We had a large group in a private room last night. The service was superb and the food was fabulous. Loved the salmon with the golden raisins as well as the cauliflower spinach risotto. Thanks for everything! read more

Tried it our for Restaurant Week in Denver. Service was okay (lost our server halfway through the meal but other staff randomly appeared to keep food moving along). Kind of got the impression maybe they didn't care for us 'budget' diners. Funny part is the four of us are known to drop hundreds each on a meal... it just happened we picked this place as part of the promotion... So it goes.. Food was fine. Nothing too inspired but nothing to complain about. I'd say it was 'okay'. (If paying full fare I'd be griping a bit.) The one thing I hope they learn is their chairs are horribly uncomfortable. Maybe if your under 5 feet tall you can comfortably sit in them, but for everyone else it's downright painful. I guess they subscribe to the 'turn and burn' philosophy of restaurant monetization. Again, however, at those regular prices I'd like to sit and enjoy my meal - not feel like I want to eat and run. Can't say I'll return unless for maybe a quick lunch... read more

We arrived on time & were told there would be a 10 min. wait. As in Alena H's review 2/23/10 we were also told to wait in the packed bar. Again, 2 drinks, $20. We waited 40 mins. and our table was still not ready. Checked 2X w/host but told "check back" or "we'll let you know" It was obvious that the restaurant had overbooked tables. The noise level made it impossible to have a conversation. We will not go to this restaurant again. read more

Ok. In the lobby of our hotel. Great happy hour value after 2.30pm. There are $4,$5 &$6 options. The value was ridiculous. The food was all good, nothing was "the best I have ever had" kind of stuff. But, really good if not the best value in the city. The wine list on the other hand has no value on it whatsoever. You have to put some nuggets on there that show value or perceived value to people who know and are willing to spend on it. read more

This review should have been posted a long time ago but here goes. My wife and I were supposed to be married in Estes Park, CO on September 14, 2013. Of course, if you were watching the news there was a terrible flood that "long story short" ruined any chance of a wedding for us and caused us to be stranded in Estes for several days without any communication. We were able to make it out after an impromptu ceremony and stayed in downtown Denver. Needless to say, this was only the beginning of our wedding saga (hint: we had another wedding....and another disaster). My beautiful wife gives the full version in her blog here: http://crhughesstory.blogspot.com/?m=1 We were recommended this place by the hotel bartender. I have never been treated quite like we were treated at Panzano. While we are from small town Texas and are in no way world travelers, we have had the opportunity to eat at many nice places. Given our situation, our plan was to treat ourselves to a very nice dinner and spare no expense. And, we did just that. We ordered nice wine, appetizers, several main courses, and some sort of dessert. The food was the best I've ever had! Our waiter was fantastic and we told him what we had been through in the past few days. Without drawing attention to what he was doing or making a scene, he proceeded to bring us the bill. Inside, was the tab for approximately $300.00 with a simple note that said some thing along the lines of "tonight is on the house...have a good honeymoon!." No charge. Certainly, any couple would be gracious for such a gesture. However, after my wife had spent 6 months planning a wedding that washed away in a flood, I assure you this was a truly kind act that will be appreciated forever. I can't say enough about this place, but would/will recommend it to anyone going to Denver or close by. ---Chris & Raechell Hughes...Nacogdoches, Texas read more

After reviewing the DRW menus when they came out it was refreshing to see a menu that highlighted it's cuisine with something other than; filet, chicken or salmon. Upon arrival we were greeted with smiles and led to the chefs counter 'as requested' when I made the reservations. We were greeted by the chef staff and Liam shared his suggestions for the meal with some of his favorites. We shared the Ostriche Fritte and Zeppole for our first course and the flavors are still making repeat visits as I write this. The oysters had a wonderful crunch on the outside with a smoky & spicy aioli and the foie for the Zeppole was so silky smooth it melted in your mouth. The Caesar Griglia is a unique twist on a ceasar salad with grilled romaine lettuce that again played on the smoky flavors of our previous dish and fresh aged parmesan that mellowed it out. The star of the night was the Costola Brasati - braised short ribs served over a bed of creamy polenta. The meat was fall of the bone cut it with a fork tender and the flavor profile with the gravy was divine. We also had the spicy meatballs that packed so much punch with a cinnamon custard and ragu' it was hard to not pick up the mini dutch oven a lick it clean. Now recently I've become a fan of gelato and the salted caramel is by far one of my favorites...so, what a delight it was to see Caramel and Butterscotch Budino for dessert. If it weren't for my growing waistline I'd probably come back just for this alone...of course served in a vat if possible. The Tiramisu did not disappoint either. I am a fan of Panzano and Elise Wiggins and it's understandable on why she has been voted into the Running For Best Chef of Denver by the public. http://readerschoice.westword.com/ If you can get at the chef's counter...do it! read more

Well, there are bartenders and then there are bartenders... Panzano's Chad Nix is neither--he is a mixologist's mixologist (holds a Ph.D. in Spirits)... We visited Denver for my birthday and stayed at the Renaissance Hotel in downtown Denver. Our first night there we just wanted to go and get something quick. Fortunately Panzano's was just across the street from the hotel. We walked in at 6:30 pm on a Thursday night without any reservations and was quickly seated at a booth. The restaurant was lively with people coming in after work but the noise level was low enough that you could still carry on a nice conversation. The ambiance was upbeat, the place was nicely lit and comfortable. We were promptly served some water and our waiter arrived minutes later. Our waiter, Jose, was very upbeat and recommended the perfect glass of wine suited to what I described I wanted. I went with the Tiefenbruner chardonnay and it was lovely -- just like I described to Jose. We asked him what was good and what he recommended. He recommended the lasagna and the new york steak. But we wanted to step out of our comfort zone and try something new. He came back with a basket of the most wonderful breads and the most amazing tapenade! It was the best tapenade I've ever tasted. I mean I can eat just that and the bread and I'll be a happy camper. I told Jose that I was torn between getting the Grilled Ceasar and the Grilled Brussel sprouts but decided on getting the Grilled Caesar salad which a lot of yelpers have recommended. They were right! It was a different take on the regular caesar salad. The lettuce was still crisp with a slight smoky flavor and toasted edges. The dressing tasted like it was homemade - with a hint of anchovies and definitely rich with the egg added to it. Jose then surprised us and brought us a couple of dishes of the grilled brussels sprouts - one without the pistachios (i'm allergic) to try out! It was a nice surprises indeed! The Brussel Sprouts were even better than the Grilled Caesar salad! The outer leaves were crispy, the smoky flavor complemented the bitterness and the sour green apple with the sweet dressing made an explosion of flavor in your mouth! I highly recommend the Grilled Brussel sprouts!! Hubby ordered the Pastiche which is a layer of meatballs, cheese tortellinis, with a ragu sauce and a thyme crust! The meatballs are insanely good! The tortellinis were definitely homemade and the sauce was perfectly seasoned! Unfortunately I was so full from the bread, the caesar, and the brussels sprouts that I couldn't eat another bite. Jose was very attentive and came back to check on us often all the while chatting with us about our stay in Denver and recommended a few places to visit while we're there. As we were dining, we noticed the place humming with activity. The place looks like it is running quite efficiently and we never had to wait very long to get our order. The managers in the place are also on point and would pick up where the waiter's left off so no one is left waiting for anything. The water glasses are never left empty. I was promptly asked if I wanted another glass of wine when my glass was half empty. The dining experience we had at Panzano's was excellent! The service was top notch, the food was excellent, the wine was fabulous and was very reasonable. Kudos to the managers and the chef and especially to our waiter, Jose, for making our dining experience at Panzano's very special! We highly recommend Panzano's to anyone who is looking for a place to dine in Downtown Denver. read more

Loved the pasta here, it was just perfect. The little crabmeat taster was so adorable and delicious. I very much enjoyed celebrating my boyfriend's birthday here. The food was great, his veal ragu (I believe) was to die for. We were so full after that! The tiramisu is something you have to try, even if it means you'll have to be rolled back to your hotel. This place is a gem, and definitely worth a visit! read more

Awesome service incredible food! Definitely worth it I would say! Drinks were great amazing restaurant!

A large group of friends came to Panzano last weekend 9/3 during happy hour to celebrate a birthday. There were about 14 of us. We had scoped out the happy hour menu and food at happy hour twice before deciding this would be the perfect place for such an important occasion. As per our earlier visits, the food was divine and the service was attentive. We are a close group and as large as we were I dare say voices and fun carried in the bar. At one point the table closest to us complained and we were nicely asked by staff to keep it down. We heard their message and complied as best we could. Unfortunately later we were "cut off". This became apparent when one in our party ordered his 4th beer (no other drinks) and he was denied. Another in our party had only had 1 drink. There were others who did have more drinks yet we were well behaved and certainly not driving. I asked whether this cut off applied to all and was told yes. The evening and special occasion at Panzano ended not as we would have liked but we quietly took care of our bill and left as they intended us to do. We have celebrated every member's birthday in our group at various restaurants throughout the metro area and this is the 1st time we have ever been asked to leave. It was disappointing to say the least. We went across the street to the Renaissance hotel and the Range restaurant and they made up for our experience and then some. We were allowed to take pictures in the bank vault and they treated our birthday girl to an amazing bread pudding with candle on the house along with serving us drinks that we ordered. So, all in all, our evening was fantastic. Perhaps larger groups may want to keep in mind that Panzano may not be their best choice. read more

Panzano - Amazing service by Dimetri and epic food! If you are looking for an awesome date night experience you have to come here! - Italian Near Me - Denver, Colorado

Thoroughly enjoyed my happy hour snack and reasonably priced. The tortellini were 3 fat tortellini stuffed with warm, creamy cheese in a rich bolonaise sauce. More filling than I expected. The personal size pizza had a delightfully crispy crust. The olive plate was my excuse for veggies! I really like the small green ones that were a little crispy. With a big glass of water the total was $22. It made a very relaxing meal. read more

I love Italian food and this place does not disappoint! The brussell sprouts are out of this world.

c'mon people, this is not true Italian food. The food was beautiful and impressive looking, but none of it had the taste and the palate of real Italian. In Italy the food is great for several reasons... good cooks who know how to make Italian food, fresh ingredients and fresh FRESH produce. That combination is not at Panzano. Go for 'Americanized' Italian food... Olive Garden meets Italian food. Too much processed ingredients, line cooks who cook per 'recipe' and 'meh' food. read more

Impeccable service, accommodating and engaged. Our server was Laurie, who understood the food and wines down to the finest detail. Plus, she was a hoot. We celebrated my folks anniversary, and they loved it. The Brussels sprouts were good, the calamari even better. But the real stars were the grilled Caesar, lamb ragout, the scallop entree, and the butterscotch pudding. Excellent time! read more

Popped in across from Renaissance hotel... this is gonna sound dumb, but I'm giving this place 5 stars for the best Caesar salad I've ever had. Smokey char from the wood oven. How they got that flavor w/out wilting, I'd love to know. It was that good. I was traveling solo so the waiter offered me an option for half--don't do it. Order the big one. read more

Not gonna lie - we were pretty disappointed based upon the reviews of this restaurant. Coming in, atmosphere has a lot to be desired. We were prepared for this and would have looked past this if food made up for the lack of atmosphere, but unfortunately the food did not. Starter of bruschetta was lacking flavor. Carpaccio was cut way too thick and had a strange texture. Entree of shorts ribs was CHEWY. This should never have been served, especially for the price. Pesto pasta was pretty good but overly al dente. Only highlight was the tortellini bolognese. Luckily we had a second reservation at Tavernetta which was fantastic. Sad to have spent $250 though first. read more

Wow, all the reviews were spot on, the food and vibe are great, and the staff is perfect, Laurie my server was among the best I've ever seen, and also impressive that all the staff are attentive, personable and cover for each other, you never feel unattended, and the staff knowledge of menu and drink is top shelf. Okay, I have not been offered any money by Panzano's, but I'm beginning to believe I should be. I have told everyone I know about this happy hour. I first visited Panzano years ago for 5280 week and had an enjoyable experience and looked forward to going back. For whatever reason I stayed away. However, an article in the Wall St. Journal caught my eye, and it briefly mentioned Panzano's Happy Hour. After viewing their menu, I immediately decided I would be back for at least one hour of happy. Two weeks ago I went, and I was happy. So happy that I returned this past week, and we'll return next week (Wednesday, look for me). I must agree with Rachel G on the "ridiculous steal." $3 beers, $3 appetizers, and $4 small plates. I had a beer, very tasty calamari, not too tough, a delicious small plate of steak, mashed potatoes and a spinach/arugula blend all for $10. B!#ch please! The sad fact is that this is the cost of a Qdoba burrito and a drink. The quality levels aren't even close. This filled me up, not fat-style but European-style (meaning I didn't want to puke after I finished). I highly recommend their happy hour. The odds of you being disappointed are slim. If you are disappointed, you're probably difficult to please. read more

Business took me to Denver, but in the future, Panzano's might be part of the reason why I might return for pleasure. Finding gluten-free menus is never easy, but Panzano's has an inspired and delicious group of selections that led me to dining here on consecutive nights. The first night involved a delicious veal good enough to overlook a merely solid salad a bit drowned in its dressing; the wine suggestion was outstanding, however, and that was enough for me to overlook the more serious horror of a soggy, overly gelatinous creme brulee. But as I said, the menu had grabbed me, and the next night I tucked into a divine scallops dish which, accompanied by their own fresh-baked GF bread, was absolutely delightful. Add in an attentive waitstaff that proved helpful in answering my questions about the local morning television personalities (because you never know when you'll draw a joker), plus a neighboring full-service bar, a solid wine list (by the bottle and by the glass), and what seems like an excellent location in the city, and I can't say enough generally good things about the place. I found it telling that the limo driver recommended the place on his short list of Denver musts; despite one disappointing post-rush creme brulee, he proved quite right. read more

Went here for the first time before a show at the Ellie. I'm a bit wary of giving a 5-star review after only one visit to a place (actually 4.5 is probably a bit more accurate here), but I was quite impressed and expect that future visits will bear that out. Service was impeccable. Wife and I don't drink, which usually gets us pretty well ignored at most establishments like this. At Panzano, this didn't happen. In fact, our water level never fell an inch below the rim before someone was there to get it back to the top. Pacing of the service was absolutely perfect, not rushed but also extremely timely. Honestly the best all around service I've experienced in a while. The restaurant is very pleasant and cozy. We were right in the huge front windows. The only awkwardness was a somewhat narrow path through there. It was nice to look out and see the city go by, and to look in at the inviting comfortable interior. The noise level was quite acceptable, and it was very easy to hold a conversation without yelling at each other. Then to the most important part, the food. Wife is vegetarian so we appreciated that they had some innovative and appealing vegetarian dishes on the menu. Decided to split the mushroom crepes with fonduta sauce appetizer, mentioned in other reviews here. If you like mushrooms, this is a must-get! It was pretty awesome. We also split a salad, and the waitstaff was kind enough to bring it out on two half-sized plates rather than making us transport the lettuce across the table. For entrees, the wife got the eggplant, which was a reimagined version of eggplant parmesean, with goat cheese and some other little twists that made for a lighter and delicious entree than the full-on original (full disclosure - I'm a total sucker for goat cheese). I got the Pollo val D'Aosta, which was lightly breaded chicken with prosciutto and fontina cheese over mashed potatoes and spinach. It was very nice, tasty, and filling. Although it was what I was in the mood for that night, I'm guessing that there are some other entrees there that I would find more spectacular, but it was certainly solid. Unfortunately, didn't have time (or room) for dessert this time even though there were appealing-sounding offerings and I would trust them to do well on them. I guess we'll just have to go back and see about that... read more

While recently attending a conference in Denver, I most thoroughly enjoyed three meals at the fabulous Panzano! These were the three most incredible meals I have ever eaten! The scallop dish in particular just blew my taste buds away with the most incredible flavor and texture. Pasta and breakfast were also absolutely wonderful! I highly recommend taking a seat at the kitchen counter because it is enjoyably entertaining overseeing the chefs prepare non-stop meals. I was totally mesmerized by the speed and expertise in which they worked and how perfectly each dish was presented. The kitchen counter was probably my most favorite dining experience in my life, and admittedly, I am a world traveler and foodie! The Executive Chef Elise Wiggins is very funny and extremely friendly, loved her!!! The Assistant General Manager Dan Allen was super exceptional and my waiters Carlos, Ron and Michael could not have been any more amazing and extremely attentive to my every need. I absolutely LOVE PANZANO and I can't wait to go back to Denver to stay at the Monaco Hotel and treat myself to Panzano's again!!! read more

The restaurant is a cool building, decor is neat. We tried a couple of cocktails, an Old Fashioned with Maker's and a Belvedere martini, and they were made well. I ordered the pastiche (meatballs and cheese tortellini baked with ragú) and it was fantastic. Our server recommended this dish based on it's popularity with other patrons and we're glad we tried it. My wife ordered a grouper special with pumpkin gnocci, wasn't a fan of the combination of flavors but her grouper was prepared well. I hear they do a happy hour, would definitely return. read more

In my opinion, food is mediocre at best and way too pricey. We had a lobster pasta dish for $48! Bone in NY strip also $48. But both dishes were just ok. I don't mind paying a little extra for great food but the price has to justify the taste, creativity of the chef, flavors etc. None of the dishes wowed me. This is good Italian for those who have never been to Italy or even eaten in NY. Better Italian options in Denver/Boulder area in my opinion are Fresca (hands down the best restaurant in Denver/Boulder), Luca and DeFranco. read more

So I'm traveling for business...AGAIN.....and decided to take the easy way out and head for the restaurant in my hotel. I wasn't really in the mood for italian, but I don't know Denver well, it's late and i'm hungry. I would much rather have sushi, but tough toenails on me. Anyway, I bring my laptop down to Panzano, take a gander and the wine list and order a glass. The menu looks good, but I'm kind of in the mood to eat light and there's not much to choose from so I opt for protein in the form of veal scallopini sans the mashed potatoes. They were accomodating and grilled some nice veggies for me instead. So while I'm waiting for my dinner, I sit here working amidst all of the other people having fun (I miss my BF right now!!!!!) and they bring me bread with some sort of tapanade. The bread is STALE. Not a little bit stale. I mean I bet it would break into little pieces if I dropped it on a concrete floor!! Not a good sign. I'm now feeling bummed about not searching out a sushi joint. But when my food came it was really, really good. They veal was super tender, the veggies they replaced the mashed potatoes with were asparagus, grilled roma tomoatoes, sliced sun dried tomatoes and eggplant all in a nice tomatoe based, very light sauce. It was the light dinner I was looking for. Go figure. The server was nice, but a little bit on the nonchalant side, but whatever. I probably look disinterested too with my face in my laptop. I'm guessing that they don't get many people sitting here working....lucky me. read more

We visited today for Happy Hour after marveling over the delicious menu and affordable prices. Firstly I will say, Panzano's food was incredible. That was pretty much it. I'm not sure who our server was considering he never said his name, but the terrible service started when my boyfriend tried to order a drink and had his temp document and a photo I.D. which was apparently still not enough documentation to order a cocktail according to our server. Strange considering before my boyfriend went to get his picture ID from the car, the waiter said a credit card with his name on it would be sufficient. He explained the manager said "no" and didn't offer much else of an explanation or offer to let us speak to the manager. This whole incident must have made him nervous or flustered because immediately after we tried to explain that my boyfriend's photo ID was issued by the state of colorado and that legally this was enough document to prove he was of age (he's 30) our server just walked away. Literally, in the middle of my sentence he just walked off. I had to borderline yell that we were ready to order food. My boyfriend ordered calamari and the veal. I ordered the ravioli and the lamb pizza, and my girlfriend ordered the calamari and the prosciutto pizza. My girlfriend's calamari and the ravioli come out first with...a scallop dish. He screwed up the order. We had to reiterate what each of us ordered for him to correct the mistake. Ridiculous. When all the food does come out (the veal finally came out as my girlfriend and I were pretty much through eating) they offer to comp the veal and the scallop (duh, we didn't even order that!). He watched over us behind our booth after he delivered the check and was very obviously trying to see how much we left him. I wasn't ashamed. Our bill came out to 45.00 and I left him 5. I am a waitress myself and usually tip above and beyond 20%. Not this time. Had he just allowed my boyfriend to order the 6$ cocktail he planned to, and maybe a few more even, he probably wouldn't have been so nervous and messed up the order. He would have received a bigger tip and saved himself the trouble of comping 14$ worth of food. Sorry Panzano, we won't be back. read more

Panzano... The absolute WORST restaurant I've ever been to. First, we get there and nothing was too bad. But I did start to notice a strange man standing behind the bar was staring at my family in a creepy manner. I didn't think much of it, but he wouldn't go away. He wasn't even doing anything, and his partner was doing everything for him. He stood statue still, watching us with blank eyes. It made us heavily uncomfortable. So here's another thing of many; the service. We were well out of the aisle, but the same waiter who was staring at us, finally moved. As soon as he came over, he bumped into every single one of us. Over. And over. And over. He didn't even apologize once. Not to mention our food seemed to take longer to get to our table. Not because we're not used to long waits, but because everything we ordered was given to the waiter who was staring. He looked a the person, nodded, looked at the plates, then us, and walked away. Then twenty minutes later he came back to deliver the now cold food. We kindly asked for them to be warmed, in which he ignored every one of us and walked away. This continued throughout the night, the bumping into us and ignoring us, until we finally just left. This was supposed to be a celebration for my family, and all it was? A disappointment. read more

We have a reliably good experience each time we eat here. Happy hour specials are especially good. The pastiche is heavy but heavenly. Mushroom crepes are nice. Great Italian. Great service. Love Lance at the bar. Panzano has the best Happy Hour in Denver!

Panzano is my new fave happy hour in town! I've been for both dinner and happy hour...the food is phenomenal, no doubt, but if I can get the same food at hh for 1/4 of the price of dinner, why wouldn't I? Like everyone says, the brussels sprouts are amazing. I don't care if you've never been a fan, you'll change your mind once you've tried these flash-fried,crispy treats topped with pistachios, pear slivers and an apple vinegar reduction. I would never think that lamb meatballs would go well with a mint pesto, but dang they were perfect in texture and went well with the marinara and goat cheese. The house-made bread it came with was just as delish. The Bavettine with dried cran, pine nuts, goat cheese and a lemon sauce was light and tasty, but could use just a little more salt (or other seasonings to make it less bland). I thought the Carbonara flatbread would be more exciting than it ended up being, but it was still good nonetheless. My fave dish, by far (and only so far, since I haven't tried absolutely everything yet), is the gnocchi with rabbit confit, mushrooms, tomatoes, leeks and gorgonzola - omg, I was so full by the time I tried this the first time around, but I couldn't help but give myself a stomach ache, I just *had* to keep eating it. The flavors blended awesome with the generous amount of perfectly cooked rabbit. It's hard to not get it, since there are so many more dishes to try, like the pappardelle bolognese, veal scallopini, asparagus risotto, eggplant parm and pastiche... will I ever get to the desserts?? Btw, last time I was there for hh, I didn't have a drink (which are definitely reasonable, price-wise) and left full from two dishes for $12 including tip. Worth it. read more

We visited Panzano in July. The meal from drinks to dessert was truly outstanding. I love the true essence of home cooked Italian food that resonates in every plate. Flavors were rich and sumptuous. I don't know how the chef creates such delicious satisfying dishes without the heaviness Italian food usually has. Sitting at the chef's counter is awesome watching the care each plate is given. Can't wait to go back and do it all over again. read more
