I am by myself I am not ordering large, she then suggest I order small portion of steamed black bean riblets so I did. She brings the riblets after a few minutes, then come back and say we have no more beef for beef noodle soup but we have lamb and pickled vegetable and pork noodle soup. I don't understand all the negative reviews on this...the food was great and the service was super attentive. All the negatives have obviously never eaten at a restaurant in SGV! :) We ordered the steamed meat with taro, the hand pulled beef noodle, stir fry zucchini, spare ribs and hot and spicy intestines (my fave). They warned us ahead of time that the steamed meat would take a while and if it was ok for us to wait and get all the food at the same time. This gave us time for the party of 5 to chat and catch up. Terrible service, don't even think there will be people serve you. They'll not even give you menu if you don't ask. It takes them half an hour to provide one cup of water. As many other reviewers have said, they are not busy, only maybe 3 tables worth of customers, three staff, yet we could not get their attention and every step have to be requested: please bring more table settings, please bring water, etc, etc. TV was very loud playing an Asian game show. My wife asked if they can play a music channel or something. But they offered to move us further away from the TV instead. Awesome and authentic Hunan spot Irvine, good level of spice and flavor. The portions are very generous and good recommendations on dishes to try. Wow. The food here is packed with flavor. I don't think you can appreciate Longs if you prefer healthy blander food or if you don't like spicy food. We got the duck seasoned with soy sauce in Hunan taste $13.99, Saute ed shredded beef w/ hot pepper & celery $14.99, fried green squash $10.99 and steamed minced pork with eggs $10.99. The duck was the star of the meal. I think it was fried and coated with spices. So flavorful. So spicy. The beef was delicious and flavorful as well. Its tough almost like beef jerky and spices paired with the freshness of celery. Order steamed rice to pair with the food. This is not the place to go low carb low sodium or low fat. Some of the dishes took some time to come out and the service was typical to a Chinese restaurant. There was no background music or noise even so it didn't really feel like I was eating at a restaurant. They weren't very attentive or helpful with the menu but we didn't get any attitude. we spilled a drink on accident and they were very gracious about it. This place is a solid 3.5 stars. Here's the breakdown: 5 stars for the taste of the food ( on the oily salty side but good balance, traditional chinese food.) 3 stars for the price of the food. They charge $10 for a plate of stir fried potatoes. Seriously?!?! The price here is really expensive for their portion. You could be paying $15 for a simple pork dish. EH. 3 stars for the service. My server was nice but the boss lady has an attitude. When I first walked into the restaurant, I asked if they take debit/ credit card, server said yes and took me to my table. Was looking forward to fun new experience since our normal place to go to was closed for Lunar New Year. My gf and I went inside and they offered us to sit down at a table. No one was coming to serve us so we tried going up to a sever to order. The server came and we gave them our order and they agreed. 1 hour later another server comes and says we never placed our order. We placed our order with her and waited another hour for our food to come. No one ever came by to fill our water or for anything. The menu here is wrong, the website menu is also wrong, and the menu in person with the QR code given is mostly in all Chinese with no photos. We ordered the hot and sour soup and the seaweed pork soup. The hot and sour soup started off very good until I started to notice how greasy It was after eating a good amount. Placed my order (a single dish), with the single waiter then proceeded to wait as 3 larger groups of diners (again, all asian) came in and placed their orders. After waiting 30 minutes and watching as 2 of those tables were served large meals ahead of me I asked the waiter what was up. Even as she was assuring me that all orders were prepared in order, the cook came out and served the 3rd table that had arrived after me. Thats when I walked. Having owned and worked restaurants most of my life I am sympathetic to the confusion that can happen during rush times or when there are multiple waiters putting in orders at different times. Ok. I want to be fair. I lived in Hunan for my first 18 years, and I know well-enough what authentic Hunan food is. I got a to-go-order from them, and out of the four dishes, there are only 2 dishes I actually like. The ones I don't like: 1)The pork colon猪肠 literally smells like poop. I really hope they can wash it thoroughly before cooking, because I had pork colon in the past and I never smell anything like this. 2) Some Chicken...Ok..I don't really see there are anything else other than bones and skins...They could have made it better by putting some real chicken in it, but they didn't... The ones I like: 1)The famous Hunan fried pork湖南小炒肉。I guess they want to be authentic, so they put a lot of fats in it, and the taste is indeed yummy. But in order to cater to American's taste, they should put more lean meat...Also I'm surprised that they barely put any soy sauce in it... 2) Steamed Pork Rib: this is really authentic, and it reminds me of my high school time in the dining hall..one flaw is that they didn't put any peppers..I mean this is Hunan food.. A traditional kitchen with the noodle soups as their specialty. We got the fresh mushroom with noodles and really enjoyed it - and it was a huge portion too! I came here around dinner time with my family on Saturday and we were quite disappointed by the service here. The servers kept watching TV and it took them forever to take our order. We kept signaling the 2 servers to give us our check and also to give us to-go boxes, but that took about 20 minutes and the restaurant wasn't even busy. The servers kept cleaning the same table together when it really only needed one person to do the job. Not only that but the servers and the boss were not very friendly as well and were constantly on their phone or watching the tv.
