I really wanted to like this place because it is right around the corner from my house and I was hoping to have a good Italian restaurant in the neighborhood. However, I have dined here 5 times over the last 12 months and each time I have experienced 1) servers that neglect the solo diner and 2) lazy bartenders. All five times I have gone here, to both eat and drink, I have been sat at the bar. I normally enjoy the experience of sitting at a restaurant's bar, however the experiences at Spuntino have been unpleasant. 1) When you sit at the bar, they have a server attend to you instead of the bartender standing right in front of you. This would be fine except the server still has a full section in another portion of the restaurant and they tend to forget about their customers sitting at the bar. All five times I've ate here I've constantly had to flag down my server to order, get the check, have my drink that's sitting at the bar handed to me, order another round, etc., which greatly takes away from the dining experience. This leads into the lazy bartenders issue. 2) Despite sitting in front of the bartender as they make your drink, they refuse hand you your drink once it's made and instead will walk a longer distance to place your drink on the service well where it sits until your server comes to deliver it, which in most cases has taken 5-10 minutes. So you're sitting there staring at your drink watering down because the bartenders are too lazy to just hand it to you even though the drink ticket shows that the drink is for a customer sitting at the bar. There have been a handful of occasions where I've had to flag down another staff member to ask them to deliver my drink because my server hasn't come behind the bar and the bartenders will completely ignore you when you try to get their attention. I experienced these problems the first time I dined at Spuntino, and I've tried several times again hoping the experience would be different, but each time it has been the same which has been extremely disappointing and ultimately deterred me from wanting to dine and spend my money here. read more

It's been 4 months since my previous visit. I went on a Wednesday night for a wine tasting at the bar, but the rest of the restaurant was full at 7pm. Their menu had some minor changes with no price increases. I checked a photo early in the year and most prices have increased by $1-$2. So small price increases are not hurting. This wine tasting offered 4 Brunello di Montalcino wines by the Podere Le Ripi, a long-time winemaker in Central Italy. Brunello is a lighter bodied wine similar to Barbaresco. I got their Burrata with DiStefano mozzarella with Rebel Farms greens, peaches, prosciutto de parma and house made bread. Next was a large bowl of Cappellini Aglio e Olio which is tossed in garlic achaar, a soft boiled (63 degree) egg and garlic breadcrumbs. I was served by Janine C, a long-time employee. I was not going to have dessert, but Janine said a new dessert was available. So I got the Olive Oil Carrot Cake with Chai cream frosting. I asked Janine which Amaro would pair best. Have wanted to try Spuntino for a while. Went for a birthday dinner celebration. We were a party of four with various food allergies, and despite the family-style nature of the offerings, Spuntino was able to accommodate our needs, and we had a great meal. We were seated at the front by the window, which was nice. It did get a little hot in the restaurant as more people arrived, since it has been unusually warm in Denver this season. We split six plates and were stuffed by the time the celebratory dessert arrived. We started with the burrata, which paired well with apple butter and pickled apples. The arancini was a fusion of Indian spiced cauliflower with mint-cilantro yogurt raita. My favorite of the Spuntini dishes was the Granchio--jumbo lump crab served over a crispy potato cake with butternut squash and a perfect 63 ° egg. We split two Primi dishes: their special of the day pasta, and the Cappellini Aglio e Olio. The Cappellini was amazing--a perfect blend of Indian spices, breadcrumbs, and another 63 ° egg. Yum. If you love scallops, the Capesante dish is not to be missed. These were some of the sweetest, perfectly prepared scallops I have had. read more

I've been to Spuntino several times now and have never once been disappointed. We typically get the burrata or focaccia, and last night we had both! Of course, the bread was salty and fresh and the cheeses were spectacular. Their focaccia is my favorite - the olive oil and garlic cloves are a perfect dining experience. Their pasta of the day was my favorite - carbonara! Their pasta is cooked beautifully as usual, and everyone's dish was better than expected. The cocktails were strong but flavorful. I got a sour and was pleasantly surprised. It was very summery and refreshing but packed a punch. We ended the night with the crème brûlée, which was AMAZING! A great size for the price. We also had affogatos, which were with their chocolate salted caramel gelato. I think this flavor may be limited and I cannot recommend it enough. Spuntino is working on its 15th year, but it is a bit out of the way for me and I had not been back for a long time. My friend had never been, so we decided it was time to give it a try. Note that although Spuntino was originally developed by noted chef John Broening as an Italian Restaurant, the current chef/owner (since September 2014), Cindhura Reddy, is of Indian descent and has gradually added more Indian flavors to the offerings. You might consider this Italian-Indian fusion. Only in America! The space seems very narrow with a large bar on the right and a line of tables along a banquette on the left. There's a more expansive room way in the back plus a steep staircase leading to the basement restrooms--not handicap accessible. The design is rustic and comfortable, but it's starting to look a little dated to me. A bit of a refresh might be in order. The Lower Highlands neighborhood is extremely crowded and parking is a huge problem. The restaurant has its own parking lot with about a dozen spaces. I was lucky enough to snag the last one at 5:15 p.m. on a Saturday. Our server, Lindsey, was patient, knowledgeable, charming, and extremely efficient. Everything was perfectly timed, glasses were always full, and plates were cleared immediately. She was really terrific. I'm a huge arancini fan and almost always order it when I have the option. This version was one of the best. Confit artichokes were new to me, but the combination with mascarpone, pine nuts, and Pecorino really hit the spot with the flavorful and slightly spicy marinara. Alas, no photo. The dish was so appealing that we gobbled it up before I could grab my phone. There's a fairly extensive and eclectic but well-chosen wine list with impressive by-the-glass offerings. I chose a very enjoyable Barolo. The cocktail list is also interesting. My friend had his usual Negroni and pronounced it very well-executed. I then had the Agnello, braised lamb osso bucco with saffron basmati rice, broccolini, cilantro, and red onion. The lamb was extraordinarily tender with a wonderful, rich sauce. The South Indian flavors were a perfect combination. The portion was huge, even considering the large bones. I had a heavy box of yummy leftovers. My friend went for the Pesce, Colorado striped bass with m'hamsa couscous (a traditional Berber version from Tunisia), romesco sauce, spring onions, and toasted almonds. He enjoyed it and thought the flavors were great. We had a very pleasant evening and we're still talking about it several days later. I've waited for years to come to Spuntino and finally came with friends for a birthday. Came on the weekday with a reservation and it seemed not super busy but lots of couples. Slightly dirty martini was delicious, cripsy and tasty. I was happy from the get go. We tried the Salumi e Formaggi which was great. So many options with cheese, meats, all were good and the portion size for four was great. The burata was amazing and the pesto on the size I'd buy from Spuntino... so amazing. Opted for the Fazzoletti which was good. Honestly couldn't really see a lot of meat but the pasta/ sauce made up for it. The portion size was on the smaller size but great with room for desert. I'm not sure why it has taken a month to write this review because we had a wonderful dinner with the best service. In this quaint neighborhood eatery. All the food was delicious and very well priced. We started with the antipasto that had a small issue when we brought it to the attention of the restaurant it was immediately corrected and taken off the bill which was not even necessary but it showed how important guest satisfaction is to them. We also had the arancini as a starter agin delicious. We had a second course of Fazzoletti. Our mains consisted of Granchio and Raviolini both Italian pasta masterpieces. Wow! How did I just find this gem? The happy hour menu was good from meatballs to a sandwich but the sweet potato gnocchi from the main was out of this world. My husband all but licked the plate clean. The other standout was the bread and cocktails. They do have an extensive wine list but I wasn't feeling a glass of wine so I opted for a cocktail. How embarrassing. My last review of Spuntino was over 13 years ago. Talk about being a failure of a Yelp contributor. I think I must have been there half dozen times since and have not updated my ancient review on any of those occasions. Bad me. So here's the low down...Spuntino (still)rocks. Went in with friends for a light late bite after doing some drinking and tapas-ing at the semi-new Populus rooftop bar, so kept it simple. Split a salad and an entree (lamb ragu pasta which was delicious) with my honey and tried out a Monday night 25%-off deal on an excellent bottle of Barolo. Had a bite of a friend's granchio and it was incredibly wonderful. Filled with what tasted like fresh blue crab on a perfect potato cake with fresh greens it was truly a special treat. Get it when you go. Finished up with their spectacular esspresso dark chocolate torte and it couldn't have been better. That was all the more true because BB was our server and he was funny and offered perfect service. We closed the place down at around 10:30 pm but they were really nice and didn't rush us at all. Came here for friends last night & was thoroughly impressed! It had been a few years since I'd paid this place a visit, and I am so happy it's still part of the Denver food scene. I'd call this one an oldie, but goodie, and they keep innovating and doing amazing things to keep the food interesting! We got the arancini & the burrata to start. The burrata was the highlight of my meal. The combination of the pesto & the cured/dried beef on bread/burrata was to die for. This place was such an awesome find! It's in a house so it feels more cozy, which goes well with the dim light. Our server was really kind, even bringing us arancini that was made in excess to commemorate our "girls night" in Denver. The arancini was perfectly crispy on the outside but light and then creamy on the inside with a savory tomato sauce. We also got the focaccia with ricotta and roasted garlic. The combo of the roasted garlic and ricotta with bread was incredible. The tomato appetizer was fresh and tasty, with a base of labneh, layered sliced tomatoes and then topped with basil and balsamic glaze. Excellent. We then tried a few pasta entries -- my favorite being the Indian-Italian fusion of cavapetti noodles with an Indian tomato sauce, cashews and coconut with chicken. They have many veg friendly options, which worked well for my company. We got one option with thick noodles and lemon sauce, which was okay, and then a layered pasta option which was intricate and tasty. The spritz was refreshing to drink. What a phenomenal start to my 2024 food journey. We came here to celebrate my good friends 40th birthday and it was nothing short of amazing. Starting with our waiter, he provided one of the best services I've experienced in a very long time. He was well versed in all the cuisine and drinks. He had solid recommendations and was so pleasant to be around, I wanted to invite him to have a seat at our table. The restaurant is dimmly lit for the perfect romantic setting. Noise level is definitely moderate. We ended up ordering quite a few items. However, the highlights of the meal were the elk tartare, the truffle main course( special of the day) and the Gelato. This is SUCH a delicious restaurant and such a unique concept. The owners are a married couple, with one who has roots in Italy, while the other has roots in India. Therefore, Spuntino is an Italian restaurant with a deliciously Indian twist! The portions here are small, so they are best for sharing family style with your table, so that you can all try and sample more of the menu together! Truly every dish we ordered was so delicious, and we definitely gravitated to the ones that had that Indian twist in them in particular, and it was all done so well and just completely balanced with the Italian of it all as well! My friend, who is Indian American, made the great observation that various different kinds of Indian cuisine and ingredients were used - from both North and South Indian cuisine! We had made a reservation, which is definitely what I would recommend that you do when you come here, especially on weekend evenings. Things were super busy here and when we showed up, the table that was reserved for us still had the previous party there, overstaying their welcome long after they had paid the bill. Because of this, we ended up waiting an additional 20-30 minutes. They took our drink orders as we waited and we sipped on them in the foyer. Finally when they seated us, they sent over a complimentary appetizer and took care of the first round of our drinks as well, which was all very much appreciated and made up for the wait instantly! Drinks were great and so unique as well! They had delightful mocktail options that I sincerely enjoyed! Now let's get onto the star of the show...the food! We started with the focaccia e ricotta, the complimentary appetizer they sent out which was SO divine! The head of roasted garlic was the star of the show here and really made the bread + cheese combo so much more enhanced! Then we also got the arancini, which is such a classic Italian dish and one of my favorites! This was also had a South Indian twist, which meant that in addition to risotto balls, there were South Indian spiced cauliflower, mint-cilantro yogurt raita, and pickled red onion. It all worked together SO beautifully! For our primi, which were pasta dishes, we got both the lasagna as it boasted being 36 layers (!!!) and the malai kofta gnocchi! The lasagna, another classic Italian dish and one of my favorites, was made so well and I can confirm it was actually 36 layers - I counted! The gnocchi was also so delicious and I sincerely loved the Indian twist on this one as well, with toasted cashews, Indian spiced tomato sauce, cilantro and red onion. It made the dense ricotta-potato dumplings feel a lot lighter and just once again complemented the Italian aspects of it so well! For our secondi, we ordered the house special for the night and I'm kicking myself because I don't remember the name of it, but it was so good!! You'll see it in the pictures, it was absolutely divine! Everything we had here was so delicious and I would recommend everyone come here, whether your visiting or just plain live in Denver! Our chef son is very finicky and hates most Italian food, BUT he loved this joint. We came in without reservations and were seated quickly next to the side window. The space is nicely laid out and decor is tasteful and minimal. We ordered the Arancini, Focaccia e Ricotta to start. Both were delicious and packed with flavor. Next was the Capellini Aglio e Olio....amazing! The Mezzalune were delicate and subtlety spicy. The wine and spirits selection are eclectic and vast. Cute spot! We were here for a special occasion and our server was fantastic, treating us to some complementary bubbly and chocolate truffles (the truffles are top 10 things I've ever eaten)! We went with the insalata and Arancini for starters and the capellini and scallops for mains. The insalata was super salty and a disappointment. We loved the Arancini, the cilantro lime crema was so tasty and unique! As for the mains, the capellini was a fun mix of flavors and the scallops were cooked well, but didn't love the sides the scallops came with. Overall everything was tasty and flavorful, but perhaps all a bit salty. The mains were both really rich -- we didn't expect to leave nearly that full. Service was good for the most part, but it did take quite a while to get the scallops. The interior is nicely decorated and has a small, intimate feel. A bit loud. Not sure if it's where we were seated, but we both found the interior to be a bit stuffy and found ourselves feeling a bit stuffed up by mid-way through the meal. This place was delicious and reasonably priced imo! My friend and I ordered two entrees to split, an app, a dessert, and two drinks each, and it was ~$85 w tip. We started with the arancini, which is unlike any other arancini I've had. It want served in a red sauce, but a white sauce, with hatch green chilis inside. I thought it was phenomenal. We also LOVED the ragu pappardelle and were very pleased that it was a permanent fixture on the menu. Very fresh and tasty. The pasta special, which was their twist on a cacio e peppe with shaved truffles, didn't blow us away. I found the sauce a bit lacking and flour-tasting. Probably would try something else instead. But sadly the pasta and the scallops were just not my style at all. The server did a good job of describing them so I wasn't necessarily surprised but man I did NOT like the flavor profile at all. The Capellini Aglio e Olio was basically spaghetti like noodles (homemade!) with olive oil, egg, and Indian spices. And while I love Indian food, I do not want it in my Italian food. I applaud their risks but I really just didn't want that flavor in my Italian food. Call me traditional. To each their own. The Capesante was scallops with "wheat berries" that tasted identical to dense couscous. The scallops were truly cooked to perfection but again, the flavor was just not my style. Too many things going on. The cocktails we got were yummy but filled to half the martini glass. Which was already small. A bit disappointing to be honest. The place is super cute inside. Please note that the bar is not open seating but they do call aheads. There is also only street parking so be prepared. The salad was so small and had a huge amounts of blue cheese-Not very appetizing. We ordered the Capellini Aglio and daily pasta special (a seafood pasta). The capellini we've had in the past was delicious, but this time around it was so spicy, almost inedible. Omg this place. I feel ashamed it took me so long to go. It's super quaint, and the service was great. We started with the focaccia and garlic situation. That was amazing. We also go the alce crudo which was super interesting and tasty! We got a pasta, and now I can't remember which one, but we inhaled it. We also got the salmon, which was the only let down. I knew that the menu had some Indian influence and so I was hoping it would come through in the salmon, but it sadly didn't. It was an ok salmon dish. If I remember correctly the star anise or maybe basil flavor was perfect and was a great twist. The potato cake at the bottom added great texture as it was very crispy. Generous topping of crab for this price was great. You get a nice mix of textures and temperatures with this dish and I HIGHLY RECOMMEND IT! The capellini was another hit. A great twist on aglio e olio. Heavy on the Indian spices and boy that egg was delightful! The pasta del Giorno of the night was a mushroom sauced based sauce with handkerchief shaped pasta. All pasta was handmade and fresh and that sauce was amazing! I had to take it home since the appetizer was pretty filling, but it tasted great the next day! One of the most exciting restaurant I had tried this year. This neighborhood restaurant serves up bold rustic Italian food with Indian flavorings. Memorable was this incredible dinner of: Alce Crudo, Capellini Aglio Olio, Triò Sorbet & Gelatos. This was our second time visiting Spuntino, and I am heartbroken at how bad the food was. It was like a different restaurant from the first time we visited about a year ago. We ordered a host of things: the focaccia with ricotta and garlic ($13), the tomato salad ($14), the elk 'crudo' (it was really tartare style) (~$20), the peach and ricotta agnolotti (~$30) and the aglio e olio (~$32). Right off the bat, the prices seem a little bit outrageous. $13 for a tiny piece of focaccia, spoonful of ricotta and half a head of garlic? $14 for a plate of tomatoes (no lettuce). And over $30 for each pasta entree, neither of which had meat (other than a few small pieces of pancetta on the agnolotti). However, if the dishes had knocked our socks off, we wouldn't have been so dismayed by the prices. Unfortunately, nothing was great, and a few of the things were just BAD. The elk crudo was so not good we could barely finish half of it. It had weird flavor and spices, and typically my husband and I love any carpaccio or tartare. It was just bad. The giant plate of tomatoes was just that - so bizarre it was listed as a salad, again the two of us could barely finish half the plate. It was fine, but $14 for a plate of sliced tomatoes? We were holding out hope that our pastas would save the day. But unfortunately, they were just as bad, if not worse than the rest of the meal. Both dishes came sitting in a puddle of oil. It seemed like it was a mistake. The agnolotti was undercooked and the filling was watery, when you took a bite all of the filling just squirted right out. There were maybe 8 total pieces of agnolotti and this dish was $30. My husband's Aglio e Olio was also not good, he was choking it down. The best part of the meal was probably the focaccia, which still unremarkable, and the bottle of wine our server recommended. We spent $240 including tax and tip which was a hard pill to swallow for a dinner we did not enjoy. So so unfortunate. I'm not sure if management or the chef changed since I went a year ago but I really hope they can improve as it's a neighborhood spot and I'd hate to not have it as an option moving forward. read more

One of our fav restaurants when we want to be a little fancy. So much if the ingredients are homemade from the pasta (of course) to cocktail ingredients. We've been here a few times and always leave with happy bellies. The waitstaff is great as well offering opinions on the menu, and checking in on the tables. I do love their simple decor and how there's always a little creature like plastic rubber duckie in the table flowers. No night is complete without a little dessert! The affogato is very reasonably priced and our recent go to. Limoncello is also a nice sipper to finish dinner. Hopefully we will be back soon! read more
