This is an authentic Chinese restaurant so if you are looking for standard fare Chinese food, you will be disappointed. With that said, they have some of the best dishes. I love their spicy shredded pork with green peppers. The egg yolk pumpkin is delicious even though it sounds a bit wierd. And I come here for their Chinese skewers. Came on Sunday night, plenty of parking. The restaurant was pretty full. All the patrons were young kids from mainland Chinese. The first waitress wasn't super helpful. She sold us the skewer hot pot, but she couldn't tell us what was in the standard pot which is 12 different skewers for $20. It's a mix of vegetables, tofu skin, and fish balls.The skewers were pretty meh. We also had pork and green peppers which was super spicy, like made us cry spicy. It was good but kinda small for the price. None of the waitresses were particularly nice or helpful, but that's pretty Chinese. Not sure how good their English is. The restaurant wasn't too clean. Seems pretty standard Chinese, would have to eat more dishes to give a better rating on taste. read more

Extremely expensive for what what u get. Menu is pathetically limited for a Chinese restaurant. Our group ordered five different noodle soups together with two dishes. So this review. Basically covers one third of its menu. The soups are all blatant in flavor and the noodles are the cheap try noodles you can get at ranch 99. The steamed ribs are supposed to be steamed, but instead boiled in a soup with excessive water. The only thing that is acceptable was the pan fried beef dish. So the line at Itea Cafe was ridiculous and Kingchops was closed, ok, with two hungry kids, getting back in the car and driving further and waiting longer for lunch, late lunch (12:45pm) wasn't a wise option. So Long's Kitchen it was. First impression; 80% filled-good, 90% of that 80% was waiting for their food, uh-oh. We soldier on. One high chair please... had to get it ourselves, no menus given, had to ask for menus. Ok, ok, keep going, we're too hungry to leave now, and the kids are set and ready to eat. My wife is Taiwanese so she orders in Mandarin, I comprehend enough to know that they are out of their famous dish and most of the meat dishes can't be made mild, ok, just suck it up, get what we can. Now, I'm a human being, I know people have bad days and work jobs they are not necessarily passionate about, but the waitress clearly expressed these points very precisely with her genuinely irritated frown. Ok, again, we're hungry, these things are forgivable. People have bad days, LET-IT-GO. I see the prices, what! Ok, ok, your family are hungry, just get some food on the table before they start eating their hands. Alas, the food arrives, with good time, didn't take as long as we were expecting. And I caught the waitress squeezing out a smile, albite at another customer, not at us, so she is capable, must have reached the hourly quota with us. The taste of the two dishes we order we good, not bad, nothing great, regardless of the price, not bad at all, all is forgiven, we would come again when their main famous dish is in stock to give it a shot. Then the bomb drops. I pulled out a piece of pork off the dish with a hair sticking out. Ok, let's not jump the gun, it could be a small hair that wasn't plugged from the hog. While still holding this piece of pork on my chopsticks, my wife reaches for the hair, expecting to pull a small piece off the skin... NOPE, it was 4 inches long and is infused into the meat and the sauce. It seemed cooked in very well. Goodbye appitite, hello family sickness, my two boys are 4 Y.O. and an 11 months old, thanks Long's Kitchen. More like Long's Hair Kitchen. (terrible pun, I know, sorry.) My wife calls the older host over, looks to be perhaps the owner. They speak in Chinese. Now I'm angry, I didn't hear anything that resembled an apology from this guy. He left the table grasping the piece of hair like it was a diseased filled hypodermic needle. My wife translates, my suspicion was confirmed, he didn't apologize. Instead insinuated that it's one of our hairs. "That's not ours, nobody in the kitchen has long hair and they all wear hats." Perhaps they get a lot of scamming customers to claims hair in the food to get out of paying, sure, but there are cameras in the restaurant, I assume that this is part of the reason this place is set up more like a bank than a restaurant. So you could at least apologized first, consult the video, and if we are such criminals, public shaming and full is understandable. The boss man was brave enough to send out the frowning waitress to apologize... eventually. And of course took complete responsibility by blaming the hair is due to a bad dishwasher. There was still about a quarter of the dish left that we were planning to take home, that's out the window. The other dish seemed ok, so ok, check please, to be safe, we'll just leave both dishes to your discretion Long's Hair Kitchen. Boss man nowhere to be found. We asked frowning waitress for the check. She took a while, making calculations behind the cash register. Look, we don't expect a free meal. As far as we could tell the other dish was fine. So she returned with the check, again, apologizing in Chinese, and that they gave us a generous 10% discount off the bill. I almost fell to the floor laughing. However, my wife was ferious. I wanted to tell the waitress to bring the boss back out here so I can tell him to keep the insulting 10% discount so I can freely publicly shame his establishment in front of other patrons without any attachments. My wife just wanted to leave, and never come back. So to sum up, we paid $30 for two dishes, one with a hair in it, and while being frowned on with the bonus in having the owner not hesitate to blame us for the hair in their food. We went there on a Saturday night around 6. Half of our group don't eat spicy. We came here because the other restaurant couldn't seat 8 of us at the moment. The lady that greeted us were friendly and she accommodated all our requests: 2 dishes less spicy, other dishes no spicy, no MSG, less sodium, less oil. All of us loved all the food. In the end, all the dished were gone. When we were ready to leave, the lady even came out to say goodbye. This restaurant is definitely underrated. If you were like me, got scared away because of the mistakenly lower review, please give it a try and taste it for yourself. The one star is only for the food. I would give zero for the service as there wasn't any. My dad has been here once when they first opened and things apparently haven't changed much since. There was no one at the front desk when we first walked in. We eventually had to self-seat after the server "directed" us with a head nod pointing at one the many empty tables around. Menus were thrown on our table without any eye contacts or greeting because he was too focuses on the basketball game that was being played with loud volume. No water or tea was offered until we asked when we placed our order, and we ended up getting tap water without ice. We ordered the braised beef noodle soup, steamed pork with flour, and spicy chicken. Food came out rather quickly but warm?! That makes me wonder if the food was pre-prepped and kept at a certain temperature. As far as taste wise, the chicken was too salty, just like some of the other Yelp reviews mentioned. The 5 star yelp reviews are obviously fake. Food was ok but they should really make this a fast food place considering the worst possible service or lack thereof. Overpriced for what you get as well. This used to be 3 different restaurants before they all went bust. Love this place! Best to get it Togo, but still amazing. The waitressing staff is not too professional but the young lady behind the counter is always attentive and very nice. The food is exceptional, other Chinese restaurants seem to cook all the same stuff now a days but this restaurant is honest with its ingredients and very traditional cooking style. Don't know why more people are not coming here but will totally recommended this place to people who want authentic and specialized Chinese food. HOLY CRAP! I really did not expect to find such a decent-taste Chinese restaurant in Irvine. If you come here, you will taste something that's TOTALLY DIFFERENT from other restaurant that sells orange chickens and fortune cookies. The food here has a special flavor of Hunan Province's cooking style, which is spice. It is not terribly hot; I think most people who barely eat spice can handle it. We had Hunan taste eggplant, Crumbled eggs with tomato, sliced pork with green pepper, and boiled fish with pickled cabbage and chill. The eggplant has a darker color than I thought, and there isn't any visible sauce on it. When you taste its soft body, it first tastes salty and then a spicy feeling will fill your throat, but it tastes good. The sliced pork with green pepper was my favorite. Its texture is like bacons. It's saltier than bacon, but less sweetness and probably fresher than bacon. The crumbled eggs with tomato were okay. The two vegies did not get to be mixed together tho. I think it would taste better if two flavors can be more mixed, but it might just be a personal thing. I did not try the pickled fish much, because personally I don't like pickles; you probably would like it if you like pickles. I also had the Herbal Tea drink, it is in an elastic can, not much, but it tasted ok. The herbal flavor was not too sweet, which is good to help the heavy taste of other food. Others drinks are not as good as I expect. They are filled in plastic cups and probably was premade. There isn't a good volume either. I do not recommend getting those. Overall, I liked the food. However, the service was slow, and the food come slow, too. Idk if it's too busy or what, but the food came too late that my friend already claimed his death waiting for it. I hope they can do better on that. It costs about 20-30 dollars each person, which is not too expensive for the food. I do recommend coming. I would not say it's a fancy place, also it is not the best food I have ever had. But it has surely impressed me in a way. Just tried this place out. We had the lamb noodles, simmered vegetables, pork stir fried with peppers and preserved meat with dried radish. I had asked the waitress to recommend some dishes and she was very helpful. Everything was fresh and well prepared. The taste was homestyle and delicious. I felt like I was eating at my Hunan grandma's house. This is not your typical standardized Chinese food or gimmicky hot pot place. I'll definitely be back to try more dishes. read more
