The cozy Italian vibe sprinkled with cat decor really made the place unique. The service was so attentive with refilling drinks and clearing plates! I listed everything we had below, and I would say my favorites were the meatballs (so tender) and the trofie Portofino (creamy with lots of flavor). Not very good. Ordered the calamari. It was just ok but was 20% Calamari and 80% fried carrot and zucchini. Looked like a lot but was a cleaver way to rip off the customer. My biggest problem was they brought all the food at the same time. Brought both my wife's and my salad along with the pasta we ordered. Stopped in at the bar at Gattara in the Warwick Hotel before an event. Cute decor in the bar with a wall of cat paws "up in arms" and a black cat peeking out from the back wall of the bar. Bar stools are comfy and pop in yellow leather. Bartenders were friendly but busy. The drink menu has a nice selection of beer, wine, spirits, and specialty cocktails. I ordered the Persian from the Gattara Original section, which is named after types of cats. I was warned it was all alcohol, yet it was not overpowering and was a smooth blend of reposado tequila, Grand Marnier, and Cynar. From the warm welcome by the Yelp team and Executive Chef Mimmo's thoughtfully curated tasting menu to an evening spent meeting fellow Yelpers, every course built on the last. The homemade meatballs, wood-fired pizzas, seafood risotto, Trofie Portofino, and tiramisu each showcased fresh ingredients and careful preparation. I left completely stuffed, but even more satisfied by the hospitality. I vacillated between 3 and four stars. I really wish 1/2 star ratings were possible. I went with 4 stars because the good slightly out weighed the bad. The service was fantastic (kudos to Isabelle) and the Bread Pudding was quite tasty. Among the bad, or at least not desirable, was the pizza crust (too soggy/floppy) and the packaged powdery Parmesan. Please, oh please, provide freshly grated Parmesan as a topping. Since the somewhat disappointing experience a year or so ago, I gave this place another try today. Although the service wasn't still not up to par (the lady who assisted me today was good but it wasn't excellent in any way), I can comfortably say that I enjoyed their food. I had the same thing as the last time: the meatballs. I tell you, depending on where to go, some places over-salt their meatballs where your blood pressure spikes up so high up even after one bite (what an exaggeration!!) And yet, this place knows how to make good meatballs. If I go ahead and tell you what kind of meatballs I don't like, I don't like ones that are salty, hard ones that cannot be split with a fork or knife, have eggy smell (or almost fishy smell). Gattara's meatballs have NONE of that. And yet they are not bland in any way. Meatballs are something I try and eat when I dine out only (I don't make them at home ever). I've been to more than 10 different places in search for good meatballs and I must say that Gattara does the best in making them. For that reason, I have a reason to go back here whenever I crave for them. Along with my meatballs, I had the house salad (side) and the drip coffee. I should have asked for the balsamic vinaigrette on the side as when it came out, it was already all over salad. They used (unfortunately) a bit too much dressing. Very good and came with some toasty bread. The burrata came with lots of things and crusty olive oil bread. It was also good but the burrata seemed smaller than I expected. It was purrrr-fect! I saw a fun tiktok on this place and was so happy to go during my birthday! I booked the reservation online through the app, Open Table. We had a burrata appetizer which was fine but needed salt, which wasn't on the patio tables where we enjoyed a pleasant spring evening. Friend had the Bronzino, which was excellent. The wine I initially ordered was turned (truly foul), so the very attentive and friendly waiter replaced it with something much better. Not sure if it was comped since I didn't see the check. Even with a reservation, we waited (along with many others) over a hour before we left. The hostess, Bella, was completely overwhelmed and very rude. When we asked what the wait time would be, she spoke in a clipped, sarcastic tone that it could be 15 minutes or an hour. I want to preface this with some context. I did flag someone down and was told there had "been a death" (contextually I assume that one of the employees had experienced an unexpected death in the family) and so Gattara was very short staffed for the evening of Valentine's Day. However. We had a 5:45 pm reservation and we were seated right away. We then proceeded to sit with only water for over an HOUR. During this time, someone refilled our water glasses once, but we were never spoken to. No one came over and said hello, no one gave any context to what was going on. Not one word was spoken to us even by the gentleman who gave and refilled our water. After about half an hour we started looking around wondering what was happening as the staff was obviously frantic, multiple people were sitting without drinks/food, and people were leaving. [[HIGHLIGHT]]Despite the obvious chaos, they continued to seat people and the lobby was packed.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] I did eventually flag someone down to say I knew they were busy, but I just wanted an ETA on when we could expect service as we had yet to be even greeted. He informed me of the situation and told me he didn't have any kind of time estimate. We ended up leaving around 7:10 pm having only received waters and we were far from the only ones who left. What is odd about our situation is that a couple who came in after us was actually served their entrees. This all to say, I want to be sympathetic because there was obviously a tragedy that occurred. However, NOTHING was communicated to the guests. The mitigation of this situation was abysmal and could have been handled in a million better ways. A staff member even called us the day before to confirm the reservation. The meal was a $120 per person pre-fix that included a glass of prosecco and a choice between two appetizers, two entrees, and two desserts. At a higher end restaurant and at a cost like that, the very base minimum I would expect would be for the staff to apologize for the wait, explain the situation, have a time estimate, and give the option of leaving. We were literally calling other restaurants while sitting there to see if they had openings (which majority did not obviously because it was Valentine's Day). We had this reservation for well over a week and ended up getting takeout from Angelo's Tavern and hanging out at home. This restaurant has been on my list for a long time and I was excited to try it. And honestly, if someone had even just acknowledged us, it would have been a different story. But we felt completely unappreciated and had our time wasted. Complete mismanagement of the situation and has left a horrible taste in my mouth. Like another reviewer said, it was too soft in the middle and the toppings all fell off. The taste was lackluster and bland, not spicy at alll considering the name. Gattara is a pretty space inside a boutique-looking hotel. The dining area is pretty spacious and they also have a wood fired pizza oven. I come here most for happy hour. There's is decent, with drink and food options. The HH food is extra small portions, so it's kinda "happy" hour but might be the actual price of a meatball from a whole meal, maybe, lol. There's a bartender there I really like but service overall has always been very good. This is another spot I learned about from a Yelp event. I came here with my girlfriend for Valentine's Day. I placed a reservation several days prior. Our reservation was set for 6:15 on February 14th. When I arrived at 6:10 the hostess was under extreme stress as an influx of people came in right around the same time I did. Apparently we all had a 6:15 reservation and they did not have enough tables for all of us. I had to wait a little over 45 minutes to get sat. When we finally got sat, it took over an hour and 25 minutes to get our food. The waiter seemed like he was also having a really bad day. He barely said anything to us and just basically asked us what we wanted to get. By the time we got our dessert it was 9:15 PM. I tried to locate the manager, but I could not seem to find him, and there was a gigantic crowd of people all wanting to see the manager as well. For the price that I paid for this experience. It was quite possibly one of the worst experiences I could've possibly encountered. I would genuinely like to have a partial or full refund if possible because this was a really bad experience especially for a special night like Valentine's Day where I'm trying to put a lot of effort into finding the right spot to take my girlfriend to. Update: they decided to PM me to complain about a perfectly reasonable and fair review. They also didn't like that I did one other review elsewhere. Full disclosure: I got mine via delivery so I can't really rate the in-house service or ambiance. I also want to state for the record: I HAVE to do delivery for food. I have several disabilities which prevent me from driving and I am also immune compromised. That being said, I don't hold restaurants accountable for the presentation of delivery food. I have an air fryer, microwave and oven. Meaning, if something shows up colder or ended up being soggy rather than crisp I am more than understanding that delivery isn't going to produce the same quality I would get in-house. Its no one's fault. However, I should be able to get at least the same "basic" quality AND quantity of food as a patron who can actually physically go into the restaurant. I miss that. Basic quality and quantity is not what I got. Meatball appetizer, I got 2 small ones drowning in sauce with 2 thin pieces of bread. Caesar Salad: I got very, very pale romaine lettuce and croutons that were obviously out of a package. Th camon my phone definitely "enhanced" the photo rather than capturing the accurate state. Anyone who has had this kind of salad executed badly can attest to how absolutely bitter white Romain greens are. There was also zero cheese on it. I ordered a steak: very, very good seasoning. However, it was overcooked to the point that it's grey; making it very hard to chew. . It honestly looked like I just got the end of various steaks. The mushroom risotto was very tasty.
