I'm here to talk about the burger. Heim BBQ sits on Mockingbird Lane across from the entrance to Love Field. It's a clean spotless, bright restaurant with large windows and plenty of indoor and patio seating. Their barbecue looked amazing and smelled even better, but today is about their burgers. Dallas has no shortage of great burgers, most of them flat-top grilled. That's fine, but a truly memorable burger needs something more, and Heim delivers. The meat is exceptional, likely ground in-house, and carries the rich, confident flavor you'd expect from a BBQ restaurant that truly understands meat. The bun is equally impressive. It holds together without crumbling into dry shrapnel the way so many do. The basic Heim burger is simple--meat, grilled chopped onions, bun--but the flavor is outstanding. I ordered the burger with onion rings and a beverage. The onion rings were clearly made in-house and top quality. I usually prefer thin, crispy onion strings, but their thick, donut-style rings were excellent. If you're searching for one of Dallas' best burgers--possibly the best--head to Heim BBQ. You won't be disappointed. Bonus... the service was fantastic. When you order they hand you one of those vibrating electric pucks, but when mine went off the waiter listened, heard where I was, and brought my order to me. This place is for tourists. I would not come back. Better than Sony Bryan's but that's not saying much. I go into every bbq place with an open mind with hopes to really enjoy the experience. It happens quite a bit, just not here this time. The mac was plain without much going on. Not really cheesy or saucy, just dressed noods that needed seasoning. The potato salad was kind of good. It was dry overall, but had a decent flavor. I'm going to turn them into potato cakes. The brisket was moist and well seasoned. It tasted more steamed than smoked. Like they use one of those rotating carousel smokers for catering bbq. Not offset which is the gold standard in Texas. The bacon burnt ends just seemed like pork candy. Fat and sugar, mostly fat that I ended up discarding. The sausage seemed cold since the cheese didn't melt at all. Lastly the onion rings. They were almost good. It was so oily and breaded that it felt gross eating them. Had they been more petite and have a better onion ratio we would have been in business. We shared one leaving the rest to the trash man. Same with the Mac. I won't be back. If you're in the area, do yourself a favor and go to slow bone down the street. This is typical tourist trap bbq that you should only ever eat if you are here for business travel and don't have much time to invest in something worth it. read more

I first tried Heim Barbecue during a weekend trip to Fort Worth and couldn't wait to return. This location near Dallas Love Field is just as good, if not better. The space is beautiful and spotless, and the service is always friendly and upbeat. I love coming here for their jalapeño burger and brisket. Always excellent and an easy five stars. read more

Perfect BBQ spot. Clean, friendly, delicious, priced correctly and great options! The moment you walk in, you can smell the smoke. Ordering is easy and efficient at the counter with great customer service. They give you a buzzer, your drinks and then you pick your own table. When the buzzer goes off, you go back to the counter to pickup your food. Food was delicious! Went to happy hour here with a large group of people, and we had a great time! The service was phenomenal. When we ordered a bunch of appetizers and shareable, we had asked the employee at the register how much it would cost for drinks. She ended up giving us a whole stack of cups for free, which was extremely nice! Especially since we had a budget we had to stick with In. We ended up tipping a good amount because the service was so great! The inside had a bunch of seating, and there was also some outdoor seating. We were put into one of the side rooms, where there are two large tables and lots of chairs and definitely accommodated our large group. The food itself was really good and flavorful. I really liked the meat sampler plate that we ordered, as it allowed everyone to try a little bit of everything. I also liked how they had condiments and sides like a pickles, onions, etc., at various stations throughout the restaurant. They also had loaves of bread at the stations so that we could easily make sandwiches ! The merchandise in the front was also really cute!!! Wow. This was an absolute perfect and unique experience. On a work project and one of the guys said he'd stopped here before so we all agreed to do so. As soon as we walked in the smell was great and the layout and cleanliness was all great too. We ordered a plate with multiple options and all four of us seriously loved every single bite we had. My most important thing is always the service to me and each one in there was wonderful. I promise they were each so happy and fun and created a great vibe in there. Had to leave a review to balance out some of the comments from folks who clearly don't understand Texas barbecue -- likely travelers from the nearby airport. First of all, getting a 3-meat plate for $30 is a steal these days. With more spots switching to meat by the pound, it's becoming rare to find combo plates at all, let alone at a fair price. This location is a gem: short lines, friendly staff, and consistently juicy, flavorful barbecue. Unlike many Texas joints where you're stuck in a line wrapped around the building and risk missing out if you don't show up early, Heim keeps it moving and even offers weekday "Heim Time" specials from 2-6pm. The sides are excellent, there's tons of seating indoors and out, and the overall experience is smooth and yummy. I was in Dallas for a job interview and stopped by this restaurant as it was right next to my hotel. From the minute I walked in I was greater with a warm welcome! The girl at the front was really nice and bubbly personality! The building had a barn house feel to it, with high ceilings. The food was great! The ribs were delicious, fall off the bone. They have bbq sauce in the table but trust me no extra sauce was needed! The brisket was so good, great flavor and melts in your mouth. The green chili Mac and cheese was also good, just could use a bit more flavor to it as it was a bit bland. The potato salad also was good, great flavor to it but a bit dry. Before you buy the beef rib, please be aware that it is easily 90% fat. There were not even 2 bites that were non-fat. We did talk to 3 different employees there and showed them this plate and they all confirmed that this amount of fat was normal. Just for reference this was $40 for 1. This restaurant felt like a 5, but I have no frame of reference for Dallas barbecue and as such I am going with a 4. I must begin by noting that you should, if able, drive to this place and get some bacon burnt ends. I was worried that they would actually be "burnt", as I do not love a lot of truly burnt protein, but it was more like large chunks of pork belly with soft, gelatinous fat and decadent muscle cooked with a sweet, peppery glaze. They were unbelievably delicious. I am no authority on brisket by any means, but I thought mine was solid. I got some leaner pieces; I would have appreciated the option to request fatty cuts, but I am not so sure my stomach would have appreciated it as much. At any rate, the smoke flavor was great and the protein was tender. The service was prompt, yet not concerningly so. The server who took our order left off a couple of things, and the waiter gave us the rest of what we ordered without charge, which he did not have to do. The restaurant was clean and orderly. First off, the decor of the restaurant is urban modern and very clean. The roof, however, does tend to leak. Surprise! As for the staff, they were very good. Helpful and friendly, they went the extra mile to make us feel welcome. My wife ordered the bacon burnt ends, and they were amazing. I got the rib plate, and while they were equally tasty, they were a touch on the chewy side in places. As for the sides, we shared the cole slaw and the potato salad. Seeing this restaurants 2019 pitmaster award, I am happy to have tried their brisket. I have to come back the next time I fly to Dallas love airport! Though I only had a 1/4 lb of brisket, I had a lot of smoked flavor -especially burnt ends. The green chile mac and cheese was spicy good and unique. I am going to start out by saying you get what you pay for. And Heim certainly isnt cheap, but by far it has some of the best meat we have had at a BBQ place in DFW. For 2 sandwiches, 2 sides, 1 drink and a dessert it was over $50. BUT it was more than filing and the food was quality. So this is a newer place near the Dallas Love Airport. It's a cool looking restaurant and is always busy with people who work around that area. This isn't my first time to here since when I stay in Dallas it seems to be at the hotel right next to this place. The BBQ overall is good, is there better in Dallas? I think so, but it's a solid bbq joint that I think will make you smile and make your tastebuds dance. This time around I got the sliced brisket sandwich with onion rings. The sandwich came with about 1/2 pound of thick cut brisket on it. The brisket was very well seasoned and has a great smoke flavor without overpowering the taste of the brisket. There was a mix on my sandwich of the point and the flat and I will have to say that the flat was a little dry, drier than a flat should be. But over all a great sandwich. I threw on some onions and pickles and some of their awesome bbq sauce. Their sauce is tomato based but has a vinegar kick and isn't too spicy but has a little to let you know it's there. Overall a solid sandwich. This will set you back at $16. The onion rings looked amazing and so I had to try them. They are homemade, hand dipped onion rings. They are huge! I was so excited about them. Unfortunately if I was eating just the rings it would be maybe 3 stars. They had great crisp to them but no flavor. No seasoning in the batter they used, no seasoning when they came out of the fryer and a little greasy when you ate them. They could use some help. The food is always great here. Legendary has it the owners worked at Franklin. I don't know about that, but that's what people say. The atmosphere is very casual and low key. The service is basically nonexistent by design. You order at the counter, they call your number. You get your own refills. I don't mind the extra steps as they help burn off some of the 16,000 calories you'll eat. We went last, close to closing time, so they were not at their best. I find the food is usually best around lunch. The burnt ends are the star of the show. Always love the brisket, but it felt like it had been sitting. Usually it is better. Maybe it was an off night.
