The Vibe: The most famous BBQ spot in Dallas for a reason. The line is long but it moves surprisingly fast. Hands down the best quality BBQ I've had in TX so far. The Food: Beef Rib, Pork Rib, & Original Sausage: All top-tier. 10/10 quality. The Catch (Watch the Scale!): It's a pay-by-weight system and the checkout process is chaotic. Pro-tip: Stay focused when they weigh your meat. My Experience: I ordered 3pcs pork ribs (~$35), then added 1 more pc of pork rib which somehow rang up as $28. There was a glitch with the scale while the sausage was on it and even though a staff member checked the scale, the final price was still off. I don't think it was intentional, just super hectic. The food is incredible but double-check your receipt and the scale before you walk away. Don't let the crowd rush you!

Must try for bbq!! Parking is a pain. The line moves fast so don't be scared. They do not advertise burnt ends but have them early in the day. The brisket was moist and phenomenal. The turkey had a nice Smokey flavor. The pork ribs were a little over peppered but very tender. The sides were mid - skip em. Ambiance and outdoor seating is beautiful. Love this spot.

Came here for lunch absolutely starving and WOW. This place is nice nice. Like, shockingly nice. The indoor seating area is HUGE, the outdoor seating is also huge, and BOTH have shade (major win). There's a bar, and you can literally watch all the smokers doing their thing, which is honestly so cool--there are a ton of them and it smells AMAZING. Even though there are lots and lots of people, the line moves pretty fast, and you get your sides first (dangerous if you're hungry). I got the mac and cheese and OH. MY. WORD. SO GOOD. It's $9 for a pint, which is kinda expensive, but worth it. We ended up getting the family pack, which makes it cheaper for what you'd normally buy--still pretty pricey though (like $30 per pound for meat), so just be aware. For reference, my family of 6 spent about $180. You get fresh-made meats that they literally cut right in front of you, and it looks unreal. Then we sat down and WOWWWW. The brisket??? Insanely juicy, super fatty in the BEST way, and hands down the best brisket I've ever eaten. Like... life-changing. And the mac and cheese??? ABSOLUTELY DELICIOUS. Best mac and cheese award. Best brisket award. Period. We would come back every single time. My mom didn't love the pork ribs as much, but she still loved the brisket--and honestly, everyone in my family was obsessed with the mac and cheese. They also have a FREE bread and pickle table (yes, free), really nice bathrooms, and amazing sauces. My favorite was the sweet sauce--DANG it was good. 10/10. Already thinking about going back.

Our connecting flight was canceled, and we were unable to get another flight until the next day. Luckily, I've always wanted to visit Texas, and because of the canceled flight, my family and I were able to explore Dallas for almost two days. During one of those days, I checked Yelp for a good BBQ restaurant, and I found Terry's Black BBQ. Based on all of the positive reviews, I was really excited to try some good Texas-style BBQ. I'm so happy to say that I was not disappointed! We were there on a Sunday, and it was packed, but we were lucky enough to find a table right away. Before we got seated, we got in line to get our sides. They have so many sides to choose from, but my favorites were the corn and green beans. My husband wanted to try their rice, but that was just okay. After we grabbed our sides, it was time to get our meats. We opted for brisket, beef ribs, and sausages; everything was delicious!! Everything is seasoned to perfection, and they gave us generous amounts of food. For the drinks, we got fountain drinks, but I did see that they sell beer if you prefer that. As I mentioned before, the restaurant was packed, but we still had more than enough space in our booth to feel comfortable. They have 3 different types of sauce: sweet, mild, and spicy if you want to add it to the food. I tried both the spicy and sweet sauces, but they were just okay. I didn't get to try many other BBQ restaurants while in Dallas, but I really loved this place!

I was in Dallas for a business trip and went to Terry Black's twice! Both times were equally delicious. The line moves fast and there are plenty of tables inside and out. Can't go wrong with the brisket if it's your first time! My favorite sides were the creamed corn and potato salad.

Excited to try this iconic bbq restaurant. The location in Deep Ellum is large with very friendly staff and an organized flow for ordering. BBQ brisket sandwich was a generous portion with excellent green beans! Appreciate the quick clean up by Rodolfo!

I went to Terry Blacks BBQ and had sausage and brisket with a couple of banging sides. This is one of my favorite BBQ spots. The meat was flavorful and cooked perfectly. The customer service was great, with staff who were friendly and attentive. The restaurant has a great layout that makes for an enjoyable dining experience. Overall, a top notch BBQ visit.

Loved this!! Clearly marked allergen information on the menu board (I have a gluten allergy and dairy allergy)!! Food was delicious. Extremely pricey but delicious!! Potato salad was fire and the green beans were godly!! Brisket was tender and juicy and fall apart tender! Ribs were the real star in our opinion!! Staff is efficient and polite, and the vibes are very casual and cool! We will be back!! Update: went back with a friend and just got some stuff to split and snack on! Equally fantastic experience PLUS our waiter was super nice and very attentive!! Cool dude! He (very kindly) brought us over to the pitmaster, Frankie, who showed us around the smoking area! Super great experience!! Be kind and patient with your waiters and waitresses people!! Might get to see the pit (but be nice anyway, duh!)

I was told that Terry Black's is a must visit in Dallas. I visited on New Years Day and the line extended into the parking lot. Still, the workers are very efficient and the line moved fast. My group of 4 ordered one pound of brisket, one beef rib, one jalapeno cheese sausage, two corn breads and pints of the potato salad, coleslaw, green beans, and mac and cheese. The restaurant provides unlimited white bread by their drink fountains. Our total was close to $150, but we had enough leftovers for another meal. The potato salad, mac and cheese, and brisket ends were EXTREMELY salty. At first, we thought the sides maybe weren't mixed thoroughly, but even after another mix, still extremely salty. I had to use the coleslaw and green beans as a palate cleanser. The beef ribs were a little dry and the cheese in the sausage was chunky, not melty. My favorite was the brisket. At first, I thought the cornbread was dry, but it actually tasted great after heating it up in the microwave. As for the ambiance, there is plenty of seating indoors, outside on the patio, and upstairs. We grabbed a table in the outdoor patio space. My friend, as well as the table beside us, had birds poop on them (and painfully close to our food). Overall, a decent experience, but I'm interested in other similarly hyped BBQ restaurants in the area.

I made it here on a Saturday for lunch around noon. I parked a couple of blocks up on Main street for free. The ordering is cafeteria style. There wasn't a line so we picked up our food and paid at the register. The restaurant was clean and there is plenty of room and tables on the inside. I also love when there is a place outside the restrooms to wash your hands which they had between the men's and women's restroom. Now the food for me didn't live up to the hype. The green beans were seasoned well but had too much salt. The macaroni and cheese was creamy but lacked enough flavor. The brisket was tender but lacked seasoning and flavor as well. I felt again the food was pricey. Two trays and one beer came out to $100. Much better bbq can be found in Texas in my opinion for that price.

Epic! Best BBQ in my life. Brisket was melt in your mouth good and the house made original and sweet BBQ sauce mixed perfectly to help this experience be one of the best I have had. Don't forget to load up on the deserts early or you'll miss them. Quick, easy and amazing service as well. Absolute NO BRAINER when visiting Dallas. Great setting too, everyone is happy and plenty of seats.

I'm craving the food as I write this review. The pork ribs and brisket were delicious. I highly recommend this restaurant. I was not happy to pay for each rib by the pound, but I ordered three pieces. The food was finger licking good, and I will return again soon. The line was wrapped around the building, but service was fast and smooth. The ambience was like a smokehouse. The restaurant was filled to capacity. Check it out!

Is it possible to order a tasting platter to sample all the different meats at once?

Do put bbq sauce or is bbq sauce available to put on your ribs?

The ribs are served unsauced. There is usually sauce at the tables or you can request sauce on the side for carry-out.

How early should you line up on a Saturday?

It varies. I’ve been there on a Saturday at lunch time and it wasn’t bad. Another time it was packed. But the line moves quite fast even if it’s an extra busy day. Hardest part is seating. The outdoor area helps but if it’s not a nice day to sit… Read more

    Do they take reservations?

No they do not. But it's worth the wait.

Do the beef ribs sell out early like a lot of places, or will they be available later in the day?

Yes they definitely sell out. I usually am there at 11am and they have them, but the supply is definitely finite.

If I'm coming by for lunch on a Monday, how early should I get there for the line?

    any time. they move fast!

I have an allergy to limes and tomatoes. Does the bbq come separately and is the meat marinaded in lime juice or oranges?

I keep seeing them advertise Black Margaritas on Instagram. Do they serve them in Austin also, or just Dallas? Do they taste like a regular margarita?

Served in both locations and it has a hint of mescal but it is not too strong. Try one.

Do they not serve smoked chicken here?

No, they do not. Per their menu, they serve brisket (their specialty), beef ribs, turkey, pork ribs, chopped beef, and sausage. But, unless you just gotta have chicken, they are well worth going to. Have been there twice now and plan on going back… Read more

Ordered Turkey, Jalapeño Cheddar Sausage and Mac and Cheese on the 2 meat combo plate. First off, that was $27 which I thought was rather high but with the hype I thought it might be worth it. The turkey was tender and juicy and rather flavorful, except for the end piece of turkey breast (I assume) with the skin side which was extremely tough. The jalapeño cheddar sausage was okay, but it didn't really retain either the jalapeño, cheddar, or the smoky taste which I thought was disappointing. The Mac and Cheese had bacon bits on it which were nice and crispy but the Mac and Cheese wasn't very rich or complex flavor wise, which I found slightly underwhelming. The sauce was super runny and while it had flavor, I never think having to put sauce on stuff to give it flavor is the answer. All that being said, for $27 I wasn't going to leave anything on the plate. The service I thought was rather hands off and I'm surprised nobody came and checked on us although that may be just how things are. The ambiance was cool with old license plates and pictures along with some cool western themed things up on the walls to make it seem warm and homey. All in all, I was left with the feeling that there should've been more and I was kinda disappointed after all the hype I've seen and all the gravitas that the name Pecan Lodge carries with it. I'd say probably a 6.5-7/10 so that lands me at 3 stars because it really didn't feel 4 star worthy.

My Overall Rating - 5 Stars (Atmosphere, Service, Food, Return) Atmosphere - Kafi BBQ can be found in a shopping strip in Irving-Valley Ranch. Only opened Friday - Sunday, on my most recent Sunday visit around dinner time, Kafi was packed. The patrons were a great mix of families, BBQ lovers, and those looking for high quality Halal meats. Smoke was in the air. 1 Star. Service - The staff is super friendly and nice. Pro Tip - Go for lunch or before 6 before items are sold out. A few items were sold out on my most recent visit (my fault I arrived at 6:45) and the staff weren't aware of what was available, leading to some confusion, but they were so nice it didn't impact my meal. 1 Star. Food - By now, you've probably read or heard about Kafi's Wagyu Brisket. For me, I love following @kafibbq on Instagram so I can see what Salahodeen is cooking up. On this visit, it was the Brisket Sandwich. First off, the house baked bread roll is soft, but firm enough to hold Kafi's famous brisket on a pile of home made cole slaw and pickets. The result was one of the best BBQ sandwiches I've eaten. The bite was soft, smokey, crunchy, and tart (from the pickles). It was a special, and I'm not sure if Kafi will keep this on the menu, but I hope they do. 2 Stars. Will I Return? - Yes. It's pricey, but it's worth it. While the brisket is great, I suggest you follow them on Instagram to see what's cooking and plan your visit around the specialty items. 1 Star.
