We had our work Christmas lunch here...we had a group of 12. First time to this location. I ordered the fish and chips with avocado cucumber salad...loved both dishes. Love the avocado cucumber salad...I can taste the freshness in the avocado, cucumber, sweet onions, tomatoes, and cilantro tossed with a nice tangy vinaigrette dressing...tagines was just right and not overpowering. Fish was tasty and had a good batter...I think fries that came with the fish and chip could be better as it was a little wrinkly-room-temperature. We ordered a few slices of the banana cream pie, chocolate pie, and strawberry pie...all were good pies. Love the strawberry pie as it was nice and light and not too sweet...crust for all the pies were out of this world good which is the key to any pie. If the crust is good, most likely the pie is good. Loved the chocolate pie...slightly rich and I like how they have the pie sit on the dash of caramel... when you eat it together, it balances out the richness in the chocolate. Banana pie was the best...best banana pie I've had so far. Loved that the whip for all pies as it was not airy...has a cheesecake texture to it. We also ordered taco poke for pupus and that was delicious. I would definitely go back for those taco poke and try other items. Great evening, soup to nuts...we arrived very early for our reservation but were seated at the beachfront almost immediately upon check-in...we ordered their super fun Mai tais and enjoyed them...but my son and u wanted an authentic Mai tai... and the bartender DELIVERED! Justin was our server...total pro, very friendly, and he absolutely nailed the experience for us. He steered us to the the pole tacos (outrageous) and the shrimp dumplings ( also outrageous). The three of us were blown away by our entrees-- rib eye, monster prawns, ahi -- and realized this was by far the best meal of an entire week in Waikiki. Excellent place! Great location, amazing views. Food was very very good, bloody mary was okay. A little pricey for what you get but everyone who visits and stays in the area should go. This visit was for brunch but their lunch and dinner are both GREAT! I am local and go here every once in a while just for the views and drinks! Amazing! So happy to have chosen to try monkeypod. The menu has great options. Was hard to choose as the pizza looks and smell amazing! But ordered the macadamia crusted fish with jalepeno mashed potatoes and it is oh so good! Cannot wait to visit again and order it again. The fish was perfect and tasty, the potatoes have great jalepeno flavor but are not spicy. Na Ka Oi cocktail was also very tasty. After a last minute plan to travel to Hawaii, I was so glad I was able to snag a last minute reservation! Although they also take walk-ins, it was nice to book a time around sunset as well. Stunning view while eating! There was also live music and he was so good The ambiance was really nice and chill, nothing too loud but not too quiet. For appetizers, the poke tacos are a must! The avocado cream sauce on top was so good on it. My boyfriend ordered the lamb chops and we were surprised at how thick they were for the price. We've been to others in our hometown that are not as nearly as generous with the portion for a higher price. Our drinks were also really good- I have a mild allergy to alcohol but since we were in Hawaii, I thought one drink wouldn't hurt! Our server was very accommodating to my request to have a little less alcohol in it so it wasn't too bad and tasted great! Great food, great view and great ambiance. It is INCREDIBLE for the ambiance with good service. I don't think you can get any closer to the beach and I love the open-air concept. The menu is unique and features local food, and they are known for their unique twist on Mai Tai's. I got the gnocchi for an entree. It was delicious, but I do feel like for the prices you can get a better value. You are paying for the view. I did feel that the serving sizes were fairly small for the price. read more

Great waterfront place to grab a bite, beer, or happy hour in Waikiki. There are few places that are right on the water, so if that if what you are looking for I highly recommend it here. Prices are a little high for what it is, but you are paying for the location, the view, and the atmosphere. All and all, solid choice. I will be back for sure! read more

We went for happy hour, and it was disappointing. The food was cold. I asked for the happy hour Cabernet , and when we got the bill it was 17 dollars a class and after checking the wine prices on line the most expensive cab was 20 dollars a glass I was not asked or told what wines to choose from she just took it on her own to give me the most expensive one on the menu. Three classes of wine was 51 dollars in my opinion that's not happy hour prices. read more

I've seen too many small shops get overwhelmed by stiff tourists who read these reviews and storm the place only to cheap out on the tip. Keep local business alive. There are limited drink options and no real seating. But this is how it should be. Just order your food and either eat it standing up in the lot or in your car like a real foodie. It's worth it.

The chicken tonkatsu was crispy, juicy, and exactly what we were hoping for. I also loved that they offer refills on the cabbage and vegetables, just like in Japan. It's one of those small touches that makes the whole meal feel more authentic. The highest praise came from my preteen, who said it was the best tonkatsu he's had outside of Japan. WOW!!! Unreal. This Key Lime Pie deserves a permanent place on your menu--truly. We've had desserts all over, and this is, without question, the single best dessert we have ever had. From the very first bite, it's an experience. The toasted meringue--done just a touch extra--hits your palate first with a delicate, lightly crisped sweetness that melts into a soft, cloud-like texture. It's warm, airy, and comforting all at once. Then comes the filling... and wow. The lime is absolutely perfect--bright and vibrant with just the right balance of tart tang and smooth sweetness. It's refreshing without being sharp, indulgent without being heavy. And then... the crust. That thick, nearly half-inch graham cracker crust is something special. Rich, buttery, and deeply satisfying--it tastes like it's been soaked in the most heavenly amount of butter imaginable. It grounds the whole dessert in a way that makes every bite feel complete. Altogether, it's one of those rare desserts that makes you pause, close your eyes, and just enjoy the moment. Please, we are begging--do not let this be just a special. This needs to be a permanent menu item. It's too exceptional to disappear. Loved the fresh lemon grass in it. Even the Hirabara Farm Mixed greens salad stood out--fresh, vibrant, and thoughtfully composed. We also have to mention the Mai Tai with lilikoi foam--hands down the best Mai Tai we've ever had. I had heard that it was incredible, but wow! Not syrupy at all--just incredibly smooth, refreshing, and perfectly balanced with that bright tropical finish. One small suggestion: with so many cream-based desserts, a lilikoi pie would be such a beautiful addition--a perfect nod to Hawaii and a fresh, tropical complement to the menu. My husband and I visited Monkeypod twice during our trip, once just the two of us and another time with our family, and both visits were fantastic. The service was consistently friendly and efficient, and the food really impressed us. The first time we went, we were seated near the window with a partial ocean view. Even though we weren't right up against the water, we still got to enjoy a gorgeous sunset, which made for a great dining experience. I ordered the Hamakua Mushroom & Truffle Oil Pizza ($23), and it was absolutely delicious. The crust had the perfect crispy texture, the cheese was delicious, and the mushrooms tasted incredibly fresh and high quality. My husband ordered the Roasted Chicken Wings ($22), which he thought were flavorful and well-cooked. He wasn't a fan of the yogurt sauce on the side, saying it was too acidic and lemony, and would have preferred ranch. On the other hand, I loved the sauce and could have drank it out of the cup because I love lemon. For dessert, we tried the Purple Sweet Potato Haupia Pie ($14), which our waitress recommended. We weren't sure what to expect, but we were both surprised by how much we enjoyed it. It was so unique and unlike anything we've had at home. Definitely worth trying. On our second visit, I ordered the same pizza again (still just as amazing), and my husband tried the Lobster Deviled Eggs ($23). While he thought they were delicious, we both agreed they weren't worth the price. There were only four eggs and just a tiny shaving of lobster on top. The little bit of lobster added didn't reflect the premium price tag. Everyone else in our group enjoyed their meals. We were fortunate to be seated right by the water's edge, with a stunning view of the sunset over the ocean - the perfect setting for a memorable evening. From the moment we were greeted, her warm demeanor and genuine passion for her role shone through. In an era where outstanding service seems increasingly rare, Maddy was an absolute gem - attentive, knowledgeable, and sincerely committed to ensuring we had a wonderful time. The food itself was simply divine. The cocktails- signature MaiTai w/lilikoi foam, white walker, old fashion and Hana Koa lager all YUM. We then started with the mouthwatering lobster deviled eggs before savoring the incredible macadamia nut pesto crusted mahi over homemade gnocchi - an explosion of flavors that left us wanting more. Our friends raved about the catch of the day and the grilled mahi over jalapeño mashed potatoes that were so delicious, we joked about ordering a whole bowl on their own. Maddy then treated us to a slice of the strawberry cream pie for dessert along with a champagne toast- a sweet finale that perfectly capped off the night. We raised a glass to celebrate 40 years of friendship and toasted to cherished memories with one who is dearly missed. Wow is a understatement. 5/5 I've dined at Monkeypod twice recently, and both times I had the pleasure of being served by Ian and Nick--they were absolutely outstanding! From start to finish, the service was top-notch. They were attentive without being overbearing, super friendly, and made the whole experience feel personal and fun. Both visits felt consistent in quality, which says a lot about their professionalism and teamwork. They made great recommendations, kept everything flowing smoothly, and went above and beyond to make sure we had everything we needed. It's rare to find servers who genuinely make you feel like a valued guest, but Ian and Nick do exactly that. Monkeypod is always great for food and drinks, but these two make it a place I'll keep coming back to. Monkeypod Kitchen Waikiki offers a prime location with indoor seating and stunning ocean views. However, my recent visit was unfortunately underwhelming. The service was prompt and friendly, which was a positive aspect. However, the food quality was a major letdown. I ordered the Farmers Benedict, which was advertised as featuring mixed greens with champagne vinaigrette, a poached egg, and jalapeño hollandaise. Unfortunately, the mixed greens were missing the promised champagne vinaigrette, and the poached egg was overcooked, resulting in a hard yolk. While the jalapeño hollandaise was flavorful and a unique touch, it couldn't compensate for the other shortcomings. Overall, while the atmosphere and service were satisfactory, the quality of the food did not meet expectations. I would be hesitant to recommend Monkeypod Kitchen Waikiki based on this experience. read more

The view at Monkeypod Kitchen in the Waikiki Outrigger is absolutely stunning--easily the highlight of the evening. Sitting right on the water with the ocean breeze and sunset made for a beautiful setting. Unfortunately, the rest of the experience didn't live up to the scenery. The food was underwhelming. I had the ahi steak, which sounded promising but turned out bland and lacking any real depth of flavor. The cornbread was dry and felt oddly out of place with the rest of the menu--more of a filler than a feature. Service was equally disappointing. Staff seemed disengaged and inattentive, which made the overall experience feel rushed and impersonal. If you're coming for the view and a drink, it might be worth a stop. But if you're expecting a memorable meal or top-tier service, you may want to look elsewhere. read more

The ambiance was vibrant and lively, and the staff matched that energy with warmth and enthusiasm. This place gets very busy, so reservations are highly recommended if you want to avoid a long wait. Despite the crowd, the service was impressively smooth. The waitstaff were attentive, organized, and kept everything running seamlessly. We had an incredible dining experience at Monkeypod in Waikiki while celebrating my wife's birthday. The atmosphere was vibrant yet relaxed, and the service was warm and attentive from the moment we arrived. I ordered the rib eye steak, and it was cooked to perfection--tender, juicy, and packed with flavor. My wife chose the Seared Ahi, which was beautifully presented and absolutely delicious. We both couldn't stop talking about the jalapeño mashed potatoes--creamy with just the right kick, they were easily one of the highlights of the meal. I recently visited Monkey Pods in Maui while the ambiance and atmosphere were pleasant, I must admit that I was disappointed with the quality of their mai tais and customer service. The passion fruit flavor was overly sweet, which doesn't compliment the flavor of mai tais and when I expressed my dissatisfaction to the bartender, she swiftly retreated without offering an alternative or suggesting another drink option. Luckily, we didn't have a chance to try their food, as it would have been concerning if the drinks were indicative of the overall taste and quality of the menu. Perhaps we dodged a bullet in that regard. If you're seeking a recommendation, I highly suggest visiting Hulu Grill instead. Their exceptional service and well-crafted drinks make for a truly enjoyable experience. read more
