Cute little bar inside the Outrigger. The bar had plenty of seats and the farthest one had a view of the ocean. Came here to try their famous mai tai. Not usually a mai tai fan, but this one was probably one of the better ones I've had. The foam on top was pretty tasty. The bartenders were nice and attentive. Beautiful location at the Outrigger hotel Located ocean front. While the views are incredible, the service was good, and the atmosphere with live music and beautiful set up is terrific. The food was meh I wish we would have came maybe for happy hour. But even then still pretty expensive and only a few dollars off. We had the appetizer wings, pizza, and hubby had a beer and I had the mocktail. Will say food was good that sauce with the wings so great not your regular ranch. Glad to see that Monkeypod Kitchen has a new location in the heart of Waikiki. Prior to this, you had to drive through the island to Ko'olina. To get to this new spot, you'll have to either pay for parking near the Outrigger Waikiki or go directly to the hotel and valet. Valet is $15 with validation for up to 4 hours. Once you get to the Outrigger, you will need to walk straight down past the other restaurant and lobby area. Then you will be greeted with the hosts at a counter. During this adventure, my party and I were walk ins and was seated within 20 minutes. The restaurant itself is huge and open. Decor was gorgeous and I couldn't take my eyes off of how the layout just blended so well with the natural settings of the beach. The downfall: there was no cool winds to cool us off in the summer heat, we arrived there when the sun was still out, and sat by the hot open kitchen. Now onto the food: Most of the items on the menu are similar or even same as the other Monkeypod location. Not to mention, about 50% of the menu appeared to be the same as another Merriman's restaurant in town. Therefore, I was not shocked by the menu and also not impressed. I was hoping to see more variety as we were in a location that visitors are more frequent than the locals. Service was good. The 3 of us that had fish dishes noticed the fish was very dry and over cooked. My son had the lobster pasta. He said it was good. And my grandson's pizza was good. Originally our bartender greeted us warmly, but it quickly became apparent that they were not going to be attentive during our stay, especially after mentioning we would only be having drinks. I had a Mai tai (heard amazing reviews), that was good, but not the end all be all. Unfortunately the lack of attentiveness from our curly haired bartender caused us to make the decision to leave promptly after having our first round of drinks. So. I'm from Hawaii and go back regularly. Always home. I'm so old I remember the Shore Bird days. When we'd all get the discount from the weekly tourist magazine in high school for a big night out. And I'm a fan of Merrimans. So I had elevated expectations. I lit was a disappointment. We had a junk seat in the corner by the bar. At least water front but the waves made the floor super wet. Slip liability for sure. Our server was junk. And food was subpar. Had the saimin. My S&S is better. Music seemed ok but couldn't see. Don't know if I'd go back. As a hapa that generally avoided Waikiki like the plague I will say we love going. But honestly there are other places I'd go to. In the Reef go to Kani Kapila by the pool. I swear Waikiki is the baby Nashville for Hawaiian music and Kani Kapila is ground zero. Food is fine. Hulas above Dukes at Outrigger Waikiki is comparable vibe and better. A step up is Eating House by Roy Yamaguchi at the International Market Place. First time and I'll go back. We also went to Beach House at Moana Surfrider for the prix fixe menu. Different price/experience but huge fan now. Then there is House Without a Key at Halekulani. Another more expensive place but fantastic entertainment. Regardless of where. Go and spend! read more

This was one of the last places I tried, while I still lived on Oahu. It is definitely a restaurant that is catered to tourists or at the very least special occasions. It is tucked away adjacent to a hotel. It has a beautiful view of the ocean, and the ambience is very appealing. In terms of the service, it was prompt, friendly, and fast. Didn't rush you when you were trying to order food and they were very good about answering questions. I ordered the poke tacos which had amazingly fresh tasting poke with the right amount of crunch from the taco. Additionally, I tried the fish and chips, which came with a very good tartar sauce and some pickled herbs on the side which went really well with the fish and chips. The food here is delicious and it is a great place to bring a date or a business perspective. Enjoy the views, enjoy the drinks, and have a great meal with some good dessert at the end. The new monkey pod in Honolulu is a great place to have a night out with family, friends, or maybe just a date night. The restaurant is attached to the back of the outrigger and has an open air concept looking over the small beach behind the hotel. The food was great and the service was good as well. The restaurant was a little tricky to find but without any help we were able to locate it at the back of the outrigger hotel. It was a very warm night and the open air dinning area was a little uncomfortable when we were trying to cool off from the walking. But our server was on point with all of the water refills. But the food did take a little while to come out. Our waiter checked on us a good amount of times until our food finally arrived. The poke tacos were great and fresh, im kind of disappointed we didn't take the waiters suggestion and add a fourth taco to the plate. The spicy bulgogi tacos were nice and juicy with lots a flavor as well, if you're okay with spicy foods this dish is a good choice, if not stay away! The kalua pork pineapple pizza was a hit also! The cheese was good and the saltiness of the pork and sweetness of the pineapple mixed so well. All in all the experience was great. The monkeypod is definatley the place to go if you are looking for a place to sit and watch the view. I came here after recommendation from my friend's research as we are traveling here for vocation. They have seating by the beach front, where you are able to see the beach. On weekends they do have live music, listening to ukelele and watching the ocean wave at hawaii while sipping mai tai is just something that is more magical than regular bar hype. They also have happy hour which makes the apps and selected drinks cheaper. I would recommend coming here for esp happy hour. The place is located within the hotel, so you do have to pass by the hotel entrance and pool, hidden in the back. Parking is expensive for the parking lot, if you are okay with walking, I would recommend parking off far and walk. And/or walk from your resort. But coming here for the hype, atmosphere more than for the food and drinks of course. read more

We asked if they could put down the curtain but was told no. Food, meh. I got the bugogi pork tacos. 3 small tacos (nothing else on the plate) for $22. Cocktails, the Mai Tai I had was good. Monkeypod Kitchen finally opened their second location on Oahu in Waikiki. It's where the old Shore Bird restaurant used to be. It's right on the beach in the Outrigger Reef Waikiki Beach Resort. Now I don't have to go all the way to KoOlina. The food and service was on point. We had the Pete's Fish & Chips, Maui Cattle Co. Burger and Macadamia Nut Mahi Mahi. I'm usually a fish and chips kind of person and it was pretty good. I really liked the mac nut mahi as well. It was delicious with the cream sauce. My friend said that the burger was yummy. I didn't try it. As with a lot of shops and restaurants in Waikiki, you'll have to find street parking. I believe the hotel valets, but there's no self parking. read more

So, lemme get started with the food. The Drinks, ALWAYS on point, ALWAYS delicious. They are known for their Mai Tai's, not that yucky sugary drink you get at some places around the world. a REAL Mai Tai! Then we got some truffle fries and their Roasted Chicken Wings. I was a little hesitant because having a roasted chicken can be dicey, but these were super delicious. OH, and that yogurt/feta dressing...I could eat a large bowl of it.
