warm tx honey spice cake

What an amazing experience! The food was insanely delicious. The service was over the top. They explained each plate on the tasting menu. The detail on the wine pairing was superb. The restaurant was an intimate setting and perfect for a date night.

Great Food and Service, but Small Portions and Not the Best Location. The place opens at 5:30pm on Saturday and they validate parking in the lot right next to them. The inside is nice. But, the location, overall and in general, isn't prime real estate for this type of restaurant. This restaurant is needed in the area though, to balance from the fast and comfort food. The service was great and the food was great. My partner and her friend had the burger. I had the Sea Bass. They bring out this little thing of heated nuts that's an awesome snack/appetizer. The chocolate cake was good too. But, the portions are small for the price. The portions were pretty European, but the price was still very American.

We had the tasting menu, and were extremely impressed by nearly every course. Standouts were the tomato soup and grilled cheese and the lobster cake. I would reccomend the tasting menu for a special occasion, each course felt like a little gift and we were so excited to try what came next. The restaurant is in an offbeat location for Dallas, but once inside it certainly transports you. The seating is very intimate and the restaurant itself feels luxurious. At the time we went, they were a bit understaffed but the food more than made up for it.

This is STILL such an amazing establishment! Had an amazing experience while reuniting with my girlfriends! The food was, as always, delicious, and the staff were exceptional. A must-visit for a delightful dining experience!

My friend and I got a last minute reservation for the Saturday prior to St. Patrick's Day. The process was quick and easy and when we were arrived, we were immediately seated. There were only two other couples dining during our reservation. However, we did come right before the restaurant was closing, so maybe that's why. The restaurant is very tucked away in deep Ellum, and is very well decorated. Romantic, low lighting, full bar but no hard alcohol You have the option of doing the tasting menu or just ordering the items that you want. We opted for the latter as I am vegetarian and the tasting menu wasn't veggie friendly. we were given a variety of warm nuts upon being seated. It was a cute little snack and they tasted great! Then the chef also gave us these little shots of tomato basil soup - good but nothing special. I ordered a glass of Cabernet for myself as well as the arugula salad and the onion strings. My friend ordered a salad as well. We split the pear cake for desert. Grand total came to a little under $100 for the both of us. Overhaul the ambience is really cute and the food is good but a little underwhelming for the price. The soup was complimentary (so no complaints!) but basic and the onion strings were too salty. The salad was great and the cake was good. Also shout out to our AMAZING waiter Jordan. I put some notes on my reservation, asking for him to make my friend feel special since we were out celebrating a break up, and he did everything he could to make it great for us. Cute spot great for date night!

This was a very good dinning experience. I came in for the chef's 9 course tasting menu. Every dish was very well executed. My favorites were the short rib, lobster cake, seabass and tomato heirloom salad. The grilled cheese sandwich which accompanied the tomato soup was unbelievable. The service was very good, he was very attentive and well versed on the menu and parings. I was very confused why so few parties were there on a Thursday night. I'm really shocked that it wasn't a packed house. I'd recommend doing the tasting menu with the pairings. Consider ubering over as you will probably leave a little tipsy.

Great tasting menu with wine pairing! Cool vibes. Great service! Came here for a business dinner on a Wednesday evening. The place only had a few customers (y'all are missing out!). We were sat in a room off to the left of the main entrance. It was perfect for our smaller party who wanted to talk without many distractions. We got the chef's tasting menu. It was amazing! We had about 7 courses. All were perfectly apportioned so that we had enough to really enjoy the meal but not so much that we waddled out. I can't pick a favorite because they were all delicious. I would order each off of the full menu. The servers were very attentive but not overbearing. We had two people working our table. They described each dish and updated our wine pairings. They took care of all of our needs. Great evening!

Enjoyed our time here on a Saturday night for a birthday dinner. We got there at 6pm and did not leave til they closed at 10pm. There was quite some time between meals, which allowed for the food to digest and keep us full. We had a few people in our party with allergies and the waitress was able to answer our questions about food allergies.

I've heard great things about Chef Tracy Miller's Dallas restaurant Local, and decided to try it out for the first time. They're known for great modern American fare, and as any good restaurant do, tailor their menu based on seasonal ingredients, while trying to maintain crowd favorites. In terms of parking, all around the actual restaurant itself is a gravel parking lot, so unless you're coming in on a busy weekend, you should be able to avoid street parking. Just be careful that you are able to detour into the lot as soon as possible, because there's a lot of one-way roads around the area. The restaurant itself is situated in Deep Ellum and in the Boyd Hotel. If you're looking for a room to rent, you can enter the actual hotel via the restaurant itself as well. The do offer plenty of a la carte menus, but we were in the mood for the chef's tasting menu. I think the price varies based on the ingredients on offer, but they're generally priced at $85 / $120 per person depending on whether you would like to get the wine pairing with your courses (7 courses in total). On this occasion, the amuse bouche was a butternut squash bisque with strands of crispy sweet potatoes. The soup in itself was tasty, just wish they had given us a smaller spoon to eat it with. It seemed less dignified to drink it like you would whilst taking a shot of alcohol, so I avoided doing that (shhh). First course was a tomato-basil soup with a side of grilled cheese. A classic American pairing, the soup was very well seasoned, and the grilled cheese was made of a combination of 4 different cheeses, and the overall effect of this fromage combination was more on the sharper side. Dip the sandwich in the dish and you have a winning bite. Very good start to the meal, and I'll say up top my favorite course. Second course was another vegetarian dish, this time being grilled brussel sprouts with a fricassee salad with spinach and capers. I liked the char on the brussel sprouts itself, but the seasoning on the dish was missing. A sprinkle of salt across the sprouts would've gone a long way. Else, pick the salad with the sprouts and ensure the salty capers are included. Third course was a fish dish (mahi mahi) with hush puppies and gnocchi. Again, felt the seasoning was missing here, and the fish itself was a little overdone for my liking. The gnocchi was tasty. Fourth course was a braised short rib over a bed of roasted sweet potatoes and pan jus. Short rib which is a cut of beef that is usually notorious in that it needs a long time to cook, was tender and fell apart with just a fork. Building a bite with the generous amount of sweet potatoes and sweeter pan jus was good. Then came a palate cleanser, which in this case was a grapefruit sorbet. I personally am not a lover of this particular fruit's flavor (bitterness), so this wasn't a favorite of mine, but did the job of resetting the palate for more flavors to come. Fifth course was another fish dish, this time being halibut with a light crusting over a bed of risotto and green beans. This was easily a close second favorite course of mine. The fish was flaky and very well cooked with a moist center, unlike the cook on the other fish. The risotto was perfectly al dente and not mushy, not crunchy either. Sixth course was a grilled tenderloin over a bed of more risotto and jus. Tenderloin again like the short rib was well cooked and great for beef lovers. Final course was a honey spiced apple cake. It was topped with a cinnamon/honey flavored ice cream, whipped cream and cooked apples, all of which was dusted with lots of powdered sugar. Definitely a great end to the meal for someone like myself who likes to mix sweets with spices. The food definitely had some ups and downs, but overall my experience was great. The portions will definitely leave you feeling nice and full at the end if you're wondering about that. Cannot comment on the wine pairings because I didn't get them though my dining companion did (I just don't like wine, oh noo!!). Satisfied myself with a Diet Coke for my seven course meal :P. I did ask the server if they had a non-alcoholic mocktail they could whip up, but I guess that night they didn't have the capability to do so. Oh well. The service was top notch. I went on a weekday, so the restaurant was pretty empty (well fully empty) when we entered. And I only saw one other table occupied until I left. It was completely heart-breaking to see what the current conditions have done to the restaurant business. There was only one person completely doing all front of house activities including hosting, serving, etc. This person was completely masked up and depending on when you go (when it is slow), you should also be able to maintain social distancing. Just call them and ask. Dallas restaurants like restaurants all over the world need our help during this time. Please support them, but be safe first and foremost.

Thankfully, that is NOT the experience I had at Haywire! I ate here on August 9th, 2025 and enjoyed everything about it. I was with a large party but would love to return for a more intimate experience. On this Saturday, my younger cousin was graduating from Parker University so I was in town for the weekend. At around 1pm, I was one of the first to arrive at the restaurant. Unfortunately the parking is a bit confusing. There was construction being done on the same street when I went but there's a parking garage for customers that's difficult to navigate AND the elevator that connects wasn't operating at the time which was an issue for many (but not me, I got a good spot & walked). My party hadn't all arrived yet so I took a gander. Upon entering the tall doors, the space breathes southwestern elegance: wooden structure, leather seating, separate dining areas with highlighted ranch-style art. The abundance of space gives it an open-concept feel. The lighting fixtures are modern, the space was dim but not too low, with an option to utilize the large windows also. I was quiet impressed at the overall presentation. When my party did arrive, I wanted to keep it simple so I ordered the Chicken Cobb Salad and a Hibiscus Haze with Vodka. The table shmoozed as we ate some of the appetizers: the Crab Dip & Green Tomatoes, both amazing. The food did take some time but, considering it was 10-12 of us, that's expected. The Hibiscus Haze was splendid: smooth & flavorful, a great concoction. Cobb salads are usually pretty thick but this one was HEARTY. It came in a large bowl stuffed with the all the toppings. The dressing it was tossed with was well balanced but could've used a tad bit more. With some pepper & a little ranch, I was set! I defeated the salad but it also left me stuffed to the gills. Satisfying meal that I would order again! There are tons of restaurants to dine at in Dallas & sometimes you never know which is worth your time. Despite the inconvenience of parking, I'd bet my bottom dollar that this is a good place to eat. Whether you want a fine dining experience, it's a special occasion or just want a good drink with a meal, Haywire has enough to satisfy all interests.

Knowledgeable about the menu & great recommendations. Kev was a joy to have as our server. The food is amazing & love the ambiance of the restaurant. My only complaint...we came in early Saturday prior to Stars game. The restaurant wasn't busy at all. We were asked if we had a reservation. We did not, the restaurant wasn't busy at all. We were asked to wait. Waited maybe 5-10mins. No biggie, A lot of open tables were available for immediate sit down. Again that wasn't a big deal. I had asked for a booth & wanted to sit in front room. The hostess said no a problem. She handed us off to a younger hostess and she took us to a table. I told her I had requested a booth. In the front room only 3 tables were occupied. I pointed out the booth and she said that's for party of 6. However, we could have the 1/2 table/booth. Made absolutely no sense because that was for a party of 6 as well. I made this comment & she just stared at me without saying a word. I didn't want to seem difficult and took the table as she just walked away. Kev was confused as we were. No good communication skills. It was an awkward encounter. The restaurant wasn't busy at all & never was whole time there. Kev wasn't sure why she didn't move us a requested & was puzzled himself. However i apologized to him & explained I wasn't trying to be difficult, but prefer booth sitting and most times we will wait for one. We left at 1:45p and restaurant was no busier than when we arrived. Reservation/Booth or not! I guess saying all of this, your front staff need to have more people skills when dealing with your customers. They are the face and first point of contact. Again Kev was amazing & food was outstanding!

They have valet and do validate the garages, but be prepared to walk a block or two for both options. It's a cute restaurant with an area to take pictures and private room for larger parties. Took about 15 minutes to get seated, the server and our waiter, Manny, were both very great. Customer service is definitely their strong suit. The food, however, took a very long time to come out. We got the oysters to start, which were basically just cheese - not necessarily a bad thing. I got the pasta with shrimp and chicken which was very flavorful. My friend got the fried catfish, which she enjoyed. We also shared greens and mac and cheese. The greens were wayyyy too salty, but the mac and cheese was solid. Our drinks were also pretty good. Overall, I would give it a 3.5 but due to the great service I'll give it a 4.

We stopped by on a Tuesday for happy hour, before a concert. Erin was our server, and she was phenomenal. She gave thoughtful recommendations, knew the menu well, and made the whole experience feel easy and welcoming. Now let's talk food. We tried the lamb chops -- great flavor, nicely seasoned, though slightly on the tougher side. The truffle fries? Loved. The burger? Delicious. The oysters? Fresh and absolutely worth ordering. The cornbread was served with a bone marrow butter that added a rich twist, and the cornbread had a subtle jalapeño kick (at least to me!), which I really enjoyed. For drinks we tried the pear cobbler, Island Boy and the Pixie Cup. We enjoyed the pear cobbler the most. The ambiance is warm and inviting -- the kind of place you could come for happy hour and accidentally stay all evening. And I believe parking is validated. Overall, I definitely recommend checking Velore out. Great service, tasty food, relaxed atmosphere, and music at a volume that respects your eardrums. The menu will be changing again soon.
