in the dish. This is definitely a sweeter dish, with the tororo and the tsukudani. The place already had a long line, and the best way to enjoy would be to dine-in. Note that if you do order a carry-out, the quail egg would not be included. +ordering online is available +changing menu of noodle dishes +popup at Fishcake

Young server quickly greeted us and let us sit anywhere. He asked if we've been here before and quickly ran down some specials. I love it when they ask "been here before?" I was set on Black garlic Tonkotsu. Served with thin ramen noods. I love thin noodles and they're not yellow. No need to dye the noodles. I like them as is. Rich broth and crunchy garlic. Their special is carmelized kimchee gyoza and Gochuchang, spicy ramen. Kimchee gyoza wasn't too spicy but spicy ramen is spicy as it should be. Best of all, music playlists were from 90s. Love it even more! My Era! Anyways, comfortable, cute, easy ramen joint in Kaimuki with excellent service. You can park in Kaimuki municipal parking lot.

The flavor of my creamy garlic shoyu ramen was fine. Nothing special, but good enough. However, it was cold (not room-temperature. Cold!) and there was very little of it. "Lazy tax" aside, I could've had a much tastier and more satisfying meal for way less if I had just added some veggies and (very) little meat to a pot of Sapporo noodles prepared at home. I understand times are hard, especially for small businesses, in this economy but pouring more broth would've made a big difference. Even if I had to po it in the microwave myself.

I really liked the variety and being able to order sides or small dishes. The mung bean soup is delicious and served chilled. They do give free refills. This was my first time trying it, and 10/10 would order again. Mini hot and sour wonton: first time trying and won't be my last. 10/10 Beef pancakes were good, slightly different from Mian and Bao, and delicious. Ice Jelly: good cooling dessert. Not too sweet. Perfect finisher for all the spicy food. Pickled sides: I really loved the spicy back fungus.
