Cappllini Aglio e Olio - South Indian Garlic achaar, 63° egg, breadcrumbs
Edie A.

Have wanted to try Spuntino for a while. Went for a birthday dinner celebration. We were a party of four with various food allergies, and despite the family-style nature of the offerings, Spuntino was able to accommodate our needs, and we had a great meal. We were seated at the front by the window, which was nice. It did get a little hot in the restaurant as more people arrived, since it has been unusually warm in Denver this season. We split six plates and were stuffed by the time the celebratory dessert arrived. We started with the burrata, which paired well with apple butter and pickled apples. The arancini was a fusion of Indian spiced cauliflower with mint-cilantro yogurt raita. My favorite of the Spuntini dishes was the Granchio--jumbo lump crab served over a crispy potato cake with butternut squash and a perfect 63 ° egg. We split two Primi dishes: their special of the day pasta, and the Cappellini Aglio e Olio. The Cappellini was amazing--a perfect blend of Indian spices, breadcrumbs, and another 63 ° egg. Yum. If you love scallops, the Capesante dish is not to be missed. These were some of the sweetest, perfectly prepared scallops I have had.

Indian-Italian fusion was not on my bingo card this month, but it was amazing! Loved the unique blend of flavors. Great bartender, fun crowd on a weeknight, and cozy bar atmosphere. The meatball was 10/10!!!! Get the meatball.

Spuntino has intriguing combinations of ingredients and flavors that you can't imagine work together, until you taste them and are pleasantly surprised! The menu is so unique it's difficult to know what to order. We tried 3 different entrees and 2 starters and all had great flavor. The lasagna was remarkable with the layers and presentation. If you are a fan of savory desserts, definitely give the olive oil sorbet a try! The service was fantastic and friendly too.

This place is perfect for a date night. Great ambience, food was spectacular and drink menu was . Started off with delicious cocktails, an heirloom tomato salad and the focaccia e ricotta..it was so fluffy and delicious. I've never had anything like it if I'm honest. My husband and I shared the Agnello (lamb) it was very delicious. I wish we were hungry enough to also have ravioli but if I wanna keep my waist line, we can't do that so instead we split some pistachio gelato and an espresso martini and it was the perfect way to finish off the night. service was impeccable. I would definitely come back here again. Wish I lived closer.

I've been to Spuntino several times now and have never once been disappointed. We typically get the burrata or focaccia, and last night we had both! Of course, the bread was salty and fresh and the cheeses were spectacular. Their focaccia is my favorite - the olive oil and garlic cloves are a perfect dining experience. Their pasta of the day was my favorite - carbonara! Their pasta is cooked beautifully as usual, and everyone's dish was better than expected. The cocktails were strong but flavorful. I got a sour and was pleasantly surprised. It was very summery and refreshing but packed a punch. We ended the night with the crème brûlée, which was AMAZING! A great size for the price. We also had affogatos, which were with their chocolate salted caramel gelato. I think this flavor may be limited and I cannot recommend it enough. While I may not live in Denver anymore, I always look fondly to spuntino when I'm in town.

Spuntino is working on its 15th year, but it is a bit out of the way for me and I had not been back for a long time. My friend had never been, so we decided it was time to give it a try. Note that although Spuntino was originally developed by noted chef John Broening as an Italian Restaurant, the current chef/owner (since September 2014), Cindhura Reddy, is of Indian descent and has gradually added more Indian flavors to the offerings. You might consider this Italian-Indian fusion. Only in America! The space seems very narrow with a large bar on the right and a line of tables along a banquette on the left. There's a more expansive room way in the back plus a steep staircase leading to the basement restrooms--not handicap accessible. The design is rustic and comfortable, but it's starting to look a little dated to me. A bit of a refresh might be in order. The Lower Highlands neighborhood is extremely crowded and parking is a huge problem. The restaurant has its own parking lot with about a dozen spaces. I was lucky enough to snag the last one at 5:15 p.m. on a Saturday. Our server, Lindsey, was patient, knowledgeable, charming, and extremely efficient. Everything was perfectly timed, glasses were always full, and plates were cleared immediately. She was really terrific. I'm a huge arancini fan and almost always order it when I have the option. This version was one of the best. Confit artichokes were new to me, but the combination with mascarpone, pine nuts, and Pecorino really hit the spot with the flavorful and slightly spicy marinara. Alas, no photo. The dish was so appealing that we gobbled it up before I could grab my phone. There's a fairly extensive and eclectic but well-chosen wine list with impressive by-the-glass offerings. I chose a very enjoyable Barolo. The cocktail list is also interesting. My friend had his usual Negroni and pronounced it very well-executed. I then had the Agnello, braised lamb osso bucco with saffron basmati rice, broccolini, cilantro, and red onion. The lamb was extraordinarily tender with a wonderful, rich sauce. The South Indian flavors were a perfect combination. The portion was huge, even considering the large bones. I had a heavy box of yummy leftovers. My friend went for the Pesce, Colorado striped bass with m'hamsa couscous (a traditional Berber version from Tunisia), romesco sauce, spring onions, and toasted almonds. He enjoyed it and thought the flavors were great. We had a very pleasant evening and we're still talking about it several days later. Spuntino is a unique experience provided by a very talented and creative chef. It is definitely worth a try.

Excellent food for a group! The special lasagna was amazing. Gnocchetti was amazing. I would highly recommend this place if you're able to go! No complaints from anyone in the group!

I'm not sure why it has taken a month to write this review because we had a wonderful dinner with the best service. In this quaint neighborhood eatery. All the food was delicious and very well priced. We started with the antipasto that had a small issue when we brought it to the attention of the restaurant it was immediately corrected and taken off the bill which was not even necessary but it showed how important guest satisfaction is to them. We also had the arancini as a starter agin delicious. We had a second course of Fazzoletti. Our mains consisted of Granchio and Raviolini both Italian pasta masterpieces. Out tummies where too full for dessert but we did try a complementary limoncello. To sum it all up... great food great service in a lovely neighborhood restaurant

Wow! How did I just find this gem? The happy hour menu was good from meatballs to a sandwich but the sweet potato gnocchi from the main was out of this world. My husband all but licked the plate clean. The other standout was the bread and cocktails. They do have an extensive wine list but I wasn't feeling a glass of wine so I opted for a cocktail. I was informed that the menu does change based on what is in season. I can't wait to go back in a different season and try a few more fish as well as some wine.

What a great experience. I was in town for work and Spuntino came highly recommended and I can see why. I sat at the bar, but that may have been better than a table. When I finished up my phenomenal food I had a next level Amaro tasting and I can't wait to go back for some off of the beaten path options. If you are thinking about stopping in, here is your sign.

Focaccia and ricotta with roasted garlic -- the roasted garlic is a MUST
Caroline Y.

This place was such an awesome find! It's in a house so it feels more cozy, which goes well with the dim light. Our server was really kind, even bringing us arancini that was made in excess to commemorate our "girls night" in Denver. The arancini was perfectly crispy on the outside but light and then creamy on the inside with a savory tomato sauce. We also got the focaccia with ricotta and roasted garlic. The combo of the roasted garlic and ricotta with bread was incredible. The tomato appetizer was fresh and tasty, with a base of labneh, layered sliced tomatoes and then topped with basil and balsamic glaze. Excellent. We then tried a few pasta entries -- my favorite being the Indian-Italian fusion of cavapetti noodles with an Indian tomato sauce, cashews and coconut with chicken. They have many veg friendly options, which worked well for my company. We got one option with thick noodles and lemon sauce, which was okay, and then a layered pasta option which was intricate and tasty. The spritz was refreshing to drink. We finished the night (stuffed to the gills but happy) with the gelato trio -- Thai tea, olive oil and pistachio. My favorite was the Thai tea -- tasted very authentic and was the perfect taste! This is a fantastic authentic Indian-Italian fusion restaurant with yummy homemade pastas, with an option for everyone!

Great place for a date night! Could be difficult for larger groups. Layout is narrow. The bar flows into the kitchen and it is truly amazing how much great and good food comes out of that tiny kitchen. Staff helped us choose a good wine, that complimented our meal.

Truffles dessert

What a phenomenal start to my 2024 food journey. We came here to celebrate my good friends 40th birthday and it was nothing short of amazing. Starting with our waiter, he provided one of the best services I've experienced in a very long time. He was well versed in all the cuisine and drinks. He had solid recommendations and was so pleasant to be around, I wanted to invite him to have a seat at our table. The restaurant is dimmly lit for the perfect romantic setting. Noise level is definitely moderate. We ended up ordering quite a few items. However, the highlights of the meal were the elk tartare, the truffle main course( special of the day) and the Gelato. I think I would pass on the donuts next time though. Otherwise, anything you order here will satisfy your taste buds. Five stars all around.

Shout to the team for having our table ready when we got there even though it was very busy that day. We started off with the Fall Salad and I think it was one of my favorite things we ordered. I had no idea beets can be that delicious! After that, everything else came out: roasted carrots, barramundi, and wagyu flank steak. They also put in an order or pommes frites (French fries) on accident and decided to give it to us on the house. Thanks! The roasted carrots were really good and sweet. You could tell they were quality carrots. The barramundi was another one of my favorites. I'm a fan of fish and they did an excellent job of cooking the barramundi with a great sauce(?) that tasted great with it. I found the wagyu steak flank overcooked and really salty which was disappointing given the price. The pommes frites were cooked well but also extremely salty. Overall, I would recommend Sunday Vinyl if you are trying to take someone to a place that is unique and don't mind paying a bit extra. It is a bit loud in there (we had to raise our voices a bit to hold a conversation) but it is also a vinyl place so you would expect them to show off their music.

Parking in the area is pretty rough, street parking only and there are other businesses sharing the area. We arrived at seven and were told it was around a 45 minute wait. We passed the time by getting a drink at a bar nearby and walked over when it was our turn. It was about 50° outside and they were trying to seat us outside on the patio when we arrived (no heat lamps). So we waited another 15 minutes for an indoor table. Finally, we were sat and starving by this point, so we immediately ordered a pizza and pasta and some wine. The food took forever. Finally, we asked about it and our server told us the pasta would be right out but that generally they tell people to expect a one hour wait on pizzas even after you've sat down and ordered. The pasta was good, I got the seasonal saccotini. I would have loved if it had a protein to make it a little more filling since the dish wasn't very large. We also tried the seasonal pizza. I believe it had butternut squash and beef topping. It was also really good, but still missing something, I think a sauce. Having a little tomato sauce underneath the cheese layer would have really elevated it. Because we couldn't get a reservation for dinner, we targeted an earlier arrival time in order to get a table, which didn't prove to be too much of a problem. The indoor seating area and bar is cozy, and there were a handful of outdoor tables that we made use of in order to enjoy the weather. There was some confusion over the 'order your drink at the bar' protocol, which was intended to apply to the first drink (i guess only for the first of our crew), and I mistakenly went to the counter to place my order given what was relayed. We were visited by a couple of servers thereafter, and placed an order for a sampling of items. We started with the Broccolini (mingle portion), and that was tasty, but also the stems were still quite toothsome, so a bit tough and awkward to chew. We then ordered single sizes of a few pasta dishes to share, including the Bucatini Primavera (adding bacon was recommended), the Pimento Cheese Agnolotti, and the Gyros Cavatelli. My favorite was probably the agnolotti, though the portion size did not go very far. The Gyros Cavatelli, which came with yogurt mixed over everything was a miss for me. I think the flavors were roughly what you would expect, but texturally and visually it was less than ideal. We closed with a Carrot Parsnip Cake, which was one creative play that did pay off. While it wasn't a bad time, there were a few factors that left me unsatisfied. I'm a pasta girl through and through, and nothing here really wow'ed me, or proved to scratch that comfort food itch...at least any better than I could do at home. The other issue for me was the restaurant seemed to be targeting casual vibes, but with a price tag that didn't align. Our dinner, which wasn't particularly filling, cost us about $100/person with a drink or two. Food was served on plastic plates, which is a real turnoff as is, but the plates were also too small, which made it hard to eat or share without knocking things off onto the table. It felt unnecessarily clumsy. To be fair, my dinner partners enjoyed things a bit more than I did, but I wouldn't make a point of returning personally.

For me this place shines first and foremost because the cocktails are not only creative and unique but strong and fulfilling. The Corn Sour cocktail for instance is one of those that I am seeking to recreate at home due to the marvelous aroma of the tortilla from the tortilla salt garnished on top and the excellent application of the elote mezcal. But with regard to the food there are several intricacies of the dishes that signal authenticity and generally make them more memorable. For instance the Burrita de Guisado I thought was most memorable because it reminds me of guisado I've actually had in Mexico. The sea urchin aguachile is unique since I've never seen an uni aguachile before, and it was well executed due to the genius pairing of the mandarin and the erizo, which I learned on that day are flavor buddies... not to mention the extra kick you get from the chile seco oil. We had a lot of dishes here, those two examples were the most memorable but each dish offers something worthwhile. I think the reservations are slightly easier to get here and it also seems easier to just walk in after a short wait, so I'd recommend that anyone that wants to try Alma but needs to wait 6 months for a reservation actually comes here in the meantime because worst case scenario it's at the same level but I personally feel like it's better. Is it a Michelin Star-worthy restaurant though? No, not in my book. It doesn't have a special occasion vibe which is mostly why I think that. Definitely worthy of Michelin Guide (e.g. bib) status though.

Some of these precautions include only 2 people in the shop at a time, use provided hand sanitizer when you enter, and even curbside pick up/delivery. Since I was sitting in front of the store, I figured I'd just go in, get what I needed, and quickly head home. I was greeted and asked to use the hand sanitizer upon entering - yes, thank you. I then explained from a distance that I was looking for a dark beer, preferably a stout. I was escorted to the back of the store and shown the fridge with all the dark beer. WOW! big selection. I had the choice of 6 packs, 4 packs, or mix and match. This was perfect for me because I needed 5 beers. I ended up selecting Jackie O's Java the Stout. When I brought up my 5 pack, the owner told me it was a great beer (one of his favorite dark beers) and that it was a solid choice. He was not wrong. This beer is awesome, and paired so well with my peanut butter cookie pairing. So good. I will definitely be back to Cask and Craft.
