Cute and romantic spot in Highlands! We stopped in for an early Saturday dinner and had a great experience. The regular dinning tables were mostly filled with reservations but they keep bar seating open for walk ins. Plus, you can see them grilling from the bar! We called ahead and they were kind enough to reserve two bar seats while we drove over. From our first encounter with staff we felt very welcomed. It was our first time at Spuntino so we asked about popular dishes and received a lot of helpful information! It seemed like the front of house staff were well connected to the kitchen and truly enjoyed the dishes they were serving. Each time a dish arrived to us, the staff explained everything on the plate. The food was pretty good too. The food menu is not very large. There were ~8 small plates and ~6 entrees to select from but I prefer that over an overwhelming large menu. The food was Italian influenced but not strictly traditional. We split the burrata, cannelloni, pork chop, and cheese cake between 2 people (total ~$90). They timed each dish for us to eat one after the other and even seemed to give us extra large portions since wee were sharing. The bartender joked that our cheesecake slice was the largest they had ever seen! Every dish we tried was tasty. My favorite were the pork chop and cheesecake. The lentils that came with the pork chop were awesome and the cookie base of the cheesecake was really good! I also appreciated that the cheesecake wasn't super sweet! The food is okay. But the place is a bit on the dirty side and if you look up it is rusty and dirty and all it needs is some paint and some cleaning. It's sad when restaurant owners don't take care of the restaurants. I don't foresee it lasting in Denver with so many other good options. My husband and I had a date night here last night and had such a nice time. The small dining room is cozy but still bright and modern and located within walking distance of plenty of highlands bars for a pre dinner drink or night cap. Our server was incredibly helpful and energetic. We shared the ricotta and focaccia plate, the burrata with strawberries and honeycomb, and two pasta dishes. The tagliatelle with pistachio pesto, burrata, and guanciale was delicious but very salty - definitely worth sharing and splitting as the portion was too much flavor for just myself. My husband got the pasta of the day, a cappellini with a fennel cream sauce, bacon, and fig. Our favorite part of the meal was the pistachio gelato for dessert - some of the most authentic pistachio gelato we have had outside of Italy! read more

I can't say enough amazing things about spuntino- in planning a trip to Denver with some girlfriends we were looking for some tasty places to eat. I love Italian food and when i stumbled upon this recommendation in an eater article I was so intrigued by the idea of Italian/Indian fusion. We had some trouble finding a reservation- it's such a small cute place and the hours were only 5-8, and as much as I was not super excited about a 5 pm reservation- I'm so glad we went anyway cause the restaurant was so special! We ordered the amazing focaccia bread with garlic, the arancini which was just flavored so insanely good, and two pastas to share- my fav being the malai kofta gnocchi which was maybe one of the top 3 amazing foods I've ever had in my life. The service was lovely and our waiter told us about the restaurant- its owner and executive chef is a first generation Indian woman and in his 6 years at the restaurant its food has continue to evolve and grow. On our way out I was able to share with her just how lovely our experience dining was and she was so kind!!!! I finally got around to a dinner at Spuntino and honestly I just don't get it. Pasta was terrible, I like al dente, this was truly under cooked. There was very little flavor in the Cacio e Pepe, it was some noodles in gravy, where was the cheese? The focaccia was terrible. The potato in the appetizer was so hard is almost shot across the table when we tried to cut it, it also had no flavor. The place was full and very loud on a Monday night, I really don't understand the appeal. If you want a good meal, head over to Dumplin' just a little way down 32nd. read more

Had the focaccia (dry and definitely not focaccia), granchio which was covered in so much sauce you couldn't taste crab and so salty. Ordered cavatelli and cacio y Pepe. The spot was packed with people but it didn't feel crowded and cramped The wait staff and bar staff were attentive and took our order promptly. They spent time to inform us of the specials and favorites since it was our first time I would dress sort of nicely when coming here since it is a bit more fancy then a casual restaurant. We ordered the burrata salad, the pork chop, and a ragu dish. Each one had very distinct flavors, textures, and experiences that I hadn't tasted before. I really enjoyed the lentils cooked in chicken broth that came with the pork chop. Entrees ranged from $20-35 and starters ranged from $9-20 so it was a bit pricy. Forty thousand yeses. This joint is my new favorite. Firstly, its cute, tiny and local. They have an open kitchen concept like I haven't seen before. It's like, seriously open haha if you dine at the bar, you're feet away from the folks hard at work making your food. Second, everything is handmade. The pasta, the bread, the fried risotto, everything. And it is DELICIOUS. Had focaccia with cheese which was seriously to die for-- the cheese was so incredibly creamy and spreadable and they gave us extra bread so it didn't go to waste! We also had the Elk tartare was quite yummy and then the basil cream pasta of the day which could have used a few less bread crumbs but was just so creamy and rich. Celebrated our 6th anniversary this past weekend. Researched restaurants with outdoor dining and stumbled upon Spuntino and I'm glad we did! We came to Denver to visit some family and our cousin and her husband took us to Spuntino. We sat down pretty quickly since we had a reservation. We ordered a few espresso martinis and a cocktail called The House of Tom Bombadill (great LOTR reference!). The drinks took quite a long time to come out, but we did get burrata and focaccia bread as appetizers. The burrata was excellent and had tons of flavor. The focaccia bread was very good as well. As we finished the appetizers we ordered our entrees (3 pasta del giornos and one raviolini) and some wine for the table. The food came out relatively quickly but again we waited quite a bit for our drinks. The entrees were delicious, with pasta that tasted like it had just been made that morning. Wow what a great place! Our friends recommended this place to us and I am not disappointed. First, service was fantastic and the ambiance is romantic with dim lighting. The cocktails were fantastic, I ordered the bourbonator sr and it was so delicious!! I also ordered the gnocchi and my husband did the pasta special. My fiancé and I came here on a Saturday evening and it was definitely one of our best eats in Denver. The ambiance is lovely for dates or intimate gatherings. It feels like a true neighborhood spot where everyone looks after each other. Throughout the night, each server who stopped by our table asked questions or shared anecdotes and tidbits about the dish/restaurant. Our main server was chill and gave us great advice to go a little lighter on the appetizers considering our entree selection. They update their menu seasonally. When we tried them in late September, they were on their fifth menu of the year. They have a tiny but very powerful open kitchen and a prep kitchen downstairs that isn't in use during service. Now onto the food we ordered: * Salumi e formaggio ($16): The currant jam was excellent, especially as someone who isn't the biggest jam fan. What a nice surprise the soppressata was! * Alce crudo (elk tartare, $18): Served with a loin covering??? The rice noodles were really fun here. My fiancé isn't the biggest fan of tartare in general but he enjoyed how the texture was broken up. * Agnolotti del plin ($27): Hooooly crap I wasn't expecting this to be so good. I normally cut my agnolotti in half to savor each bite slowly, but don't do that for this one!! There's a fun popping sensation when you bite into it and the peach juice oozes out. Who puts peaches in agnolotti and how does it work so well?! Our server talked us through the ideation process for this dish, going harder on the peaches to balance out the meat and sauce's saltiness. Scrumptious. * Maiale ($34): THAT EGG. This dish is back on the menu after about two years, and everyone was excited about it. It's very similar to a Thai noodle salad and the chefs are unapologetic about departing from the Italian concept to execute this one. Definitely eat the meat along with the noodles. * Gelato tasting flight ($7): We got the olive oil, oreo, and black cherry (seasonal) flavors. The olive oil was as expected, fiancé didn't love it but I thought it was fun. Oreo was incredible with perfect texture. Black cherry was our least favorite but I think that's just a difference in flavor preferences, it was a fine sorbet. * Amaro truffle: On the house for his birthday! I had an incredible birthday dinner at Spuntino over the weekend. The food alone would have been remarkable but the hospitality at this restaurant is really something else, from the person who seated us, to the beverage manager, and of course our server, everyone was warm and kind and they just clearly know what they're doing. It's hard to even describe, but I left on cloud nine. I wanted everything on the menu, but we ordered the arancini and burrata and they were both otherworldly. I could not believe the perfection of the burrata, the greens were so perfectly dressed and the bread had the perfect amount of salt. The burrata itself was so fresh and delicious. I also ordered the special of the evening and it was incredible. The beverage manager brought amaro birthday truffles, and then some samples of their house-made amaro (broken record here, but this part was also unreal). And we were so incredibly full and still ordered dessert and ate every crumb. This is a truly special restaurant. The service was comparable to the handful of fine-dining, prix fixe restaurants I've experienced, in that it was definitely elevated, but you get none of the pretense or stuffiness or snobbery here. I was surprised at how underwhelming the meal was after reading all the reviews. We ordered the focaccia ricotta appetizer and the insalata, both were fine and not offensive but nothing special. We ordered the special pasta dish that was one of the worst things I've had in awhile. The dish was supposed to be a duck ravioli that sounded delicious but the pasta dough was dense and the meat that came out of the ravioli was a gray paste that looked like canned meat. They've also set up a gorgeous tent canopy for safe outdoor dining during COVID! For drinks, we got the Spritz, the Bourbonator Sr, and the Rocky Mountain Rye- all wonderful! For apps- the burrata was one of the best I've had! Perfect local tomatoes and balsamic reduction, enjoyed each bite! Also tried the Arancini and the Polpo. Ate here for the first time over the weekend. For appetizers we ordered the Focaccia e Ricotta, the olives (not pictured), and the Salumi e Formaggi. All three were divine. The ricotta dip that comes with the Focaccia was out of this world good. If you love olives, you'll be in heaven with that appetizer. Some of the best olives I've ever enjoyed. Everything on the Salumi e Formaggi board was incredible. We loved the carrot jam the most but the meat and cheese selections were also fantastic long with the candied pecans. For the main course we ordered the pasta special (butternut squash with bacon) and the Cavatelli. Their homemade pastas are light and delicious. The pesto on the Cavatelli was particularly tasty. Portions are definitely more European, but the perfect amount to feel full, not stuffed. For dessert we ordered the cheese cake and the Zeppole. The cheesecake was a little too dense for my taste, but the Zappole had a delicious pistachio dip. We would definitely come back (and get some gelato next time). Prices are a bit steep, but 100% worth it for excellent food. Service was also great. Enjoyed the restaurant decor and ambiance as well, though inside was a little louder than we were expecting. We've been to Spuntino a few times since moving to the neighborhood about a year and a half ago. After my latest visit, I finally feel the need to write a review -- it was that good. There are a few reasons we've been fans of Spuntino. First and foremost, they have an outstanding happy hour. The cocktails on the menu are fantastic (anything under $10 becomes $5), and the foods available are delicious and great for a happy hour. In some ways, going this route almost makes it feel more like a tapas menu than an Italian place. We'd done the happy hour a few times and have never left disappointed (the Bourbonator is unreal). This past week, though, I went in for the full dinner. Holy. Cow. While I stuck with my go-to cocktail, I tried a few different things. My highlights are below: * Started with the Arancini balls. I believe these are typically with seasonal ingredients; this included hatch green chili for me this time. Wow were these good. * I got the Caramelle for an entree. The pasta was delicious and the mushrooms were perfect. * For dessert, I went for the olive oil carrot cake. This was perhaps THE BEST CARROT CAKE I'VE EVER HAD. Seriously. This is a quaint cute restaurant in the Highlands. We made restaurant week reservations and had great service. It is a small place and the tables are very close together. We started with the sorbet cocktail (cherry sorbet) and it was a bit tart, so keep that in mind if you don't like tart. I had the starter focaccia and ricotta which was really good. They offered more bread when we still had ricotta left. I had the cavatelli which I liked, but was a little spicy. I liked my friend's creamy pasta dish. We got the donut and cake desserts. Every dish was full of flavor, delicious and served hot and fresh. All their pastas are made fresh from their downstairs kitchen and our server John was exceptional. He was super helpful in helping us select all our dishes and wine pairings. The food came out a tad late (really not late at all) which was totally fine because my party was enjoying good conversation. Elliot went above and beyond and served us another bottle of wine and 3 dessert dishes on the house. Super nice!! The story of Spuntino is incredible and I can tell they put much blood, sweet and tears into it and they've won numerous awards in their 7 years in business. This place is great! The menu is unique and delicious offering something for everyone. The atmosphere is comfortable for a gathering with family and friends or even a romantic evening out. The best part was the service our server was so friendly and attentive. Our drinks were always full without having to flag anyone down to ask, empty plates were removed right away and clean silverware was brought out between each course. Wow, Spuntino. What a hidden gem you are! I've been meaning to make it here basically since I moved to Denver five years ago but finally made it happen this weekend when we went in, grabbed two seats at the bar and proceeded to be delighted by the food and service. They have happy hour (even on the weekend!) till 6:30, so we were able to grab some cheaper drinks and they were truly delicious. I loved the Cappelletti Sour! Food-wise, we started with the Focaccia e Ricotta, then each ordered a pasta for our entree. I had their pasta of the day which was an arugula striped ravioli, stuffed with squash and topped with goat cheese and my husband ordered the fettucine. We were sincerely blown away by all of it. The focaccia came out warm and I loved the flaky sea salt on top, plus the pastas were both cooked perfectly al dente. We passed on dessert, but I've heard their gelato is great so we will certainly come back for that. This place is just the best date night spot. I'm so happy to have finally tried it. read more

We had the Salumi e Formaggi (this was okay, good accompaniments), Alce Crudo (elk tartare wrapped in carpaccio; interesting), Granchio (crab over a potato cake; tasty), Cavatelli (our favorite!), Zeppole (like fried chocolate chip cookie balls; SO GOOD) and Tartufo al Cioccolato (perfect chocolate truffle). Listen. The atmosphere is super trendy and comfy... kinda industrial-farmhouse-chic. The food is comforting and casual-yet-upscale. That burrata has Colorado honeycomb on top and it's so dang good - salty, sweet, really awesome. The olive oil gelato was really unexpected and turned out to be my favorite! But the best part of Spuntino is the people who work here. Everyone was so warm, inviting, and friendly. Our server Janine was incredible - she seemed super passionate about the food, was really proud of the drinks, and made some really awesome recommendations because we were indecisive. For example, our servor suggested we split the salad with the apps and meals we were orderiing. He was correct. One of my best dining experiences in Denver. We could not have asked for a better table as we were seated by the front window, overlooking the street as the first snow of the season came down. The ambience felt cozy, intimate, and magical. What stood out the most was the service - our server was a delight. He was attentive while remaining non-intrusive. He provided explanations of the wine, appetizers, and mains in mouth-watering detail. He was gracious and non-judgemental about our budget limitations, and did not steer us wrong with his recommendations. He was aware that we were celebrating, and with that information, he seemed to do everything in his power to make our visit to Spuntino special, providing some small complimentary touches. The food itself was delicious. While Arancini has never been a favorite of mine, it was well-prepared with the cilantro-lime crema adding just the right amount of brightness to what I can sometimes find to be a mushy, heavy dish. The green chili also added a pleasing, lingering spicy element. We split the Agnolotti del Plin and Capellini Aglio e Olio. I really enjoyed the chew of the handmade pasta pockets in the Agnolotti. The cranberries and chestnut cream inspired memories of thanksgiving, while the crisp kale kept the dish fresh. The duck-filling itself felt muted beneath the competing flavors, but it did not detract from the dish. The Capellini was also a treat. The unique blend of Indian spices in a traditionally Italian dish worked so well. I would almost have liked the spices to be more prominent. Lastly, as a bonus treat, we were gifted Tartufo al Cioccolato. As the server warned, this is a truffle that is extremely rich but in a way that makes my chocolate-loving heart so happy.
