Brisket, pork, ribs, green beans, mac & cheese, peach cobbler

I've been wanting to go to Terry Black's barbecue for a few years. I finally got the opportunity when I was at a conference in Dallas. As you walk in, you notice there is plenty of outside and inside seating. The seating is open, there's no reservations. You just find a table and you sit. The way it operates is you go through a cafeteria style line (for the lack of a better term), and you get to see all of the marvelous sides first and pick what you want, and then you go to the meat and they cut it for you right there at the register. Of course, my eyes are always bigger than my stomach so I had mac & cheese, green beans, a quarter pound of brisket, two pork rib, and some peach cobbler to take home. The mac & cheese was OK. I prefer a more strong cheddar or Gouda flavored mac & cheese but when I put some of the meat on it, it was great. The green beans were fresh whole green beans which had a very good flavor and seasoned well. The brisket was very good as well. It wasn't the best brisket I ever had, but very good, seasoned excellent, very tender. My favorite thing was the pork ribs. The flavor was *chef's kiss* delicious. Once again, very tender but still had that teeny bit of crispness on the outside. Amazing. I definitely couldn't finish everything, so I took the peach cobbler back to the hotel and I ate a little bit later that night and some the next day. Unfortunately, I didn't have a microwave in my hotel room, but even cold out of the refrigerator, it was amazing. The crust was very tasty, and it wasn't too sweet or two it had the perfect sweetness. I definitely will go back if I am in Dallas again.

Soft drink, 1 smoked sausage, 2 pork ribs, 1 piece of brisket, coleslaw, mac & cheese, sliced oniion.

$64 before taxes. FOOD Ribs - good to very good Sausage - fair Brisket - fair Slaw - Okay Mac & Cheese - good SERVICE It's self service cafeteria style. Beware, they ask for a tip when you walk your tray to the cashier to pay. AMBIANCE Huge, wide open place, loud & touristy.

My brother brought me here for the first time. We arrived around 11 am on Sunday and the parking lot was on the smaller side & half full at the time. There is an outside tour option to see the smoking of the meats. You order at the counter and it is self seating. First, you choose your sides and desserts at the first counter then the meats at the cashier counter. There is also a bar. We ordered two beef ribs, half lb brisket, regular sausage & jalapeño cheese sausage for our meats. For our sides, we ordered Mac & cheese, cream corn, potato salad, Mexican rice, and cornbread. You can request complimentary bread slices. Our favorites were the beef ribs, brisket & Mac & cheese. The meat was extremely tender & seasoned well. The Mac & cheese is on the drier side but good overall when eating with the meats. Our least favorite was the potato salad & jalapeño cheese sausage, which was slightly on the plainer side. The jalapeño cheese sausage had a subtle spice to it, but the solidified cheese inside made the sausage a little too separated and chewy for me. I also wish they didn't charge for jalapeños. Overall, the beef ribs and brisket were delicious & our family member took to go to take back to Houston. The dining area was spacious and the restrooms were well maintained. The staff was welcoming and friendly especially the employee named Rodolfo who helped to clear our table. We would love to come back again when we're visiting the area.

This place is world famous, for a legit reason too. It's bomb! Loved their pork ribs. The Mac and cheese is great too. Cornbread a bit dry but a nice side to go along with their smoked meats. The line is looks daunting but moves quick. Parking in the area isn't easy but available if you're patient enough. My big gripe is the odor that surrounds and permeates the building. It's that nasty sewer smell. Not sure why they can't get with the city to correct this. You smell it heavily when in line and in the downstairs patio. It's very off putting. I could see people leaving based on the smell.

We stopped by on a Saturday for a lunch and it was very busy. There's plenty of seating inside and outside but most of it was taken. We were lucky and managed to snag two adjacent tables of four for our group of eight. We got the smaller family meal and added on six cornbreads and beef ribs and it was more than enough food for eight people. It was all pretty good and you could also added sauces on the side. The family meal itself is fairly inexpensive for what you get but the beef ribs add on was over $70 so beware. Finally, your clothes and hair WILL smell like barbecue when you leave.

The bbq here is amazing. I was told to visit by a local, and my uber driver. It definitely didn't disappoint. You walk in and are met with a wide open space with family style tables to eat at. The brisket was amazing and the Mac and cheese is phenomenal. If you're visiting, stop in.

While on our trip to Dallas over the weekend, the tour guide suggested Terry Black's. We came in on a Saturday around 6pm. Nearly all the seats in the restaurant were occupied. We lined up to grab our food before finding a table. Reservations not accepted. The dining area was spacious with transparent roofing to allow for natural lighting. Turkey | These slices of turkey were probably the juiciest compared to other BBQ places. Very soft and tender. Should've ordered half a pound instead of quarter pound lol. Green Beans | The green beans were cooked perfectly. It combined a juicy texture with a subtle crunch. However, it was too soupy, which made the entire dish extremely salty. Menu: Beef and turkey were the main protein BBQ items on the menu. A variety of side dishes and desserts were also available. Service: The line may be long, but it's a moving line. The staff were quick with putting together orders even during peak time. Parking: We didn't notice any open lot in the vicinity since we just walked from center of Downtown area.

It had been years (literally) since my last visit to Terry Black's, and myself, my wife, and some of my best Yelp Elite comrades went there on Friday evening before the World Cup finals to "party like the World Cup fans do" when they discover Texas BBQ. We worked our way through the line, a little streamlined from my last visit, and selected vegetables. My wife and I like to share these days, especially with the crazy portion sizes, so we agreed on creamed corn, mac and cheese, and BBQ beans. I grabbed a cornbread muffin (spoiler alert: this has so much sugar, it's basically dessert) and some pickles and red onion strands finished out the non-meat course. Over to the meat counter, we summoned a half pound of fatty brisket and a quarter pound of sliced turkey. We then headed to our seat to join the others. Digging in to the goods, the brisket was moist and tender, the fat between the point and flat was easy to separate and the smoke flavor was intense. Turkey was also moist, which is far from guaranteed at these places, it's easy to overdo. We mostly did straight up meat, but the sauces were very nice, too. The creamed corn was tasty if a little runny, the mac and cheese was very thick and delightfully cheesy, and the beans were tender but not mushy, and had a bunch of meat packed in for additional flavor. All in all, a great time was had, and we left with full bellies and happy hearts. Definitely a winner!

FOOD: We ordered the family pack and shared all the sides and meat! It was so worth it. mac n cheese - it was so good! flavorful and wasn't super creamy or cheesy but enough to be tasty cream corn - super creamy and packed with flavor. this is my favorite side! it was refreshing. potato salad - decent and yummy side to have. didn't stand out compared to the rest but was still made well green beans - nice little veggie on the side to have. wasn't bold but tasted good! mexican rice - loved the flavor! the rice was made well and had flavor. chopped beef - this was pretty good if you enjoy shredded meat. it wasn't too salty and not too dry housemade sausage - i loved the flavor! it had cheese inside as well. bit salty to me but varies on taste by person. i think it had a nice combination of flavors though and cooked well. it was two pretty big links to share with the table as well beef rib - my favorite meat out of all our choices! a bit fatty but also very tender and not too salty. so much flavor! brisket - a bit dry and salty. i added some bbq sauce to it from the table for flavor but i know a lot of people like this one too. it's really a preference thing it wasn't bad but compared to the other meat choices this wasn't a standout to me Service: it's pretty fast paced so i recommend you knowing what you want to get before going up because they would kind of rush you to choose you. the food comes out pretty quick as well Ambiance: very spacious and many seats but still very limited seating due to its popularity. it has a busy yet casual atmosphere. nice stop to try some texas bbq!

Terry Black's Barbecue is a fantastic Texas Style BBQ joint that has made its way to Dallas's Deep Ellum neighborhood, imported directly from Austin. After watching World Cup fans from other countries take over Terry Black's, I knew I had to make a visit. Bookmark this place, it's one of the best in North Texas. My Overall Rating - 5 Stars (Atmosphere, Service, Food, Return) Atmosphere - Terry Black's has its own parking a lot - that alone deserves a star. But what makes Terry Black's so special are the smokers on display as you walk up. As you enter, the intoxicating smell of smoked meat grabs your attention as you line up to order. There's tons of indoor, outdoor, and rooftop seating. 1 Star. Service - Terry Black's proves you don't need to stand in line for hours to get great BBQ. The line starts with you choosing your sides and desserts, and once you've made your decision, you'll then order from one or 5 (or 6?) expert meat cutters. Each order is cut to order, weighed, and you pay for your meal. 1 Star. Food - Texas is known for its brisket, and Terry Black's does it very well. I'm a fan of the fatty cut, and the 14-hour smoked meat is so tender it melts in your mouth. The black bark adds a nice salt and pepper taste that enhances the flavor. There's nothing like a proper smoked brisket. The pork ribs will fall off the bone and also have amazing smoke flavor. I didn't order the Beef Rib, but if you have a big appetite (or a group of friends to share it with), go for it. 2 Stars. Will I Return? - Yes. While the World Cup is over and the tourists have left, their visit to North Texas reminded me that I don't have to drive to Central Texas for amazing BBQ. Thank you, Terry Black's BBQ for opening in Dallas and sharing your amazing BBQ with us. 1 Star.

Love Terry Black's has long been a favorite and frequent stop when I'm in TX. Cafeteria style makes it easy to order and order too much! Went pork ribs and chopped brisket this go round. Pork ribs are good but I usually go for the brisket here. Sliced was sold out and ended up with chopped. The chopped is sauce forward and too sweet. Not bad but if you have it plain you know how much better it is. Service was great. Manager stopped by to see how were were enjoying. Told him the above and he wanted to replace our food. Awesome gesture but was enjoying things all the same. Multiple locations now so it's very accessible. Hope the quality doesn't diminish supporting multiple locations

One of the most popular (and best) BBQ spots in Dallas, and this place is hugeeeeee and super busy, even when we arrived around 4pm! What we ordered: Beef rib Brisket Sides: Cheese corn, green beans, and coleslaw Drink: Frostie Blue Cream Soda The beef rib was so juicy and tender, it literally melted in my mouth! The hype is real, it deserves all the recognition!!!!! The cheese corn and green beans were also surprisingly delicious. The brisket, however, was a bit dry, which was a little disappointing for us since we travelled all the way from Bay Area just for it. But the Blue Cream Soda totally saved the day!!! It was SO good that we ordered it twice! If you come here, you HAVE to try it!

Ask the Community - Terry Black's Barbecue

Can I dine in if I pre-order online?

For sure there's a lot of seating

Is it possible to order a tasting platter to sample all the different meats at once?

All of the meats are by the pound. If you want to try everything, just let them know how much you want of each item. They don't have a sampler. But if you let them know upfront that you want just a little bit of everything, they can accommodate that…

Do put bbq sauce or is bbq sauce available to put on your ribs?

The ribs are served unsauced. There is usually sauce at the tables or you can request sauce on the side for carry-out.

How early should you line up on a Saturday?

It varies. I’ve been there on a Saturday at lunch time and it wasn’t bad. Another time it was packed. But the line moves quite fast even if it’s an extra busy day. Hardest part is seating. The outdoor area helps but if it’s not a nice day to sit…

    Do they take reservations?

No they do not. But it's worth the wait.

Do the beef ribs sell out early like a lot of places, or will they be available later in the day?

Yes they definitely sell out. I usually am there at 11am and they have them, but the supply is definitely finite.

If I'm coming by for lunch on a Monday, how early should I get there for the line?

    any time. they move fast!

I have an allergy to limes and tomatoes. Does the bbq come separately and is the meat marinaded in lime juice or oranges?

I keep seeing them advertise Black Margaritas on Instagram. Do they serve them in Austin also, or just Dallas? Do they taste like a regular margarita?

Served in both locations and it has a hint of mescal but it is not too strong. Try one.

Do they not serve smoked chicken here?

No, they do not. Per their menu, they serve brisket (their specialty), beef ribs, turkey, pork ribs, chopped beef, and sausage. But, unless you just gotta have chicken, they are well worth going to. Have been there twice now and plan on going back…

I will try to come back on a Friday at lunch time, and I hope things will be epic. Bottom line, I wasn't blown away by the meats! They were well cooked, but the flavor just didn't impress. The Sause (sorry, I'm a Rudy's loyalist) was tasty, but didn't blow my mind. A nice sweet + smoky flavor that worked better with the Spare Ribs than the Brisket. The mac n cheese was also delicious with the perfect amount of spice. The service was great too as they made a mistake on my order and quickly corrected it. I like that this place is open daily and for dinner too. Overall, I would recommend this place if you're in the area and looking for some BBQ, but if you're a huge fan of BBQ then I recommend going to the other top BBQ places.

The brisket was tender, juicy, and full of smoky flavor, and the ribs were cooked perfectly--fall-off-the-bone good. The sides were just as impressive. The beans were flavorful, the mac and cheese was creamy and delicious, and the cornbread was the perfect finishing touch. The only downside is that it gets pretty crowded, especially during peak hours, so I recommend finding a seat as soon as you get there. Other than that, the food, service, and overall experience were fantastic. I'll definitely be coming back!

The bark on it was heavily seasoned. Beef ribs were tender but again quite dry and overly seasoned. The dish that immediately ruined our meal was the jalapeño cheddar sausage. The texture was extremely mushy and the meat inside tasted like someone already did the chewing for you. We also got the mac and cheese, corn, basbusa, banana pudding. I could explain them in depth, but I would just recommend not getting them. The brisket empanadas were the only thing we all looked at each other with excitement for! It was our favorite part of the whole experience. Total we spent was $180. I won't be coming back but I do recommend trying it out if you don't believe me!

This time, I had birria tacos on my mind. My Overall Rating - 5 Stars (Atmosphere, Service, Food, Return) Atmosphere - I love the Dallas Farmer's Market, and Hurtado is the perfect restaurant to occupy this space. There is a line that steadily moves, nice outdoor and indoor seating, and if you walk towards the back you can see all the smokers. If you visit on a weekend, try to arrive before noon to avoid long lines. 1 Star. Service - You place your order, take a number, and your order is brought out to you. While you don't get to see the staff cut your meat in front of you, they are very fast and efficient. There are also Hurtado staff who will clear plates off your table. Great people here. 1 Star. Food - I came for the Birria tacos. Hurtado uses their smoked brisket, which shredded and paired will all things that make Hurtado special - Mexico flavors (cilantro, onions, and that beefy consommé). I also ordered a two-meat plate with brisket and bacon burnt ends. The brisket is great (and well represented in many Yelp reviews). On this visit, the bacon burnt ends stole the spotlight. A well-seasoned and smoked pork belly cube will melt in your mouth. I washed down my meal with the Tres Leches Banana Pudding and ended an incredible meal. One last very important note, Hurtado is a great value. My two tacos, 2 meat plate, and desert were $50. P.S. I split this meal with my son. I love food but I'm not a glutton. 2 Stars. Will I Return? - Yes. I've been to the OG Hurtado in Arlington, the one at Globe Life Field, but the location in the Dallas Farmers Market is my favorite of them all. Yes, I will be back! 1 Star.

The ribs, like the burnt ends were Devine. The texas Twinkie is HOT. They don't remove the seeds from their Jalapenos... Their sides were all amazing except for the coleslaw. It's bad. No flavor. No sweetness no nothing. The tator-tot casserole and potato salad though is a whole other story. Talk about delicious! Both a must try. The green beens are good and cooked to perfection and the green chili Mac n cheese is Devine. Let's face it Hurtado knows BBQ. This location is super nice and has a nice clean bar vibe to it. In fact we sat at the bar and met lots of wonderful interesting people.

The brisket was nice and fatty and juicy, well seasoned. The sausage glistened and was very good. The sides were also really good from the mac and cheese and mashed potatoes. The service was welcoming and fast. It was late in the evening on a Friday night and it was pretty empty that night, but that was ok. We will come back for sure. They food is on point.

But I'm highly disappointed. Service was shit. They said "we are out of a lot of stuff" "idk if we even still make the chicken" it was just pathetic. Giving very careless service. Even when I came and went from the front door- bartender seemed like he hated his life. This was my first visit and I was thinking it was a restaurant- no, definitely more cafeteria vibes. And I was hoping the food was gonna be better bc I saw good reviews, but nope. I promise you I will never go back there. I'm disgusted with everything. Don't know why there were any good reviews in the first place I had better food and service at a fast food place. I'm mad I wasted my gas money and $25. Trash. Maybe terminate everybody, and start over bc this place isn't going anywhere but down. I never leave reviews this bad but I'm legit disgusted by the entire experience thanks to the staff giving off so much "I don't care" energy.
