If you're looking for incredible BBQ in Dallas, Terry Black's is absolutely worth the wait! We went during one of their busiest times, and even though the line looked long, it moved surprisingly fast. The beef ribs and brisket were hands down the best I've ever had in my life--perfectly smoked, incredibly tender, and packed with flavor. The creamed corn was amazing, the rice was delicious, and the banana pudding was absolutely to die for. I also loved their sweet tea! The only thing that didn't quite live up to my expectations was the mac & cheese, but everything else more than made up for it. The atmosphere was fantastic, with multiple dining rooms to choose from, so it never felt overcrowded. They also have a really nice outdoor seating area, but with the Texas heat, we decided to eat inside. The staff was incredibly friendly, helpful, and kept everything running smoothly despite how busy it was. We'll definitely be back the next time we're in Dallas!

Went with the small family pack so I could try a little bit of everything. For the meats, I got the brisket, pork ribs, and sausage. The brisket was the standout for me. Tender, smoky, and packed with flavor without needing any sauce. The pork ribs were juicy and pulled apart easily, and the sausage had a great snap with plenty of seasoning. The sides were just as impressive. The mac and cheese was creamy and rich, the green beans had great flavor, and the potato salad was classic Texas barbecue done right. The Mexican rice was a nice change from the usual barbecue sides, and the cream corn was sweet, buttery, and hard to stop eating. The cornbread tied everything together perfectly. The restaurant has a lively atmosphere and you can smell the smoke as soon as you walk in. Even with the crowds, the line moved efficiently and the staff kept things organized. This was my first time at Terry Black's and it absolutely lived up to the reputation. If you're in Dallas and want Texas barbecue, this place is worth the trip.

I thought Texas bbq was overrated until I tried Terry Black's. No lie, best bbq I've ever had in my life! I went on a weekend late afternoon and surprisingly there was no line at this location o: the service was very fast and the cashiers were super friendly and talkative! The ambiance was laid back with plenty of seating and self service. We got the brisket, jalapeño sausage, and pork ribs. Everything was SO tender and literally melted in my mouth. I loved the sauces they provided as well/ especially the sweet and spicy sauce. Every single side dish slapped as well. My fave was the corn salad & bread! The only side that didn't wow me was the Mac & cheese. I would 100% be back and recommend to anyone who's visiting!

Might go down as one of my greatest regrets in life...why didn't I say "moist" or "fatty" brisket??? I said "brisket" because it's what they are famous for and I assumed that it would be good regardless of what I said. I was wrong. The brisket was tough, dry, not edible. Two groups with my family got brisket after us, maybe by an hour, and asked for fatty, and they loved it. It looked amazing. I was beyond jealous. So that's why I give 4 stars instead of 5. The beef rib is special. So good. Flavorful, juicy, big. The pork ribs also special. Amazing flavor. Very tender. The turkey was good. Moist and tender. But it's turkey. Not special. The sides were all good as well. The highlights were they Mac n cheese, Mexican rice, and corn. All delicious. I kept eating. Very clean on the inside. Everyone working there very nice.

Food: This was my first time having BBQ in Texas, and needless to say I was really looking forward to trying out one of the most highly-rated spots in Dallas. My partner and I shared 1/2 a pound each of Beef Brisket and Pork Ribs, along with sides of Mac and Cheese, Mexican Rice, Green Beans, and Cream Corn. The sides were pretty decent--the dense, creamy Mac and Cheese stole the spotlight for me. Then, as far as the meats, they had a nice smoky flavor, but they fell a bit short--not sure if it's because they've been sitting out for a bit, but it was a tad dry. In total, spent ~$70 for our order. Service: Ordering is relatively streamlined--you first order your sides, cafeteria-style, then order your meats. The person who checked us out was helpful and gave us the low-down on how to order the meat. Ambiance: Casual, rustic. Parking: Adjacent parking, but limited. However, street parking is available.

My first Texas BBQ and it did not disappoint! We got there at 12:30pm on a Saturday and was pleasantly surprised that the wait was very short (maybe only 10 min). The line is super fast and efficient. We got the small family meal, which comes with 3 lbs of meat (you can mix multiple meats as you like) and 5 sides. And got a few other items on the side. We got brisket, sausage (both kinds), pork ribs, burnt ends, and 1 beef rib. Everything was delicious. The brisket was our favorite. For side, we got Mac and cheese, green beans, potato salad, beans, and coleslaw. Potato salad was our favorite! They've got self serve toast and bbq sauces are in the coolers. Overall an amazing experience. I would love to come back the next time I'm in the state.

We came for the food but stayed because of the excellent staff!! From Cici at the meat station to Luz at the bar. I mean wow!!! Luz went above and beyond to make these out of towners feel so welcome to wonderful Dallas!! She is a gem!!! We ordered the peach frozen and tried a ranch water. Two drunk we typically never would have ordered. The food needs no explanation Get the beef ribs .... So tender they fall off the bone. We also got turkey, Mac and cheese, pinto beans and green beans Food coma So delicious So worth it

When you're looking for BBQ in Dallas, this should be the first place you consider. It's rustic and gives old fashioned farm vibes. The food is amazing! I love the cheddar sausage and they don't hold back on the beef brisket sandwich; very filling! The BBQ sauces are sensational; 3 types packed with flavor! I enjoy the corn as well; might be too sweet for some so if it's not your thing then try the Mac! The staff is always so friendly and helpful! They keep me coming back! Highly recommend! 10/10

This was absolutely delicious! The tour we got and to see the quality that goes into every dish that is made is truly inexperienced! Nate was awesome in showing and letting us try a variety of everything offered! The way the meat comes off the bone is unreal! The taste of the barbecue sauce... Is one like no other! Fully recommend! This is for sure a family type environment, where everyone can enjoy!

The food never misses, always 10/10! The brisket was amazing as a sandwich, I prefer the potato bun vs the free sandwich bread. The rice x beans are the best sides imo. The staff are always nice and helpful when deciding what to get. Always a must when in TX!

After seeing reviews on Rednotes and a recommendation from a Texas friend, I had to try Terry Black's for my first trip to Texas. The environment is fantastic, featuring massive smoker pits outside and an exceptionally clean interior despite the heavy crowds. Even though there was a long line of people, the service was incredibly fast and efficient; my friend and I waited less than 5 minutes to get our food. Watching the workers expertly slice the giant, juicy ribs and brisket right in front of you adds a great touch to the experience. I made a total rookie mistake thinking there was a strict 1/2 lb minimum per meat and accidentally ordered way too much food, but every single bite on our tray was phenomenal. The brisket and beef rib were incredibly juicy, melt-in-your-mouth tender, and packed with a perfect peppery bark flavor. Paired with their rich, savory baked beans and the sharp crunch of pickles and onions to cut through the meat's richness, it was an unforgettable meal.

Pork ribs, sausage, fatty brisket, beef rib. Coleslaw, potato salad, green beans, creamed corn.

While I haven't had much barbecue in Texas, I've had plenty of Texas "style" barbecue outside of Texas... and most of that is sadness and sorrow. Terry Black's Barbecue, by comparison, is a zillion times better. Beef rib in particular is delicious, although kind of salty on one side due to all the seasoning. Brisket is pretty good too, and friends loved the pork ribs. Sausage was about only serious miss, and even that was better with the original BBQ sauce added. Sides were mostly solid to very good, coleslaw, creamed corn, potato salad, and green beans. Can't say any of them were super exciting but I'll take solid to very good. Service was good, fun to watch them carve everything as you order, and parking in the lot gets rough. However plenty of street parking so not an issue.

Amazing experience, i love deep elm during the day lol. Sides were smackin, mexican rice, collar greens & went back twice for onions/cucumbers. My partner loved the sausage, eyes were bulging out my face when they pulled the meats out straight out the Qr & started slicing in front of ya. I love rich food, idk what it was this time. It's probably my mistake ordering burnt ends, brisket & rice. So excuse me but my stomach turnt side ways. Like a tbt to a southern chopped & screwed track from Chamillionaire. No ridin dirty but the stomached ached till that night. Fyi i did use the complimentary bread to cut the richness as well to know avail.

Is it possible to order a tasting platter to sample all the different meats at once?

All of the meats are by the pound. If you want to try everything, just let them know how much you want of each item. They don't have a sampler. But if you let them know upfront that you want just a little bit of everything, they can accommodate that… Read more

Do put bbq sauce or is bbq sauce available to put on your ribs?

The ribs are served unsauced. There is usually sauce at the tables or you can request sauce on the side for carry-out.

How early should you line up on a Saturday?

It varies. I’ve been there on a Saturday at lunch time and it wasn’t bad. Another time it was packed. But the line moves quite fast even if it’s an extra busy day. Hardest part is seating. The outdoor area helps but if it’s not a nice day to sit… Read more

    Do they take reservations?

No they do not. But it's worth the wait.

Do the beef ribs sell out early like a lot of places, or will they be available later in the day?

Yes they definitely sell out. I usually am there at 11am and they have them, but the supply is definitely finite.

If I'm coming by for lunch on a Monday, how early should I get there for the line?

    any time. they move fast!

I have an allergy to limes and tomatoes. Does the bbq come separately and is the meat marinaded in lime juice or oranges?

I keep seeing them advertise Black Margaritas on Instagram. Do they serve them in Austin also, or just Dallas? Do they taste like a regular margarita?

Served in both locations and it has a hint of mescal but it is not too strong. Try one.

Do they not serve smoked chicken here?

No, they do not. Per their menu, they serve brisket (their specialty), beef ribs, turkey, pork ribs, chopped beef, and sausage. But, unless you just gotta have chicken, they are well worth going to. Have been there twice now and plan on going back… Read more

By the time the store opened, the line had grown to being over twenty parties long, so plan accordingly if you don't want to be waiting for a while. Between the four in our party, we shared a three meat BBQ plate with bacon burnt ends, brisket, and their house made sausage. For our two sides, we chose their hatch chile mac n cheese and their Mexican street corn. Following the recommendations of many Yelpers, we also ordered two of the brisket tostadas and two of the birria tacos. When we received our plate of meat, I was a bit surprised at how little of each meat there was on the plate, but in hindsight, this ended up being the perfect amount of food, where everyone was able to get a sample of everything. Of the items we ordered, my favorite was definitely the burnt ends. These were melt in your mouth tender, and was insanely rich and decadent. Each of the three pieces in our order had a beautiful bark on the outside that resulted in a satisfying crunch with every bite. The casing to the sausage was snappy and the sausage itself was very juicy. The brisket was fall apart tender. The brisket was a bit light on seasoning, so I ended up using the Aztec Gold BBQ sauce they had sitting at the table with it. The sides that we chose were both delicious. The pasta in the mac n cheese was cooked perfectly and the noodles was generously sauced. The elote was sweet and smokey, and the Cotija cheese added creaminess to the side. Overall, I had a fantastic experience at Hurtado Barbecue and wouldn't hesitate to recommend a visit if you're in Texas and are looking for great tasting BBQ.

I follow the chef/owner on Instagram (@kafibbq), and the amount of effort and detail he puts into his craft has resulted in multiple return visits for me. This review is for my latest visit. My Overall Rating - 5 Stars (Atmosphere, Service, Food, Return) Atmosphere - Kafi BBQ can be found in a shopping strip in Irving-Valley Ranch. Only opened Friday - Sunday, on my most recent Sunday visit around dinner time, Kafi was packed. The patrons were a great mix of families, BBQ lovers, and those looking for high quality Halal meats. Smoke was in the air. 1 Star. Service - The staff is super friendly and nice. Pro Tip - Go for lunch or before 6 before items are sold out. A few items were sold out on my most recent visit (my fault I arrived at 6:45) and the staff weren't aware of what was available, leading to some confusion, but they were so nice it didn't impact my meal. 1 Star. Food - By now, you've probably read or heard about Kafi's Wagyu Brisket. For me, I love following @kafibbq on Instagram so I can see what Salahodeen is cooking up. On this visit, it was the Brisket Sandwich. First off, the house baked bread roll is soft, but firm enough to hold Kafi's famous brisket on a pile of home made cole slaw and pickles. The result was one of the best BBQ sandwiches I've eaten. The bite was soft, smokey, crunchy, and tart (from the pickles). It was a special, and I'm not sure if Kafi will keep this on the menu, but I hope they do. 2 Stars. Will I Return? - Yes. It's pricey, but it's worth it. While the brisket is great, I suggest you follow them on Instagram to see what's cooking and plan your visit around the specialty items. 1 Star.

Their corn mixed with the mac n cheese or potato salad is yummers too Listen, just do yourself a favor and "treat yo self" to Hurtado's. Dont walk, RUN out the door to get there

We came by in between my conference sessions during a fairly non-existent lunch break. Fortunately,…read moreit was very close by and there was no line. We popped in, ordered, and bam! Queso!! I ordered queso. I know. I also ordered mac and cheese and my man went for brisket and turkey. I loved the queso and the salsa was so yummy. I just piled a huge scoop of salsa and a dab of queso and it was perfect. The turkey was delicious and flavorful and the brisket was pretty freaking incredible. The mac and cheese was ok. So we came back before we left also. I got the queso again, the tater tot casserole, brisket, turkey, and chicken. I kept going back for brisket. This is unusual, as I usually go for the turkey. But I couldn't get enough of the queso. The chicken was forgettable. Unfortunately. I did have high hopes. The tater tot casserole was interesting. Not bad, but it was hard to decipher the flavors. I probably wouldn't get that again. Overall, I enjoyed the food. The service was excellent. Everyone was warm and welcoming.

So my girlfriend said "oh, we are meeting her son and his wife at this barbecue place off of…read moreGreenville," and as I do as a Yelper, I started pulling up pictures on Yelp and honestly I wasn't impressed with some of the pictures, but let me tell you once we got our food and sat down and started eating, I was like DANG!! this is actually really good!! The brisket was nice and fatty and juicy, well seasoned. The sausage glistened and was very good. The sides were also really good from the mac and cheese and mashed potatoes. The service was welcoming and fast. It was late in the evening on a Friday night and it was pretty empty that night, but that was ok. We will come back for sure. They food is on point.

The only good thing was the brisket. Brussels had no flavor, and they were hard. The baked beans…read morevery mediocre I'd rather have canned. Bbq sauce was good I'll say. But I'm highly disappointed. Service was shit. They said "we are out of a lot of stuff" "idk if we even still make the chicken" it was just pathetic. Giving very careless service. Even when I came and went from the front door- bartender seemed like he hated his life. This was my first visit and I was thinking it was a restaurant- no, definitely more cafeteria vibes. And I was hoping the food was gonna be better bc I saw good reviews, but nope. I promise you I will never go back there. I'm disgusted with everything. Don't know why there were any good reviews in the first place I had better food and service at a fast food place. I'm mad I wasted my gas money and $25. Trash. Maybe terminate everybody, and start over bc this place isn't going anywhere but down. I never leave reviews this bad but I'm legit disgusted by the entire experience thanks to the staff giving off so much "I don't care" energy.
